Sights and sounds from the first padded Browns practice of camp

For the first time this summer, the Browns put their shoulder pads during training camp. Take a look:

The preparation for the 2023 season continues to ramp up as the Browns wore pads for the first time during Friday’s training camp practice.

They weren’t going full speed and hitting, which they will do for the first time during Saturday’s camp practice. Wide receiver Amari Cooper returned to the field after missing the past few practices with a minor injury.

Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson spoke during a media availability after practice and raved about defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo and how he has flown under the radar since the Za’Darius Smith trade took place.

Let’s take a look at some of the sound bites and clips from Friday’s padded practice:

Browns: All 3 top safeties receive the same Madden 24 rating

78s across the board for the three Browns safeties

Dropping their first two positions of ratings today, Madden 24 has begun its annual tradition. We have already covered the wide receiver ratings for the Cleveland Browns, but they also dropped their safety ratings as well. For the Browns, all three of their top safeties in Grant Delpit, Juan Thornhill, and Rodney McLeod were all given identical ratings.

The Browns also had two more safeties rated in Bubba Bolden and D’Anthony Bell. Here are the ratings for the safeties currently on the roster for the Browns.

The ratings for undrafted free agent safeties Ronnie Hickman and Tanner McAlister are not available at this time.

WATCH: Juan Thornhill brings energy and experience to Cleveland

The new safety is excited for the 2023 season

Since signing with the Cleveland Browns this offseason Juan Thornhill has been vocal about his excitement to play for the brown and orange this season. He began attempting to recruit former teammates and possible free agents to come to Cleveland right away.

He has taken to social media to talk about how he doesn’t care about the franchise’s past when 2023 is all that matters. In this week’s episode of Unleash on the Cleveland Browns YouTube channel, Thornhill was the main star. He talked about what he brings to the table as a player, his NFL journey, and his excitement for this NFL season.

LOOK: Juan Thornhill flashes new jewelry at Chiefs’ ring ceremony

Juan Thornhill put together quite the fit as he collected his second Super Bowl ring

The Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their Super Bowl win at their ring ceremony this week. As part of the celebration, the team did a red carpet rollout where all of the players wore their best attire. And for new Cleveland Browns safety Juan Thornhill, that meant busting out a custom-made suit.

It does not hurt to get the ring along with it as the Chiefs add another piece of jewelry to their collection. After winning two Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs, the Browns are now hoping Thornhill brings that championship mentality to Cleveland.

WATCH: Juan Thornhill and Marquise Goodwin developing trash talk rivalry

The Browns are breeding competition, and it is being brought to life by safety Juan Thornhill and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

The Cleveland Browns sought to breed competition on their roster, adding depth to the bottom of every room on the roster to allow players to fight it out for roster spots. It turns out this has fueled competition on the field as well between the offense and defense. And it is being led by two of the newest members of the Browns in the form of safety Juan Thornhill and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

WEWS’s Camryn Justice covers the brewing rivalry between Thornhill and Goodwin. Take a look as the two seek to continue to breed a sense of camaraderie through competition as the Browns head into training camp next month.

Juan Thornhill takes issue with PFF’s top 32 safety list

Thornhill believes he belongs among the top 32 safeties in the NFL.

PFF has released their list ranking the top 32 safeties in the NFL but seems to have left one off the list that deserved to be on it. New Cleveland Browns safety Juan Thornhill was left off the list and he took to social media to voice his disagreement with being left off it.

I agree with Thornhill being displeased as he belongs among the top 32 players in his position. Thornhill is one of the better deep coverage safeties with a high football IQ that provides security in the back end of the defense.

Last year Thornhill allowed just four touchdowns in coverage and less than 100 yards after catch all year. Though he might not be the best safety in the league Thornhill does deserve more respect. Thornhill finished with five pass breakups and three interceptions in 2022.

Juan Thornhill’s response to NBA doppelganger is pure gold

#Browns safety Juan Thornhill took to Twitter to tell fans to stop pointing out that he looks like Denver Nuggets star Bruce Brown

The Cleveland Browns’ addition of Juan Thornhill in free agency was an underrated move early in the offseason, but with his doppelganger playing in the ongoing NBA Finals, the veteran safety is getting attention for the striking similarities he shares with Denver Nuggets star Bruce Brown.

Thornhill took to Twitter on Sunday night to ask fans to stop pointing out that he looks like Brown, and the Browns’ official account responded to comedic effect.

Though they may look similar in the face, Brown has about a four-inch height advantage on Thornhill, but the resemblance is undeniable. The team would go on to post the safety’s high school highlight reel from his days playing basketball at Altavista in Virginia, where he excelled as one of the Colonel’s best players.

With hops like that, theories surrounding Thornhill and Brown are sure to take flight as the Nuggets compete for their first NBA Championship in franchise history and the Browns (conveniently, for the conspiratorially-minded) head into their slowest point of the offseason.

Browns: It’s good vibes only from new safety Juan Thornhill

Nothing but positivity from Thornhill.

The Cleveland Browns opted to swap out John Johnson III for Juan Thornhill this offseason at the third level of their defense. And since joining the Northeast Ohio community, Thornhill has done nothing but immerse himself in all things Cleveland. He even threw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians game earlier this week.

He has also been vocal on social media about the need to squash the negativity surrounding the team, and he was even asked about it again today after Day 2 of OTAs. Here is Thornhill’s response, thanks to a video from Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot:

WATCH: Juan Thornhill throws ceremonial first pitch at Guardians game

The new Browns safety threw a heater.

Since signing with the Cleveland Browns, safety Juan Thornhill has been vocal about his desire to be a key member of the community. He is outspoken on social media, carries an infectious personality and is looking to make significant contributions at the third level of the Cleveland defense. Continuing his tour of immersing himself in the culture of Northeast Ohio, Thornhill threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians game.

With OTAs starting today, the Browns are back in town, and Thornhill continues to make himself an early fan favorite.
