Two wide receiver decommits gives Penn State more options

Could Penn State get a second chance at a couple of wide receiver targets in the Class of 2025?

The conversation about Penn State and their wide receiver situation is not going to end anytime soon as long as there remains major questions surrounding the viability of that room.

Entering the upcoming season, they need established players on the team to step up and prevent what happened last year from occurring again.

Going forward, there will be a lot of attention paid to how the Nittany Lions recruit and develop the position.

With that established, it should come as no surprise that [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] and wide receiver coach [autotag]Marques Hagans[/autotag] are targeting multiple top-end recruits in the class of 2025.

As of now, there is only one commit in the class.

It’s still early, but things would become a lot more comfortable if Penn State was able to start landing some of the targets on their board.

There was a positive update for the Nittany Lions as two of their past targets in the class decommitted from schools and have reopened their recruiting process.

Tyler Calvaruso of 247Sports reports [autotag]Adrian Wilson[/autotag] has backed out his Oregon commitment and [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag] decommitted from Ohio State. The insider said Penn State maintained their relationships with both players even following their original pledges, but locking them into a commitment won’t be easy (subscription required).

Wilson is a 6’0″, 170-pound prospect from the state of Texas who is rated as a four-star and the No. 16 overall wide receiver in the 2025 class. It will be seen if they can get him in for a visit after failing to get him to campus during the fall.

Boggs has a similar profile, listed at 6’0″ tall and 188 pounds. The Florida native is also a four-star in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings and is listed as the No. 24 player at his position.

The Nittany Lions have been going after wide receivers heavily in this cycle and these decommitments give them more options to pursue throughout spring and summer.

Ohio State football loses 2025 wide receiver commit

Unfortunate news for the Buckeyes. #GoBucks

The saying with Florida recruits is pretty simple, you have to recruit them until they sign, and Ohio State football is feeling that on Tuesday night.

The Buckeyes lived through the Jeremiah Smith back-and-forth during the early signing period, and it won’t get there with [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 188-pound receiver has decommitted from Ohio State, leaving the Buckeyes without a current commit at the position in the 2025 class.

Boggs was the second verbal that the Buckeyes took, but we’ll never get a chance to see him suit up for the Scarlet and Gray it appears. The reason is currently unknown as to why the change of heart for the receiver.

One could postulate that due to Ohio State continuing to go after receivers that are ranked higher might be the reason. Regardless, it’s still a blow to the Buckeyes 2025 class.

Florida among teams still pushing for this 4-star Ohio State WR commit

Florida is staying close with four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs, despite a strong verbal commitment to Ohio State.

Billy Napier has flipped a few recruits as the head coach of the Florida Gators, and one of the program’s current targets is four-star Ohio State wide receiver commit Jayvan Boggs, according to 247Sports.

Boggs pledged his services to the Buckeyes back in October, and he says he’s still happy with that decision. Still, certain teams are still knocking on that door often, and Florida is one of them.

“Still locked in with (Ohio State) very good,” Boggs said to 247Sports. “Other schools are trying to come in and push like Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame. A lot of schools hitting me up trying to get me to them.”

Wide receivers coach Billy Gonzalez has been his main point of contact. Gonzalez checks in regularly with Boggs. The goal is to get him on campus this spring, but Boggs is already planning to go to Ohio State’s spring game on the same day as Florida.

Even if the Gators can’t get him back on campus during the spring, an official visit during the summer appears likely. Boggs listed Florida, Ohio State and UCF as the top schools he wants to attend.

Boggs is a four-star recruit everywhere but the Top247 on 247Sports. He’s ranked No. 212 overall and No. 26 among wide receivers from the class of 2025, according to the On3 industry ranking, which considered all four major services.

Multiple programs trying to flip Ohio State 2025 wide receiver commit

This recruitment could go down to the wire. #GoBucks

Many were surprised when Ohio State football took a commitment from a wide receiver that wasn’t highly ranked, considering the amount of talent that is in the room.

Well, fast forward to the end of February, and you now see why the Buckeyes accepted the verbal of Florida receiver [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 188-pound pass catcher won his state’s Mr. Football player of the year after accounting for 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns.

It was not surprising to see Boggs’ recruiting rankings rise. He began as the No. 362 overall player in the 247Sports composite but has risen to No. 195 in the most recent update.

On Tuesday, two schools, Georgia and Notre Dame, offered Boggs a scholarship, but only one is a legit contender to flip him from the Buckeyes. The Bulldogs, according to this report by 247Sports Steve Wiltfong (subscription required), are the team to watch out for. Boggs told him he still has to “build (a) relationship with them but looking forward” to doing so with their staff.

The good news from the report is Boggs also said he’s “still very confident and locked in with Ohio State!” This is still a recruitment to monitor, as with most Florida prospects, a verbal is just who is on top of their recruitment until they actually sign with a school.

What to expect from newest Ohio State commit, 2025 WR, Jayvan Boggs

WRU is getting another top prospect #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] received a surprise commitment on Monday morning, one it will gladly take.

