Jaylen Waddle doubtful, Tyreek Hill questionable vs. 49ers

The Dolphins could be without both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on Sunday in their home finale.

The Miami Dolphins’ offense may be without a few keys players Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

On Friday, the team listed wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as doubtful and listed wide receiver Tyreek Hill and offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm as questionable.

Also questionable are linebacker Bradley Chubb and Cameron Goode, who have to be activated from the PUP list this weekend or else their 2024 seasons are officially over.

“I’ll meet with [general manager] Chris [Grier] and talk to both those two individuals,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Chubb and Goode. “I would say that during the process we had felt that Cam [Goode] was a little ahead, but I would be remiss if I would rule anybody anything for this game. But optimistic we’ll see one or both here when they’re ready and that’s what we’re making sure that we’re communicative and they’re empowered and feel ready to play football.”

Kendall Lamm returns to practice with Dolphins on Thursday

The Dolphins had one of their two injured offensive tackles back at practice Thursday.

The Miami Dolphins were still without four players at practice Thursday, but got offensive lineman Kendall Lamm back on a limited basis.

Lamm, 32, took over starting right tackle duties earlier this season after Austin Jackson had a season-ending surgery. But when Lamm was forced to miss Week 15, the team turned to Jackson Carman to take over against the Houston Texans and got brutal results.

While it’s possible the Dolphins could turn to Isaiah Wynn to start in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers, it’d be a significant boost either way if Lamm was available.

Terron Armstead, Kendall Lamm inactive for Week 15 vs. Texans

The Dolphins are digging deep into their offensive line depth chart for a pair of starters at tackle Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins will be without offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm against the Houston Texans on Sunday, the team announced.

Armstead is no surprise after making an early exit last week against the New York Jets. The veteran was listed as doubtful for Week 15. To also be without Lamm, who was questionable, is a huge blow as the Dolphins will have to dig deep into their depth chart for a pair of starters Sunday.

With Austin Jackson on injured reserve, it’ll be second-round rookie Patrick Paul starting at left tackle. On the right side, it’ll likely be former Bengals lineman Jackson Carman, who was signed to the active roster from the Dolphins practice squad earlier this month. The team also has Isaiah Wynn and Ryan Hayes available.

Undrafted rookie lineman Andrew Meyer is active for the first time in his NFL career.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team:

Dolphins inactives

  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
  • CB Ethan Bonner
  • OT Kendall Lamm
  • OT Terron Armstead
  • TE Jack Stoll
  • WR Dee Eskridge
  • DT Neil Farrell

Texans inactives

  • OL Juice Scruggs
  • WR Steven Sims
  • TE Cade Stover
  • DT Kurt Hinish

Terron Armstead doubtful, 5 Dolphins questionable vs. Texans

One Dolphins starting offensive tackle is doubtful and the other is questionable for a Week 15 game in Houston.

The Miami Dolphins will likely be without left tackle Terron Armstead and may be without right tackle Kendall Lamm, as well, when they take on the Houston Texans in Week 15.

“I am a little pessimistic about [Armstead] this week and we’ve planned accordingly, but we’ll see how the next 48 hours go,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Friday.

In the event that Armstead is ruled out, second-round rookie Patrick Paul would be in line to make his second NFL start. If both Armstead and Lamm, who is questionable with a back injury, are out, the Dolphins have former Bengals lineman Jackson Carman next up on the depth chart. There’s also Isaiah Wynn, who began his career at tackle before moving to guard with the Dolphins.

Terron Armstead, 5 other Dolphins sit out Wednesday practice

Offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm weren’t on the practice field Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins kept six players off the practice field Wednesday, including offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm.

Armstead has missed all practices in recent weeks, but has played through his knee injury. However, he exited early in the team’s Week 14 game against the New York Jets and was replaced in the lineup by second-round rookie Patrick Paul.

Earlier this week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said the injury for Armstead needs rest “to cool down a little bit.”

Mike McDaniel ‘optimistic’ 5 injured Dolphins will play in Week 14

The Dolphins may have a pretty healthy lineup Sunday against the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins had a positive injury report Thursday with only one player absent from their session, and head coach Mike McDaniel provided even more good news at his Friday press conference.

According to McDaniel, he expects very few of the team’s injured players to be unavailable Sunday against the New York Jets. He’s feeling good about the likelihood that cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Kader Kohou, offensive linemen Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm, and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. are all ready to go in Week 14.

“Hopeful that he’ll be through [the concussion protocol] this afternoon,” McDaniel said of Fuller. “So we’ll wait and see on that.”

“I’m optimistic about both [Kohou and Walker],” McDaniel said. “But that’s assuming there’s no setbacks and how they feel after [practice], but it’s been positive for them this week.”

“We’ll make sure that he’s feeling good and I’m not going to put him out there if he’s not capable, but I feel optimistic about it,” McDaniel said of Armstead.

“Kendall Lamm has had a good week in terms of getting his body right,” McDaniel said. “I feel optimistic about him too.”

The Dolphins were without both Fuller and Walker during their Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, and both Kohou and Lamm exited early with injuries. Armstead has been consistently absent from practices, but has played through his knee injury on a weekly basis.

