Top defensive lineman Henderson locks in with the Hogs

Four-star defensive lineman, Kavion Henderson, is officially coming to Arkansas.

Four-star defensive lineman, Kavion Henderson, is officially coming to Arkansas.

Henderson took another official visit this past weekend and has turned into an unofficial recruiter on Twitter for the Razorbacks, trying to get other big defensive prospects to come to Fayetteville.

The edge rusher out of Leeds High School in Alabama verbally committed back in November, picking the Hogs over Georgia and Alabama.

“Georgia already got what they want,” Henderson told ESPN back in November. “They already have the edge guys. Arkansas, I want to go somewhere to help. I want to help out, and I want to build. I want to make an impact, so I think Arkansas was the right place.”

Henderson will have an opportunity to play as soon as he steps on campus. This is a big snag for Sam Pittman and Co., beating out Alabama in the head-to-head recruiting battle for the standout.

Arkansas football lands commitment from top defensive end for 2024

Arkansas football receives commitment from top-rated defensive end, Kavion Henderson, for 2024 class.

Following an embarrassing 21-19 loss to Liberty on Saturday, Sam Pittman and Arkansas football were in desperate need of some good news.

On Sunday, that came in the form of Kavion Henderson, a four-star defensive lineman out of Alabama, announcing his commitment to the Hogs via Twitter.

Henderson, a product of Leeds High in Alabama, chose Arkansas over Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn and Cincinnati.

“They (Arkansas) think I can come up there and change the game, get the edge position because they’re not known for having a lot of edge guys,” Henderson told ESPN shortly after committing.

“Georgia already got what they want,” he said. “They already have the edge guys. Arkansas, I want to go somewhere to help. I want to help out and I want to build. I want to make an impact, so I think Arkansas was the right place.”

Through the years Arkansas has struggled with defensive line recruiting when compared to other programs in the SEC. Henderson’s commitment shows that Sam Pittman and his staff are starting to make some headway changing that.

The 6-foot-3, 255 pound Henderson is the Hogs’ highest rated recruit since 2016 and the first commitment for their 2024 class following the de-commitment of Braylen Russell, a four-star running back from Benton (Ark.).

Arkansas football currently has the No. 16 ranked recruiting class for 2023 and if Sunday is any indication, Sam Pittman may be setting up for an even bigger 2024.

Arkansas target Kavion Henderson sets commitment date

Arkansas is in the running to land a 2024 defensive prospect from the state of Alabama.

Arkansas could add depth to the defensive line in the form of a 2024 prospect.

[autotag]Kavion Henderson[/autotag], a four-star defensive lineman from Leeds High School in the metro Birmingham area, shared via Twitter that he will announce his commitment on November 6. He will choose between Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

Arkansas was one of the first to offer Henderson, becoming his 11th offer on January 23. The Arkansas offer came after he attended Junior Day during the same weekend.

Are there any leads as to where Henderson could end up? That part is cloudy as of now. Danny West of HawgSports.com has predicted that Henderson ends up at Arkansas, while Parker Thune of OUInsider predicts that Oklahoma will win the sweepstakes. However, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine believes that Auburn is the front runner, with a 33% forecasted chance to earn his commitment.

Arkansas has had recent success recruiting in the state of Alabama. Currently, three members of Arkansas’ 2023 recruiting class hail from Alabama, specifically the metro Birmingham area.

Alabama extends offer to 2024 in-state DL Kavion Henderson

Alabama offered 2024 defensive lineman Kavion Henderson on Friday. He originally released a top ten with Alabama not included.

Alabama’s coaching staff extended an offer to 2024 in-state defensive lineman Kavion Henderson on Friday. Before receiving the offer, Henderson had already released his top five schools. He cut his list from 10 schools to five schools in August. His most recent offer will certainly make things interesting for the Alabama native.

Henderson plays for Leeds High School in Leeds, Alabama. Although he is listed as a defensive lineman, he will likely convert to outside linebacker at the collegiate level. As of right now, he stands at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. Regardless, the Alabama coaching staff will try to enter the mix to land the in-state prospect.

Thus far, Alabama has received three commitments from three 2024 prospects. Tight end Martavious Collins, athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, and wide receiver Perry Thompson are all verbally committed to Alabama. Now, they will continue their pursuit of one of the nation’s best defensive linemen.

Roll Tide Wire will now break down Kavion Henderson’s recruiting profile.

4-star DE Kavion Henderson announces top 5, sets commitment date

Auburn is looking to keep four-star defensive end Kavion Henderson home.

Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class is off to a great start after the Big Cat weekend.

The Tigers landed four-star cornerback A’Mon Lane and four-star quarterback Adrian Posse on Saturday, giving them their first two commitments of the cycle.

The good news continued when four-star defensive end [autotag]Kavion Henderson[/autotag] included Auburn in his top five schools on Sunday. He will announce his decision on Nov. 6 and will be deciding between Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Cincinnati.

The 6-3, 223-pound Henderson has made multiple visits to Auburn and is a star at Leeds High School, the home of Auburn legend Charles Barkley.

He is ranked as the No. 187 overall player and No. 17 defensive lineman in the 247Sports composite ranking for the 2024 recruiting class. He is also the No. 8 player from Alabama.

While he is listed as a defensive lineman, Auburn has recruited him at the edge spot, an area that is short on depth. This is part of the pitch from edge coach Roc Bellatoni.

