Former Alabama DL Stephon Wynn is transferring to Nebraska

The former four-star recruit has announced his transfer destination.

After just a little over a month since first declaring that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal, former Alabama defensive lineman [autotag]Stephon Wynn[/autotag] has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The former four-star recruit appeared in just 18 games during his four-year career with the Crimson Tide, totaling just 16 tackles.

Wynn becomes the second former Crimson Tide player to take his talents to Lincoln to join the Cornhuskers. On May 15, former Alabama defensive back [autotag]Kaine Williams[/autotag] announced that he would be making the move to Nebraska.

Standing at 6-4, 307 pounds, Wynn possesses the necessary size to help plug the interior of the Nebraska defensive line and is likely to earn some quick playing time for Scott Frost who is entering his fifth season as the head coach in Lincoln.

Wynn announced his commitment to Frost and the Cornhuskers on Sunday afternoon with a hype video on his Twitter account.

Former Alabama Safety Commits to Nebraska

Nebraska adds depth to the defensive backfield by receiving the commitment of a former Nick Saban recruit!

On Sunday morning, a former Alabama safety announced that he has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the upcoming 2022 season. Kaine Williams was a four-star defensive back out of Marrero, Louisiana, who was a member of the Alabama 2021 recruiting class. According to recruiting website Rivals, Willaims was the seventh-ranked prospect in the state, the 11th ranked safety, and the 172nd ranked prospect for the entire 2021 class.  He signed with ‘Bama over other SEC schools such as Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

During his year in Tuscaloosa, Williams appeared in only one game, the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, covering kickoffs on special teams. He officially entered the transfer portal on April 25th and is the 18th Alabama player to enter the portal either during or after the season. It was back on May 2nd that the defensive back announced he would visit Nebraska the weekend of May 13-15, and it was during that visit, that Williams made his official commitment.

Check out the list below to look at some of Nebraska’s additions via the NCAA Transfer Portal this season.

Alabama safety Kaine Williams announces transfer destination

The rising sophomore safety will be leaving the SEC for the BIG 10.

The transfer portal sure brings in high-quality talent to the Crimson Tide football program, but it can just as easily take some away.

On April 25, rising sophomore safety, Kaine Williams, announced he would be entering the transfer portal. Today, less than a month later, he has announced his transfer destination: Nebraska.

Williams joined Alabama via the 2021 recruiting class as a four-star safety out of Louisiana. He did not record any stats in his true freshman season with the Crimson Tide.

DeMarcco Hellams and Jordan Battle are expected to start at safety for Alabama in 2022, with plenty of depth behind them.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama football throughout the 2022 offseason.

Nebraska looking to add former Bama safety to its defense

The Huskers remain busy with the transfer portal, and this time they’re looking to add help in the secondary.

Nebraska continues to look for talent wherever they can find it, and the one place where the Huskers have had success this offseason is the transfer portal. The last week alone had proven fruitful when Ochaun Mathis and Devin Drew announced their transfer commitments. Now Nebraska is looking to add some help in the secondary, and they may have found their man in transfer Alabama safety Kaine Williams. The Louisiana native was part of the 2021 recruiting class and was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, according to 247sports. He signed with ‘Bama over other SEC schools such as Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

In his one season in Tuscaloosa, Williams appeared in one game, the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, and recorded no stats in his time on the field. However, coming out of high school, Williams had an impressive resume. He had 52 tackles, ten tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries during his senior prep season. Now Williams has announced via social media that he will be visiting Lincoln this month, May 13-15.

A scholarship offer has been made to the defensive back. Still, he’s proven to be a popular guy as he also has announced offers from Temple, Kansas, Indiana, and Buffalo, with more offers expected in the coming days. It’s another example of Nebraska using its resources not just to try and bring in talent but win right now talent. Williams might be one of those guys. Still, with almost no time on the field last year, we’ll have to wait and see how he performs, no matter who he might be playing for this season. No word on when a commitment announcement might take place, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Alabama DB Kaine Williams enters the NCAA transfer portal

Another Alabama defender enters the NCAA transfer portal

Last week Nick Saban and the Alabama football team saw its first player enter the NCAA transfer portal post-spring in reserve defensive lineman Stephon Wynn.

On Monday, the Tide had another reserve defender decide to move on from Tuscaloosa. This time it is defensive back Kaine Williams.

