The Houston Texans continue to comb through available talent to see where they may be able to add depth.

According to a league source, the Texans worked out defensive tackle Tyeler Davison and tackle Jaylon Thomas.

Davison previously was with the Los Angeles Chagers, where he played six games in 2022 and collected a tackle. The former New Orleans Saints 2015 fifth-round pick played 61 games for the Saints through 2018, collecting 95 tackles and 3.5 sacks. From 2019-21, Davison was with the Atlanta Falcons, generating 121 tackles and 1.5 sacks through 44 games.

Five players to watch ahead of Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State

Will the Aggies’ secure bowl eligibility? Here are five players to watch out for ahead of Texas A&M’s home bout with Mississippi State.

Texas A&M’s (5-4, 3-3 SEC) 2023 football season has been underwhelming, to say the least, as sixth-year head coach Jimbo Fisher has once again landed on the evergrowing “hot seat” list as his future at the helm is still somewhat unknown with three games remaining.

After falling to Ole Miss 38-35 last Saturday, Texas A&M has dropped five straight to the Rebels and the Aggies’ upcoming opponent, Mississippi State (4-5, 1-5 SEC). Yes, this is very ugly on its face, but a chance to beat the Bulldogs for the first time in two seasons will at least place a much-needed bandage in the form of bowl eligibility.

This will be the Aggies’ first primetime kick-off of the season, and at this point, it may not mean that much to those watching from home, but for Aggie fans attending the game, expect a raucous crowd with plenty of implications still on the line. While the Bulldogs have dealt with plenty of adversity, quarterback Will Rogers is still listed as day-to-day but is 2-1 against A&M, including three touchdowns in their 2022 meeting.

This week, we have provided several storylines to help provide the full scoop on what to expect on Saturday night.

Focusing on the players that need to make plays this weekend, here are the five players to watch ahead of Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State.

Giants sign Tommy DeVito to active roster, Matt Barkley to practice squad

The New York Giants have added QB Tommy DeVito to their active roster and QB Matt Barkley to their practice squad, plus other transactions.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones may be cleared for contact and returning to practice on Wednesday, but the team still has issues at the position.

Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor is considered “week-to-week” after suffering a severe rib cage injury during a Week 8 loss to the New York Jets. He has yet to be placed on injured reserve (IR) but will not be available this Sunday.

Accordingly, the Giants have signed rookie Tommy DeVito from their practice squad. He will now serve as Jones’ backup.

DeVito, who had been elevated for the maximum three games this season, went 2-of-7 for -1 yard passing in relief of Taylor last week.

Taking DeVito’s spot on the practice squad is Matt Barkley, the former Buffalo Bills quarterback who worked out for the Giants earlier this month.

The 33-year-old Barkley was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL draft. He quickly became a journeyman, making stops with nine different teams over his 11-year career, including two stints with the aforementioned Bills.

The Giants also released center Jaylon Thomas from their practice squad and signed wide receiver/return specialist Gunner Olszewski to replace him.

Olszewski was signed to the Giants’ 53-man roster before their game against the Jets and served as their punt returner, averaging 9.3 yards per return. He had his contract terminated after the game but general manager Joe Schoen always intended to bring him back.

Olszewski will almost certainly be elevated ahead of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Giants elevate Jaylon Thomas, Jalen Mayfield from practice squad

The New York Giants have elevated offensive linemen Jaylon Thomas and Jalen Mayfield from their practice squad.

The New York Giants will be without offensive linemen Andrew Thomas, John Michael Schmitz and Shane Lemieux on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

With Evan Neal also dealing with some minor injuries, the Giants were forced to elevate a pair of potential reserves ahead of the Week 5 game: Jaylon Thomas and Jalen Mayfield.

The 6-foot-3, 311-pound Thomas was initially signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of SMU back in May. He was waived as a part of final cuts and promptly signed to the Giants’ practice.

Thomas was previously elevated in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Mayfield was a third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2021 NFL draft. He was released in August after missing the 2022 regular season due to injury and joined the Giants’ practice squad a few days later.

For Mayfield, this is his first elevation of the season.

Giants elevate OL Jaylon Thomas from practice squad

The New York Giants have elevated rookie OL Jaylon Thomas from their practice squad ahead of a Week 3 game against the 49ers.

The New York Giants have elevated offensive lineman Jaylon Thomas from their practice squad ahead of a Week 3 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night.

Thomas’ activation comes after left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and guard Ben Bredeson (concussion) were ruled out for the game.

The 6-foot-3, 311-pound Thomas was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2023 NFL draft. He was released as a part of final cuts in August and signed to the Giants’ practice squad following a workout on September 1.

In college at SMU, Thomas played all five positions across the line and spent the summer at center for the Ravens.

Thomas was not elevated in either of the first two weeks of the season. This is his first elevation and he has two remaining this season.

Following Thursday night’s game in Santa Clara, Thomas will revert back to the Giants’ practice squad.

Giants shuffle practice squad after 15-player workout

The New York Giants made six practice squad transactions following a massive 15-player workout on Thursday.

The New York Giants made several changes to their practice squad on Thursday evening, officially adding six players while releasing two others.

Offensive tackle Tyre Phillips and cornerback Gemon Green had their practice squad contracts terminated, effectively giving the Giants six open spots.

Those spots were filled by the additions of running back Taiwan Jones, cornerback Kaleb Hayes, wide receiver Dennis Houston, tight end Tyree Jackson, guard Jalen Mayfield, and tackle Jaylon Thomas.

The 35-year-old Jones, a 2011 fourth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, provides the most NFL experience of the group.

Jones has appeared in 137 career games, playing primarily on special teams. He has a history of returning kickoffs and could be an intriguing potential option for Thomas McGaughey down the line.

Mayfield, a former third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, is also an interesting addition. He started all 16 games at left guard in 2021 but missed last season with a lower back injury.

The roster shuffle came after the Giants hosted 15 free agents for workouts in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday.

The 15 players who worked out were Thomas, Jones, cornerbacks Kalon Barnes and D’Angelo Mandell, linebackers Milo Eifler, Aaron Patrick and Ulysees Gilbert, wide receivers T.J. Luther, Reggie Roberson, Josh Vann and Dezmon Patton, edge rusher Jeremiah Martin, quarterback Adrian Martinez, offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, and safety Mark Webb.

Ravens’ roster bubble: Each undrafted free agents chances of making 53-man roster

Baltimore #Ravens roster bubble: We’re looking at each undrafted free agents chances of making 53-man roster via @Thacover2NFL

After April’s NFL draft, Baltimore added 18 undrafted free agents to the roster.

With one week of the preseason remaining, the Ravens currently have 14 undrafted free agents on the roster, with three or four who’ve made highlight plays, and have a solid chance to make the 53-man roster.

After two joint practices earlier last week, the Ravens and Commanders will close out the second week of the NFL preseason with an intriguing matchup at FedEx Field.

Monday night’s contest could be a physical, hard-hitting affair after the practice sessions were marred by Washington rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes and Baltimore wide receiver Tylan Wallace exchanging punches.

With kickoff now five hours away, we’re looking at which undrafted free agents have the best shot at making the 53-man roster.
