Ravens waive FB Bronson Rechsteiner — son of wrestling legend

The Baltimore Ravens waived FB Bronson Rechsteiner after signing him as a UDFA out of Kennesaw State this offseason.

The Baltimore Ravens announced via Twitter they’ve waived undrafted free agent fullback Bronson Rechsteiner. The Ravens signed Rechsteiner out of Kennesaw state this offseason after he failed to get selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rechsteiner was a long shot to make the Ravens’ final 53-man roster. While Baltimore is one of the few teams remaining in the NFL to still actively use a dedicated fullback in their offense, they already have one of the league’s best in Patrick Ricard — who pulls triple duty on defense and special teams as well.

Still, Baltimore has typically liked keeping around some running back options on the practice squad, pulling Alex Collins and Gus Edwards from it in recent years. It was hoped Rechsteiner would be able to show some talent during training camp, earning a practice squad spot and sticking around with the Ravens for a little while.

Rechsteiner had a successful 2019 campaign at Kennesaw State. He rushed for 909 yards and seven touchdowns on 121 carries, adding another 101 receiving yards on eight catches.

Rechsteiner has a well-known family, at least in the professional wrestling community. Rechsteiner is the son and nephew of wrestling legends Rick and Scott Steiner, who both performed for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) at times throughout their careers.

Ravens sign 2 more UDFAs after 2020 NFL Draft

The Baltimore Ravens added to their UDFA class, signing KSU FB Bronson Rechsteiner and Redlands CB Jeff Hector.

The Baltimore Ravens are steadily adding to their UDFA class. After signing three players at the end of the week, Baltimore added two more to the mix, according to a press release.

  • CB Jeff Hector, Redlands
  • FB Bronson Rechsteiner, Kennesaw State

When added to their 10-pick haul in the 2020 NFL Draft, that means 15 rookies are currently on the roster and will be fighting for roster spots this offseason. Though the Ravens have been linked to at least 18 UDFA players following the 2020 NFL Draft, they’ve only officially signed five thus far. With the coronavirus pandemic making getting physicals a little more difficult than in previous years, the UDFA process is clearly being slowed down as a result.

Hector started 11 games over two years at Redlands, notching eight interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. He also had 14 passes defensed, 47 combined tackles and two sacks.

For those wrestling fans, the Rechsteiner name might bring back memories. Bronson is the son of Rick Rechsteiner and nephew of Scott Rechsteiner, who both wrestled in the WWF and WCW.

Rechsteiner’s path to the NFL might also sound familiar to Baltimore’s other fullback Patrick Ricard. After originally joining KSU as a linebacker in 2016, Rechsteiner moved to running back the next season. The Ravens love players with versatility and having some potential to play both sides of the ball could see Rechsteiner on the short list to make the team.

Rechsteiner carried the ball 244 times for 1,496 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, adding another 12 receptions for 189 yards.

Baltimore Ravens sign son of legendary pro wrestler

The son of pro wrestling legend Rick Steiner has signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent.

Pro wrestling and professional football have intersected many times. The Baltimore Ravens added another page to that book Saturday when they signed an undrafted free agent from Kennesaw State.

The Ravens added Bronson Rechsteiner after the draft. A 6-foot, 230-pound running back from the Georgia school is the son of former pro wrestler Rick Steiner.

A 2019 All-America selection by HERO Sports, Rechsteiner helped lead Kennesaw State to the most successful start-up program in college football history during his four-year career. He appeared in 48 games and helped the Owls capture two Big South Conference championships, make three straight appearances in the FCS Playoffs and capture four FCS Playoff victories.

Rechsteiner led the No. 1 rushing attack in all of FCS football in 2019 with 909 rushing yards, seven touchdowns, and 8.1 yards per carry. He set a KSU school record on Sept. 21, 2019, at Missouri State, rushing for 221 yards on 10 attempts, including an 85-yard touchdown to lead a comeback victory.

He had three 100-yard rushing games and completed the only pass of his collegiate career, a 60-yarder for a touchdown.

Rechsteiner dazzled in his NFL Pro Day performance on the campus of Kennesaw State, with 35 reps on the bench, 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 6.95 seconds in the three-cone drill. His performance on the bench would have ranked No. 3 among all players at the NFL combine and No. 1 among running backs, clearing every player at his position by six reps.

His uncle Scott Steiner, aka Big Poppa Pump, congratulated his nephew along with others.

Rechsteiner’s highlight reel features the theme of WWE legend and current exec Triple H.

If things don’t work out with the Ravens or in the NFL, Bronson Rechsteiner would love to follow his father and uncle into the wrestling ring.
