Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams headed for knee surgery

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed Seahawk safety Jamal Adams will need to get some work done on the knee he injured in Seattle’s win over Denver.

The Seattle Seahawks lost safety Jamal Adams to a knee injury in the second quarter of Monday’s contest against the Denver Broncos and he was unable to return to the game. Now, it looks like he’s headed for surgery and could miss considerable time as he recovers.

“Yeah, he’s hurt,” coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday morning on his weekly show on Seattle Sports 710 AM. “He hurt his knee and he’s gonna have to get some work on that. I don’t know the extent of it yet but I know it’s serious.”

Adams was carted off the field with clear frustration on his face. No newcomer to injuries, Adams has every right to be upset.

“It just breaks your heart,” Carroll continued. “He loves the game so much. We’re gonna miss him so much. The fact that he is such a heartthrob about the game of football, he loves playing, and it’s just, he can’t deal with it right now about, you know – ‘How could this keep happening?’ It was good he had his mom and dad in the locker room . . . to kind of help them through it and all that.

“But it’s really tough, I hope everybody sends all the love to him.”

Hopefully, Carroll will have more information and an updated status on Adams by his press conference on Wednesday.

Report: Cowboys WR Michael Gallup to have surgery for ACL tear

Michael Gallup has been waiting since January 2 to have his left knee repaired; then he’ll have to wait to learn if he remains in Dallas. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Michael Gallup’s fourth season in the NFL has been marked by a series of long waits. His latest wait is about to come to an end, but it won’t be his last.

The Cowboys wide receiver suffered an ACL tear in Week 17, the team’s penultimate game of the regular season, a loss to Arizona. He’ll finally undergo surgery to repair the ligament next week, according to a report from Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Cowboys head team physician Dr. Dan Cooper will perform the procedure, per Gehlken’s source. Gallup is expected to be ready for the start of the 2022 season, though his future with the Cowboys remains unclear.

The former third-round draft pick out of Colorado State entered 2021 looking to put up big numbers in a contract year, but a calf injury sustained in the season opener relegated him to the sideline until Week 10. Upon his return, he tallied 31 more receptions, 409 additional yards, and a pair of touchdowns prior to the left knee injury against the Cardinals (which came on an acrobatic scoring grab). He was put on injured reserve to finish the season.

Gehlken notes that ACL injuries typically involve a delay of multiple weeks before surgery, to allow “for symptoms like swelling to improve, which studies have shown to facilitate post-operation rehabilitation.”

With a long list of players about to hit free agency, the Cowboys will have a decision to make on Gallup. Fellow wideout Amari Cooper currently commands a large contract; if the club opts to retain him, it is widely assumed they may move on from Gallup. Releasing or trading Cooper would ostensibly free up enough money to issue the 25-year-old a new deal and have funds left over for other players.

Gallup logged a 1,000-yard season in 2019 and scored a career-high six touchdowns- in only 14 games- in just his second year in the league. His numbers trailed off last season, but much of that drop can be attributed to the revolving door at the quarterback position in Dallas following the injury to quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 5.

What happens next for Gallup may come down to whether he showed the Cowboys enough in nine games this season to warrant betting on him over a four-time Pro Bowler.

That means more waiting for Gallup.

There is a slim chance left tackle Duane Brown could return this week

Seattle Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown recently underwent knee surgery and there is a very slight chance he could return to play in Philly.

The Seattle Seahawks have sorely missed left tackle Duane Brown, who has been inactive for the last two matchups with a knee injury.

“His knee was really irritated in general, it was kind of a pissed off knee,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “He needs to come back from that. We’re trying to get it quieted down and all that and see if he can get back out. Structurally, he’s in good shape We just got to make sure that his knee is quieted down and he doesn’t have swelling and that kind of stuff and he can get moving again. I don’t know if that will happen this week or not.”

Brown recently underwent minor knee surgery to try to correct the problem. While the procedure was a success, Carroll said he won’t know how far along Brown is until at least Wednesday or Thursday.

“He did some things this weekend to try to help him along the process,” Carroll noted. “By the end of the week, he has it in his mind maybe there’s a chance he can make it back.

“That would be a miraculous recovery.”

With or without Brown, the Seahawks are slated to take on the Eagles this Sunday in Philadelphia at 1:40 p.m. PT.

Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown to undergo knee surgery Monday

Inactive Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown will undergo knee surgery on Monday.

The Seattle Seahawks have been absolutely decimated by injuries over the last few weeks, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. However, that all changed on Sunday with the loss of two running backs and an offensive lineman – potentially for the remainder of the season.

Running backs Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise both left the Week 16 contest against the Cardinals and will likely not return this year. Carson suffered a hip injury and Prosise left the matchup after breaking his arm.

The final hit came after the game when coach Pete Carroll announced left tackle Duane Brown would undergo knee surgery on Monday. Brown was inactive for Seattle’s loss to Arizona.

“He needs to get his knee fixed,” Carroll said after the game. “He tried like crazy to get through it this week just couldn’t. He did everything during the week and couldn’t get it to quiet down. He just needs to get his knee cleaned up.”

Carroll did note that the procedure is not considered a major surgery and Brown does have a chance to return this season. However, Brown will likely be up against the clock to get back in time as Seattle continues its run at the playoffs.

Report: Texans OT Tytus Howard undergoes successful right knee surgery

Houston Texans rookie right tackle Tytus Howard had successful knee surgery and should be ready for the club’s offseason program.

The road to recovery is off to a good start for Houston Texans rookie offensive tackle Tytus Howard.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the first-round pick from Alabama State had successful surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee. As such, the 6-5, 322-pound offensive lineman will be on track to participate in the team’s offseason program.

Howard started eight games for the Texans, but dealt with injuries throughout the season. In preseason, Howard broke his hand and it kept him out of the club’s season opener at the New Orleans Saints.

In Week 6 at the Kansas City Chiefs, Howard sustained an MCL sprain that knocked him out for the next two games until he returned in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

On Nov. 30, a day before the Texans hosted the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football at NRG Stadium in an eventual 28-22 win, the club placed Howard on injured reserve, ending his rookie campaign.

In the absence of Howard, the Texans plan to rotate Chris Clark and Roderick Johnson at right tackle.
