SEC recruiting rankings: June update

The 2024 recruiting cycle has been kind to the Auburn Tigers thus far. How are they doing compared to the rest of the SEC?

The month of June has been a busy one in the world of recruiting, especially for the Auburn Tigers.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and staff have welcomed a myriad of popular recruits to visit campus, and have been fortunate enough to earn three commitments at this point in the month.

The month started with the Tigers earning two commitments on the same day. Auburn beat out Ole Miss in the pursuit of three-star wide receiver [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] on June 13. Later that day, four-star safety [autotag]Kensley Faustin[/autotag] announced that he would also be committing to Auburn.

The third commitment of the month was the most notable. [autotag]Joseph Phillips[/autotag], a four-star linebacker from nearby Tuskegee, chose Auburn over Georgia. Phillips is now Auburn’s second-highest-ranked commit for the 2024 cycle, and his commitment is declared a monster win for Freeze on the recruiting trail.

In other refreshing news, three 2024 commits announced that they would be “shutting down” their recruitment. Joining four-star quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] by doing this trend are tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag], running back [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], and defensive back [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag].

As the month of June begins its final lap, here’s a look at how Auburn stacks up in recruiting with the rest of the SEC according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

J’Marion Burnette becomes latest Auburn commit to ‘shut down’ recruitment

This is a trend that everyone can get behind.

This is a trend that we could all get used to.

[autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], a four-star running back from Andalusia, became Auburn’s fourth commit of the 2024 class when he pledged to Auburn in March. On Thursday, he shared he would shut down his recruitment and focus solely on Auburn until the early signing period in December.

He becomes the latest 2024 commit to make such a decision. Four-star QB [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] kicked off the trend and has basically served as an extra recruiter for Auburn since committing to the program in February. Three-star tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag] announced earlier this week that he would shut down his recruitment. Four-star DB [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag] followed suit by doing the same on Tuesday.

As [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] works to rebuild the program, it can not be stressed how important it is for him to hold on to his best recruits. If Burnette and fellow pledges continue to persuade others to follow the trend, the days of waiting until signing day to get excited over a top recruit will soon end.

Top 10 running backs in the 2024 recruiting cycle

Running backs still play an important role for any offense that wants to be well-balanced.

You need only look at the NFL’s list of free agents to see the running back position being devalued in real-time. There’s a long and analytic conversation to be had there, but the fact that Dalvin Cook, Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott are all still available at this point in the year says everything you need to know. Nevertheless, running backs still play an important role for any offense that wants to be well-balanced—including the high school and college levels.

Here are the top 10 running backs in the class of 2024. To get the composite rankings, we averaged their national rankings from ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.

Four-star athlete Daniel Hill puts Auburn in top 8

The Tigers are one of six SEC schools to make the cut.

Auburn is one of several SEC schools pursuing four-star athlete [autotag]Daniel Hill[/autotag] and on Sunday he announced his top eight schools and the Tigers made the cut.

The Meridian, Mississippi native also included South Carolina, Michigan, Penn State, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi State.

Auburn is recruiting him as a running back with [autotag]Cadillac Williams[/autotag] leading the charge. The Tigers already have one running back in four-star [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag] but they are looking to land two running backs in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Hills is the No. 196 overall player and No. 16 athlete in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 7 player from Mississippi.

Despite including Auburn, Hill has never visited the Plains and the Tigers will need to change that if they have any hope of catching South Carolina. They are the heavy favorite with three crystal balls in their favor at 247Sports.

Auburn listed among teams with the most blue-chip commits so far in the 2024 recruiting cycle

The future of Auburn football is off to a hot start.

Since [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] took over as head coach of the Auburn Tigers football program late last year he wasted no time trying to improve Auburn’s recruiting after lackluster efforts by the previous tenure.

The efforts have not gone unnoticed as Auburn’s recruiting class of 2023 improved drastically in a short period, and the Tigers have made a big splash in the transfer portal. The 2024 recruiting class, which will be the first recruiting class for Freeze, is already shaping up to be one of the best Auburn has seen.

Blue-chip commits are recruits who have a four or five-star rating. The percentage of a team’s commits who meet that criterion is that team’s blue-chip percentage. Four of Auburn’s five commits for the 2024 class fit the mold: QB [autotag]Walker White[/autotag], RB [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], CB [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag], and CB [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag].

On3 ranked the programs with the highest blue-chip ratings so far in the 2024 cycle and Auburn is currently in fourth place with 80% of its commits meeting the bill.

The programs ahead of Auburn are Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Ohio State. The rest of the top 10 after Auburn includes Clemson, Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, USC, and Michigan.

Tight end Martavious Collins commits to Auburn

He was previously committed to Alabama before backing off his pledge.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn have pulled off yet another flip. This time it’s three-star tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag] who was previously committed to Alabama.

The Rome, Georgia product announced the news Friday afternoon when he picked the Tigers over Florida State and a host of other schools.

While multiple coaches put in the work to pull off the flip, tight end coach [autotag]Ben Aigamaua[/autotag] led the charge for Collins.

Collins committed to Alabama back in July but Auburn never stopped recruiting him. He visited in September and January prior to backing off his pledge to the Crimson Tide. He then returned for the A-Day game and tabbed Auburn as his leader.

