Report: Saints may ‘want to hear’ what Deion Sanders has to say

Could Prime Time come to New Orleans? ESPN listed the Saints among NFL teams that may want to hear what Deion Sanders has to say:

Could Deion Sanders return to the NFL as head coach of the New Orleans Saints? Crazier things have happened, but Sanders leaving the Colorado Buffaloes and continuing to coach his son would be an unprecedented move. Shedeur Sanders is a top-flight quarterback prospect who has also been linked to the Saints in evened days.

But if we’re evaluating the elder Sanders’ candidacy on its own merits, there’s a lot to like. He went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player. As a college coach, he dominated the competition at Jackson State before moving to Colorado, where he’s gone 13-11 with nine wins in 2024. A jump to the NFL wouldn’t be shocking.

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Saints are one of the teams that may be on his radar:

A few weeks ago, we broke down Deion Sanders’ NFL outlook. I’m bumping this again because a league source told me this about Sanders in recent days: “I think [NFL] teams will want to hear what he has to say.” So it wouldn’t shock to see the Jets or Saints or a team casting a wide net to at least reach out or do its research on him.

Now, that’s highly speculative, and it’s hardly the same as saying Sanders already plans on leaving Boulder for New Orleans. And just because there may be some interest it doesn’t mean that would be a two-way street. At this point Sanders should be busy recruiting and reloading his roster after a solid season ended with a Heisman Trophy in his protege Travis Hunter’s hands.

But the Saints need a coach after firing Dennis Allen, and they may need a quarterback if their next decision-maker doesn’t plan on staying the course with Derek Carr. The Saints could have a shot at filling both vacancies with Sanders family stars if they hold onto a top-10 draft pick. But there are three weeks left in the regular season, and things could change rapidly. Stay tuned in case the clock in New Orleans reads Prime Time.

Why Mike McDaniel ‘couldn’t be happier’ about Jalen Ramsey’s rough game

Mike McDaniel isn’t worried about Jalen Ramsey’s tough day vs. the Jets and he’s excited about what it means for the team moving forward.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey didn’t have his finest performance against the New York Jets in Week 14.

While opponents are typically wary about testing the seven-time Pro Bowler, the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers threw the cornerback’s direction eight times Sunday, per PFF, for six completions and 146 yards. It was the most yards allowed by Ramsey in a game since he joined the Dolphins in 2023.

Head coach Mike McDaniel says those numbers deserve some context, though.

“When you have an asset such as Jalen Ramsey is you can lean on his talents in very aggressive ways and sometimes kind of give all help to all others – not just safeties, but body position of underneath coverage,” McDaniel said Wednesday. “There’s certain times that I think he believes, and we believe, that the defense is best served when he’s on an island.”

And even though Ramsey wasn’t able to lockdown Garrett Wilson on an island, McDaniel isn’t worried about the cornerback’s play heading into a matchup against Nico Collins and Tank Dell of the Houston Texans. In fact, he’s pretty excited about it.

“I couldn’t be happier that one of our top competitors on this team was challenged because I just know how he responds,” McDaniel said. “I thought he had some of his best technique within that game. He’s a very prideful dude that is one of those guys that takes everything personal on the football field in a good way. So I know we’re going to get the best version of Jalen Ramsey versus the Texans.”

A strong showing from Ramsey would go a long way toward the Dolphins getting another win Sunday. Houston is 4-0 in games when Collins eclipses 100 receiving yards and lost three of five games when he was out of action with a hamstring injury.

If Ramsey and the rest of the Dolphins secondary can’t contain the fourth-year receiver, it could be another long day for the Miami defense. McDaniel evidently doesn’t believe Ramsey would allow that to happen twice.

Kendall Fuller: Dolphins secondary ‘need to get things fixed’

Despite having a fully healthy secondary, the Dolphins defense still allowed the Jets pass game to find success.

Dolphins cornerback Kendall Fuller returned to the field Sunday after missing three games with a concussion. The Dolphins finally had a fully healthy cornerback lineup with starters Fuller, Jalen Ramsey, and Kader Kohou all in action.

However, despite having their ideal lineup the Dolphins secondary struggled to contain the Jets wide receiver duo of Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams.

Wilson recorded 114 yards on seven receptions, while Adams recorded nine receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers passed for over 300 yards for the first time since 2021.

