37 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 37 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 37 jersey number

In 37 days, the New England Patriots will host the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in their 2023 regular season opener. So we’re continuing our countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 37 jersey.

The last player to wear the number in New England was former Patriots running back Damien Harris, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills.

Harris was a powerful runner on the field and an even better leader off it. The former Alabama standout led by example and paved the way for young players like Rhamondre Stevenson to carry the franchise into the future.

Yet, the player most Patriots fans immediately think of when looking back on the No. 37 is New England Patriots Hall of Famer Rodney Harrison. The former three-time All-Pro defensive back played a key role in two of the franchise’s six Super Bowl victories.

He was without question one of the greatest defensive players in franchise history. That alone gives the No. 37 significant value in New England.

39 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 39 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 39 jersey number

The New England Patriots have officially reached the 39-day mark in our countdown series to their 2023 regular season opener. Today, we’re listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 39 jersey.

Fan-favorite running back Danny Woodhead is a name that many Patriots fans remember. The former undrafted free agent came to New England from the New York Jets and served as a reliable third-down option for quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots offense.

He was just one of those special players that fit into the offense perfectly and consistently found ways to make plays.

However, one of the true forgotten Patriots on this list is former Los Angeles Rams All-Pro running back Steven Jackson. He made a pit stop in New England at the tail-end of his career and appeared in two games for the Patriots. It was an unlikely pairing that barely lasted a month.

Of course, Woodhead and Jackson weren’t the only ones to wear the number. Let’s take a look at every player throughout Patriots’ franchise history that has ever worn a No. 39 jersey (via Pro Football Reference).

Ravens protect four players on practice squad ahead of Week 12

The Ravens protected four players on their practice squad ahead of their Week 12 matchup with the Browns

The Baltimore Ravens have gotten contributions from players on their practice squad all season long. With how many injuries the team has had to go through, they’ve needed all of their players to step up in a big way, and so far they’ve found guys who are stepping in for injured stars at a good level.

On Wednesday, Baltimore protected four players on their practice squad ahead of their Week 12 divisional matchup with the Cleveland Browns in offensive tackle David Sharpe, inside linebacker Joe Thomas, cornerback Kevon Seymour and safety Jordan Richards.

Sharpe could act as offensive tackle depth if called up, while Thomas would help at the inside linebacker position. Both Seymour and Richards could have opportunities to play with a very depleted Ravens secondary, depending on if they get called up or not and how many cornerbacks miss Sunday night’s game.

Ravens make series of roster moves on Monday

The Ravens made a series of roster moves ahead of their Week 10 game with the Dolphins

The Baltimore Ravens are no strangers to making roster moves, especially in 2021. After the team has seen player after player go down with injury, it’s a very common occurrence to see the team announce moves in the days after a game.

On Monday, Baltimore made a flurry of roster moves that included the activation of tight end Nick Boyle from injured reserve and the placement of safety DeShon Elliott on injured reserve. The Ravens also designated guard Ben Cleveland for a return to practice, while signing safety Jordan Richards to the practice squad.

It’s a great sign for both Boyle’s availability in regards to Baltimore’s Week 10 matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that he thinks Boyle will be ready for Thursday, but he’ll have to see.

Elliott goes on injured reserve after tearing both his pec and his bicep, and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 season. Richards is back with the team after multiple stints on both the active roster and practice squad, while Cleveland is now eligible to practice and has 21 days to be activated from injured reserve.

Ravens protect four players on practice squad ahead of Week 6

The Ravens protected four players on their practice squad ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens will be taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 of the 2021 season. Both teams are coming off of incredible Week 5 wins, with Baltimore completing a comeback against the Indianapolis Colts while Los Angeles picked up a crazy victory over the Cleveland Browns.

On Thursday, the Ravens protected four players from their practice squad ahead of their Sunday game with the Chargers in running back Nate McCrary, offensive tackle David Sharpe, cornerback Kevon Seymour and safety Jordan Richards.

McCrary signed with the Ravens’ practice squad after being claimed off of waivers by the Denver Broncos during the final cut down process. Sharpe was a practice squad protection last week as well, and could provide some depth in the event that one or both of Ronnie Stanley and Alejandro Villanueva can’t go on Sunday.

Seymour has been elevated from the practice squad before and has been cornerback depth for a team that is thin at the position. Richards was called up from the practice squad last week and is regarded as a core special teams player.

Ravens activate WR Miles Boykin from IR, elevate two players from practice squad for Week 5

The Ravens activated wide receiver Miles Boykin from injured reserve and elevated two players from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 5

The Baltimore Ravens will be facing off against the Indianapolis Colts in a Monday Night Football matchup. The game will mark Baltimore’s third primetime game in their first five contests to kick off the 2021 season, as they’ve been getting under the bright lights early and often so far.

Before the game, the Ravens activated wide receiver Miles Boykin off of injured reserve while also elevating two players from their practice squad to the active roster for Week 5 in veteran offensive tackle Andre Smith and veteran defensive back Jordan Richards.

Boykin is the best blocking wide receiver on the team and will give Baltimore another weapon for quarterback Lamar Jackson to throw to. The wideout and the quarterback have had trouble getting on the same page at times, but hopefully the third-year player can take a leap this season.

