Cincinnati vs Kennesaw State Game Preview

Why Kennesaw State Will Win

The Owls struggled in the season opener against Samford, but it has a dangerous offense, the downfield passing game is going to push the secondary when it gives it a shot, and the attack should perk up and be better than it was in Week 1.

It wasn’t able to hit the deep passes against the Bulldogs to go along with its normally dangerous running game, but it’s there.

The O is going to press the Bearcats in all phases – it was third in the FCS last season in rushing – and and the UC defense has to gear it up fast after the loss to Arkansas and with the rivalry game with Miami University up next.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why Cincinnati Will Win

Cincinnati has the defense to hold up.

It was a tough 31-24 loss at Arkansas last week, but the D was able to come up with just enough stops to keep the game alive. The offense wasn’t as sharp or dangerous as it was last season, but the offensive line is still great, new quarterback Ben Bryant was terrific, and the tempo will make a difference.

Kennesaw State has to win the time of possession battle by a large margin, and it probably won’t.

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Cincinnati showed that it’s still for real in the loss to Arkansas. That was a road game against a strong SEC West team – it was a good fight in a tough game.

This week it will all kick in. Kennesaw State is a good FCS team that’s going to hit everyone else hard with its running game, but the season will need another week before it kicks in gear.

Notre Dame part of tough nonconference schedules for Power Five teams

The Irish will be part of tough schedules for some teams this year.

Any team that has Notre Dame on its nonconference schedule automatically receives a bump in the strength of that schedule. Even during seasons in which the Irish struggle, there at least is a bump interest for that game. Either way, any matchup with the Irish is serious business.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has released a piece comparing nonconference schedules for the entire Football Bowl Subdivision. For the Power Five conferences and the AAC, he lists the nonconference schedules for the teams he believes have the toughest and weakest in those conferences. Notre Dame pops up in the toughest nonconference schedule for Georgia Tech in the ACC, USC in the Pac-12, and Cincinnati in the AAC. In fact, Palm ranks the Yellow Jackets as having the fifth toughest nonconference schedule in all of the FBS.

Here are the other nonconference opponents for all the teams that have the Irish on their schedules:

  • Georgia Tech: Georgia, Northern Illinois, Kennesaw State
  • USC: BYU, San Jose State
  • Cincinnati: Indiana, Miami (Ohio), Murray State

Ravens waive FB Bronson Rechsteiner — son of wrestling legend

The Baltimore Ravens waived FB Bronson Rechsteiner after signing him as a UDFA out of Kennesaw State this offseason.

The Baltimore Ravens announced via Twitter they’ve waived undrafted free agent fullback Bronson Rechsteiner. The Ravens signed Rechsteiner out of Kennesaw state this offseason after he failed to get selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rechsteiner was a long shot to make the Ravens’ final 53-man roster. While Baltimore is one of the few teams remaining in the NFL to still actively use a dedicated fullback in their offense, they already have one of the league’s best in Patrick Ricard — who pulls triple duty on defense and special teams as well.

Still, Baltimore has typically liked keeping around some running back options on the practice squad, pulling Alex Collins and Gus Edwards from it in recent years. It was hoped Rechsteiner would be able to show some talent during training camp, earning a practice squad spot and sticking around with the Ravens for a little while.

Rechsteiner had a successful 2019 campaign at Kennesaw State. He rushed for 909 yards and seven touchdowns on 121 carries, adding another 101 receiving yards on eight catches.

Rechsteiner has a well-known family, at least in the professional wrestling community. Rechsteiner is the son and nephew of wrestling legends Rick and Scott Steiner, who both performed for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) at times throughout their careers.