“Kader has been in the league three years, me and Jalen both nine years, there’s days where you look at the film and you’re like, ‘Dang, we could have been better,'” Fuller said. “You don’t necessarily reconcile it. When you leave the game, you know you could’ve done better.

“It always feels good to correct things and know that you need to get things fixed after a win. I mean after the game, we just know different things that we’ve got to work on, get better to be better for next Sunday.”

The Dolphins needed a clutch fourth quarter and overtime performance from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami offense to grind out the victory. The saving grace for the Dolphins defense was that it did enough when backed up in its own territory to force a few field goals instead of touchdowns.

Miami’s upcoming matchup presents another challenge for the secondary with the Houston Texans’ wide receiver duo of Nico Collins and Tank Dell.

Fuller, along with the rest of the Dolphins secondary will have to do a better job shutting down the passing game led by second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud. Otherwise, Tagovailoa will have to continue to play nearly perfect football to keep the Dolphins playoff hopes alive.

Dolphins’ win vs. Jets was first 32-26 game in NFL history

Scorigami!

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets combined for “Scorigami” on Sunday.

With an overtime touchdown, the Dolphins escaped a tight Week 14 battle with a 32-26 win. That’s the first time in NFL history that a team has won a game by that exact score.

Scorigami is a concept created by Jon Bois, a sports content producer at SB Nation. It tracks every unique final score to ever happen and the many combinations of scores that haven’t yet occurred. The Dolphins’ win is the fifth Scorigami of the 2024 NFL season. The last was the Detroit Lions’ 52-6 blowout of the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11.

The Dolphins are no strangers to Scorigami. Last year, they led all teams with three final scores that had never happened before. Miami was on the right side of two of them: a 70-20 win against the Denver Broncos and a 45-15 win against the Washington Commanders. But the Dolphins were on the losing end of the last Scorigami of the 2023 season: a 56-19 win for the Baltimore Ravens on New Year’s Eve.

Dolphins player of the game, Week 14: QB Tua Tagovailoa

Tua Tagovailoa saved the day for the Dolphins with his third straight 300-yard performance.

Tua Tagovailoa put together another excellent performance in the Miami Dolphins’ 32-26 overtime victory against the New York Jets.

Tagovailoa completed 33 of his 47 passes (70.2 percent) for 331 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winner to Jonnu Smith in overtime. Tagovailoa put his stamp on the game in the fourth quarter and overtime by efficiently leading the Dolphins offense on three clutch drives.

With Miami down 23-15 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Tagovailoa converted a key third down by connecting with Tyreek Hill for an 18-yard gain to set them up in New York territory. Six plays later, Tagovailoa and Hill connected again for a touchdown from four yards out on a fourth down.

Tagovailoa followed that up by finding Jaylen Waddle on a two-point conversion to tie the game, 23-23.

When the Jets recaptured the lead late in regulation on a 42-yard Anders Carlson field goal with under a minute to go, the spotlight was on Tagovailoa to come through on a closing drive.

After a 45-yard kick return by Malik Washington, the Dolphins offense had 44 seconds to get themselves into field goal range. Tagovailoa completed two passes to Hill and Waddle to set up Sanders for a 52-yard game-tying field goal that he drilled to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Dolphins got the ball first and marched down the field for the game-winning touchdown. Jonnu Smith made his first impact on the game on two consecutive screen plays resulting for 20 and 14 yards to set the Dolphins up in New York territory. Just a few plays later, Tagovailoa connected with Smith once again for the game-winner.

The Dolphins were faced with adversity during this contest by a Jets offense that had its best showing. Aaron Rodgers recorded his first 300-yard game of the season, and wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams both topped 100 yards.

But Tagovailoa saved the day with his third straight 300-yard, multiple touchdown, interception-free game. He’s been in complete command of the offense and looks determined to keep the Dolphins alive in their playoff push. If Tagovailoa continues to play at this level, the Dolphins have an excellent chance to run the table and make things interesting.

Raheem Mostert, 5 other Dolphins inactive for Week 14 vs. Jets

The Dolphins ruled out veterans Raheem Mostert and River Cracraft against the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins officially ruled out running back Raheem Mostert, along with five other players for a Week 14 game against the New York Jets.