Smith has been called up to the active roster multiple times, and will provide tackle depth in the event that Alejandro Villanueva can’t play or one of the starting tackles were to get injured if Villanueva can suit up.

Richards will give the Ravens an experienced veteran who could have a bigger role in the event that one or both of safeties DeShon Elliott or Geno stone can’t play due to the injuries that they’re dealing with.

Ravens sign two players to practice squad

The Ravens signed two familiar faces to their practice squad on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens have been shuffling their roster due to how many injuries they’ve gone through so far during the first few weeks of the 2021 season. They’ve added plenty of new faces that have contributed in a big way, but there have also been a few familiar ones that have returned to the team.

On Tuesday, Baltimore announced that they signed two players to their practice squad who were with the team during 2021 training camp in running back Nate McCrary and defensive back Jordan Richards. Both were let go during cut down day, but have now found their way back to the Ravens.

McCrary returns to Baltimore after being claimed by the Denver Broncos on waivers after the Ravens released him during final cuts. He was inactive for Denver’s first two games before being cut by the Broncos. He will give Baltimore even more running back depth after they lost J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill to season-ending injuries.

Richards was also let go during final cuts, but re-signed to the Ravens’ practice squad shortly after. However, he was released just a few days after being added back to the practice squad in a corresponding move to Baltimore signing Le’Veon Bell. Richards has spent time with the Ravens since 2019.

Ravens announce five roster moves including signing of RB Trenton Cannon

The Baltimore Ravens announced five roster moves on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens have been shuffling around their final roster and practice squad for the past few days. Even after Baltimore trimmed their team to 53 players there was still work to do, and now have compiled not only a very solid roster, but a great practice squad as well.

Despite adding, subtracting and moving players around, the Ravens now look to be close to having their final Week 1 roster. On Wednesday, Baltimore made five different roster moves. They officially announced signing of running back Le’Veon Bell as well as defensive tackle Reginald McKenzie (who also goes by Kahlil) to the practice squad.

The team also announced that they signed running back Trenton Cannon to their active roster.

Baltimore also officially placed running back Justice Hill on injured reserve and released veteran safety Jordan Richards from their practice squad.

Bell is the most accomplished of the group, putting up almost 10,000 total yards and adding 48 total touchdowns over the course of his career. He can be a threat as a pass catcher, and fills a role for Baltimore.

McKenzie is the son of NFL executive Reggie McKenzie. He has bounced around after being a sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and last spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cannon has just a 3.0 yards per carry average on 48 career rushing attempts at the NFL level since entering the league in 2018. However, he has blazing speed and is regarded as a great special teams player, particularly as a gunner.

Hill was entering his third season with the Ravens after being a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He was expected to have an expanded role in 2021 and will also be missed on special teams. Cannon will look to replace Hill as a gunner.

Richards had been with the Baltimore ever since the middle of the 2019 season. He was let go during 2021 cut down day, but brought back to the practice squad a short time later. However, with the addition of Bell, the Ravens had to release on of their veterans from the practice squad and Richards was the odd man out.

Ravens officially announce 13 practice squad signings

The Ravens officially announced 13 practice squad signings

The Baltimore Ravens have always been able to find talent to keep on their practice squad. Whether those players are young guys or veterans, they do a good job of keeping balanced depth who can step up if called up to the active roster when needed, whether that’s on game day or permanently.

On Wednesday afternoon Baltimore officially announced 13 practice squad signings, which included many familiar faces such as quarterback Trace McSorley, defensive tackle Justin Ellis, defensive back Anthony Levine Sr., and defensive back Jordan Richards. They were also able to retain multiple young talents including wide receiver Binjimen Victor and offensive tackle Adrian Ealy.

With the Ravens announcing only 13 practice squad players so far, there are still three more spots available to be taken. Baltimore does not have a running back on their practice squad yet, and with the injury to J.K. Dobbins, it feels like an addition there could be imminent. Rookie FB/TE Ben Mason also didn’t appear on the initial list, and it feels like he could be an option to return to the team as well.

Ravens make four roster moves to get down to 81 players

The Ravens made four moves to get their roster down to 81 players

The Baltimore Ravens have to get their roster down to 80 players by Tuesday, August 24th at 4pm EST. On Monday, they took steps towards doing that, releasing three players while placing another on injured reserve.

The move to place Fort on injured reserve was expected, as after Monday’s practice head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that the linebacker tore his ACL in Baltimore’s 20-3 preseason win over the Panthers. His loss is a big one for the Ravens’ defensive and special teams units.

Dereus was brought in while Baltimore was dealing with a plethora of injuries at the wide receiver position. While many wideouts still haven’t returned to practice, some appear close, so Dereus was let go after failing to appear on the box score during either of the Ravens’ 2021 preseason victories.

Richards was added in the middle of the 2019 season, and played a key role on special teams over his two years in Baltimore. However, with so many young defensive backs emerging, there just wasn’t enough room to keep Richards around.

Smith was signed by the Ravens before their playoff game against the Tennessee Titans during the 2019-2020 season. He then opted out of the 2020 season, and was on the roster bubble entering 2021 training camp. After getting and extended look at him during the preseason, Baltimore decided to move on from the former top-10 pick.

The Ravens will still have to make one more move before Tuesday’s deadline to get their roster down to the required 80 players.
