Georgia’s biggest remaining recruiting need in the 2025 class

Georgia’s biggest remaining recruiting need is clear in the class of 2025 recruiting cycle

With early signing day less than a month away here are some of the top needs and remaining targets for Georgia football. Head coach Kirby Smart and company are still looking to add a few elite recruits to the class of 2025 recruiting cycle.

Donovan Starr

Donavan Starr is a four-star cornerback prospect that is committed to Auburn right now. Kirby Smart and UGA offered Starr last week and Starr has been interested in what the Bulldogs have for him.

A cornerback prospect is a huge need for the Bulldogs. Georgia only has one cornerback commitment after to Shamari Earls’ decommitment. Starr is 5-foot-11 and has great technical skills already with the ability to compete every rep. Starr would be a huge addition for this class to help shore up depth in the secondary for next year.

CJ Wiley

CJ Wiley is ranked as a four-star on On3.com. Wiley is an in-state blue-chip wide receiver prospect. A potential commitment from Wiley will complement the quick Georgia receiver commit Tayln Taylor, who is looked at by major recruiting sites as a difference-maker.

Wiley has always been on top of the Georgia’s list regardless of his former commitment to Florida State. Wiley is well on his way to another 1,000 yard season for Milton High School who is looking to repeat as 7A champions.

Wiley’s play style as a big body receiver is something that the Bulldogs receiver room has not seen much of since Lawrence Cager left. With a commitment from Wiley the future for the receiver position for the Bulldogs would be looking bright. Texas A&M is another team to watch in Wiley’s recruitment.

Justus Terry

Justus Terry is looked at as a five-star across all recruiting platforms. Terry has been on the Bulldogs radar since committing in 2023. Terry since then has decommitted from Georgia to USC to decommitting from USC.

He is one of two uncommitted five-stars left in this recruiting cycle, so he is a huge priority for Georgia. Terry could play alongside blue chip defensive line prospect Elijah Griffin if he commits back to the Bulldogs.

Terry’s commitment could bring back the flashes of the dominant defensive line in 2021 and 2022 season. Terry is disruptor from anywhere along the defensive line and has versatility that we have not seen since Jalen Carter. Terry creates havoc at high rate in opposing team’s backfield and has the capability to create a day one impact.

Five-star DL Justus Terry visits Austin for Texas-Georgia game

The Manchester High School product is ranked as the second-best defensive lineman in Georgia and the second-best player in the state

When the Texas Longhorns take on the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, one of the top recruits in the 2025 class will be in attendance. Five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will reportedly be in Austin for his official visit with the Longhorns. The Manchester High School product is ranked as the second-best defensive lineman in Georgia and the second-best player in the state by 247sports.

While Terry is expected to land with Bulldogs, the Longhorns will have their chance to make their pitch this weekend. Due to his potential, Terry has also received offers from some of the top programs in the country, such as Alabama, Florida State, and Georgia.

If the Longhorns were to add Terry to the mix, they would have one of the best 2025 classes in the country. He also fits the mold of who the Longhorns have targeted under Steve Sarkisian. In recent years, Texas has excelled at developing defensive linemen. That list includes Bryon Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat,

Although the Longhorns face an uphill battle, getting Terry on campus is a big win. A victory over No.5 Georgia could also help their case as the Longhorns look to continue this undefeated 2024 campaign. Top-rated recruits Riley Pettijohn and Kevin Wynn will also be in attendance.

The Longhorns 2025 recruiting class currently consists of 21 commits, including four five-star prospects.

2025 5-star DL Justus Terry to visit Alabama on September 28 for Georgia game

2025 five-star Justus Terry will be in Tuscaloosa for Alabama’s Week 4 matchup against Georgia. His father confirmed the news to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

2025 five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will be making his way from the Peach state to Tuscaloosa for Alabama’s Week 4 matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs. Terry’s father confirmed the news with On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

Terry is a highly-coveted prospect that hails from Manchester, Georgia. He was committed to the Bulldogs for over a year before flipping his commitment to the USC Trojans. Terry was committed to the Trojans for about three months before reopening his recruitment.

He is currently being recruited by the likes of Georgia and Alabama. Both schools believe they have a fair shot at landing the the blue-chip prospect. Terry has visited Georgia seven times. He has visited Alabama two times.

