6 Jets to watch in preseason Week 3 vs. Giants

Here are 6 players from the Jets to watch in Saturday’s preseason finale against the Giants.

The final week of the preseason is upon us and the New York Jets will square off against the New York Giants on Saturday. This will be the final tune-up game for the Jets as they embark on a season filled with lofty expectations upon the addition of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

As one of the teams that participated in the Hall of Fame Game this year, the Jets have produced a 1-2 record in their first three preseason matchups. Just last week, New York lost 13-6 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With the Jets playing more starters on Saturday against the Giants, here are six players to keep tabs on in the preseason finale.

6 Jets to watch in preseason Week 2 vs. Buccaneers

The Jets face the Buccaneers in Week 2 of the preseason and we have 6 players to watch in Saturday’s matchup.

After holding joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week, the New York Jets will take on Todd Bowles’ squad on Saturday for their third preseason contest. Each week is an opportunity for players to earn roster spots and there is less than a month until the regular season kicks off.

The Jets shut out the Carolina Panthers 27-0 in last week’s exhibition game following a 21-16 loss to the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game. With the Jets gearing up for another preseason matchup on Saturday, here are six players to keep an eye on versus the Buccaneers.

Jets sign cornerback Jimmy Moreland to practice squad

The Jets add a corner to their practice squad

The Jets added some veteran help at the cornerback position to their practice squad, signing Jimmy Moreland, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Moreland was a seventh-round pick by Washington back in 2019 and spent last season with the Houston Texans.

In 37 career games (ten starts), Moreland recorded 88 total tackles, five passes defended and one interception.

The Jets also added punter Ty Long, formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, to their practice squad Tuesday.

Report: CB Jimmy Moreland visiting Browns for workout Friday

Perhaps in response to Greedy’s injury downgrade today, the Browns are reportedly bringing in a cornerback to workout tomorrow:

The Cleveland Browns seem to have good depth at their cornerback position but, as we’ve noted numerous times, that won’t stop GM Andrew Berry from mixing things up. Berry constantly brings players in for workouts and is often making moves at the bottom of the roster.

Earlier today, we shared that CB Greedy Williams was downgraded from a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice to not practicing on Thursday. CBs Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II have also dealt with some injury issues in training camp while rookie CB Martin Emerson has looked good in his time on the field.

Perhaps in response to Williams’ injury concern, the Browns are reportedly bringing in CB Jimmy Moreland for a workout Friday:

Moreland last played for the Houston Texans after two seasons with Washington. In his three years in the league, Moreland has played in 37 games where he has five pass deflections, one interception and one forced fumble.

The 5’11” cornerback also is credited with half a sack.

If Berry does sign Moreland, he fits better on the inside as a slot cornerback than on the outside. A move for a slot cornerback could keep Newsome on the outside in three or more wide receiver sets.

Stay tuned for official word that Moreland visited and whether or not Berry has another move to make with the roster.

Eagles announce three roster moves as team gets down to the 85-player limit

Philadelphia Eagles waive Lance Lenoir, Jimmy Moreland, and Jared Mayden as the team trims down to 85 players

The Philadelphia Eagles announced three roster moves on Tuesday as the team prepares for a Wednesday flight to Cleveland for two days of joint practices and a preseason matchup against the Browns on Sunday.

Philadelphia waived/injured wide receiver Lance Lenoir, safety Jared Mayden, and cornerback Jimmy Moreland just days after the team moved on from Ali Fayad and William Dunkle.

The Eagles had to get to 85 players by the 4:00 PM est deadline, and they’ll need to be down to 80 players by next Tuesday afternoon.

Eagles release LB Joe Ostman

Philadelphia Eagles release linebacker/edge rusher Joe Ostman

Joe Ostman was without a jersey number when we recently profiled Philadelphia’s 90-man roster and now he’s without a team after being released by the Eagles on Monday.

The move followed Philadelphia claiming former Texans and Washington cornerback Jimmy Moreland off of waivers.

Ostman was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and his best chance at a roster spot came in 2019 when he was shining before suffering a torn ACL during training camp.

With Haason Reddick, Kyron Johnson, and Ali Fayad at the SAM linebacker position, Ostman’s days were numbered.

Eagles claim CB Jimmy Moreland off waivers from Texans

In a move that could see Avonte Maddox shift to the safety position, the Philadelphia Eagles claim CB Jimmy Moreland off waivers from the Houston Texans

In a matter of weeks, the Eagles have gone from claiming they love the young cornerbacks on the roster, to signing James Bradberry and now claiming Jimmy Moreland off of waivers from the Houston Texans.

Moreland landed with Houston after being waived by Washington.

A 2019 seventh-round pick out of James Madison, Moreland has appeared in 30 games over his three seasons but saw limited action with the Texans last season and he’ll now join a crowded cornerback group that includes Darius Slay, James Bradberry, Avonte Maddox, Kary Vincent, Zech McPherson, Tay Gowan, Josiah Scott, Mac McCain, and Craig James.

The dust has settled on the second Detroit Lions draft class under Brad Holmes, and a theme is starting to become quite clear. Under the Holmes/Campbell regime, they value high character players, especially those who were team captains. On top of that, they covet prospects with primer athleticism.

Detroit walked away with one of the top athletic classes in the 2022 draft and will look to continue building its foundation with potential cornerstone players and strong depth rounding out the roster. We will get our first glimpse of these prospects with minicamp right around the corner, but what kind of comparisons can we make on these players?

Using Player Profiler’s best player comparison feature and the Relative Athletic Score (RAS) tool, we can create a picture of what we could expect from these prospects from an athletic perspective.

Here are the best comparisons for the Lions 2022 draft class.

Texans CB Jimmy Moreland will not travel against the Jaguars

The Houston Texans will not have cornerback Jimmy Moreland (illness) as they play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15.

The Houston Texans will be without cornerback help as they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at TIAA Bank Field.

The Texans ruled out Jimmy Moreland on Saturday with an illness. Moreland will not travel with the team to Jacksonville.

Moreland has been activated for five games this season. His last activation was against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 when Houston fell 31-0 at NRG Stadium. Moreland saw eight defensive snaps, his only such snaps of the season. Moreland has played 19 snaps on special teams for the Texans in 2021.

The former James Madison product was also left behind for the Texans’ Week 4 road game with the Buffalo Bills, also with an illness.
