Tennessee Titans’ practice squad protections for Week 17

The Titans are protecting four practice squad players ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Dolphins.

The Tennessee Titans have chosen the four practice squad players they are going to protect ahead of the Week 17 game against the Miami Dolphins.

According to the league’s transactions wire, the Titans are protecting wide receiver Mason Kinsey, quarterback Kevin Hogan, center Daniel Munyer, and running back Jordan Wilkins.

The Titans might have to dip into their practice squad for Sunday’s game versus the Dolphins, as a total of 11 players are on the COVID-19 list.

Eight of those players are on the active roster and include wide receivers Julio Jones and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, right guard Nate Davis, defensive lineman Denico Autry, outside linebacker Bud Dupree, linebacker Jayon Brown, backup tackle Kendall Lamm, and cornerback Buster Skrine.

The good news for Tennessee is that all eight of those players could still play in Week 17 after the NFL and NFLPA agreed to modified COVID-19 protocols that will allow players who test positive to return after five days.

The Titans and Dolphins will meet on Sunday at Nissan Stadium, with kickoff set for noon CST.

Titans add RB Jordan Wilkins to practice squad among 4 moves

The Titans made a total of four moves on their practice squad on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans made a grand total of four moves on their practice squad on Wednesday, including adding former Indianapolis Colts running back, Jordan Wilkins.

A fifth-round pick of the Colts in 2018, Wilkins spent the first three-plus years of his career in Indy before being waived in late October. He saw just one offensive snap in 2021 and played almost exclusively on special teams.

In the three seasons prior, the Memphis, Tennessee native carried the ball 195 times for 951 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and four scores, while also adding 35 receptions for 233 yards.

With Derrick Henry on the shelf, the Titans could use all the help they can get at the position. D’Onta Foreman and Dontrell Hilliard have performed well, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to add a tough runner like Wilkins as an insurance policy.

In addition to that move, the Titans added defensive back Rodney Clemons to the practice squad, while also waiving running back Rodney Smith and placing safety Jamal Carter on practice squad IR.

Jags sign former Colts RB Jordan Wilkins to practice squad

The Jags have added some help to the practice squad at the RB position and it’s a player they know well from the AFC South.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took a blow on offense Week 8 when their offense witnessed running back James Robinson sustain a heel injury after being ran out of bounds. He didn’t return for the game and also missed the Jags’ most recent game against the Buffalo Bills, so the team’s depth at running back is being tested currently.

With Robinson out, the Jags have turned to a player who they know from within their own division. That player is Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Wilkins, who according to Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus, had a great workout for the team. Then, later in the day, the team announced his signing to the practice squad.

Wilkins, who was waived by Indy on Oct. 30, was drafted by the Colts in 2018 in the fifth-round (No. 169th overall) out of Ole Miss. Since, he’s registered three starts and has participated in 49 games for them while totaling 195 rushing attempts for 951 yards and four touchdowns (good for a 4.6 YPC average). He’s also hauled in 35 career receptions for 233 yards.

With the addition of Wilkins, the team waived practice squad running back Kerrith Whyte Jr., making Wilkins and Nathan Cottrell the Jags’ two options if a running back is injured on the active roster.

Report: Jaguars to sign former Colts RB Jordan Wilkins to practice squad

The Jaguars are reportedly signing former Colts RB Jordan Wilkins to their practice squad.

Former Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Wilkins had a work out with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is expected to sign to their practice squad, per Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus.

It’s probably more coincidence than anything that the Jaguars are signing Wilkins during the week that the two teams are set to play in Week 10. Regardless, Wilkins seems to have a new home after being waived by the Colts two weeks ago.

A fifth-round pick in 2018, Wilkins was a solid depth player for the Colts during his time in Indy. In 49 career games (four starts), Wilkins took 195 carries for 951 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns while adding 35 receptions for 233 receiving yards.

The Colts have moved forward with Jonathan Taylor turning into arguably the best running back in the league and being complemented with the versatile Nyheim Hines.

Wilkins will be joining a backfield that consists of James Robinson and Carlos Hyde in Jacksonville.

Colts activate Dayo Odeyingbo among several roster moves

The Colts made several moves on Saturday, including the activation of DL Dayo Odeyingbo.

