Broncos at Chiefs: Game notes

  • The Broncos (+17) completed just one pass in a 31-3 home loss to the New Orleans Saints late week. Denver had to start rookie WR Kendall Hinton at quarterback because starter Drew Lock and backups Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles were ruled ineligible as high-risk contacts of No. 3 QB Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for COVID-19. Hilton, who was called up from the practice squad and played QB at Wake Forest his first three seasons before moving to WR, completed just 1 of 9 passes for 13 yards with 2 interceptions vs. the Saints. Lock will be back under center to face the Chiefs.
  • The Chiefs enter on a six-game win streak, recently beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-24 on the road in Week 12. QB Patrick Mahomes threw for 462 yards with 3 touchdowns – all to WR Tyreek Hill (13 catches, 269 yards). KC led 20-7 at the half and 27-10 after three quarters but failed to cover as a 3.5-point favorite when Tampa Bay scored the final points with 4:10 to go.
  • The Chiefs have won 10 in a row vs. the Broncos, including a 43-16 road victory as 7-point favorites in Week 7. Mahomes threw for 200 yards with 1 touchdown and no picks, while Lock finished with 254 passing yards with no TDs and 2 interceptions. Kansas City S Daniel Sorensen returned one of those picks for a TD, and WR/KR Byron Pringle returned a kickoff for a 102-yard score.
  • The Broncos last beat the Chiefs in Week 2 of 2015, claiming a 31-24 victory at Kansas City. It was Denver’s seventh consecutive win – and last – in the series.

Betting stats:

  • ATS: Broncos 6-5 | Chiefs 6-5
  • O/U: Broncos 5-6 | Chiefs 5-6

  • WR/KR Byron Pringle (ankle) out/IR

Broncos at Chiefs: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 35, Broncos 24

Money line (?)

PASS. The Broncos (+660) are not winning and the Chiefs’ -1000 price is too expensive.

Against the spread (?)

DENVER +14 (-115) is worth a small play – half your usual wager. Lock’s return will help the Broncos offense, but the Chiefs are still the much better team. Kansas City scores 31.6 points per game and allows 21.6 PPG. Toss out last week’s loss with Hilton at quarterback and Denver has averaged 20.6 PPG this season.

Look for the Chiefs to jump out to a nice lead before the Broncos pull off a backdoor cover.

Over/Under (?)

The OVER 50.5 (-115) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. Kansas City ranks first in the NFL in total yards (425.8) and passing yards (314.5) per game, while its 31.6 PPG ranks second, behind only the Green Bay Packers (31.7).

As long as the Chiefs stick to their average and the Broncos put up 20 points or more, the Over should hit.

Chiefs at Buccaneers: Game notes

  • The Chiefs and Buccaneers are coming off very different primetime results in Week 11. Kansas City used a final-minute touchdown pass from QB Patrick Mahomes to top the rival Las Vegas Raiders 35-31 on Sunday Night Football.
  • The Bucs lost 27-24 to the Los Angeles Rams on a game-winning field goal with under three minutes remaining on Monday Night Football. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady was held to 216 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
  • Mahomes, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, leads the NFL with 3,035 passing yards. He has 27 passing touchdowns against 2 interceptions with another 2 rushing scores.
  • The Buccaneers rank second by Football Outsiders‘ total defensive DVOA. They’re No. 2 against the pass and No. 1 against the run. The Chiefs are 14th overall and 30th against the run.
  • Tampa Bay is third in the league with 5.0 yards allowed per play. Kansas City is second offensively with 6.3 yards gained per play.
  • The Chiefs average a league-high 32.1 points per game on offense. The Bucs score 29.1 PPG.

Chiefs at Buccaneers: Key injuries

Chiefs

  • WR Sammy Watkins (calf, hamstring) probable

Buccaneers

  • Ali Marpet (concussion) probable
  • LB Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) questionable
  • OT Donovan Smith (ankle) questionable

Chiefs at Buccaneers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 32, Buccaneers 23

Money line (?)

The CHIEFS (-186) are moderately favored on the road, as they still have just one loss since Week 10 of the 2019 season. The Chiefs are much more familiar with Brady than the Bucs are with Mahomes and Co., and will be able to use their experience with the former New England Patriots signal-caller to their advantage.

Against the spread (?)

Roll with the CHIEFS -3.5 (-110) to win by at least 4 points. The Bucs’ top-ranked rush defense will only put the ball in the hands of Mahomes more often. As the Raiders found out last week, no lead is safe and the whole league knows the time of possession means little with how quickly the Chiefs’ passing attack can get down the field.

Over/Under (?)

Lean ever so slightly to the UNDER 56 (-110). The Bucs should be able to keep the Chiefs contained early in the game and the opportunistic Chiefs defense could force the suddenly mistake-prone Brady (9 INTs on the season) into some more ill-advised throws when trying to keep pace with Mahomes.

Chiefs at Raiders: Game notes

  • The Raiders are dealing with adversity as they had eight players activated from the COVID reserve list Saturday and will be without four starters due to COVID-19.
  • The Chiefs had a bye in Week 10 and head coach Andy Reid’s teams typically perform well with time off. Since Reid took over as Kansas City’s coach in 2013, the Chiefs are 5-2 straight up and 4-3 ATS coming out of a bye week.
  • Las Vegas had a dominant performance at home vs. the Denver Broncos in Week 10. The Raiders routed the Broncos, 37-12, behind a rushing attack that had 203 rushing yards with four touchdowns and a defense that had five takeaways against Denver.
  • Kansas City’s offense is playing as advertised: 2nd in total yards per game, points per game, and third-down conversion percentage.
  • The Raiders gave the Chiefs their only loss this season, 40-32, in Week 5. It was a clean victory for Las Vegas who had 77 more total yards, were better on third down and possessed the ball for 35:18.

