Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff recaps the Vols’ win versus Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament.

No. 8 seed Tennessee (23-7) defeated Wake Forest, 4-0, Sunday at Barksdale Stadium in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

“We have a good team and good players,” Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff said after defeating Wake Forest. “Where we started back in February, to where we are now, we’re just trying to peak at the right time. In these sports like basketball, baseball and our sport, you just try to get rolling at the right time. We’ve got an experienced group of guys, and so far we are doing well.”

Tennessee will host South Carolina in the Knoxville Super Regional on Saturday. First serve between the Vols and Gamecocks is slated for 4 p.m. EDT at Barksdale Stadium.

The University of Tennessee announced its 2023 Hall of Fame class.

The school is hosting its first induction ceremony in three years due to the coronavirus pandemic. The inductees will be honored April 13-15.

Former Vol tennis player Chris Woodruff is one of the inductees for the 2023 class.

Chris Woodruff is one of the most legendary and decorated alums in the storied history of Tennessee’s men’s tennis program. The Knoxville native remains the only NCAA singles champion in program history, winning the title in 1993. He took home ITA National Player of the Year and SEC Player of the Year honors that same year. A career that began with Woodruff’s 1992 ITA National Rookie of the Year acclaim finished with two singles All-American honors (1992 and 1993), along with a pair of singles All-SEC distinctions (1992 and 1993). Woodruff posted a two-year singles record of 81-16 (.835), including a remarkable 45-7 (.865) mark in 1993. The multiple-time ATP Tour champion and former world No. 29 singles player served as assistant coach and associate head coach at Tennessee from 2002 until his promotion to head coach in 2017. He completed his degree in Psychology in 2005.

Tennessee defeated Texas A&M, 4-3, Friday in College Station.

“I thought this weekend was really productive for everyone,” Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff said. “I thought we learned a lot about ourselves. We learned a lot about overcoming adversity and what it’s going to take to be successful as we get deeper and deeper into the season, with the ultimate goal being success in the postseason.

“I’d like to see us continue to get as healthy as we possibly can. We stuck together this weekend. We were down and out for all practical purposes against Texas A&M and really stuck in there together. I told the guys that during the season there are a lot of opportunities to quit and go away and there are also a lot of opportunities to turn your year around. Given where we are, I’m hoping we can use this weekend against Texas A&M and LSU to really get us going in a positive direction.”
