Two new Ravens players absent from final day of mandatory minicamp

Two new Ravens players were absent from the final day of Baltimore Ravens minicamp

The Baltimore Ravens wrapped up mandatory minicamp on Thursday, concluding three days worth of practices. The team was able to get valuable time in with each other and work on some of the nuances that will come in handy over the course of the 2022 regular season.

There were a handful of players that missed one or both of the first two days of minicamp while recovering from injuries or other personal reasons. However, on Day 3 there were two new Ravens not practicing in tight end Nick Boyle and outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson. Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh gave updates on both players, and also shared some news on quarterback Tyler Huntley.

“A couple little things you might be looking at from practice: ‘Snoop’ [Tyler Huntley] has a little tendinitis in his shoulder from all the throws, so we just gave him rest the last two days [for] that, so he’ll be fine. Jaylon [Ferguson] had an ankle sprain from yesterday – you saw that – so that’s why we held him out. And Nick Boyle just had the day off; it was in his rotation…”

As Harbaugh said, Ferguson suffered an ankle sprain during practice on Wednesday, so his absence seemed to be a precautionary one. The same can be said for Huntley, who has been given rest days due to the tendinitis that he has in his shoulder. Boyle’s off day was scheduled as he continues injury management for his knee.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 13 matchup vs. Steelers

The Ravens released their inactives list for their matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13

The Baltimore Ravens have been going through injuries ever since before the 2021 NFL season began. Despite that, the team stands at 8-3 and are atop the entire AFC.

Ahead of their Week 13 matchup with the Steelers, Baltimore announced their inactives. Ravens tight end Nick Boyle is inactive today after playing the last few games.  He’s been battling some injuries after coming back from a gruesome knee injury in 2020. It would’ve been nice to have Boyle playing today to give the offensive line some help and to protect Lamar Jackson.

The secondary also needs to step up without cornerback Chris Westry playing, so players like cornerback Marlon Humphrey need to have good games. Cornerback Jimmy Smith coming back can certainly help overcome the loss of Westry.

It’s good to see that Smith as well as defensive lineman Calais Campbell are playing today after missing the last few games with injuries.  That will definitely help out the defense, which has been playing great lately.

The Steelers also announced their inactives, which features cornerback Joe Haden among others.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 7 matchup vs. Bengals

The Ravens announced their inactives for their Week 7 matchup against the Bengals

The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7 of the 2021 season. Baltimore comes into the contest as the first place team in the AFC North with a 5-1 record, while Cincinnati isn’t far behind as they sit in second place at 4-2.

On Sunday, the Ravens announced their list of inactives for the game, with a few big names headlining the list in running back Latavius Murray and wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Rounding out the inactives are defensive tackle Broderick Washington, outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson and safety Ar’Darius Washington.

Murray injured his ankle in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers and didn’t practice all week. Running backs Devonta Freeman, Le’Veon Bell, and Ty’Son Williams will pick up the production in his stead. Watkins hasn’t played since Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, and will be missed as a steady veteran presence on the field.

Washington, Ferguson and Washington were all inactives last week against the Chargers as well.

The Ravens announced their inactives for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in what should be a very exciting Week 6 matchup. The two teams enter the game at 4-1 and lead their respective divisions, and both will be hungry to pick up their fifth win of the 2021 season.

Before the contest, Baltimore announced their inactives list and there weren’t a ton of surprises. The team decided to make running back Ty’Son Williams a healthy scratch for the second time this season in favor of fellow rusher Le’Veon Bell, and both wide receiver Sammy Watkins and offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley will miss the game with injuries.

The Ravens have gotten used to not having Stanley on the field, but losing Watkins is a huge blow. However the team is getting reinforcements, as wide receiver Rashod Bateman is set to make his NFL debut and offensive lineman Tyre Phillips is back after missing the previous four games with a knee injury.

Other than Williams, defensive tackle Broderick Washington, outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, and safety Ar’Darius Washington seemingly round out the healthy scratches for Baltimore.

Ravens activate OLB Jaylon Ferguson from Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Ravens activated outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens have put together a strong start to the 2021 season, accumulating a 4-1 record despite dealing with a plethora of absences due to injuries and other reasons. One of the players forced to miss games is outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, who has been on the Reserve/COVID-19 list since Week 3.

On Wednesday, the team announced that they activated Ferguson from the Reserve/COVID-19 list and that he would begin to practice again ahead of the team’s Week 6 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ferguson was placed on the list leading up to the Ravens’ Week 3 matchup with the Detroit Lions. The third-year defensive end has missed team practices and three straight games since September 24th. In two games played this season, Ferguson has two combined tackles on 11 defensive snaps.

The Ravens have a tough matchup against Los Angeles on Sunday. The Chargers have averaged 108.4 rushing yards and 303 passing yards per game. Ferguson will give Baltimore an added defensive boost to get into the backfield of such an explosive offense.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives update on OLB Jaylon Ferguson

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave an update on OLB Jaylon Ferguson

The Baltimore Ravens have had plenty of players be unavailable for games this year for a multitude of different reasons. The majority of their absences have been injury related but a few have come as a result of the Coronavirus, as a few players had to be placed on the the Reserve/COVID-19 list just a few weeks ago.

