Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) head to Tampa to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) in a rematch of Super Bowl LV. Sunday’s kickoff at Raymond James Stadium is set for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Chiefs vs. Buccaneers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chiefs are coming off a surprising 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. Kansas City committed several uncharacteristic mistakes on special teams and closed the game with an INT by QB Patrick Mahomes. The Bucs lost 14-12 to the Green Bay Packers last week after failing to convert a 2-point conversion in the final seconds.

The last time the Chiefs and Bucs faced each other was in Super Bowl LV in February 2021. The Bucs dominated in a 31-9 victory despite being 3-point underdogs. The Bucs lead the overall series over the Chiefs 8-6 and are 4-0 ATS against the Chiefs in their last 4 meetings. The Chiefs and Bucs are a combined 1-5 on hitting the Over in total points; the Chiefs did it in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, going 11 points over the 54-point total.

Chiefs at Buccaneers picks and predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 23, Buccaneers 17

Moneyline

With a half-point spread, this is basically a pick ’em game, which makes it one of the most exciting matchups in Week 4.

The Chiefs will look to get right after being embarrassed by the Colts last week. K.C. hopes to get better kicker play out of the newly-signed Matthew Wright after a disastrous Week 3 that saw Matt Ammendola miss a field goal and extra point.

The Bucs are allowing an average of just 9 points per game, best in the NFL. However, they’ve yet to face an offense as good as Kansas City’s this season. This should still be a close, low-scoring matchup with both defenses performing well this season, but with Tampa Bay’s offense banged up and not playing well, this seems like a bounce-back game for the Chiefs.

I like the CHIEFS -105.

Against the spread

Since the spread is only at half of a point, you’re better off betting the moneyline. However, if the line jumps up to 1 or 1.5 points before you place a bet Sunday, taking the CHIEFS ATS might be the best move since the payout will be close to the same as the moneyline, and K.C. could plausibly win by just 1 point.

Over/Under

The Bucs are allowing just 9 points per game (1st) and are scoring just 17 points per game (9th worst). The Chiefs are scoring 29.3 points per game (4th best) and are allowing 21.7 points per game (16th best). The numbers average out to around 20 points for each squad, which is about where this game should land.

Despite the big names at QB, this should be more of a defensive matchup. Both teams are in the NFL’s top 5 in sacks and top 10 in average yards per carry allowed. The Bucs are also 1st in the NFL in takeaways. On paper there shouldn’t be much scoring, so the game should fall Under 46 points. Play the UNDER 46.5 (-115) lightly.

Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Super Bowl LV Prediction and Picks

Prediction

Chiefs 33, Buccaneers 28

Super Bowl money line (?)

Brady is widely considered the greatest quarterback of all time, but a head-to-head win by Mahomes and a second straight Super Bowl for the Chiefs would leave that conversation open.

What Tampa Bay does best on defense is eliminate the run game. Against Kansas City, that only puts the ball in Mahomes’ hands more often. He also has the mobility and athleticism to evade Tampa Bay’s pass rush, which ranked fifth by ESPN’s Team Pass Rush Win Rate.

Take the CHIEFS (-175) to go back-to-back and win Super Bowl 55.

New to sports betting? As the Super Bowl LV favorite, you’d need to bet $175 at -175 odds on the Chiefs to win in order to profit $100. -175 represents a 63.64% implied odds of winning, or 4/7 fractional odds.

Super Bowl against the spread (?)

The Buccaneers’ best hope in Super Bowl 55 is to keep Mahomes and the Chiefs offense off the field. They’ll look to feed RBs Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette as often as possible.

Brady also has plenty of receiving weapons capable of working the clock via the passing game, but it will all be for naught against Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. If the Chiefs are able to get a lead, they’ll then turn to rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire to drain the clock and keep Brady away from an attempted comeback.

Back KANSAS CITY -3.5 (-105) to win by at least 4 points.

If you’re new to sports betting, in order for a bet on the Chiefs ATS to cash, they need to win by at least 4 points. If they win by three or less, it would be a losing bet slip.

Super Bowl Over/Under (?)

As mentioned, the Chiefs fell shy of the projected line in last year’s championship game, though that was mostly the fault of the 49ers.

Expect a high-flying aerial attack in perfect conditions in Tampa, Fla. We’re backing the Chiefs to win, so we’re also expecting Mahomes to be at his best.

Take the OVER 56.5 (-110) with Brady and the Bucs doing more to contribute to the total than bettors received from the Niners last year.

If you are new to sports betting, betting the Over would require both teams to combine for at least 57 points for an Over bet to win.

Chiefs at Buccaneers: Key injuries

  • LB Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) questionable
  • OT Donovan Smith (ankle) questionable

Chiefs at Buccaneers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 32, Buccaneers 23

Money line (?)

The CHIEFS (-186) are moderately favored on the road, as they still have just one loss since Week 10 of the 2019 season. The Chiefs are much more familiar with Brady than the Bucs are with Mahomes and Co., and will be able to use their experience with the former New England Patriots signal-caller to their advantage.

Against the spread (?)

Roll with the CHIEFS -3.5 (-110) to win by at least 4 points. The Bucs’ top-ranked rush defense will only put the ball in the hands of Mahomes more often. As the Raiders found out last week, no lead is safe and the whole league knows the time of possession means little with how quickly the Chiefs’ passing attack can get down the field.

Over/Under (?)

Lean ever so slightly to the UNDER 56 (-110). The Bucs should be able to keep the Chiefs contained early in the game and the opportunistic Chiefs defense could force the suddenly mistake-prone Brady (9 INTs on the season) into some more ill-advised throws when trying to keep pace with Mahomes.
