2026 4-star QB Jonas Williams announces college commitment

Oregon Ducks quarterback target Jonas Williams announced his college commitment.

The Oregon Ducks started out Saturday on a high note on the recruiting trail.

4-star 2026 quarterback Jonas Williams officially announced his verbal commitment to the Ducks, giving Oregon their early QB commitment that is so coveted in the world of recruiting.

Later in the day, Oregon is also expected to land 5-star S Trey McNutt in the class of 2025, who announces his commitment at noon PT.

Williams ranks as the No. 8 QB in the 2026 class, and the No. 98 overall player. He chose Oregon over the likes of LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama.

Williams was at Oregon’s Saturday Night Live camp last weekend, and he left as one of the most impressive passers of the bunch, showing great accuracy and zip on his throws.

He is now the third member of the Ducks’ 2026 class, joining 4-star RB Tradarian Ball and 4-star DL Tony Cumberland. The class ranks as the fifth-best in the 2026 cycle.

Oregon Ducks 4-star QB target Jonas Williams sets commitment date

The Oregon Ducks are among the favorites to land 4-star 2026 QB Jonas Williams when he announces his commitment this weekend.

Just a few days ago, I left the Oregon Ducks annual Saturday Night Live camp at Autzen Stadium writing about how 2026 4-star quarterback Jonas Williams was among the most impressive passers there, firing balls around the field and showing great accuracy.

Now, just a few days later, the Ducks are learning that he is getting set to make his commitment soon, with Oregon now believed to be the favorite to land him.

Williams announced on Tuesday that he would be making his verbal commitment on August 3. Not long after this announcement came, 247Sports analyst Tom Loy logged a Crystal Ball prediction for the Ducks to land the 4-star QB who is rated as the No. 97 overall player in the 2026 class, and the No. 8 QB.

Should Williams end up in Eugene, he would be the third member of the 2026 class, joining 4-star RB Tradarian Ball and 4-star DL Tony Cumberland.

Williams is down to a final four schools of Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU.

Class of 2026 four-star quarterback Jonas Williams has Oregon in his Top 4

Class of ’26 four-star quarterback Jonas Williams out of Illinois has Oregon in his Top 4 schools.

The days of the short-term solution at quarterback for the Oregon Ducks football program might be over.

Dan Lanning already has Austin Novosad, Luke Moga and although he’s a transfer, sophomore Dante Moore has just played a half of a season for UCLA and is expected to possibly redshirt in 2024 if he’s not needed.

Oregon also has a commitment from Akili Smith, Jr. from the Class of 2025, but the search for the next great Duck quarterback continues.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On.3.com, the Ducks made the Top 4 from four-star Jonas Williams out of the Class of 2026.  He’s 6-foot-3, 2025 pounds and from Frankfort Heights, Illinois.

All of the usuals want the services of Williams and he’s selected Oregon, Alabama, LSU and Ohio State to be in his Top 4. An announcement date hasn’t been picked, but many think it will come sometime soon.

LSU a finalist for top 10 2026 QB Jonas Williams

The Tigers are trying to find their signal-caller for the 2026 cycle.

LSU already has the No. 1 quarterback (and top overall player) in the 2025 class committed in [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag]. Now, it’s turning its attention to landing its signal-caller for the 2026 cycle.

The Tigers have already missed on a few targets, but one they remain in the mix for is [autotag]Jonas Williams[/autotag], a four-star prospect from Frankfort Heights, Illinois. Williams trimmed his list to four schools on Thursday, and LSU made the cut alongside Ohio State, Alabama and Oregon.

The 6-foot-1.5, 200-pound quarterback ranks as the No. 88 player nationally and the No. 8 passer. He said that LSU’s track record for developing quarterbacks in recent years is why he’s so strongly considering it.

“LSU develops quarterbacks,” Williams said, per On3. It is a top-tier school where I would be around great players every day. If I went to LSU, I would be challenged. I like the staff, how they are hard on players and LSU puts you in that environment that would be great for me to develop in.”

The Buckeyes are currently considered the slim team to beat according to On3, but it seems like a wide-open race for Williams. According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, he has also set an upcoming unofficial visit to Baton Rouge.

He received an offer after his previous unofficial visit in April.

2026 4-star QB Jonas Williams lists Alabama in top 4

On Thursday, 2026 four-star quarterback Jonas Williams listed Alabama as a finalist to land his commitment.

The Alabama Crimson Tide is one of four finalists in the mix to receive a commitment from 2026 four-star quarterback Jonas Williams. The Illinois native released his top schools list on Thursday. The other schools that made the cut were the Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, and Oregon Ducks.

Williams received an offer from the Crimson Tide in June. It is unclear if Williams will visit Tuscaloosa before announcing his commitment. The other three finalists have been recruiting Williams for a couple more months. The only finalist that he has taken an unofficial visit to is Ohio State.