One of the players who has been impacted by COVID is outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson. It was reported that he had actually tested positive for the virus, and as a result he and three of his teammates were unavailable for Baltimore’s Week 3 win over the Detroit Lions. While his teammates returned for Week 4, Ferguson did not, and he still has yet to be activated from the Reserve/COVID list.

When speaking to the media on Friday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave an update on Ferguson, saying that the third-year player is still experiencing symptoms.

Ferguson provides the Baltimore defense with valuable depth. He looked extremely strong in the preseason, and was hoping to build off of that momentum, but hasn’t had a lot of opportunity to with his absence. Hopefully he’s able to make a full recovery soon.

Ravens activate three players from Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Ravens activated three players off of the Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Baltimore Ravens’ front seven was stretched extremely thin during their Week 3 over the Detroit Lions, as the team had to place defensive linemen Brandon Williams and Justin Madubuike on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, as well as outside linebackers Justin Houston and Jaylon Ferguson. It was reported that Ferguson had tested positive for COVID-19, and it appears that Williams, Maubuike and Houston were most likely all close contacts in some way.

On Wednesday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported that the Ravens activated three players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list in Williams, Madubuike and Houston, giving Baltimore much needed reinforcements on their front seven.

As Zrebiec notes, all three players will be eligible to play in the Ravens’ Week 4 matchup with the Denver Broncos. Ferguson was the only player out of the four not activated, and unless he gets taken off of the list in the next few days, he might not be available for Sunday in Denver.

Ravens place four players on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Ravens placed four players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday

The Baltimore Ravens have been forced to play without a plethora of their key contributors so far during the 2021 season due to injuries. The team has lost multiple guys on both offense and defense to season-ending injuries, as well as having other players be held out of games due to less serious ailments. However, now another issue has popped up in Baltimore’s locker room with COVID-19.

On Friday, it was reported that outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson had tested positive for COVID and missed practice. The team then confirmed that Ferguson was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, as were three of his teammates.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic shed some light as to what it means in terms of a player’s vaccination status and whether they have tested positive or not when they are placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

With Ferguson, Houston, Williams and Madubuike all unavailable for Sunday against Detroit, Baltimore will be relying on Calais Campbell, Justin Ellis, Broderick Washington and potential practice squad call up Kahlil McKenzie on the interior of their defensive line while also needing players such as Tyus Bowser, Odafe Oweh, Pernell McPhee, Daelin Hayes and potential practices squad call up Chris Smith to step up rushing the passer.

Ravens OLB Jaylon Ferguson reportedly tests positive for COVID-19

Ravens outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson reportedly missed Friday’s practice after testing positive for COVID-19

The Baltimore Ravens have been dealing with a massive amount of injuries so far during the 2021 season. The team has seen players lost for the year, as well as some being out for multiple weeks as a result of their ailments. However, Baltimore now might be without one of their outside linebackers on Sunday, as Jaylon Ferguson tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, according to ESPN staff writer Jamison Hensley.

Baltimore is no stranger to COVID-19, as they were hit very hard by it last season, having to put around 20 players and coaches on the Reserve/COVID-19 list as it swept through their organization.

If Ferguson is fully vaccinated, he would need to have two negative COVID-19 tests 24 hours apart and be asymptomatic to return to the team, according to NFL’s COVID-19 protocols. If unvaccinated, Ferguson would need to quarantine for 10 days.

The Ravens are undergoing contact tracing and monitoring the situation. If a player is unvaccinated and determined to be a high-risk contact, he will need to sit out at least five days and would be eligible to return upon five consecutive negative tests. Fully vaccinated players would not be designated as high-risk close contacts, but can still be tested for the five consecutive days.

When asked about the COVID-19 situation, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh declined to comment.

“We haven’t put anybody on any COVID list at this point…I’m not allowed to comment on it past that.”

When Baltimore releases their final injury report of the week for their Week 3 matchup against the Detroit Lions, a better picture could be painted of who was deemed a close contact to Ferguson, if any.

Jaylon Ferguson details how much Ravens’ veterans have helped him grow

Jaylon Ferguson has benefited from the multiple talented veterans on the Ravens’ roster

The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of depth at outside linebacker this year, especially with the signing of Justin Houston. With the veteran’s arrival, it pushed third-year player Jaylon Ferguson to the roster bubble, as he hasn’t shown as much production as anticipated over his first two years in the NFL.

During his 2021 preseason action so far, Ferguson has stepped up to the plate and put his name right into the conversation for not only a roster spot, but a decently sized role on Baltimore’s defense. When asked about how learning from Justin Houston has impacted him, Ferguson pointed out a number of veterans who have helped him grow.

“…Between him, Pernell [McPhee], Tyus Bowser, even Calais Campbell – he helped me out – Derek Wolfe, especially, because he’s got the ferocity inside, but he’s still got all the moves … Just being with guys like that, I’m learning not to look at, so much, physical stuff, [but to look at] little keys, like which way they’re moving, which way they’re leaning, pre-snap stuff to help me. Before, I would just look at a player, just thinking that I can beat him by myself.”

Not only have the veterans helped Ferguson from a technical point of view, but also from a mentality standpoint. Houston, McPhee, Campbell, Wolfe and others have a plethora of valuable NFL experience that can help younger players like Ferguson flourish, and the third-year defender is seemingly taking advantage of the information and secrets that he’s been given by the veterans on the roster.
