Texans promote 2 from practice squad to active roster versus the Jaguars

The Houston Texans have promoted ILB Nate Hall and S Jonathan Owens from the practice squad to the active roster versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Houston Texans announced the promotion of two players from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of their Week 5 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Texans promoted inside linebacker Nate Hall to the active roster along with safety Jonathan Owens.

Houston has some injury issues at inside linebacker. Dylan Cole worked through a knee issue throughout the week, was a full participant in Friday’s practice, and received no designation. However, Pro Bowler Benardrick McKinney was limited in practice all week with a shoulder injury and given a questionable designation. Peter Kalambayi, who also was given the questionable designation, has yet to play in a game this season due to a hamstring injury.

The Texans could be anticipating more defensive snaps from Cole, who is a special teams ace. If so, having Owens and Hall fill that void in the transition phase of the game could be what Houston is going for.

Simone Biles goes Instagram official with Houston Texans safety Jonathan Owens

They’re IG official now.

Simone Biles and her new boyfriend, Houston Texans safety Jonathan Owens, have now gone public with their relationship on Instagram.

The 23-year-old Olympic gold medalist had been linked to Owens over the past couple weeks. She had been in a relationship with follow gymnast Stacey Ervin Jr. for three years, but they publicly announced the breakup back in July.

On Sunday, Biles went public and shared a photo of the couple together on Instagram. She wrote as a caption, “It’s just us.” Owens — an undrafted free agent Missouri Western State — spent time on the Texans’ practice squad last season before signing another contract with the team in January.

7 player connections to Cardinals in Bills-Texans wild-card game

See who used to play for the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals did not make it to the postseason but Arizona Cardinals fans can see a few former Cardinals players in the playoffs. The first playoff game of the weekend is between Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans. Between the two teams, there are seven former Cardinals.

Let’s check out who they are.

Bills LB Lorenzo Alexander

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Alexander spent two seasons with the Cardinals in 2013-2014. He became a pretty good pass rusher when he got to Buffalo. He had 50 tackles and two sacks in 2019.

Texans add DE Joel Heath, WR Steven Mitchell to active roster

The Houston Texans brought back familiar faces in DE Joel Heath and WR Steven Mitchell.

The Houston Texans announced four transactions on Saturday, including the addition of two former players to the active roster.

Houston signed defensive end Joel Health to the active roster and also signed receiver Steven Mitchell.

Heath was let go prior to the club’s Week 12 Thursday night 20-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts to make room for tight end Jordan Thomas, who was coming off injured reserve.

With linebacker Dylan Cole sustaining a torn ACL in the victory that moved Houston to 7-4 on the season, a spot opened up on the 53-man roster, and Heath will fill it.

To make room for Mitchell, the Texans waived safety Jonathan Owens, a second-year player from Missouri Western State. With the Texans having a mini-bye and not back in action until Dec. 1, there should be enough time for safeties Justin Reid and Mike Adams to clear concussion protocol and shore up the thin safety spots.
