Trio of low-cost sharpshooting Boston Celtics free agency targets floated by Bleacher Report

After the style of play we saw them adopt under then-new head coach Joe Mazzulla, a case can certainly be made that it wouldn’t hurt.

Do the Boston Celtics need more shooting? After the style of play we saw them adopt under then-new head coach Joe Mazzulla, a case can certainly be made that it wouldn’t hurt the ball club in their quest for Banner 18. And such an argument was made by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, who sees a trio of prospective options for the Celtics in free agency via the taxpayer midlevel exception or veteran minimum.

Citing the fact that Boston lost only two games last season when they shot over 40% from beyond the arc, Swartz makes a compelling argument for focusing on sharpshooting free agents this offseason. Such players are always in demand, so there will be stiff competition for players who can knock down a trey — and other aspects of their game may have warts given the price point the Celtics have to work with.

Let’s see who Swartz has in mind for Boston.

Joe Ingles had hilarious response to Josh Giddey’s mentor comments

Ingles offered a great reaction to Giddey saying he would stay up and watch him play last season in the NBL.

On Sunday, Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Josh Giddey offered some details about his friendship with Utah Jazz forward and fellow Australian Joe Ingles ahead of their matchup on Wednesday.

Giddey connected with Ingles a few years ago and the two would often talk as the Jazz veteran would offer some tips and pointers when necessary. He revealed that Ingles would stay up late to watch him play with the Adelaide 36ers last season in the National Basketball League.

Said Giddey:

He was one of the first guys to reach out to me when I first signed my contract in Adelaide. We’ve spoke a lot through the years. He was staying up until three in the morning to watch my games and giving me feedback to help me out.

However, that’s not quite how the story goes, at least, according to Ingles.

Ingles would watch Giddey play on occasion but clarified it wasn’t because he stayed up specifically to catch his games. Instead, the bulk of that came when the Jazz would be on late-night plane rides during the course of the season.

When asked on Tuesday about Giddey, Ingles hilariously stopped the reporter.

Is this that stupid question that he got the other day saying I stayed up all night or something? That was because I was on a plane. … I did watch him. He played for my hometown, which was nice. Just giving him an open line and vice versa. If I watched the game, because of that travel, not because I stayed up to watch him play, I would watch a lot of games and shoot him a text with some things and vice versa.

Like Giddey, Ingles played in the NBL, as well. He spent three seasons with the South Dragons, which are now a defunct team, prior to playing in Europe and before joining the Jazz in 2014. He would give tips to Giddey about the level of play in the NBL.

The two had the opportunity to spend time together this summer with Australia in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics. Giddey did not make the final 12-man roster but played with the Boomers in some exhibition games in Las Vegas before the team departed for Tokyo.

Ingles joked that Giddey would almost ask too many questions.

I don’t know how many times you give someone the opportunity to ask questions and they really take as much of it on as they can. He was almost to the point of being annoying with the questions but I, obviously, committed to trying to help him. With the national team, he didn’t make the final team, but to spend time with him … I knew he was going to be a hell of a player when he got over here and so far, so good. He has played well.

As fate would have it, Oklahoma City opens the regular season on the road Wednesday against Ingles and the Utah Jazz. The contest will have special meaning for Giddey as his first NBA game and his first matchup against Ingles.

The chance to play Igles will certainly be a fun moment for Giddey. Bragging rights will no doubt be on the line between the two players, so it will be worth watching to see how it all unfolds.

Thunder rookie Josh Giddey excited to face Joe Ingles in NBA debut

Giddey has leaned heavily on fellow Australian Joe Ingles and will soon have the opportunity to face his mentor on the court.

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Josh Giddey has leaned heavily on fellow Australian Joe Ingles over the years and the sixth overall pick will soon have the opportunity to face his mentor on the court.

Giddey on Sunday revealed that Ingles would often check in with him while he played with the Adelaide 36ers last season in the National Basketball League. Ingles would even stay up late to watch Giddey play and give him feedback on how he performed.

The two had the opportunity to spend some time together this summer with Australia in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics. Giddey did not make the final 12-man roster but played with the Boomers in some exhibition games in Las Vegas before the team departed for Tokyo.

As fate would have it, Oklahoma City opens up the regular season on the road Wednesday versus Ingles and the Utah Jazz. The contest will have some special meaning for Giddey as his first NBA game, and first matchup against Ingles.

It’s going to be really cool. Joe has been someone I’ve looked up to for a lot of my junior career. He is, obviously, an Australian legend, has had a very good NBA career. He has been a big help for me over the last 18 months.

He was one of the first guys to reach out to me when I first signed my contract in Adelaide. We’ve spoke a lot through the years. He was staying up until three in the morning to watch my games and giving me feedback to help me out.

Giddey admitted that he is excited to get the season started and begin playing in games that count. The team knows it will have a tough challenge against the Jazz but the players have had a positive outlook after wrapping up the preseason.

The chance to play an idol in Igles will certainly be a fun moment for Giddey on Wednesday. Bragging rights will no doubt be on the line between the two players so it will be worth watching to see how it all unfolds.