Williams joined the Tide as a part of the 2021 signing class and was regarded as a consensus four-star safety prospect. The Louisiana native redshirted during his first season with Alabama in 2021.

Matt Zenitz of On3 was the first to report on the news of Williams’ intentions to transfer and shortly after Williams would release a statement on Twitter confirming the news.

Williams chose Alabama over Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, and Texas A&M coming out of high school.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Williams as he looks for a new home.

Breaking down Alabama’s 2021 commitments: S Kaine Williams

Four-star safety Kaine Williams is the next man up on Roll Tide Wire’s list of breaking down Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class.

After a rocking start, the Alabama Crimson Tide is steadily climbing up the recruiting rankings for the 2021 class. As things stand, that class is 25th (No. 7 in the SEC) according to 247Sports and 28th (No. 8) according to Rivals.com.

With eight commitments, Roll Tide Wire decided to break those pledges down player-by-player for you. Next up on the list is safety Kaine Williams out of Marrero, Louisiana.

Kaine Williams, Safety

Height: 6-2 / Weight: 205

High School: John Ehret High School, Marrero, Louisiana

Ranking (247Sports comp): 4-star / No. 155 overall / No. 6 S / No. 6 LA

Ranking (247Sports): 4-star / N/A overall / No. 18 S / No. 12 LA

Ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 120 overall / No. 6 S / No. 5 LA

Ranking (ESPN): 4-star / No. 169 overall / No. 5 S / No. 6 LA

Analysis: When evaluating safety play, the most ideal candidates, as pointed out by NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah, are the ones who can: 1) play as a high safety 2) be a force player against the run or 3) line up and cover in the slot. To be considered an effective option on the backend, a player needs to be able to do at least two of those three things.

Kaine Williams should be able to do at least two of those at Alabama. He’s rangy enough with the needed athleticism and ball skills to be impactful in deep coverage as a high safety, but he’s got the body type and physical style to be a force player against the run.

For those reasons, the four-star safety is an intriguing prospect for the Crimson Tide, and he should eventually work his way into being a starter at some point down the line — even if its not until the 2022 season or beyond.

BREAKING: 4-star safety Kaine Williams commits to Alabama

On Friday evening, 4 star safety Kaine Williams made an announcement via twitter, that he committed to the Crimson Tide.

On Friday evening, 4 star safety Kaine Williams made an announcement via twitter, that he committed to the Crimson Tide.

Williams, who is from Marrero, Louisiana, played at John Ehret High School.

He chose Alabama over his other two finalists, LSU and Texas A&M.

According to 247 Sports, Williams is the 6th best recruit of the 2021 recruit in Louisiana, and is also the 5th best safety nationally, and is also ranked 141st overall.

In two seasons, Williams racked up 123 tackles and 10 interceptions.

At 6-foot-2, and 205 pounds, this is a fantastic pick up for the Crimson Tide.

247Sports has this to say about Williams:

“Big-framed safety with good height and bulk relative to the position. Owns virtually college-ready size at safety and could grow into hybrid player or true off-line linebacker. Rangy at the back end and instinctive in coverage. Big production as a sophomore with six INT’s. Dipped slightly as a junior but still good production. Has consistently shown good ball skills, as evidenced by 10 INT’s in two seasons. Willing participant against the run with encouraging pursuit ability and closing speed. Generally delivers some pop upon arrival. Needs to improve consistency with tackling technique as he sometimes hunts for the big hit. Takes chances as a tackler. Athleticism lacks context. No verified 40 or track times. Owns free safety traits but frame could dictate a move closer to the line of scrimmage. May ideally be a scheme fit. Talented back seven prospect who projects to Power Five level possible long-term NFL Draft ceiling.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to keep you up to date with the very latest regarding Alabama’s 2021 signing class.

Texas Longhorns Offer 2021 Four-Star Safety

The Texas Longhorns have made their fourth offer to a four-star safety of the 2021 recruiting class. Kaine Williams of Marrero, Louisiana.

The third-rated safety in the state of Louisiana, Kaine Williams has picked up an offer from the University of Texas. Williams becomes the fourth safety to be offered a scholarship from Texas and the highest rated of the four. Williams could come in and challenge for playing time immediately.

Williams is a ball-hawk that the Longhorns defense could definitely use to help out their defense. He can be dangerous after the change of possession as he looks to score and a very solid tackler as well. Most analysts are projecting him to Louisiana State but it would be a huge get for Tom Herman if they could sway the safety to patrol the secondary in Austin.
