Pair of former Gators to be inducted into Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame

This pair of Gator greats will get their due at the end of this month.

Florida football has a long history of excellence which crescendoed as the 20th century faded into the 21st, resulting in three national championships over a decade-plus stretch. While the glory days are now in the rearview mirror, a pair of former Gators from that era are set to be honored for their excellence.

The City of Jacksonville announced on Wednesday two that former football standouts, running back [autotag]Earnest Graham[/autotag] and defensive back [autotag]Joe Haden[/autotag], will be inducted into the 2023 Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame.

Graham was one of the best running backs the Swamp had ever seen — and that says a lot for a school that has produced a plethora of NFL talent including Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. He amassed 3,065 rushing yards — adding to his total of 3,468 all-purpose yards — with 33 career rushing touchdowns over five years

The talented tailback is also the sole player in team history with three 100-yard rushing games and averaged 135 yards per bowl game. His son, linebacker Myles Graham, is a 2024 commit to the Orange and Blue out of Gainesville (Florida) Buchholz.

Haden’s arrival on the scene was a historic one, becoming the first true freshman to start at cornerback in the program’s season opener, which came in 2007 against Western Kentucky. He recorded 218 total tackles, 157 solo, 34 pass breakups, eight interceptions, and 3.5 sacks in 40 career games — all starts — before being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.

The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 27, as part of Florida-Georgia football weekend at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Joe Haden inks one-day deal, retires with Cleveland Browns

Joe Haden has officially inked a one-day deal and retired as a member of the Cleveland Browns

In other Cleveland Browns news, they have signed veteran cornerback Joe Haden. Well, sort of. They have signed Haden to a one-day deal so he can retire as a member of the Browns. They will celebrate Haden during the Week 8 primetime game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Haden was drafted in with the seventh overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Browns. After his release in 2017, Haden went on to play the last five seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It is good to know Joe knows to who his allegiance truly belongs. Congratulations to Haden and best of luck for his future.

Dooley’s Dozen: 12 must-know facts ahead of Florida’s homecoming game

Pat Dooley dishes out a dozen important facts about Florida’s upcoming homecoming game against the Missouri Tigers.

Remember in the old days when Florida would play a non-SEC school on homecoming so the alumni would be sure to go home happy?

That changed in 1996 when Florida started playing SEC games on its special day.

This is the third time that Florida will play Missouri on homecoming. They also did in 2014 and 2016.

Florida will have its Hall of Fame induction the night before the game as usual with football players [autotag]Joe Haden[/autotag] and [autotag]Jeff Demps[/autotag] being inducted along with seven others including former athletic director [autotag]Jeremy Foley[/autotag].

But this is about the school that goes by “Mizzou” more than by the school name.

So, here we go with 12 things you need to know about… MIZZOU.

Report: Rams showed interest in Joe Haden this offseason

This past offseason, the Rams were among the teams that showed interest in Joe Haden

The Rams didn’t hide their need for cornerback help this offseason after losing Darious Williams in free agency. They traded for Troy Hill and drafted both Cobie Durant and Derion Kendrick, adding some much-needed reinforcements in the secondary.

They also showed interest in veteran corner Joe Haden, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Haden, who is retiring from the NFL, planned to play a 13th season in 2022 and the Rams were among the teams that showed interest. But after no deal came together, he remained a free agent and has decided to retire.

Haden last played for the Steelers from 2017-2021, making the Pro Bowl once in that span. He originally came into the NFL as the seventh overall pick in 2010 and spent seven years with the Browns, earning two Pro Bowl nods.

Joe Haden signing one-day deal to retire with Cleveland Browns

Cornerback Joe Haden will return to his roots as he is signing a one-day deal to retire as a member of the Cleveland Browns

Veteran cornerback Joe Haden is ready to call it a career, and he is retiring as a member of the Cleveland Browns. According to Adam Schefter, Haden will sign a one-day deal with the Browns as he hangs up his cleats.

Drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Haden was one of few bright spots on a handful of abysmal football teams during his time in Cleveland. He made two Pro Bowls during his time with the Browns.

Released prior to the 2017 season, Haden then went on to play the rest of his career out as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. With both of Haden’s teams set to square off tomorrow, they will honor him as he officially retires after 12 seasons during Thursday Night Football.

