5 takeaways from Day 3 of the NFL Combine

The receivers ran wild on Day 3 of the NFL Scouting Combine.

The NFL Scouting Combine continued on Saturday with the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers taking the field in Lucas Oil Stadium.

The importance of the combine is more for the medicals and team interviews but the testing does help confirm what you see on tape or it may force you to go back to take a look because a prospect performed better than expected or fell short of expectations.

The Indianapolis Colts are set at quarterback and running back but have questions for depth so those position groups shouldn’t be overlooked this weekend. Another pass catcher should be added to the Indy offense so I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two of the receivers that were on the field to return to it next fall.

Here are the five biggest takeaways from Day 3 of the NFL combine:

2024 NFL Scouting Combine: 4 takeaways from the quarterback workouts

Several top quarterbacks showed off on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Saturday was the big premier day fo the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Not only did we get some of the best times by wide receivers and running backs we’ve ever seen, but we also got to see several of the top quarterback prospects for the 2024 NFL draft go through workouts. Here are our four big takeaways from the workouts.

Joe Milton still wears a Block M on his sleeve

What a class act! #GoBlue

Though just about no one will discuss former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton’s previous school affiliation as he prepares for the NFL draft and participates in the NFL scouting combine, the Orlando, Florida, native hasn’t forgotten where he came from.

And we’re not referring to the Sunshine State.

Milton’s intercollegiate career started in Ann Arbor. Though he had something of a rough go of it, becoming the Michigan football starting quarterback during the COVID-19 season (2020), he’ll always relish his time with the Wolverines, so much so that he was rooting for the maize and blue in their national championship run in 2023.

Appearing at the NFL scouting combine, Milton shared his thoughts on the Wolverines’ run, and as he notes, he did graduate from the University of Michigan.

Milton moved to Knoxville in 2021 and while he got the first nod at starting quarterback at the outset of that season, Hendon Hooker ultimately took the job and ran with it. Milton got his opportunity to regain the starting job after Hooker was injured during the 2022 season. He put on a show in the Capital One Orange Bowl that year and started all of 2023.

While it may not have worked out for Milton and the maize and blue together, it appears it may have actually worked out for all parties involved. Michigan earned its national championship with J.J. McCarthy, and Milton earned his degree and ended up starting for a high-level SEC program.

10 quarterbacks for Broncos to consider in 2024 NFL draft

Here are ten quarterbacks for the Broncos to consider to in the 2024 NFL draft. Who is your favorite prospect?

The Denver Broncos seem likely to move on from Russell Wilson this spring, and even if they do bring him back, the team should draft a quarterback in April.

Wilson might return for the 2024 season, but it’s clear that he is not the long-term answer in Denver. The Broncos should draft a quarterback this spring, even if that QB ends up sitting on the bench as a rookie. Denver needs to begin planning for the future, and Sean Payton needs to find a QB that fits his vision.

The Broncos could stay at No. 12 overall and potentially land the fourth-ranked QB in this year’s class (whoever that ends up being). Alternatively, Denver could trade up to select Payton’s favorite QB prospect near the top of the draft (perhaps No. 1 overall).

Most draft pundits view Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (UNC) and Jayden Daniels (LSU) as the top three quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL draft, but there are several other QBs who could also go off the board in the first round.

Payton recently guesstimated that six or seven QBs could be picked in the first round of the draft. Whether it’s in the first round or later in the draft, the Broncos should target the position in April. Here’s a quick list of 10 quarterbacks to know as the NFL draft draws closer.

Full 7-round 2024 NFL mock draft: Patriots pull off two blockbuster trades

Patriots pull off two major trades to fix their offense in this latest mock draft

The New England Patriots have a rare opportunity to make one of the greatest splashes in recent memory at the 2024 NFL draft. They manage to do so in this week’s seven-round mock draft by pulling off two blockbuster trades with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.

The Patriots have a long history of snubbing their noses at high-end offensive playmakers, but that is likely to change now that Bill Belichick is gone and Eliot Wolf is leading the personnel decision-making.

Of course, the team is also in dire need of offensive line help and a future face of the franchise at the quarterback position. The revolving door of Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and a third wheel veteran signal-caller has worn out its welcome.

In one fell swoop, this mock draft has the Patriots boosting their positions of need, while also creating a roster capable of competing in 2024. Here are the results from the latest seven-round mock draft:

Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Tennessee QB Joe Milton

After transferring form Michigan, it took Joe Milton 2 years to keep the starting QB job. Is Milton’s cannon arm enough to get him drafted?

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

3 QBs the Steelers should consider in the 2024 NFL draft

Pittsburgh could add a mid-round sleeper quarterback in this year’s draft.

As of now, we have no idea what the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room will look like at the start of the 2024 season. Kenny Pickett is returning and we presume will be the starter heading into training camp, Mason Rudolph is a free agent and Mitch Trubisky should be cut loose to save salary cap.

If the Steelers do opt to draft a quarterback, it’s highly unlikely they draft one early but here are three later-round guys we love the potential of.