Chiefs at Raiders: Key injuries

Chiefs

  • OT Mike Remmers (ribs) questionable
  • OT Mitchell Schwartz (back) out
  • WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring, calf) out

Raiders

  • DT Maurice Hurst (ankle) questionable
  • KR/RB Jalen Richard (chest) questionable
  • LB Cory Littleton (COVID-19) out
  • LT Trent Brown (COVID-19) out
  • DE Clelin Ferrell (COVID-19) out

Chiefs at Raiders: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 29, Raiders 24

Money line (?)

This is a PASS for me mostly because of the insane situational edge for the Chiefs. Week 10 was an easy victory for the Raiders, but it was still a division game, while Reid is coming off a bye with the defending Super Bowl champions looking to avenge their only loss.

I don’t know my buy price for a Raiders upset, but it’s not what BetMGM is offering.

Against the spread (?)

Reid-trends be damned, I am ROLLING WITH THE RAIDERS +7 (+105). I’d recommend waiting closer to kickoff to see if you can get this over a full touchdown especially since people like hammering favorites at the end of football Sundays.

The House is going to NEED the Raiders to come through for them: 86% of the money wagered and 87% of the bets made are on the Chiefs, according to Pregame.com.

Kansas City has a bottom-10 run defense across most categories and Las Vegas gains the seventh-most yards on the ground per game and runs the ball at the fifth-highest rate in the NFL.

Jon Gruden and the Raiders are going to pound the rock and control the tempo of this game. GIMME RAIDERS +7 (-106) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (?)

I’m not usually a trends bettor but here are a few good ones to explain my lean on UNDER 56.5 (-106):

  • Kansas City has a 1-5-1 O/U record following a bye week while Reid has been the coach.
  • The Chiefs are 0-5 O/U in their last five games vs. a team above .500.
  • The Under is 6-2 in Kansas City’s last eight prime-time games.

I’ll TAKE UNDER 56.5 (-106) for a quarter-unit.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Jets +19.5 (-110) | Chiefs -19.5 (-110)

Jets at Chiefs game notes

  • The Jets have the league’s worst offense in both points and yards. They average 264.4 yards of offense per game and 12.1 points.
  • The Chiefs are No. 5 in scoring, averaging 31.1 points per game.
  • Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has thrown 16 touchdown passes to only one interception this season.
  • The Jets are the only winless team left in the league.
  • The Chiefs’ point differential of plus-75 is 10 points fewer than what the Jets have scored all season.

Jets at Chiefs key injuries

Jets

  • WR Breshad Perriman (concussion) doubtful
  • WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring) questionable
  • Bradley MacDougald (shoulder) questionable

Chiefs

  • WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) questionable
  • OT Mitchell Schwartz (back) questionable

Jets at Chiefs: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 34, Jets 10

Money line (?)

The Chiefs are one of the league’s best teams and the Jets are clearly the worst. They can’t score points and do not stop anyone.

While the Chiefs are a sure thing to win, the -2500 just doesn’t win you any money. AVOID.

Against the spread (?)

The Jets have managed to cover the spread in only one of their seven games this season. The Chiefs have covered in five of their seven games. Again, the Chiefs score a lot of points and the Jets neither stop teams nor score. Take the CHIEFS -19.5 (-110).

Over/Under (?)

Surprisingly, three of seven Jets games have gone Over the total. The same is with the Chiefs. Once the Chiefs pull ahead, they will slow things down, while the Jets won’t be able to do much. They won’t score enough to push the total to 49 points. Take OVER 48.5 (-110).

Kansas City Chiefs favored by a landslide vs. New York Jets in Week 8

The Kansas City Chiefs are monster betting favorites in their Week 8 home matchup with the New York Jets.

The Kansas City Chiefs (6-1) head into their Week 8 home game against the New York Jets (0-7) as monster betting favorites. Below, we take a look at the early Week 8 betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

The reigning Super Bowl champs are coming off another impressive victory in Week 7. The Chiefs beat the AFC West rival Denver Broncos 43-16 in the snow at Empower Field at Mile High. QB Patrick Mahomes had a light day of work, as he attempted just 23 passes and finished with 200 yards and a touchdown. RBs Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le’Veon Bell had 46 and 39 yards, respectively, with CEH finding the end zone. The Chiefs scored a defensive touchdown and a kick return TD.

The Jets remain winless on the season following an 18-10 loss at home to the rival Buffalo Bills Sunday. QB Sam Darnold returned from injury to complete just 12 of 23 passes for 120 yards with two interceptions and no scores. Rookie WR Denzel Mims caught four of seven targets for 42 yards in his NFL debut.

Jets at Chiefs betting odds, spread and line

Odds via BetMGM; last updated Monday at 10:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Jets +1200 (bet $100 to win $1,200) / Chiefs -2500 (bet $2,500 to win $100) | Bet now
  • Against the spread: Jets +20, -110 (bet $110 to win $100) / Chiefs -20, -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Bet now
  • Total: 47.5, Over -115 (bet $115 to win $100) / Under -106 (bet $106 to win $100) | Bet now

New to NFL betting?

The Jets are being spotted three scores and will need to stay within 19 points in a loss or win outright to cover the spread. The +1200 money line represents an implied win probability of 7.69% or 12/1 fractional odds. A loss by exactly 20 points would be a push and all wagers on either side of the line would be refunded.

Place your legal, online NFL bets in CO, IN, NJ and WV at BetMGM. Risk-free first bet! Terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

The Chiefs have an implied win probability of 96.15% with their -2500 odds. It’s a very chalky number with a $10 bet returning a profit of just 40 cents. They’ll need to win by at least 21 points in order to cover the spread.