Like most recruits, Terry is waiting to see how the Crimson Tide fair under the direction of head coach Kalen DeBoer. If Alabama is able to defeat the Bulldogs, it could go a long way in Terry’s recruitment. The fact that the Alabama coaching staff has already secured a visit from Terry is monumental given the type of prospect that he is.

During his junior season, Terry record 78 tackles, 13 sacks, and six tackles for loss. At 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, he is one of the most physically gifted prospects in the ’25 recruiting class. Alabama is doing everything that it can to give itself the best chance of landing his signature during the early signing period in December.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program and its recruiting efforts.

Pair of 5-stars predicted to commit to Georgia

The two top recruits in Georgia are projected to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs

Five-star defensive linemen Justus Terry and Elijah Griffin are projected to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs. The two elite defensive line recruits are visiting the University of Georgia over the last weekend in July.

“I think those are two five-stars that it is hard for us to not see them in Georgia’s class,” said recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong of On3. “Even when Justus Terry committed to USC, if you would have asked me a minute after he announced to USC, back during the spring. Where I thought he would sign come December I would have said Georgia.”

“I just think right now it is trending heavy for Georgia to land them (Justus Terry and Elijah Griffin) both,” continued Wiltfong.

Terry decommitted from the USC Trojans several months ago and then took an official visit to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Terry would be one of the defining pieces of Georgia’s class of 2025 if the Bulldogs can sign him. Terry, who was previously committed to Georgia, is the No. 7 recruit in the nation, per On3.

Justus Terry is the second-ranked recruit in Georgia and the second-ranked defensive lineman in the nation. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive lineman plays high school football for Manchester High School in Manchester, Georgia.

Elijah Griffin, who is the No. 4 recruit in the country, plays high school football for Savannah Christian Prep in Savannah, Georgia. Griffin is the top recruit in Georgia and the top defensive line prospect in the nation.

Georgia loves landing top tier defensive line talent and the best players in the Peach State. Griffin and Terry check both of those boxes and would represent massive recruiting wins for Georgia.

Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia football have the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class in the 2025 cycle. If Georgia can land Terry and Griffin, then the Dawgs will be in the conversation to have the top class in the country.

USC fans vent on YouTube show, hope Jennifer Cohen’s NIL performance will improve

USC football fans expect Jen Cohen to get this NIL operation straightened out.

USC fans want and need athletic director Jennifer Cohen to be better. They specifically hope she can right the ship in the NIL realm.

We are writing about this:

“This is not a Lincoln Riley problem. This is a Jen Cohen problem. The coaches don’t run the fundraising programs. They sell the program and try to convince players to join. The NIL program is an administrative effort which points to internal operations supporting the coaches in their recruiting efforts.

“Eric Henderson did his job in March. The NIL program, by all appearances, didn’t support the coaches enough. Jen Cohen has to have the tough conversations behind the scenes to ensure USC doesn’t continue to get outgunned, and that commitments of NIL resources have the reliability and follow-through to retain the confidence of both recruits and coaches.”

Blame Lincoln Riley for many things, but not Justus Terry and Isaiah Gibson

Coaching failures are very different from structural or administrative failures.

We can blame Lincoln Riley for a lot of problems at USC football. We can blame him for not firing Alex Grinch before the 2023 season. We can blame him for retaining Donte Williams, a move which clearly backfired. We can blame him for USC’s offensive line not being as good as it could have been or should have been. We can blame him for USC having a soft, weak team in 2023 which got pushed around at the line of scrimmage. We can blame him for bringing Bennie Wylie to Los Angeles instead of hiring a better strength coach. Believe us, we’ve mentioned Lincoln Riley’s flaws and haven’t shied away from doing so. We haven’t treated him with kid gloves. However, all criticism has to be fair. It has to be reasonable. With Justus Terry and Isaiah Gibson, two prime defensive recruits who just decommitted from USC, this is not a failure of Lincoln Riley or Eric Henderson.

Lincoln Riley hired Henderson to sell USC’s new emphasis on NFL-quality player development. That hire — and the sales pitch attached to it — successfully gained a commitment. That was a tangible achievement. The fact that the commitment didn’t hold up — with Terry and Gibson changing their minds — points to factors other than the coaching staff. These decommitments weren’t the product of Eric Henderson suddenly becoming less of an authority on defensive line coaching and player development. These decommitments didn’t occur because D’Anton Lynn somehow became a less impressive defensive coordinator. No, this was almost surely about player compensation and what was put on the table by USC, compared to other schools these players visited.

