Jimmy Fallon tells Chris Paul he can co-host Tonight Show if traded to Knicks

Jimmy Fallon gave Chris Paul a unique pitch to play for the New York Knicks — a chance to co-host the Tonight Show.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to talk about his efforts in helping put the NBA bubble together and starting the Social Change Fund with other athletes.

They also talked about a rumor that former President Barack Obama once crossed Paul over.

Fallon couldn’t help but also asking him about trade rumors for next season. While Paul played it cool and said that, entering his 16th season, he’s not paying attention because over the years, he’s “heard about every rumor you could possibly hear.”

“You learn to control what you can control,” Paul said. “If something happens, it will. If not, I love being in Oklahoma with our team.”

Fallon wasn’t done though. He pushed Paul on going to the New York Knicks, and gave him a pitch that even team owner James Dolan wouldn’t be able to ensure the point guard.

“If you come even close to the Knicks, I want you to co-host the Tonight Show with me,” Fallon said, to which Paul laughed at.

Paul does not have full control over his future, but he does have some sway in where Oklahoma City sends him. The Thunder have earned a reputation in sending players where they want to be, thanks to the Paul George and Russell Westbrook trades, and Paul would fall along that same spectrum of star requests.

Fallon may not be serious in his co-host proposal, but if the deciding factor in Paul wanting to go to the Knicks is the stipulation that he appears on the show … well, don’t think that Fallon, a Knicks fan, would hesitate to let him on.

Matisse Thybulle vlog peeks into game day, Jimmy Fallon interview

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle has released the latest episode in his vlog series.

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle continues to make a big impact on the floor defensively so far to begin his career, but he is capturing the attention of fans across the globe with his YouTube channel.

Thybulle has been releasing these YouTube video blogs called “Inside the Bubble” and after the team’s 108-101 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday, the rookie released episode number 7 in the series.

This one featured a sneak-peek into a regular game-day routine for him at Disney World which includes waking and getting after it with the team around 11:00 A.M. EST. He then had to prepare for a special interview with popular television host Jimmy Fallon as he was brought on to discuss the popularity of the videos.

However, Thybulle also used the platform to discuss why he chose the social message “vote” on the back of his jersey and why it’s so important to him in a powerful way. It also includes an emotional phone call with his father just before the interview with Fallon that really shows how proud the elder Thybulle is of his son.

The video finishes off in a dramatic way with Shake Milton’s game-winner over the San Antonio Spurs.

It has been absolutely impressive that Thybulle has continued to push these videos out. The content, the editing, and the labors of love in these videos are felt and he has done an incredible job of capturing what life truly is like in a unique situation inside this bubble. Rookie Matisse Thybulle admits to Jimmy Fallon NBA bubble idea ‘crazy’

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle joined Jimmy Fallon to discuss the crazy bubble idea the NBA has.

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle was just trying to find his way in the crazy world that is the NBA. There is a huge adjustment that must be made from the huge uptick in games to the level of competition, all of that travel, and the rookie duties that come with it.

Throw in a global pandemic that causes the season to put on pause in March and that is enough to drive anybody crazy. Thybulle joined The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to discuss what went through his mind the night the league was put on hiatus.

It’s crazy because for me, just being in the NBA is crazy. I’m just trying to figure it out and as I think I’m hitting a groove and finding a routine, everything gets shut down and to have this be my life and my new normal and put on hold in a way that noone’s ever seen before, it’s confusing. It left me and a lot of guys in this limbo. I’m just trying to figure out what’s next.

Since then, the NBA has resumed the season inside this bubble at Disney World in Orlando and Thybulle’s star has risen. He has started his own YouTube channel and has created his vlogs to document this historic moment in sports history.

However, Thybulle was not originally on board with living inside the bubble. It sounded a little wild to him when he first heard about it.

It sounded crazy. I mean, it is crazy! The fact that we’re even here, but when I first heard it I was like ‘There’s no way they can do that, right?’…They also sent out this manual of what they’re going to be doing. It was like over 100 pages of the health protocols. I mean, I didn’t read it but I definitely saw if they were going to put that much into the whole thing to send the players, I was like, ‘Okay. They definitely put some thought into this.’

Thybulle and the Sixers continue their life in the bubble on Wednesday when they take on the Washington Wizards at Disney World. [lawrence-related id=36125,36116,36108]

The Jimmy Fallon blackface controversy, explained

Understanding what’s happening with the Jimmy Fallon blackface scandal, which surfaced this week.

Welcome to FTW Explains: a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world.

This week the internet hordes turned their ire onto NBC late night host Jimmy Fallon, over an incident in which he appeared on television in blackface over 20 years ago. The Twitter hashtag #jimmyfallonisoverparty got some traction on Tuesday morning, and it was a whole thing.

How did we get here? How did the most inoffensive late night show host end up as the newest person to get called out en masse on the internet? We’ll break it down for you right now.

So, Fallon, huh?

Fallon.

What happened?

This week video surfaced of Fallon on Saturday Night Live in 2000, doing a bit in which he impersonated former SNL cast member Chris Rock.

Oh no. Did the impersonation go the full —

Yes. Yes it did. Full impersonation. Including blackface.

Oh no.

Oh no is right!

How is this just coming out 20 years later?

This video actually resurfaced two years ago as a response to Megyn Kelly losing her job on The Today Show.

Wait. What does Megyn Kelly have to do with any of this?

Good question! In 2018, Megyn Kelly was pushed out of a role on The Today Show after she argued on air that wearing blackface for a Halloween costume was appropriate.

