2024 5-Star cornerback Kobe Black announces official visit to Oklahoma

One prospect Sooner fans should keep an eye on is 2024 5-Star Cornerback Kobe Black who announced he’ll be in Norman next Friday, June 9.

If it’s anything like last year as we enter into the summer months, recruiting will soon start to take off for the Oklahoma Sooners.

One prospect Sooner fans should keep an eye on is 2024 five-star cornerback [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag] who announced on Twitter he’ll be in Norman next Friday, June 9.

June 9 is shaping up to be a big recruiting weekend for the Sooners as five-star DL Williams Nwaneri is also expected to be there along with four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley among others.

The Sooners made Black’s top 11 back in April and they’ll be competing against LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, USC, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, TCU and Florida for his commitment.

Black is another highly talented guy the Sooners hope to add to this DB room as they head into SEC play in 2024 but it won’t be an easy recruiting battle to win. He’s currently projected to go to Texas according to On3 and Rivals.

As we saw just last year with the recruitment of 5-Star defensive back [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag], the Sooners are never out of it as [autotag]Jay Valai[/autotag] and [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] hope to lure the Texas native to the Sooner state.

One of the most sought-after prospects in the 2024 recruiting class is expected to visit Texas this weekend. Inside Texas reports five-star cornerback Kobe Black is taking a return trip to Austin.

247Sports Composite ranks Black as the No. 3 cornerback prospect in the nation and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Texas.

Texas is trending in the right direction for the elite defensive back from Waco. The Longhorns received an On3 recruiting prediction in their favor for Black earlier this week.

Black spoke with On3 Sports about what stands out about Texas.

“Texas is a family atmosphere over there. They’re also building something, I see it. There’s a whole bunch of talent there and they’re getting developed well. I can see it.”

11 schools are in the mix in Black’s recruitment. He named Alabama, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Nebraska, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC as finalists in early April.

Florida coaches keeping close with 2024 five-star CB

Spring football is starting for high schools around the country, and that means Florida coaches are hitting the road.

Spring practices are starting all over the country, and that means Florida’s coaches are out and about recruiting and evaluating talent.

Defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong stopped by five-star defensive back target [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag]’s school, Connally (Waco, Texas), twice to kick off the contact period, according to Gators Online. Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson was also on campus for the second visit.

Florida is serious about the No. 3 cornerback and No. 18 recruit in the country, according to the On3 industry ranking. The Gators offered him a scholarship at the beginning of the year and have since made his list of top 11 programs.

While Black has yet to visit Florida’s campus, getting coaches out to him is the next best thing. Showing a player how much he’s wanted can go a long way during the recruitment process. Of course, Black isn’t short on Power Five programs that want him playing for their school.

Alabama, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M are among the other suitors still left in the race.

Getting Black on campus is the next step, but there’s no news on that front just yet. Florida won’t be considered a major player in this race until that happens. Right now, the Longhorns have the best odds at 79.9%, according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

LSU is hosting one of the best prospects in the 2024 recruiting class this weekend in Baton Rouge.

LSU is hosting one of the best prospects in the 2024 recruiting class this weekend in Baton Rouge as it tries to persuade him to become a Tiger.

[autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, five-star cornerback from Waco, Texas, where he plays for Connally High School. The Connally Cadets finished the 2022 season 9-3 with a loss to Hamshire-Fannett in the second round of the 4A D2 playoffs.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class currently is ranked as the No. 4 overall class by 247Sports and has 12 commits currently. Two of those are cornerbacks, four-star [autotag]Zion Ferguson[/autotag] and three-star [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag].

Black is ranked as the No. 15 overall recruit in his class and the No. 2 cornerback. Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas and Baylor are all vying for his talents.

There are currently no crystal ball projections at this time for Black but Oklahoma State is a 28% favorite to land him per On3. Hopefully, [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his staff can convince him to spend his years in college at LSU.

2024 five-star defensive back Kobe Black recently released his top schools with Alabama included into the mix.

Cornerback Kobe Black of the 2024 class released his top-11 schools recently via Twitter. Alabama was one of the schools that made the cut.

Black plays for Connally High School in Waco, Texas. As a junior, he tallied 36 tackles, nine pass breakups, and two interceptions. He also contributed on the offensive side of the ball. Black had 642 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns for the Cadets.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Kobe Black’s recruiting profile.

Texas A&M makes 2024 5-Star CB Kobe Black’s Top 11 program list

Texas A&M has made 2024 5-Star CB Kobe Black’s Top 11 program list, and from the man himself, his recruitment is wide open

The recruiting journey of 2024 five-star CB Kobe Black has been interesting, to say the least, as Texas A&M has been in and out of contention for the ultra-talented defensive back since offering him on Apr. 9th of last year after his first unofficial visit on the same day. Since then, Black has been back to College Station on two occasions including a school camp last June, and his second unofficial visit on Jan. 23rd.

Either way, the Aggies have made the inner circle for Black, and the competition is fierce, as Alabama, LSU, USC, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, TCU, and Florida are also vying for his commitment.

The future of the cornerback position for Texas A&M is somewhat unknown, although the recent additions of Bravion Rogers and Jayvon Thomas from the 2023 recruiting class are a great start, more talent is needed in the rapidly evolving age of the transfer portal and NIL.

According to 247Sports, Black is listed as the 2nd-ranked cornerback in the state of Texas and the country. Standing at 6-0, and 190 lbs, Black is considered as the “prototypical” defensive back from a size perspective, in addition to his speed, athleticism, and versatility in the backfield. a two-way player at Connally High School in Waco, Texas, Black performed at cornerback, running back, and wide receiver during his 2022 junior season, accumulating the following stat line:

  • CB: 36 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 9 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, both returned for touchdowns.
  • RB: 34 rushing attempts, 337 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns.
  • WR: 19 receptions, 305 receiving yards, 5 receiving touchdowns.

Due to his impressive performance, Black was named to the Texas District 11-4A D-II first-team selection at both cornerback and wide receiver, while his expectations are sky-high going his 2023 senior season.