The 6-foot-3, 241-pounder is a traditional tight end who has the athleticism to be a receiving threat but his blocking ability is the strength of his game. He can line up on the line of scrimmage or in the backfield.

Collins is the No. 507 overall player and No. 50 athlete in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 54 player from Georgia.

He is Auburn’s fifth commit of the 2024 recruiting cycle, joining four-star quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag], four-star running back [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], and four-star cornerbacks [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag].

Auburn is likely not done recruiting tight ends this cycle as they are expected to take two with the second one being a bigger factor in the receiving game.

Who will be Auburn football’s next 2024 commit? Keep an eye on these offensive prospects

Auburn could have a talented 2024 haul on the offensive side of the football, especially on the offensive line.

Auburn football ended the 2023 cycle by climbing out of the depths of the Power Five rankings and ending with a top 25 class.

Hugh Freeze and staff are off to a great start in 2024 as well as they have currently landed four 4-star prospects in CB [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag], CB [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag], RB [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], and QB [autotag]Walker White[/autotag].

Burnette was the latest 2024 product to commit to Auburn when he did so on March 24. The Andalusia native chose Auburn over programs such as Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State. White has been the headliner as he commits to Auburn as the top-ranked prospect from the state of Arkansas. He has also been an auxiliary member of the coaching staff by publically recruiting Auburn’s 2024 class on social media.

Who will be Auburn’s next commit? On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine suggests that seven offensive prospects are currently favored to commit to Auburn. When looking for Auburn’s next commit, here are the seven names that you need to keep an eye on.

Auburn earns spot in 2024 receiver’s top schools list

Auburn is in the mix to land a priority four-star receiver from Tampa, Florida.

Auburn will look to boost its receiver room in the 2024 recruiting cycle and is on its way to making it happen.

[autotag]T.J. Moore[/autotag], a four-star receiver from Tampa, Florida, recently dropped his top 13 choices, and Auburn is in the mix.

Auburn was one of the first schools to extend an offer to Moore by joining Central Michigan and UCF in doing so last August. Since then, Moore has earned 36 offers from Power Five programs including USC, Michigan, Oregon, and Texas.

Since the start of the Hugh Freeze era, [autotag]Cadillac Williams[/autotag] and wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] have taken over as Moore’s primary recruiters. This helps, as Moore plays high school for former Auburn receiver [autotag]Jeris McIntyre[/autotag] at Tampa Catholic.

According to a scouting report by Andrew Ivens of 247Sports, Moore is a “big play wide receiver with exceptional hands” and “should be viewed as a potential WR1 at the Power Five level.” In his 11th-grade season at Tampa Catholic, he caught 42 passes for 1,021 yards and 13 TD.

Moore is a 6-3, 190-pound four-star wide receiver that ranks No. 21 in the nation at the position and is the No. 22 overall prospect from Florida for the 2024 cycle. The 2024 recruiting class for Auburn currently ranks No. 22 according to 247Sports and is headlined by four-star QB [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] and four-star RB [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag].

Two SEC schools are co-leaders for four-star wide receiver Mario Craver

Several schools are in pursuit of Mario Craver but Auburn and Florida are standing out to the four-star wide receiver.

Auburn is looking to sign an impressive wide receiver class in the 2024 recruiting cycle and a key target is four-star receiver [autotag]Mario Craver[/autotag].

Craver is from Pinson, Alabama and the Tigers are one of the top teams in his recruitment. They are battling a host of other schools, but Craver told Blake Alderman of 247Sports that Auburn and Florida are his top two schools.

“Amazing, he said of the process. “It’s really going pretty quick. This is the moment where everyone is starting to push. I am trying to stay true to who has been sticking with me the longest and try to see through the fake.”

The 5-foot-9, 152-pounder took unofficial visits to both schools in March and is planning to officially visit both later this spring or in the summer. He also revealed that he plans to commit before his senior season starts.

Craver is the No. 239 overall player and No. 35 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 14 player from Alabama.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn have already landed an impressive haul of in-state targets in the 2024 cycle. They have commitments from the No. 8 ([autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag]), No. 18 ([autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag]), and No. 22 ([autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag]) players in the state.

J’Marion Burnette is already recruiting for Auburn

He is working on four-star offensive lineman Jonathan Daniels.

Four-star running back [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag] is the newest member of Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class but he is already working to bring some help.

Just 20 minutes after he announced his commitment to Auburn on Friday, he took to Twitter to recruit four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Jonathan Daniels[/autotag], letting him know he needs to “Come to the AU and block for me and [autotag]Walker White[/autotag].”

Daniels, who posted a video of him running the 100-meter in track, was offered by Auburn on June 20, 2022, and was on campus on Jan. 26 for an unofficial visit.

Burnette wasn’t the only Auburn commit working on Danield, four-star quarterback White tweeted “Facts!!! Need them Big boys!!!” at Daniels.

The Pensacola, Florida native is currently projected to go to Florida State but with Burnette and White on the case, the Tigers have a better chance of landing the 6-foot-3, 280-pounder than they did before.

Daniels is the No. 117 overall player and No. 6 interior offensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 17 player from Florida.

Auburn is still looking for its first commitment along the offensive line in the 2024 recruiting class but does have the No. 18 class in the country after the addition of Burnette.
