Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff recaps the Vols’ win versus Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament.

No. 8 seed Tennessee (23-7) defeated Wake Forest, 4-0, Sunday at Barksdale Stadium in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

“We have a good team and good players,” Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff said after defeating Wake Forest. “Where we started back in February, to where we are now, we’re just trying to peak at the right time. In these sports like basketball, baseball and our sport, you just try to get rolling at the right time. We’ve got an experienced group of guys, and so far we are doing well.”

Tennessee will host South Carolina in the Knoxville Super Regional on Saturday. First serve between the Vols and Gamecocks is slated for 4 p.m. EDT at Barksdale Stadium.

Tennessee (21-5, 11-2 SEC) defeated Wake Forest on Saturday, 4-1, at Barksdale Stadium in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

Tennessee advances to the Sweet 16 for the tenth time in program history and will play Texas A&M at 3 p.m. EDT in College Station, Texas on May 12.

“These guys have worked so hard,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. “Not just this team, but so many teams that came before them. We’ve been able to recruit off of the success of other teams. I want to make sure every single Lady Vol knows they’ve been a huge part of us getting to this place. A couple of years ago, we almost did. We almost hosted but didn’t quite get it. Then, we earned the host and took advantage of it. Now, all of the sudden, we have an opportunity to go to the Sweet 16 and keep going.”

The match took place in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

“Today, honestly, it was more about just staying with it,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said following the first-round. “We don’t need to play better than how we’re playing. We just have to keep sticking with it and make sure that they’re (SEMO) the ones that feel like they have to elevate their level. Let’s just stay solid. That was the message everywhere.”

Tennessee and Wake Forest will play on Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT. The winner will advance to a NCAA Tournament super regional.