Florida wide receiver, [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag], a 2025 prospect, made his commitment to the Buckeyes, giving them a second verbal in the class along with quarterback Tavien St. Clair.

The 6-foot, 188-pound pass catcher is ranked 50th at his position and 368th nationally on the 247Sports composite.

If offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] believes in Boggs ability, that should be enough of a selling point. After watching his junior and sophomore highlights it’s easy to see why the Buckeyes went hard after him. Find out what I saw from watching Boggs film below.

In-state WR planning gameday visit after picking offer from Florida

Florida is targeting this in-state wide receiver from the class of 2025, and he should be in town for a gameday visit next month.

One of the in-state wide receivers on Florida’s 2025 recruiting board is [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag], and the Cocoa High pass catcher is planning on getting a closer look at the Swamp in September, according to Gators Online.

Boggs, who is ranked No. 58 among receivers in his class by On3, picked up a scholarship offer from the Gators in July for the Grill in the Ville cookout. August 1 marked the first day that coaches could reach out to Boggs’ class, and he says it’s been all love between him and Florida since then.

Of course, a handful of other Power Five programs are pushing just as hard for Boggs. Louisville, Ohio State, Penn State and UCF are a few that he named, but the list will only grow as the 2025 cycle gets more serious.

Boggs denied a top two of Florida and Ohio State but admitted that both schools were “leading the way” in his recruitment. Right now, the Gators are favored to land him by the On3 recruiting prediction machine, which gives UF 41.7% odds to sign him.

Of the four major recruiting services, only On3 has graded Boggs, which means there are no composite rankings to rely on.

Florida near the top for this class of 2025 wide receiver

Florida’s early efforts with 2025 wide receiver Jayvan Boggs are paying off, and he’s planning a return visit later this month.

The Florida Gators offered Cocoa High (Florida) wide receiver [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag] back in June and is one of three teams standing out for the class of 2025 pass catcher a month later, according to Gators Online.

“There’s really no favorite right now but Penn State, Ohio State and Florida lead the way for me,” Boggs said. “It’s very close between them three schools.”

Florida has kept in contact with Boggs since offering, with assistant coaches checking in at least weekly. He’s planning to return at the end of the month for the Gators’ Grill in the Ville cookout.

Despite the Division I interest Boggs has garnered, he doesn’t have a grade on any of the four major recruiting services. He’s only a rising junior, though, which means he has at least 17 more months until he can sign a letter of intent.

Plenty could change over those 17 months, including his top three and star ratings.

In-state 2025 wide receiver has Florida among top 2 schools, sets return visit

Gators make the final two for this in-state wide receiver target who plans a return visit this month.

The primary focus last month for Florida’s football recruiting efforts was on hosting members of the 2024 class making their official visits to Gainesville before the July quiet period kicked in. However, Billy Napier and Co. also put some time into cultivating the next class at their Friday Night Lights event to wrap up the month.

Among those in attendance was unranked 2025 wide receiver [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag] out of Cocoa (Florida) who made his first trip to the university’s campus after making contact with the staff prior. The 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pound pass-catcher made the most of his first face-to-face meeting with the Orange and Blue, earning an offer for his efforts while also getting a deeper look at what the Swamp has in store for him.

“It was good,” Boggs told Swamp247 in regards to the visit. “Getting to compete and have some fun on the campus. Getting to learn from their good coaching they had for me. I didn’t get to see all of the facilities and stuff like that, because it was more of a camp than a visit. I got to hang out with them though, and loved talking with Coach (Billy) Napier and Coach (Billy) Gonzales, and Coach (Joe) Hamilton and the others on the staff. It was nice.”

As a result, the rising high school junior has Florida among his top two preferred schools midway through the summer months.

“I could say they are in my top two right now,” he also told Swamp247. “No lie, they are top two right now. I would say it’s Florida and Ohio State right now. They both are building wideouts historically. Ohio State has made a lot of great receivers, and Florida has done it in the past. Florida… and Ohio State is up there too. Florida is in the best conference in college football and they have been developing.”

The in-state wideout plans to make his second visit later this month for the program’s Grill in the Ville recruiting event on July 29, which will give him even more time with the staff as he continues to assess his suitors.

Boggs is currently unranked according to the 247Sports composite and the On3 industry ranking. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Florida holding a narrow edge over Ohio State for his commitment, 43.8% vs. 38.3%, respectively.

Ohio State left a positive impression on 2025 wide receiver

The wide receiver pipeline isn’t slowing down anytime soon #GoBucks

There is an extremely valid argument for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] being named Wide Receiver U.

Multiple first round NFL selections with big time production at the next level, and more on the way (see Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka). Just that alone will get recruits attention, and even more, when they call Ohio State their dream school.

That’s exactly what’s happening with Florida’s [autotag]Jayvan Boggs[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 175 pound receiver was offered by the Buckeyes earlier this month, and according to the Silver Bulletin, Boggs was impressed with a multitude of factors that Ohio State has to offer at the next level.

Boggs has yet to be ranked but expect that to change once the 2025 class has a rankings update. The connection that he has made early with the Buckeyes could pay dividends down the road.
