How Oregon transfers performed in Week 9 of college football

On Saturday, the Oregon Ducks took on the Utah Utes in Rice-Eccles Stadium for a top-15 matchup that turned out to be a lopsided affair. The Ducks came out firing on offense didn’t let up, and they remained unbeatable on defense, holding the Utes to just two field goals.

While Oregon was busy dominating in Salt Lake City and making a statement against a good Utah team, there were several former Ducks who were continuing their stellar careers elsewhere in the nation as well.

As usual, I’ll check in with each player who has transferred away from the Oregon football program in recent years to see if their Saturday was as successful as the Ducks’. It was an eventful week for the Oregon transfers. Cam McCormick saw some action, so did Dont’e Thornton, and there is a Trey Benson catch-and-run you’ll want to check out.

Former five-star linebacker Justin Flowe is a key player for Arizona vs USC

A former Oregon Duck will play for Arizona on Saturday and will try to stop USC.

Former five-star recruit and California native Justin Flowe will be a huge key for the Arizona Wildcats this week. The Cats are gunning for the upset on Saturday against the Trojans. Slowing down the USC Trojans and their high powered offense is a goal which relies on Flowe’s defensive production.

Flowe, a former Oregon Duck, has been coming along slowly but surely in the past few games for the Wildcats.

The Upland High School product was a consensus five-star prospect, a top-11 player in the nation, the No. 1 inside linebacker, and the top high school defensive player in the state California by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports.

Flowe was named the 2019 Butkus Award high school winner and the 2019-20 All-USA High School Football Defensive Player of the Year by USA TODAY.

This season, Flowe has 29 total tackles, half of a tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. His athleticism will be needed to contain Caleb Williams and the Trojan offense on Saturday. The Wildcats will try to use Flowe’s Pac-12 knowledge base and translate it into a strong defensive performance.

USC win over Colorado feels hollow because Alex Grinch isn’t doing his job.

Experts think Alex Grinch will prevent USC from making the Pac-12 Championship Game.

The coach who ripped Jordan Addison for transferring to USC is now staring at a humiliating season in Pittsburgh.

Top-rated recruit from every state for Oregon Ducks football since 2000

In recent years, the Ducks have expanded their recruiting reach, grabbing players from across the country. Here are their top recruits from each state.

The reach of the Oregon Ducks has been expanding over the past decade or so when it comes to the world of recruiting in college football. It used to be that the Ducks would take a majority of their players from the northwest, and occasionally pull some of the top talents from the state of California as well.

Over the past few years, though, that has changed. Now the Ducks have gone national, with a heavy push into the state of Texas, the Northeast, and the deep south, getting top-rated players from some of the deepest pools of high school football in the nation.

While Dan Lanning is the latest in a long line of coaches to preach that keeping the best players in the state at home is key to success, the fact that Oregon has made a push into states like Texas, Arizona, and Florida is part of the reason why the Ducks have found such great success in the recruiting world over the past decade.

We thought it would be a fun exercise to go back through the all-time 247Sports recruiting database and pick out the highest-ranked commit from each state since the year 2000 just to see what it would look like. We only go back that far because that’s when things started to really get measured in the high-stakes game of recruiting wars.

Here is a look at the best recruit from every state the Ducks have landed on campus to play football.

The 50 best photographs from Oregon Ducks’ 2022 football season

The Ducks had a great 2022 season. Let’s take a look back at some of the best photos from the year as a whole.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but it would certainly take more than that to describe the Oregon Ducks’ 2022 football season.

In Dan Lanning’s first year with the Ducks, the team saw a lot of highs and a couple of lows. We saw Oregon get into the mix for a spot in the College Football Playoff with a Heisman contending quarterback, but also watched as they suffered brutal defeats to the Washington Huskies and Oregon State Beavers.

In all, it was a successful season that set up what is likely to be a very exciting future. As we continue to look back on the 2022 season, we wanted to celebrate all of the best photos that were snapped of the team in action. Here are the best photos of the Ducks during the season.

Former 5-star Oregon linebacker Justin Flowe commits to Arizona

Justin Flowe was among the highest recruits to ever commit to Oregon. On Sunday night, he committed to the Arizona Wildcats.

Back in the day, the Arizona defense was hyped as the Desert Swarm.

If the Wildcats want to bring that back, they have to keep building up its defense and Arizona just added a piece that should help in a big way.

Former Oregon linebacker Justin Flowe committed to Arizona Sunday night.

When Flowe originally committed to the Ducks out of high school, he was the highest-rated recruit to do so. And after his season debut against Fresno State where he racked up 14 tackles and was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

After that, he suffered a leg injury and he was never the same. He missed the rest of the 2021 season and under the new coaching staff, Flowe didn’t find consistent playing time, and his game suffered for it.

Oregon had hoped Flowe would return and develop into the kind of player the Ducks thought he would be when he was recruited, but he decided to enter the transfer portal instead.

