Justin Jefferson makes Vikings’ history on Thursday Night

The young phenom continues to rack up yardage for the Vikings.

Justin Jefferson continues to soar to new heights as a Viking receiver. Jefferson, who had three catches on the opening drive against the Rams, moved into the top five in Vikings’ history for career receiving yards after he caught his first pass of the game.

Jefferson surpassed Jake Reed, who had 6,433 receiving yards during his time in Minnesota. Jefferson still has to get past Adam Thielen, Anthony Carter, Randy Moss, and Cris Carter to get to the top of the mountain of Viking greatness. Carter has 12,383 career yards with Minnesota.

The former 2020 first-round pick is into his fifth season with Minnesota. Barring any injuries, Jefferson has more than a shot to get to where Carter is at with how dynamic he is and the way Minnesota throws the football with Kevin O’Connell.

Former LSU receivers continue to dominate the NFL

LSU continues to earn the title of WRU early in 2024.

For years, LSU was known as “DBU.”

The Tigers were synonymous with sending star defensive backs to the NFL. In recent years, former LSU defensive backs have continued to produce, but LSU has claimed the mantle at another position — wide receiver.

Three of the NFL’s six leading receivers are LSU products. [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] leads the NFL with 620 yards. [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] rank fifth and sixth with 531 and 513 yards, respectively.

Further down the leaderboard, [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] ranks 14th with 427 yards. He sits eight in catches, despite only playing five games and getting rough quarterback play.

LSU put receivers in the NFL throughout the 2000s and 2010s. [autotag]Dwayne Bowe[/autotag] and [autotag]Brandon LaFell[/autotag] eventually gave way to [autotag]Odell Beckham Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Jarvis Landry[/autotag]. But the group in the league now is deeper and more talented.

Its a young group too, and its set up to lead the NFL for some time. Thomas and Nabers are rookies while Chase and Jefferson are just getting around to their second contracts.

Ohio State has a claim to “WRU” too with Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Marvin Harrison Jr. in the league. But that core doesn’t stack up with LSU’s at the moment.

LSU has another promising group of receivers on campus now. [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Anderson[/autotag] both rank in the top 10 in the SEC in receiving yards and will aim to be LSU’s next difference makers at the next level.

Minnesota sports stars Justin Jefferson, Anthony Edwards recreate iconic photo

The Minnesota legends lived up to the billing by doing this.

Back in 2000, Viking star wide receiver Randy Moss and Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett teamed up for one of the most epic photos in recent memory. It was on ESPN magazine, and Moss wore a Garnett jersey, and Garnett wore a Moss jersey.

On Tuesday, the photo was recreated between the newest Minnesota stars. Justin Jefferson and Anthony Edwards teamed up to recreate the photo that Minnesota fans will always remember.

In the original photo, Randy Moss wore diamond studs, and Kevin Garnett boasted miniature gold hoops and a nondescript band around his left wrist. Now, Jefferson pairs larger diamond studs with a layered diamond chain; Edwards also wears a necklace, along with a black hoop through his right earlobe.

With the NBA opening up on Tuesday night, the photo was perfect for spreading across the internet.

PFF Grades: Best and worst from Vikings Week 7 loss to the Lions

Thanks to PFF, we will always have an extra set of eyes to examine the football game.

The team’s loss to the Lions led to the team realizing they are, in fact, human. They showed resiliency and a drive to fight back as they made a defensive play to get the lead late in the fourth quarter. This time, more than most this year, the PFF grades are going to be very interesting.

Anthony Edwards wants to play in the NFL and fans shouldn’t doubt how serious he is

Anthony Edwards REALLY wants to play in the NFL.

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards says a lot of fascinating stuff but his latest comments are particularly intriguing.

Edwards, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and is establishing himself as one of the most exciting young basketball players in the world, has big plans for his next few years.

The 23-year-old guard recently spoke to ESPN for a story about him and Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. According to Edwards, if he wins an NBA championship in the next three to four years, he will play football.

If you read this quote plainly, you may think he is joking or trying to get a laugh from the interviewer.

But watch the way that Edwards said what he said and it is pretty obvious that he meant what he said. Remember: Edwards has said that football was his first love (via ESPN):

He says if he were drafted by the NFL tomorrow, he’d let basketball go. “Because you can do anything on the field,” he explains. “You can spike the ball. You can dance. You can do all type of disrespectful stuff.” In the NBA, he says, “you can’t do any of that. You’ll get fined.”

Edwards was an excellent football player when he was growing up and he almost certainly still believes he could compete at the highest level.

While it is unclear if there is any chance this could actually happen, fans should believe that Edwards actually would want to make this dream into a reality.

This is not the first time Edwards has said he wants to become the first athlete to play in both the NBA and the NFL, and he is athletic enough to at least try if the Timberwolves can win a title.

Justin Jefferson had a historic day against the Lions in Week 7

With 81 yards receiving on Sunday, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson moved into 6th place on the team’s receiving yards list.