Trade rumor rankings: Goran Dragic, Pascal Siakam and more

HoopsHype ranks the five players who have appeared most on our Trade Rumors Page over the past week, headlined by Goran Dragic.

We’re getting deeper into the offseason now with Summer League set to culminate this week, and with that, comes some peace and calm in the NBA transaction world… everywhere except on the trade market.

Just on Sunday, we got a report of a relatively noteworthy trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies that would send Eric Bledsoe back to the team that drafted him, Los Angeles, in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo and Daniel Oturu.

Beyond that deal, we’re also starting to see a steady stream of trade rumors involving players outside of the major names we’ve been hearing for months now.

Below, check out the latest installment of our Trade Rumor Rankings series, which ranks the five players who have appeared most on our Trade Rumors Page over the previous seven days.

With 2021 NBA free agency all but wrapped up, everyone’s eyes will now turn to the trade market, which could be where we see the next major move of the offseason happen.

There have been multiple huge names bandied about on the trade market for weeks, even months, so it won’t be a huge surprise to see a big trade come to fruition before training camp tips off in a bit over a month.

Trade rumor rankings: Bradley Beal, Joe Ingles and more

HoopsHype ranks the six players who have appeared most on our Trade Rumors Page over the past week, headlined by Bradley Beal.

In our first week without NBA basketball and with just a week to go until free agency kicks off, the trade rumors have begun to get rampant, ranging from scuttle about role players to superstars.

And due to the nature of free agency this year, with many teams lacking cap space and only a few game-changing players set to be available, there’s an expectation out there the trade market could get wild this offseason.

Joe Ingles surprised Jazz teammate Jordan Clarkson with Sixth Man of the Year award during interview

What a wonderful moment between Jazz teammates.

Jordan Clarkson got quite the surprise during his joint interview with Utah Jazz teammate Joe Ingles on TNT on Monday. Ahead of the awarding of the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year trophy, Clarkson and Ingles were being interviewed by TNT host Ernie Johnson when something unexpected occurred.

Johnson asked both Clarkson and Ingles how many Jazz players had won the Sixth Man of the Year award, with Clarkson saying none and Ingles saying one. The two looked at each other before Ingles pointed to Clarkson, indicating that his teammate had won the award.

It’s an incredibly touching and heartwarming moment between Clarkson and Ingles, as the former was in overwhelmed disbelief while the latter was overjoyed to hype up his teammate.

Both Clarkson and Ingles were, in fact, nominated for the award together, as was New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose. However, Clarkson received 65 first place votes to finish at the top while Ingles received 34 first place votes and finished in second. It is also the first time that two teammates went one-two in voting for the Sixth Man of the Year award.

The NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award is given to the league’s best performing player for his team coming off the bench as a substitute. This year, Clarkson averaged a career-high 18.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 68 games this season as the Jazz secured the top spot in the Western Conference.

What a moment between two teammates!

Jazz at Lakers: Lineups, injury report and broadcast info for Saturday

The Los Angeles Lakers face the best team in the NBA this season, but they just lost their best player, Donovan Mitchell.

This weekend’s two-game set between the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center definitely lacks the luster of a potential playoff match-up. That is even more true following Friday’s injury to Donovan Mitchell, which will see him miss several games with a sprained ankle.

The Jazz recovered with him out of the game, because they’re still a great team that can generate quality 3-point shots and force teams into tough shots on the other end thanks to Rudy Gobert. The Lakers will also have to set their defensive attention more on Bogdanovic, Ingles, and Conley with Mitchell out of the lineup. Former Laker Jordan Clarkson will also likely see an expanded role during Mitchell’s recovery.

Here’s when you should tune in to see the game:

  • Date: Saturday, April 17
  • Time: 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT
  • TV Channel: ESPN

Utah: Donovan Mitchell will be out for a few weeks after suffering a sprained ankle.

Probable starting lineups

  • F Kyle Kuzma
  • F Markieff Morris
  • C Andre Drummond

Anthony Davis once again leads Lakers in clinching bubble win

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers showed up with their most complete game of the Walt Disney World bubble on Monday.

After failing to score over 20 points in his second game at the Walt Disney World Bubble, LeBron James answered with an emphatic performance on Monday night in the Lakers’ third game of the restart against the Utah Jazz. With the win, the Lakers clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, as the Los Angeles Clippers no longer have the time in the schedule to surpass the Purple and Gold.

It looked close at times but ultimately, anybody who watched the game could see that Utah was terribly overmatched. LeBron James actually scored over 20 points for the first time in three games down on the shores of Lake Buena Vista, but it could not have mattered less as LeBron, AD and the Lakers handled a team that looks less than whole without 20-point per game scorer Bojan Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic is out for the rest of the season after getting surgery.

But Bogdanovic or no Bogdanovic, LeBron showed his mettle.

After tonight’s win, the Lakers have a great opportunity to rest their best players ahead of what will surely be a tough playoff starting in a couple of weeks.