Coaches can tell players what is available to them. Other people have to follow through and deliver what is available. We need to be able to identify coaching failures and separate them from administrative or structural failures, and be clear in saying as much.

Lincoln Riley was a bad coach at USC in 2023. He learned from his mistakes, but he is still paying a steep price for all the huge mistakes he made last year. That said, this episode is not a coaching failure. We can admit that, and Riley’s harshest critics have to admit that as well.

Five-star DL projected to commit to Georgia football

Five-star defensive lineman is projected to commit to UGA football again

Five-star defensive line recruit Justus Terry is projected to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs. Terry recently decommitted from the USC Trojans.

Terry would be one of the defining pieces of Georgia’s class of 2025 if the Bulldogs can sign him. Terry was previously committed to Georgia and is ranked as the No. 7 recruit in the nation.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive lineman plays high school football for Manchester High School in Manchester, Georgia. Terry is the second-ranked recruit in Georgia and the second-ranked defensive lineman in the nation.

“My recruitment is open!” noted Terry in a post via social media. After Terry’s recent decommitment, many experts thinks he’ll wind up back at Georgia. However, Terry is going on an official visit with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia football have ascended up the recruiting rankings in recent weeks and don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Georgia finished with the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the 2024 cycle and is looking to repeat that feat with the class of 2025.

Georgia, USC and Justus Terry show how weird recruiting has become

Was USC favored to sign Justus Terry even after it got a verbal commitment from him?

Five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry decommitted from USC, as you know by now. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Terry had previously given his verbal pledge to Georgia before flipping his commitment to the Trojans on March 24. Terry will now visit Alabama over the weekend for an official visit according to On3. Football recruiting just doesn’t make sense for a lot of people these days. Verbal commitments don’t seem to mean much because they often don’t last very long. USC has seemingly defeated Georgia in Terry’s recruitment, but when decisions change so frequently, victory isn’t really final until the player signs on the dotted line.

Terry has offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami and South Carolina among others.

MaxPreps Junior All-America second-team selection Justus Terry helped Manchester go 11-3. He led the Blue Devils to their first state title game appearance in 26 years. The Georgia native had 78 tackles (6.5 TFL), 13 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles in 2023.

His 2022 sophomore year campaign produced 38 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and an INT in 10 games. He also got some snaps at tight end, catching 3 passes for 100 yards and 1 TD Per Max Preps

USC’s 2025 class has been rocked over the past 48 hours. Four-star defensive end Isaiah Gibson also backed off his commitment Tuesday after giving his pledge earlier this spring.

I expect Terry to possibly land back home, flipping to Georgia and Kirby Smart again. However, his official visit with Alabama this weekend will be important as the Tide rank second in schools trying to land the five star defensive lineman. Who’s the favorite for Terry? All we know in recruiting is that it isn’t over until it’s actually over.

USC loses 5-star defensive end commitments on back-to-back days

LOLOLOLOL USC

As one of Notre Dame football’s biggest rivals, we are always watching what USC is doing on-and-off the field.

Over the last two days, the program has lost two of its best commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. On Tuesday, the loss was Georgia resident [autotag]Isaiah Gibson[/autotag], who is on an official visit to Ohio State.

On Wednesday, USC they lost another elite edge rusher — and another Georgian. [autotag]Justus Terry[/autotag] reopened the recruiting process and moved on. Gibson is the nation’s No. 36 overall player while Terry is the country’s No. 7 player on the 247Sports composite.

Although the Irish aren’t major players in either of their recruitments, it’s always good to see USC struggling.

Justus Terry, a 5-star, has de-committed from USC and will visit Alabama

Justus Terry has de-committed from USC.

It has not been a good 48 hours for the USC Trojans, with two recruits ranked as five-stars de-committing from the program.

The latest loss for USC is Justus Terry, who will now be visiting Alabama over the weekend for an official visit according to On3.

A 6-foot-5, 275-pound interior defensive lineman for Manchester High School (Manchester, Georgia), Terry is the seventh overall recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. He also has offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami and South Carolina among others.

On Tuesday, USC lost a commitment from Isaiah Gibson, a five-star who is the top-ranked edge player in the nation. Per 247Sports, he is the No. 17 player in the nation and the sixth-best recruit in Georgia.

Terry announced his decision to de-commit from USC with what was a pretty stark and simple post on social media:

Last season, Terry put up monster numbers for Manchester. The defensive tackle had 78 total tackles and 13 sacks along with six tackles for a loss.