The product of Lincoln-Way East High School is one of the more prolific passers in the country in the 2026 recruiting class. As a sophomore, he threw for 3,196 yards and 33 touchdowns at Bolingbrook High School. Following the conlusion of the season, he transferred to Lincoln-Way East.

Alabama has their eyes set on 2026 quarterback Faizon Brandon. The No. 1 player in the recruiting class has taken multiple visits to Alabama and is expected to announce his commitment in early August. If Alabama misses on Brandon, they could set their sights on Williams.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program and its efforts on the recruiting trail.

4-star QB in 2026 puts Oregon Ducks among top teams

The Oregon Ducks have landed among the top schools for 4-star 2026 QB Jonas Williams.

The Oregon Ducks are looking to carry this current recruiting momentum with them into the future, and it appears to be working early on.

While the 2026 class still seems far away, the Ducks are in a great position to land one of the top quarterbacks available in 4-star QB Jonas Williams.

Williams recently announced his top four schools, putting Oregon alongside LSU, Alabama, and Ohio State. Williams is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 8 QB in the 2026 class, and the No. 89 overall player.

He stands at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, and is rated as the No. 1 overall player from the state of Illinois.

The Ducks currently have one quarterback commitment in the class of 2025 in Akili Smith Jr., and there is a chance that they could try to add another one if they are able to successfully flip 4-star QB Keelon Russell from the Alabama Crimson Tide before signing day.

We know from past history that Oregon is happy to take multiple QBs in a recruiting class and stack their roster with blue-chip passers, so this would be a great get for Dan Lanning and his team.

Ohio State football makes top-4 for four-star 2025 Illinois quarterback Jonas Williams

The Buckeyes are in a battle for one of the nation’s top 2026 quarterbacks

Quarterback recruiting has significantly changed over the last few years, as more and more of them are making early decisions.

Many of Ohio State football’s targets have committed elsewhere, and it looked for a while like the Buckeyes may just skip the 2026 cycle and focus on the future classes.

Fortunately, Ohio State was named as one of Illinois quarterback [autotag]Jonas Williams[/autotag]’ top four along with Oregon, LSU and Alabama. None of his finalists have a verbal at the position, so this is a big development for each of the schools.

The battle for the nation’s No. 96 overall prospect and 8th ranked quarterback according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings will be fierce.

At 6-foot, 3-inches and 185-pounds, Williams has the frame that many teams drool over. Expect Ohio State to put on the full-court press for him over the next few months.

Wisconsin football offers four-star class of 2026 quarterback

Wisconsin football offers four-star class of 2026 quarterback

Wisconsin football extended an offer to class of 2026 quarterback Jonas Williams on Friday.

Williams is currently ranked as a four-star recruit on 247Sports. The New Lenox, Illinois native already holds offers from 21 schools including Oklahoma, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Iowa.

247sports ranks Williams as the No. 8 quarterback in his class, No. 4 recruit from Illinois and No. 130 recruit nationally. At 6-foot-3, 195 lbs, Williams led Lincoln-Way East High School to a 13-1 record and appearance in the 8A state championship game.

His first offer arrived from Kent State University in 2022. From that point forward, the sophomore steadily earned offers from some of the most prestigious programs in the nation.

Williams joins class of 2026 edge rushers Zion Elee, Landon Bland, Tucker Ashford and Elijah Littlejohn to receive offers from UW this spring.

Currently, UW’s quarterback room consists of  Mabrey Mettauer, Cole LaCrue, Braedyn Locke and Tyler Van Dyke. Locke is projected to be the Badgers’ starter this fall.

As a dual-threat under center, Williams would serve as a dynamic weapon at the helm for UW down the line. Wisconsin will compete with Big Ten rivals Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois and Oregon to land Williams.

Ohio State football offers 2026 Illinois quarterback

Ohio State football offered 2026 Illinois quarterback Jonas Williams on Saturday.

Ohio State football has offered a fifth quarterback in the 2026 class as the Buckeyes offered Jonas Williams on Saturday.

Williams is one of the top ranked players out of Illinois.  Two major recruiting resources rate him as a four-star recruit with On3 ranking him as the ninth quarterback in the class while Rivals has him as the sixth ranked quarterback currently.

Patton Fitzpatrick of Prep Redzone had this to say about the young talented quarterback in his evaluation after his sophomore season:

The 6’3, 185 lbs quarterback from Bolingbrook was the only sophomore named to the 8A All-State Honorable Mention Team.  Williams accounted for 2,950 yards and 31 touchdowns this season and is steadily becoming a household name throughout the state.  Plain and simple, Williams can sling the rock.  He possesses a strong arm, plus mobility, and elite accuracy, especially when throwing on the run.

It currently appears like the recruiting battle for Williams will consist of Big Ten teams.  He currently has 16 offers with eight being Big Ten teams including Michigan, Purdue, and Michigan State.