Cardinals in desperate need of help at two key defensive positions

While there is plenty of things to be optimistic about, the Cardinals have two huge question marks on defense

Following a sold-out Red & White Practice that approximately 18,000 fans attended, the Arizona Cardinals have a deficiency at two key defensive positions.

While there is plenty to be excited about, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, two of the team’s biggest positional question marks from the beginning of the offseason have been left unanswered. Those, of course, are the edge rusher and cornerback spots. With the home opener against the Chiefs just over a month away, time is running short.

The Cardinals opted not to make a big-ticket free agent or trade acquisition following the loss of Pro Bowl pass rusher Chandler Jones to the Raiders. Instead, they opted to draft two third-round rookies at the position in Myjai Sanders and Cameron Thomas.

While the two have made promising strides and figure to have bright futures, the Cardinals would benefit greatly from having a veteran presence similar to that of Jones, particularly in the tough NFC West.

Veterans Markus Golden has a toe injury and Devon Kennard left Saturday’s practice early. It is a reminder of how thin the position is for the Cardinals.

Similarly, the team has yet to address the outside cornerback position. With last year’s CB1 Byron Murphy set to play in the slot this year, the outside position is questionable.

Cornerback Marco Wilson is a player the team desperately needs to take another step forward. He would be a returning starter from last year but the Cardinals don’t have much else at the position. They recently added former Packers cornerback Josh Jackson, who has flashed, but haven’t done anything else.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury has even stated that the team likes and will be in the market for a free agent cornerback. It doesn’t get much more obvious of a need than when it is publicly called for by the head coach.

There are ways to fill these position gaps before the regular season beyond a plug-and-play band-aid. The likes of Chicago’s Pro Bowler Robert Quinn could be available for trade. Veteran corners like Joe Haden and Robert Alford would be immediate starters for this team.

The Cardinals have made a commitment to winning following the lucrative extension for Kyler Murray. Adding veterans at the edge rusher and cornerback positions would do wonders for a team that figures to have an electric offense.

Highest-rated Browns in Madden video game history

Our guy @joshkeatley16 did the hard work and found the highest-rated Browns in Madden video game history #Browns #Madden

It was recently announced that Myles Garrett was going to be joining the 99 club for the upcoming Madden 23 game and he deserves it, but it had me thinking, what other Cleveland Browns were rated this high?

A couple of things to keep in mind when going through this list. I am only using release ratings. I felt it was only fair to use the ratings that were used during the release of the game as players like Jamir Miller, Tre Johnson, and Courtney Brown didn’t get the benefit of the fancy online mid-season updates.

It is also important to note that even though the Madden game has been released every year since 1988, I only used the ratings from 1999 and sooner. There are a few reasons for this as the first is anything before that year is very hard to find, honestly, Madden 2000 ratings were almost impossible to find online, but the second reason is early game ratings were wild. Players didn’t have an overall, they just had a few traits and they only went up to 15. For reference, Bernie Kosar did not have an overall but did have an 11 in passing range and 12 in passing accuracy.

Also keep in mind that the Madden games are named for the year when the season is complete, so Madden 23 is actually for the 2022 season. The following are the 11 highest-rated Cleveland Browns in Madden video game history, I will only name each player once based on their highest rating, so Joe Thomas despite being rated high for his entire career will only be listed once:

Fun fact before we start, the Browns have never had a quarterback hit the 90 overall range since coming back.

Several Buffalo Bills players ‘recruiting’ veteran Joe Haden

Several #Bills were players ‘recruiting’ veteran Joe Haden:

New Buffalo Bills superstar Von Miller is making a pitch to bring a veteran to Western New York. Superstar wideout Stefon Diggs seems interested in the idea as well through his social media. Jordan Poyer has also hinted at this as well.

Miller reached out to veteran cornerback Joe Haden to discuss his initial impressions of Buffalo. Spoiler alert: Miller has enjoyed his short time in Buffalo, His salesmanship praised everything from the coaches to the lunch ladies.

Haden is a 12-year NFL veteran. Originally drafted 7th overall in the 2010 Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Haden has recorded 615 total tackles, 154 passes defended, and 29 interceptions.  Haden is a three-time Pro Bowler, last making the game in 2016. Haden was named a second-team All-Pro with the Browns in 2013.

The interest in a veteran makes sense, as the Bills have brought in veteran cornerbacks multiple times with varying success (Vontae Davis, Josh Norman, EJ Gaines). In addition, starter Levi Wallace left via free agency and Tre’Davious White is returning from an ACL tear.