Mostert was listed as questionable for the contest with a hip injury, but reports earlier Sunday indicated he wasn’t going to be able to play. But Mostert was one of four Dolphins players who entered game day as questionable and the other three — offensive tackle Terron Armstead, cornerback Kader Kohou, and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. — are all active and in the lineup.

Instead, it’s veteran wide receiver River Cracraft who is the relatively surprising active scratch for Miami.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team:

Dolphins inactives

  • QB Skylar Thompson (3rd QB)
  • CB Ethan Bonner
  • RB Raheem Mostert
  • OL Andrew Meyer
  • TE Jack Stoll
  • WR River Cracraft

Jets inactives

Dolphins vs. Jets broadcast map: Where will the game be on TV?

Kevin Harlan and Trent Green will be on the call Sunday when the Dolphins take on the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins are looking to get back on the path to a possible postseason berth after a Thanksgiving setback. Following their loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Dolphins are set to host the New York Jets for the first of two matchups between the AFC East rivals.

The Dolphins enter the Week 14 matchup with a 5-7 record and have work to do to catch up with the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, or Denver Broncos, who all have eight wins. The Jets come to Hard Rock Stadium on a three-game losing streak that dropped the team to 3-9 on the year.

Coverage will be provided by CBS and in-market fans can stream the Dolphins’ Week 14 game on fuboTV or Paramount Plus. Kevin Harlan will be on play-by-play coverage in the booth with Trent Green providing analysis.

Fans in the green area on the map below will have the Dolphins vs. Jets game on their local CBS station at 1 p.m. ET. Via 506sports.com:

Those who aren’t in an area highlighted green will need NFL Sunday Ticket, now offered by YouTube, to watch the Dolphins as an out-of-market game.

Mike McDaniel ‘optimistic’ 5 injured Dolphins will play in Week 14

The Dolphins may have a pretty healthy lineup Sunday against the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins had a positive injury report Thursday with only one player absent from their session, and head coach Mike McDaniel provided even more good news at his Friday press conference.

According to McDaniel, he expects very few of the team’s injured players to be unavailable Sunday against the New York Jets. He’s feeling good about the likelihood that cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Kader Kohou, offensive linemen Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm, and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. are all ready to go in Week 14.

“Hopeful that he’ll be through [the concussion protocol] this afternoon,” McDaniel said of Fuller. “So we’ll wait and see on that.”

“I’m optimistic about both [Kohou and Walker],” McDaniel said. “But that’s assuming there’s no setbacks and how they feel after [practice], but it’s been positive for them this week.”

“We’ll make sure that he’s feeling good and I’m not going to put him out there if he’s not capable, but I feel optimistic about it,” McDaniel said of Armstead.

“Kendall Lamm has had a good week in terms of getting his body right,” McDaniel said. “I feel optimistic about him too.”

The Dolphins were without both Fuller and Walker during their Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, and both Kohou and Lamm exited early with injuries. Armstead has been consistently absent from practices, but has played through his knee injury on a weekly basis.

Only one Dolphins player sits out Thursday practice

All but one Dolphins player were on the practice field Thursday.

The Miami Dolphins had one of their healthiest practices in a long time Thursday with all but one player participating Thursday.

Only left tackle Terron Armstead, who has missed a long string of practices due to a knee injury, was absent. Despite his lack of practice time and frequent questionable status, Armstead has played through the injury in recent weeks.

Miami did, however, have nine players were limited participants, including wide receiver Tyreek Hill and pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

Thursday participation

DNP

  • OT Terron Armstead (knee)

Limited

  • LB Bradley Chubb (knee)
  • LB Cameron Goode (knee)
  • WR Tyreek Hill (wrist/rest)
  • DT Benito Jones (shoulder/back)
  • CB Kader Kohou (back)
  • OT Kendall Lamm (back/elbow)
  • RB Raheem Mostert (hip)
  • LB Anthony Walker Jr. (hamstring)
  • G Isaiah Wynn (quad/knee)

Full

  • LS Blake Ferguson (non-football illness)
  • CB Kendall Fuller (concussion)
  • FB Alec Ingold (calf)
  • S Jordan Poyer (rest/finger)

Calais Campbell, who was listed Wednesday as a non-participant for rest, was removed from the report altogether Thursday.

Full participation for Fuller is a positive development for the Dolphins, as the cornerback appears set to clear concussion protocol and make his return to the starting lineup after three games on the sideline. The return of Walker, who missed last week, to the practice field is another good sign for Miami.
