Steve Sarkisian met with the media on Tuesday following the Longhorns’ morning practice.

The third-year Texas head coach provided some updates about where his team stands about halfway through spring practice.

Sarkisian had praise for a few players stepping up from a leadership capacity. He highlighted Jordan Whittington, Quinn Ewers, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Jerrin Thompson, Byron Murphy and Barryn Sorrell as growing leaders in the program.

The Texas staff feels confident about its depth at cornerback. With Ryan Watts as a returning starter coming back, Sarkisian mentioned a few names competing well across from Watts.

Sarkisian complemented the running back room for their efforts in Texas’ most recent scrimmage.

Kitan Crawford was singled out again as a standout in practice. Crawford’s emergence is becoming a common theme this Spring. With Arkansas transfer Jalen Catalon still sidelined with an injury, Crawford is making the most of his extra reps.

Here is a look at everything Steve Sarkisian said as Texas continues its preparation in spring ball.

Texas football players with the most to gain from a strong fall camp

Multiple players can improve their standing within the depth chart.

With August approaching and Texas set to prepare for the 2022 season, a number of players can improve their standing within the depth chart.

Multiple positions are up for grabs, with none more important than quarterback and left tackle. Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card will battle for the right to run Sarkisian’s offense, while Andrej Karic and Kelvin Banks will battle for the premier offensive line spot.

With Xavier Worthy and Isaiah Neyor figuring to take the most snaps at receiver, Jordan Whittington, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Jahleel Billingsley, Agiye Hall and others will jockey for the remaining spots.

Texas could have another open spot on the offensive line. The defense should have quite a few openings as well. Here are players with the most to gain from a strong fall camp.

Four Texas Longhorns to look out for this college football season

These Longhorns could be rising stars in 2022.

There is plenty of hype surrounding Texas when it comes to the 2022 college football season, but there are players that may be getting a tad overlooked.

Everyone is well aware of the likes of Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, Xavier Worthy, and DeMarvion Overshown. However, there are a handful of Longhorns that can make an impact that are not getting talked about nearly enough.

Whether these players may have already played a significant role in years past, or are looking to carve out a spot to do so for the first time in 2022, there will certainly be some commonly overlooked names being said this year.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are now in year two, and not only does that mean the fan base has higher expectations considering the first year went so poorly, but it also means the players on the roster have had consistency for the first time in a couple years. This allows for players to grow in the system and blossom into stars.

Here are a few players that have a great chance of contributing in the 2022 season whether it be as a starter or a role player.

Texas Football: Four players switching positions this offseason

Texas had several players switch positions in order to bolster their depth at certain spots.

With spring ball approaching, there are some familiar names for Texas in new spots.

Although the Longhorns were able to add an abundance of talent through recruiting and even the transfer portal, not all of their reinforcements will be able to join them in the spring. This, along with Texas needing more depth at certain positions led to multiple players making a position switch this offseason.

With there being a few areas of concern heading into spring practices, 247Sports dove into the four players switching positions for Texas.

Although the Longhorns were able to bring in quite possibly the best offensive line class in school history, only one of the seven signees enrolled early for spring ball in four-star Cole Hutson. Taking this into consideration along with losing four offensive linemen during the offseason, Texas certainly needed to beef up the line for depth.

The other positions of concern were the two safety spots, as the Longhorns lost a total of four safeties during the offseason. This led to multiple players making the switch.

Here are the players that will be playing new positions heading into next season.

Texas DB Kitan Crawford reportedly moving to safety in 2022

The athletic cornerback will now try his luck at safety to help Texas sure up one of their weaker positions on defense.

There have already been modifications to the Texas secondary in efforts to get the best players on the field.

Third-year defensive back and former four-star prospect, Kitan Crawford, will be making the switch from corner to safety this upcoming season. This was first reported by Inside Texas’ Bobby Burton and Justin Wells during their most recent episode of “On Texas Football.”

Not only does this get Crawford on the field, but it helps solidify the safety position which was viewed as a major issue after the departures of both B.J. Foster (transfer) and Brenden Schooler. This also clears up one more person from the position battle that will be had at the cornerback positions, as there are now about five contenders vying for two spots.

The Longhorns will still have D’Shawn Jamison, Ryan Watts, Jahdae Barron, Terrance Brooks, and Jaylon Guilbeau duking it out for the starting corner spots.

Crawford’s top tier athleticism will certainly help him thrive in his new role, and helps Texas at a position of need.
