Brooklyn Nets waive Jordan Hall and Keifer Sykes; sign Kyler Edwards

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Monday that they have requested waivers on Jordan Hall and Keifer Sykes and have signed Kyler Edwards.

The Brooklyn Nets are still in the process of tweaking their roster with training camp more than one week away and one of the moves appears to be undoing something that just recently happened.

The Nets announced two things on Monday. The first action was that they requested waivers on guards Jordan Hall and Keifer Sykes. On Sep. 20, Brooklyn made the announcement that they had signed the two guards and it appeared that both would get a chance to show what they could do during training camp.

The second move was that the Nets signed Kyler Edwards. Edwards, 24, came into the league as an undrafted free-agent out of the University of Houston during the 2022 NBA Draft. He spent the 2022-23 season playing in the G League for the Motor City Cruise, affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.

Edwards, standing at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, played 25 games for Motor City Cruise last season and averaged 12 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 39.5% from the field and 35.2% from deep.

Report: Brooklyn Nets have signed Jordan Hall and Keifer Sykes

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Wednesday that they have signed guard/forward Jordan Hall and guard Keifer Sykes.

The Brooklyn Nets are just weeks away from training camp and yet, they’re still willing to add talent to the roster if it could make the team better down the stretch.

On Wednesday, the team announced that they have signed guard/forward Jordan Hall and guard Keifer Sykes. The announcement did not give any indications on what kind of deals those two were signed to or what the plan for either of them are, but it seems that most people who cover the team believe that both players will be spending most, if not all, of their time this upcoming season in the G League.

Hall, 21, spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs organization, mostly playing for its G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs. Towards the end of August, Brooklyn’s G League team, the Long Island Nets, traded for the returning player rights of Hall from the Austin Spurs in exchange for forward RaiQuan Gray.

Sykes, 29, spent all of last season with the Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons. Before that, he played 32 games for the Indiana Pacers in the 2021-22 season and made a name for himself thanks to the Pacers going through a rebuild and having some injuries as well.

Pacers converting Terry Taylor, Duane Washington to standard NBA contracts

The Pacers will convert the two-way contracts of Terry Taylor and Duane Washington Jr. to standard deals.

On Wednesday, it was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the Indiana Pacers will convert the two-way deals of rookies Terry Taylor and Duane Washington Jr. to standard NBA contracts.

Taylor, who went undrafted last year out of Austin Peay, is averaging 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 31 games. He entered the rotation at the end of January and has played a larger role for the Pacers as the team looks ahead to next season.

Washington is posting 9.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 46 games, including seven starts. He set the Pacers franchise rookie record for 3-pointers on Jan. 24 with seven, surpassing the previous mark of six by Chuck Person and Chris Duarte.

The Pacers will waive rookie Keifer Sykes.

Taylor and Washington each emerged as key players for the Pacers as of late and were both rewarded with long-term contracts. They stayed ready for their opportunity and will look to keep that momentum going into next season with the Pacers.

Upset Special: How Pacers’ rookies sparked road win over Warriors

The short-handed Pacers pulled off an upset win on the road over the Warriors thanks in large part to the efforts of several rookies.

On Thursday, the short-handed Indiana Pacers pulled off an upset win on the road over the Golden State Warriors thanks in large part to the efforts of several first-year players.

Down several starters, including Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner, Malcolm Brogdon and Caris LeVert, the Pacers were forced to rely on other players in the contest. Chris Duarte stepped up to lead the way after tying a career-high with 27 points in the 121-117 overtime win.

To force overtime, the Pacers needed the clutch shooting of Justin Holiday. With 9.4 seconds in regulation, and the Pacers down by three points, Holiday lost Stephen Curry for the open look. He drilled the shot with six seconds remaining.

From there, the Warriors missed a layup and the game went to OT.

Indiana entered the contest as 16.5-point underdogs without four of their starters available. The win marked the third-largest upset of the Warriors under head coach Steve Kerr as the team has now lost six out of their last nine contests.

Here is a more in-depth look at how the Pacers’ rookies played a key role in the upset win.

Pacers to guarantee Keifer Sykes for remainder of 2021-22 season

Sykes is averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in three games as a starter with the Pacers.

Indiana Pacers rookie Keifer Sykes will have his non-guaranteed contract become guaranteed for the remainder of the season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Sykes, who went undrafted in 2015, signed a two-year contract with the Pacers last month after a strong season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA G League. The contract became guaranteed this season when Sykes was not waived prior to the 5 p.m. EST deadline on Friday.

The 28-year-old is averaging 10.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in five games since joining the team. He has started in each of the last three games for the Pacers and is averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds over that span.