Dolphins starting OT expected to miss rest of 2024 after surgery

The Dolphins are turning to Kendall Lamm (or Patrick Paul) at right tackle for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Miami Dolphins starting right tackle Austin Jackson will have knee surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season, according to coach Mike McDaniel.

Jackson, 25, was placed on injured reserve earlier this week after McDaniel told reporters over the weekend that surgery was “not out of the question.” However, the coach added that he didn’t believe a procedure would sideline him for the rest of the season.

Instead, the Dolphins will turn to veteran offensive tackle Kendall Lamm, who started Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams, to take over on the right side of the offensive line. Behind Lamm on the depth chart is second-round rookie Patrick Paul.

On Wednesday, McDaniel said the team will stick with Lamm in the starting lineup, although he didn’t rule out Paul eventually taking over.

“You base those decisions off day in and day out work,” McDaniel. “I was happy with the way that Kendall [Lamm] played and, it’s really like all the positions on the football team, I look at it like, yeah, that’s his job. However, my job as head of coaching is that if somebody goes and takes that job somehow, some way, or deserves an opportunity, that’s when they get it.”

Jackson signed a three-year contract extension with the Dolphins in December 2023. In eight games, Pro Football Focus credited the right tackle with allowing 15 pressures and three sacks before his injury.

Dolphins place starting right tackle on injured reserve

The Dolphins will likely turn to Kendall Lamm to step back into the starting lineup.

The Miami Dolphins will be without starting right tackle Austin Jackson for at least four games after placing him on injured reserve Monday.

Jackson, 25, was already ruled out of the Dolphins’ Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a knee injury. On Saturday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t rule out surgery as a possibility for the lineman.

“We’re still evaluating that,” McDaniel said. “It’s not concrete, but that’s not out of the question. But we feel good about the way he’s attacking it, so we’ll see. We’re finding out information.”

McDaniel added that he didn’t believe that a surgical procedure would be season ending for Jackson.

The 2020 first-round pick received a three-year contract extension late in the 2023 season, but has been a bit of a weak link for the Dolphins offensive line so far in 2024. Through eight games, he was credited by Pro Football Focus with allowing a team-high 15 quarterback pressures and had a 60.0 grade.

With Jackson out of action, the Dolphins will likely look to veteran tackle Kendall Lamm to take over in the starting lineup opposite left tackle Terron Armstead. The team also has second-round rookie Patrick Paul.

In a corresponding roster move, the Dolphins added defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. to the active roster.

Dolphins rule out OT Austin Jackson vs. Rams in Week 10

The Dolphins will be without Austin Jackson due to a knee injury and surgery isn’t out of the question.

The Miami Dolphins will be without right tackle Austin Jackson against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, head coach Mike McDaniel announced Saturday, and the team will start Kendall Lamm in his place.

“We’re still evaluating [if he’ll need surgery], it’s nothing concrete,” McDaniel said of Jackson. “It’s not out of the question, but we feel good about how he’s attacking it.”

McDaniel said that even if Jackson did have surgery, he wouldn’t anticipate being a season-ending procedure for the offensive lineman.

Jackson, 25, was a first-round pick in 2020 and received a three-year extension from the Dolphins late in 2023 season. However, he’s been a weak link on the Miami offensive line for much of 2024. He’s allowed a team-high 15 quarterback pressures and three sacks, according to Pro Football Focus.

Lamm, 32, is no stranger to the starting lineup after making eight starts in the place of Terron Armstead during the 2023 season. He’s played 52 pass blocking snaps in 2024 and allowed two pressures.

Terron Armstead on rookie OT Patrick Paul: ‘You see the flashes’

Veteran offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm are impressed with what they’ve seen from Patrick Paul.

If all goes according to plan, Miami Dolphins rookie offensive tackle Patrick Paul probably won’t see the field much in 2024. The mammoth second-round pick will presumably be behind starters Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson on the depth chart, as well as veteran backup Kendall Lamm.

So there isn’t much reason for consternation and hand-wringing about Paul’s inconsistent start to his first training camp with the Dolphins. Instead, Armstead and Lamm say there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about the 6’8 rookie’s future.

“You see the talent; you see the flashes,” Armstead told reporters Tuesday. “Things that he needs to learn and work on, which of course, but I like where he’s at mentally. He’s tough, he’s physical, strong, he’s huge. His ability to move and mirror, stay in front of guys to finish a play has been impressive.

“I like him a lot, I like him a lot. He’s going to be a really good player for a long time. We just got to keep working and fine-tuning some things techniques wise, mindset, a lot of pre-snap adjustments that he can kind of learn from. But that will come with time and experience.”

Paul may be asked to take over starting duties in 2025. Lamm is on a one-year contract and says that the upcoming season will be his “last ride.” Armstead has also contemplated retirement in recent years and the Dolphins could save $14.3 million by releasing the tackle with a post-June 1 designation next offseason.

For now, though, the Dolphins have plenty of reason to be patient and diligent with the development of Paul. And according to his teammates, the positive signs far out-weigh the negatives.