In an effort to highlight hypocrisy, right wing internet users surfaced the footage of Fallon as a response. Basically: Kelly lost her job, but Fallon got to host The Tonight Show, and they both did the same-ish thing. Sort of.

But that was two years ago.

Yes.

So why is it back this week?

Unclear. It’s re-resurfaced, and I can’t begin to explain why.

Is Fallon as culpable as Kelly?

Eh, it depends on how you want to look at it. Fallon did not just paint his face black and run out on the set of SNL. Someone wrote a script, presumably it was approved by a host of people including showrunner Lorne Michaels, a makeup artist painted his face … a lot of people had to be involved to get Fallon out on that stage in blackface.

He of course could have refused, and should have. But to compare Fallon taking part in a tasteless sketch in the year 2000 and Kelly arguing blackface was appropriate in 2018 is tough to do. They’re just entirely different situations.

Fallon hasn’t tried the Chris Rock impression since, has he?

Unfortunately, he sure has! He wasn’t wearing blackface, but he tried it out while hosting the Golden Globes. It … did not go over super well then.

Well, now I understand this. I think. Thanks?

Can we understand anything now?

As a child, Russell Westbrook blew off Michael Jordan at his camp

Rockets star Russell Westbrook shared his Michael Jordan story with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday in a virtual edition of “The Tonight Show.”

In an appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook shared a funny childhood story that involved him blowing off Hall of Famer Michael Jordan.

Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls are back in the spotlight given ESPN’s 10-part “The Last Dance” documentary, and Westbrook told Fallon about his experience attending one of Jordan’s basketball camps as a child.

“The first time I had an opportunity to meet Michael Jordan… I probably was about 10 or 11 [years old],” Westbrook recalled. “I went to a Michael Jordan camp. My parents sent me to his camp in Santa Barbara.”

In a new interview with Fallon on Tuesday night, the now 31-year-old Westbrook continued:

At the end of the camp, usually every kid on every team brings something for Michael Jordan to sign. You need to stand in line and be ready to go. When my team was up to get a basketball signed — my parents gave me a ball to get signed — when it was my team and my time to go, I was in the middle of a game. I was playing pickup with other kids.

My coach was like come on, come on, you’re going to miss the opportunity to get a picture with Michael Jordan. and an autograph with him. Myself, I said ‘Don’t worry, I’m okay, I don’t need it right now.’ So I didn’t get a pic with Michael Jordan, didn’t get an autograph. I literally didn’t get in line. I just kept playing basketball, kept hooping.

When camp was over and I got home, my mom and dad were like, ‘Did you get the ball signed?’ I literally was like, ‘No, I was playing in a pickup game.’ At the time, it didn’t click to me.

Fortunately, Westbrook’s excellence on the basketball court eventually led to him meeting Jordan and even forming a partnership of sorts.

Today, the nine-time NBA All-Star and 2017 MVP has a long-term endorsement contract with the Jordan Brand.

The complete interview, which also touches on Westbrook’s numerous coronavirus (COVID-19) relief initiatives, can be viewed here.

It sure seems like Jimmy Fallon had Rory McIlroy and Jim Furyk slip a funny line into interviews

He likes big putts, and he cannot lie.

With The Players Championship set to tee off this week at TPC Sawgrass, Tuesday’s media availability had a more laid-back atmosphere for the top golfers at the tournament.

It probably also presented an opportunity for Jimmy Fallon to pull off one of his signature pranks.

During last year’s NBA All-Star weekend, Fallon had Steph Curry slip random, funny phrases into his media interviews. He did the same prank that summer with the MLB All-Star Game. The same thing also happened with Tiger Woods.

Given that The Players Championship will air on the same network (NBC) as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, it would make plenty of sense for Fallon to give the prank a go with the golfers again. And it sure seemed like Rory McIlroy and Jim Furyk were up to the task.

Furyk, while speaking of Brooks Koepka, said that Brooks “likes big putts. Cannot lie.” OK, that was funny.

But when McIlroy dropped in the same line during his press conference, this had Fallon’s mark all over it.

That can’t be a coincidence.

I guess we’ll find out soon if this was a prank, but all signs are pointing to Fallon.

Other celebrities have had their …

Other celebrities have had their privileges revoked by Dolan. A source told the Daily News that another director and longtime Garden presence, Woody Allen, was banned several years ago from Suite 200, which is a VIP club at MSG. Allen’s crime was refusing to do promotions for MSG, according to a source. If Allen still attends Knicks games, he’s no longer being showed on the MSG Network telecast. Actor Ethan Hawke said he stopped receiving free tickets because he criticized the Knicks’ handling of Jeremy Lin on “The Jimmy Fallon Show.” Actor Michael Rapaport also said his comped tickets were stripped because he supported Oakley.

Did Julian Edelman give away Tom Brady’s football future?

Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and Jimmy Fallon had courtside seats Saturday for North Carolina-Syracuse.

Ahh, the lives of entertainers and athletes. They can be found almost anywhere and everywhere. Even in Syracuse on Feb. 29.

Syracuse faced North Carolina in an ACC game on Saturday and there was an impressive trio in attendance: New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and WR Julian Edelman were with late-night NBC host Jimmy Fallon.

Edelman seemed to enjoy himself, too, mouthing to the camera the impending free-agent quarterback wasn’t leaving New England. “He’s coming back” the former Super Bowl MVP wideout appears to be saying.

Legendary Orange coach Jim Boeheim shook hands with the G.O.A.T. at the Carrier Dome.

Brady is friends with Adam Weitsman, the owner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Upstate Shredding-Weitsman Recycling in Central New York, and was invited to the Carrier Dome and brought Fallon and Edelman with him.