“He’s telling me that if I come there and work hard then I can play because they are short on the edge room,” Henderson told Auburn Undercover’s Jason Caldwell. “Even the players are telling me that. I just know I have a chance to make an impact if I go there, but I know it won’t be easy and I’ll have to work hard.”

Clemson continues to show a lot of interest in a top-100 prospect in the class of 2024. Since February, defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall has been in contact with Leeds (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Kavion Henderson.

Henderson — a 6-foot-3, 242-pound junior — currently ranks as the No. 10 player at his position and the nation’s No. 98 overall prospect in the class of 2024, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

“Right now I’ve just been hearing a lot from then,” Henderson told The Clemson Insider Sunday night. “Coach Ski, right after the Under Armour camp, he got in touch with me through Hunter Osborne.”

Henderson is close friends with Osborne, as they work out together on a consistent basis. TCI recently caught up with the four-star defensive end out of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.), who gave the latest on his recruitment and where Clemson stands in the mix of things.

“They really want me,” Osborne said. “I don’t want to say that they need me, because they can get anyone in the country that they want, but they’re really showing the effort that they truly want me as a player and a person. The relationship is there. We talk every single week. Me and Coach (Wesley) Goodwin, Coach (Lemanski) Hall and Coach (Nick) Eason, we talk all the time. They’re just showing that they really want me.”

According to Henderson, Osborne really likes Clemson, as well as Hall and head coach Dabo Swinney. Henderson himself talks with Clemson’s defensive ends coach on a weekly basis. Hall told him that he wants him to come and camp up at Clemson this summer.

“Coach Ski, he’s a great coach,” Henderson said of Hall. “I really like what he does with his edge guys. I just like what he does. I know that they offer late, which sometimes can be a problem to people, but I think it won’t be a problem for me. Definitely a top school and I’d love to visit. I haven’t visited yet, but I will.

“He told me that I’m an offer-type guy. I just gotta go up there. I’ll definitely camp for them and show my skills.”

Speaking of his skills, Henderson describes himself as a “speed-type guy,” who is quick and violent with his hands.

Henderson said that he would love to learn from a number of Clemson’s elite defensive linemen, but he really wants to meet redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Bryan Bresee.

He was previously in contact with former Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates, who has since left for Oklahoma and has become an assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator under Brent Venables. Funny enough, Henderson was at the University of Oklahoma this past weekend for the program’s spring game.

“It was great, man,” he said. “I really liked the atmosphere. The staff was great. Like I said, they was at Clemson, so I was already in contact with Coach Bates when he was at Clemson, so we just started from there. I’m just looking to get down to Clemson now to see what they’re talking about and see how everything goes.”

While Henderson is currently enjoying the recruitment process, he’s identified some factors that he’s already looking for in a school at the next level. His relationship with his position coach will play a big factor, as well as the way they utilize their defensive linemen.

Oklahoma Sooners receive crystal ball projection for 2024 4-star DL Kavion Henderson

In the wake of the Oklahoma Sooners spring game, OU received a crystal ball projection for 2024 4-star defensive lineman Kavion Henderson.

In the wake of 75,000 strong showing up to support the launch of a new era of Oklahoma football, the Sooners are seeing their spring game efforts pay off on the recruiting trail.

The Sooners received favorable predictions for Kaleb Spencer and Mario Craver, and they’ve also received a prediction to land four-star defensive lineman Kavion Henderson out of Leeds, Alabama.

On Sunday, Parker Thune of OUInsider and 247Sports issued a crystal ball prediction for the Sooners to land the highly regarded defensive line prospect from the heart of SEC country.

According to Rivals, Henderson ranks as a top-20 prospect and is inside the top 100 in the 247Sports composite. With Todd Bates and Brent Venables leading the way, Henderson is a priority target for the 2024 recruiting class.

The new defensive staff prioritized defensive line talent upon their arrival to Norman. And from their time at Clemson, they have the track record to pitch to prospects looking to make the jump to the college level with aspirations of playing in the NFL. No team in college football had more sacks and tackles for loss over the last decade than Clemson with Venables at the helm. Venables’ defenses have sent several defensive line talents to the NFL.

The track record speaks for itself.

Henderson has the makings of a great player at the next level. He has a great frame that he knows how to use when engaging blockers. Henderson attacks blockers off the snap and scans the play. His strength allows him to disengage to rush the passer or set the edge in the run game. He does a great job of stringing the play out on wide runs to make the tackle for loss. When teams throw wide receiver screens, he does a great job at keeping contain and not letting the player cut back inside. He has good instincts to read when teams are looking to throw screen passes.

Off the edge as a pass rusher was regularly double teamed but bull-rushed his way through the double team to get the sack. He’s never out of a play and doesn’t give up even if he’s initially slowed on his rush. He’s a patient rusher that will keep working to get through the double team.

Henderson displays a good bull rush and pull-rip on his pass rush and takes excellent angles. He continues to pursue after the quarterback moves in the pocket to avoid the rush, often creating pressure or getting the sack after doubling back on the QB.

As a sophomore, he’s already an incredibly talented player that would add a great deal to the Oklahoma Sooners’ defensive line down the road.

The only other crystal ball on Henderson comes from Arkansas Insider Danny West from March of this year. Henderson must have come away impressed from his time in Norman for Thune to issue a counter prediction following the Sooners’ spring game.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine has Georgia, Auburn and Ole Miss as the leaders for Henderson, though that listing may not have been updated to reflect his visit to Norman.

It’s early in the cycle, but this bodes well as Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners prepare for their future home in the SEC.
