Former Vol Jared Dickey hits first professional home run.

West Michigan defeated Quad Cities, 10-6, on Tuesday at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan.

Former Vol Jared Dickey started in right field for Quad Cities and went 2-for-4. Dickey hit his first professional career home run and recorded two RBIs, one run and five total bases.

Quad Cities competes in the Midwest League and is a High-A affiliate of the Royals.

Dickey played at Tennessee from 2021-23. He redshirted with the Vols in 2021.

Dickey appeared in 103 games, including 86 starts, at Tennessee. The former Vol recorded a .343 batting average, 19 home runs, 71 RBIs, 84 runs, 40 walks and 10 stolen bases.

He was selected by Kansas City in the 11th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft (No. 319 overall).

The MLB first-year player draft is being held in conjunction with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Tennessee redshirt sophomore outfielder and catcher Jared Dickey was selected by Kansas City in the 11th round with the No. 319 overall pick.

Dickey played at Tennessee from 2021-23. He redshirted with the Vols in 2021.

Dickey appeared in 103 games, including 86 starts, at Tennessee. The former Vol recorded a .343 batting average, 19 home runs, 71 RBIs, 84 runs, 40 walks and 10 stolen bases.

He is the fifth Vol to be selected in the 2023 MLB draft.

The 2023 Major League Baseball first-year player draft is taking place Sunday-Tuesday in Seattle, Washington.

The MLB first-year player draft is being held in conjunction with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Rounds 1-2 were held Sunday.

Tennessee junior pitcher Chase Dollander was selected in the first-round by Colorado with the No. 9 overall pick.

Rounds 3-10 will be held Monday beginning at 2 p.m. EDT and can be watched on MLB.com. Rounds 11-20 are slated for Tuesday (2 p.m. EDT, MLB.com).

Tennessee student-athlete Jared Dickey received second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors by the league’s coaches Monday.

Dickey, a redshirt sophomore, finished the regular-season ranked among the leaders in batting average and hits in conference games.

He appeared in 28 SEC games and recorded a .369 batting average, the third highest in the conference. Dickey tied for fifth with 41 hits.

Dickey enters the SEC Tournament with 12 home runs. He hit six home runs in SEC games. Dickey totaled 23 RBIs in league contests, the second most for Tennessee.

Dickey led the Vols in total bases in SEC games with 64.

Three Tennessee baseball players are ranked in the updated 2023 MLB Pipeline Top 150 Draft Prospects list.

The 2023 Major League Baseball first-year player draft will take place July 9-11 in Seattle, Washington.

The MLB first-year player draft will be held in conjunction with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on July 11.

Vols defeat Charleston Southern for seventh straight win

Tennessee baseball defeats Charleston Southern for seventh straight win.

No. 2 Tennessee (7-2) defeated Charleston Southern (3-5), 6-1, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The win is Tennessee’s seventh consecutive.

First baseman Blake Burke went 3-for-5, recording a two-run home run and five RBIs.

He hit a scoring single in the fourth inning and a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Jared Dickey went 2-for-4, recording two runs and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Charleston Southern scored its lone run of the contest on a solo home run by Casey Asman in the seventh inning.

Seth Halvorsen (1-0) pitched 2.2 of scoreless relief to earn the win for Tennessee. He allowed one hit and one run, while recording four strikeouts.

Zander Sechrist started and pitched 4.1 innings for the Vols. He allowed three hits and posted five strikeouts.

Kirby Connell and Aaron Combs each pitched one inning. Connell recorded one strikeout, while Combs had two.

Opening day for No. 2 Tennessee is Friday.

The Vols will play in the 2023 MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona Feb. 17-19. The MLB Desert Invitational field will consist of Tennessee, Arizona, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Michigan State and San Diego.

Tennessee will play Arizona on Friday at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. First pitch between the Vols and Wildcats is slated for 8 p.m. EST. MLB Network will televise the season-opening game.

Catcher Jared Dickey returns to Tennessee in 2023. Following the season, Dickey is slated to play for the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod Baseball League .

The Vols will play in the 2023 MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona Feb. 17-19. The MLB Desert Invitational field will consist of Tennessee, Arizona, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Michigan State and San Diego.

Tennessee’s 2023 baseball schedule

The 2023 season will be Tennessee’s sixth under head coach Tony Vitello. Vitello has compiled a 191–77 (71–49 SEC) record as the Vols’ head coach.

Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference East division for the second consecutive season, the league regular-season and tournament championships in 2022.

The Vols were a No. 1 overall national seed in the NCAA Tournament, winning the Knoxville regional and advancing to the Knoxville super regional.

Tennessee was ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll for 10 consecutive weeks (March 28-May 30) during the 2022 season.

Founded in 1885, the Cape Cod Baseball League is a collegiate summer league located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Ten teams compete in the Cape Cod Baseball League, divided into East and West divisions.

In 1985, the Cape Cod Baseball League became the first collegiate summer league to use wood bats.

Dickey appeared in 40 games, starting 25 contests, for the Vols in 2022.

He recorded a .380 batting average, while totaling seven home runs, 38 hits, eight doubles, one triple, 19 RBIs, 29 runs, 20 walks, three stolen bases and was hit by a pitch twice in 2022.

Tennessee Vols’ fall baseball preview: Jared Dickey

Tennessee has opened fall practices at Lindsey Nelson Stadium under sixth-year head coach Tony Vitello.

The Vols will play two fall exhibition games.

Tennessee will host Wake Forest Oct. 7 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium at 1 p.m. EDT. The Vols will play Memphis Nov. 6 in Jackson, Tennessee (2 p.m. EDT).

Dickey, a rising redshirt sophomore, is a catcher and outfielder for the Vols.

He appeared in 40 games during the 2022 season and made 25 starts for Tennessee.

Dickey recorded a .380 batting average, totaling 28 runs, 38 hits, eight doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 19 RBIs. He recorded 69 total bases.

Dickey totaled 20 walks and three stolen bases for the Vols despite being injured for a portion of the season.