The Indianapolis Colts announced several roster moves on Saturday ahead of the Week 8 matchup with the Tennessee Titans.

The moves include the activation of a highly-anticipated rookie pass rusher and the waiving of a depth running back.

Here’s a look at the roster moves that were made on Saturday:

Colts rule out 4 players vs. 49ers in Week 7

The Colts ruled out four players ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the 49ers.

The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out four players ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

The players that have been ruled out include right tackle Braden Smith (foot), defensive end Kemoko Turay (groin), cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (ankle) and running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness).

Head coach Frank Reich told the media following practice that wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (quad) is listed as questionable but unlikely to play after failing to log any type of practice this week. He told reporters Thursday that he’s “50-50” to play this week even though it appears he’s more doubtful than questionable.

While Smith was ruled out, there were some positive signs that he’s heading in the right direction. The starting right tackle logged his first practice on Friday since injuring his foot in Week 1. He’s not ready to return yet, but this is at least a positive development.

The Colts will release their final injury report with designations later on Friday, which should give a better idea of the entire injury situation entering the weekend.

Colts rule out 5 players vs. Texans in Week 6

The Colts ruled out 5 players for the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-4) ruled out five players on Friday ahead of the Week 6 matchup with the Houston Texans (1-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The five players ruled out include right tackle Braden Smith (foot), defensive end Kemoko Turay (groin), safety Andrew Sendejo (concussion), kicker Rodrigo Blankenship (hip) and running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness).

None of these players were able to log a practice in any capacity this week so it isn’t all that surprising that they have been ruled out.

The biggest name here is Smith, who continues to progress slowly from a foot injury he suffered in Week 1. Smith has yet to practice since initially suffering other injury.

The final injury report will be released later on Friday with the remaining designations.

Colts’ roster bubble: Each position’s biggest potential cut

Here is the biggest name at each position on the roster bubble for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts are now under three weeks away from their return to training camp at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield.

With the much-needed return of training camp also comes the roster debates as numerous players are vying for the limited spots on the Colts roster. With so many positions already having foundational pieces, there is going to be some intense competition for roles and spots on the roster.

So we are going to take a look at the biggest potential roster cut at each position. Essentially, which players with the biggest name are on the bubble? Some of these may be a surprise while others not so much. For some, it may not matter whether they make it or not. But we’re here to break it down anyway.

Here’s the biggest potential roster cut at each position by the time training camp is over:

Should the Colts consider trading RB Jordan Wilkins?

Should the Colts consider trading RB Jordan Wilkins?

The Indianapolis Colts are not a team to shy away from making a trade just before the regular season starts and with a crowded backfield, it’s not totally impossible for running back Jordan Wilkins to be on the block.

The odds would likely state that Wilkins won’t get traded as the Colts love what he brings to the backfield for depth purposes, and Chris Ballard even said in the early offseason he can envision a four-man backfield with Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, Marlon Mack and the aforementioned Wilkins.

But we’ve seen Ballard make moves before if it benefits the team. Wilkins is in the final year of his rookie deal, and there don’t seem to be any plans to re-sign him, especially with so many extensions coming up.

With Taylor leading the way in the backfield, Hines reprising his role as the change-of-pace back and Mack expected to be ready for training camp, it’s going to be hard for Wilkins to carve out a role in this offense.

The Colts also seem to be intrigued by undrafted rookie Deon Jackson, who received a large signing bonus from the team following 2021 draft. Jackson brings a more explosive skill set even though he may be a bit further behind in his development.

That said, if the Colts like what they see from Jackson in training camp enough to consider a move, it wouldn’t be an outlandish scenario.

No one would blame Ballard if he wanted to get something in return for Wilkins, especially with teams like the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons needing some help in the backfield.

Wilkins has been a nice depth piece for the Colts since he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft so it also wouldn’t be a surprise if Ballard wanted to keep the backfield as the deepest part of the roster.

During his first two seasons in the NFL, Wilkins averaged 5.6 and 6.0 yards per carry, respectively. That dropped to 3.7 in 2020, but he’s shown the ability to have productive games in a limited role.

The odds are that Wilkins stays put to provide depth in one of the best backfields in the NFL, but it would make sense for the Colts to see what they can get for the 26-year-old.