Shortly after Flowe departed, Oregon was able to replace him with Iowa transfer Jestin Jacobs.

Five players Texas should target in the transfer portal

These players could turn Texas into a contender next season.

The NCAA transfer portal continues to fill with talented players.

Almost 2,000 players from across the nation have entered the transfer portal as of Dec. 16. Navigating the wild territory of the portal is becoming a serious job for head coaches everywhere.

Texas finds itself in a much better position from a roster standpoint compared to this time last season. Between the strong core of production returning plus another top-five recruiting class on the way, Texas can afford to be more selective of players in the transfer portal.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are ideally looking for plug-and-play starters at a few positions of need. Longhorn transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers, cornerback Ryan Watts and linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey were critical contributors to the 2022 squad.

Here are five players in the transfer portal Texas should target this go around.

Report: Former Oregon LB Justin Flowe to visit Arizona Wildcats

Justin Flowe is reportedly taking a visit to Arizona this weekend after entering the transfer portal.

It looks like former Oregon Ducks’ linebacker Justin Flowe might be looking to stay out west after entering the transfer portal last week.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Greg Biggins, Flowe and his younger brother, Jonathan, who also entered the portal last week and is expected to leave the Ducks, will be taking a visit to the Arizona Wildcats this weekend where they are expected to ultimately sign.

Biggins recently logged a Crystal Ball prediction for the Flowe brothers to end up with the Wildcats, as the two reportedly want to play together on the same team, and will likely be a package deal.

Former Iowa LB Jestin Jacobs commits to Oregon

Oregon bolstered its linebacking corps for 2023 with the transfer of Jestin Jacobs from Iowa.

With Justin Flowe leaving and the distinct possibility of Noah Sewell moving on to the NFL, the Oregon Ducks football team of 2023 could be a bit light on linebackers.

But the depth chart just gained one for next season as former Iowa Hawkeye Jestin Jacobs has announced he will be an Oregon Duck for his senior season.

Jacobs played in all 14 games last season and started eight. But he suffered a season-ending injury at Rutgers in Week 3. It was an undisclosed injury that did need surgery.

Iowa expected Jacobs to return to Iowa City for 2023 before he announced via Twitter on Dec. 6 that would be entering the portal. Just a few days later, he’s an Oregon Duck.

5 positions the Oklahoma Sooners should target in the transfer portal

The Oklahoma Sooners have some roster reconfiguration to accomplish and will look at the transfer portal to complete it. From @thatmanbryant

Oklahoma’s season is down to one last game against the Florida State Seminoles in the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando, Florida. However, their preparation for Team 129 has already begun.

Numerous players have already entered the transfer portal or declared for the 2023 NFL draft.

Players like left tackle [autotag]Anton Harrison[/autotag], running back [autotag]Eric Gray[/autotag], defensive tackle [autotag]Jalen Redmond[/autotag], and right tackle [autotag]Wanya Morris[/autotag] were starters on this year’s squad and have already declared their intention to go to the NFL. Oklahoma will have to fill those voids for next season. Their replacements may be on the team already, but there’s a real possibility they aren’t.

The losses have left a hefty amount of bodies missing from the program right now, and while the recruiting class will fill some of them, the Sooners would love to have immediate answers via the transfer portal by guys with collegiate experience.

As Oklahoma looks to retool its roster for 2023, here are a few positions they should look to add talent to via the transfer portal.

Lanning: Ducks will look to ‘enhance our program in every facet’ via transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks will be big time players in the NCAA transfer portal after adding Bo Nix, Christian Gonzalez, and others last season.

December 5 not only kicks off the tenure of new Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Will Stein, it also marks the beginning of the transfer portal window for college football.

The NCAA transfer portal has transformed college football in a significant way, with players having far more freedom and autonomy to look for new opportunities each and every season, and allows teams to build almost entirely new rosters each year.

For the Ducks, it helped secure an incredible season from Auburn transfer Bo Nix, while running backs Noah Whittington and Bucky Irving were major contributors on offense and Christian Gonzalez was a star on defense.

Coach Dan Lanning made it clear during a press conference on Sunday evening that his team will once again look hard at players in the portal this offseason – and no position is off limits for additions.

“We’re going to look to enhance our program in every facet, every opportunity that we get to make our program better,” Lanning said. “The goal is to find good people that fit the characteristics that we’re looking for in our program, regardless of just position, you know, and certainly you’ll look for some positions specific pieces, but I’m not going to limit our search to just a couple positions. We’re going to look for guys that make our product better and that fit our culture as we move forward.”

Oregon already saw Gonzalez depart for the NFL while linebacker Justin Flowe tossed his name in the portal, so it would not be a shock to see Lanning and his staff prioritize impact upgrades on the defensive side of the ball.

Of course, the future of Bo Nix is a huge storyline for Oregon this offseason as well, and could result in another high profile quarterback addition if Nix decides to move on.

Updates on transfer additions, and subtractions, will be available all winter at Ducks Wire:
