Former Washington QB Sam Huard enters transfer portal

Former five-star recruit and one-time Washington quarterback Sam Huard is in the transfer portal.

Former Washington Huskies quarterback Sam Huard has entered the transfer portal for the second time. Huard, the son of former UW quarterback Damon and nephew of former Washington and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard, transferred to Cal Poly University in January 2023 after spending two seasons on Montlake.

Huard’s role with the Huskies was primarily as a backup, as the one-time five-star recruit played in five games during his career, starting 1, with 24 completions for 265 yards and one touchdown.

His best game came in his one start in the 2021 Apple Cup against Washington State, where he threw for 190 yards and a touchdown, which Rome Odunze reeled in with a spectacular, one-handed grab. However, he also threw 4 interceptions in the loss.

Huard competed for the starting job against Michael Penix Jr. and Dylan Morris before the 2022 season, losing the spot to the 2023 Heisman Trophy runner up and remained a backup for the year. He entered the transfer portal following the year and followed his high school head coach Sheldon Cross to Cal Poly.

During his time with the Mustangs, he started nine games and threw for 2,247 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