The Minnesota Vikings came up just short in their bid to beat the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and remain one of the league’s two undefeated teams. Despite jumping out to an early 10-0 lead on the Lions, the Vikings gave up three straight scoring drives to fall into a 21-10 hole before mounting a comeback of their own, but ultimately falling just short.

The loss is a tough one for the Vikings and their fans, but it didn’t come without some highlights. There was the continued dominance of edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel, a spectacular scoop-and-score fumble return by linebacker Ivan Pace, Jr., and a performance by wide receiver Justin Jefferson that saw him climb up the Vikings’ all-time receiving list in two categories.

Early in the third quarter, Jefferson came down with a highlight-reel grab to come down with his fifth touchdown of the season, prompting a “I’m like that!” statement from Jefferson before hitting his patented Griddy celebration.

That touchdown was Jefferson’s 35th of his career, breaking a tie with wide receiver Ahmad Rashad for the seventh-most receiving touchdowns in Minnesota Vikings’ history. But Jefferson’s historic day didn’t end there.

Jefferson ended the day with seven receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Those 81 yards were good enough to move Jefferson into 6th place all-time on the receiving yards list, passing Sammy White. With just four yards in Thursday’s Week 8 game against the Rams, Jefferson will pass another Vikings’ all-time great, Jake Reed, for fifth place on that list, leaving him behind only Adam Thielen, Anthony Carter, Randy Moss, and Cris Carter.

Jefferson’s 81 yards on Sunday gives him 6,430 yards in his career in just 66 games, giving Jefferson by far the most receiving yards per game (97.7) of any receiver in team history — among receivers with at least double-digit receptions, with Moss a distant second at 82.4.

Justin Jefferson grabs fourth-career TD against the Lions

Justin Jefferson continues to light up the Lions.

Minnesota found itself in a hole against the Lions. After going up 10-0, the Vikings went into halftime down 21-10. It’s a good thing the Vikings have a player like Justin Jefferson to help dig them out of that hole.

On Minnesota’s first possession from the break, Sam Darnold and Aaron Jones left the Vikings down the field. Jefferson hauled in a few passes before grabbing a 25-yard touchdown pass from Darnold to put the Vikings with four points.

It marked Jefferson’s fourth career touchdown reception against the Lions. Since entering the NFL, he has absolutely dominated their in-division rivals. On Sunday, through a little over two quarters of play, Jefferson has hauled in seven receptions for 81 yards and a score.

Darnold has played well for the most part against the Lions. He has completed 15-of-19 for 136 yards and a score. But that lone interception continues to loom as the Vikings find themselves trailing.

Justin Jefferson hit an effortless courtside griddy during WNBA Finals Game 3

Courtside Jettas is the best.

Justin Jefferson pulled up to Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals, and we love to see it.

Yes, Jettas was in the building to watch the Minnesota Lynx take on the New York Liberty. He regularly attends games, but on Wednesday, he joined the growing list of celebrities, like Jason Sudeikis, Spike Lee, and Jennifer Hudson, who want in on watching some of the WNBA’s best battle for a championship this postseason.

Of course, no appearance by Justin Jefferson is complete without his signature sunglasses, grill and chain, and, oh, yeah, a courtside giddy. Here’s Jettas pumping up the crowd during Wednesday night’s matchup. I gotta admit, doing the griddy while sitting down and still having it look so smooth is very impressive.

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson makes an appearance on “Snack Wars”

The Vikings were busy during their time in London last week when they were in town to face the New York Jets.

The Vikings were busy last week in London when they were in town to face the New York Jets. They handled their business by emerging from a tough matchup against a tough Jets team with a win, but they had more than just football to work on for some.

In the case of Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, he had a special media obligation to handle.

Jefferson took his All-Pro NFL talents to social media and YouTube as he appeared on the infamous Snack Wars. The video series is known for introducing American athletes and celebrities to British snacks and comparing them to American versions.

Jefferson has some fun in the video, but one reaction set a high bar to bear. They let Jefferson taste the infamous marmite and compared it to peanut butter and jelly.

Needless to say, this is worth watching for many reasons, but the reactions alone are worth the time.

Jets vs. Vikings: Justin Jefferson has landed in a ‘no fly zone’ with Sauce Gardner

Jets vs. Vikings: Justin Jefferson has landed in a ‘no fly zone’ with Sauce Gardner

Despite criticism, defensive back Sauce Gardner and the New York Jets defense still rank No. 2 in the NFL in opponent pass yards allowed per game.

Gardner understands that covering Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson won’t be an easy tasks, but that’s why defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich is likely to blitz and use multiple coverage scheme.

The physicality at the line of scrimmage will dictate this game and if the Vikings pass protection can’t hold, that means Gardner won’t be stuck in man coverage long.

While Gardner is an excellent defender, he’s an even better teammate, understanding his role in helping his unit yield coverage sacks with the assistance of defensive back D.J Reed.

Both Gardner and Reed’s excellence will be required for the Jets to win in London and everyone knows that starts with slowing down Jefferson.
