Social media reacts to the Oklahoma Sooners 16-1 win in game 1 over Texas

The Oklahoma Sooners put it on the Texas Longhorns 16-1 in the championship series opener and it left Social Media abuzz.

It’s becoming difficult to put together the words to describe just what the Oklahoma Sooners are doing to opponents at this point.

The Sooners’ 16-1 game one win over Texas was an absolutely incredible offensive display, something that we’ve seen from them before and yet somehow uniquely awe-inspiring. Each time they take the field, they seem to come up with a new way to amaze us as we watch arguably the most dominant team in the history of collegiate athletics. Brent Venables would agree.

They’ve become must-see television each night and as Jocelyn Alo plays the final games of her Oklahoma career, we’re witnessing history unfold before our very eyes.

Alo, the NCAA all-time home leader became the first player in NCAA history to lead the country in home runs in three seasons. Here two home runs last night gave her 34 on the season and tied her career-high from a season ago.

The Sooners also set a single-game record for most home runs in a WCWS championship game with six. Jocelyn Alo (2), Tiare Jennings (2), Taylon Snow, and Jana Johns each went yard for Oklahoma who took a 1-0 game series lead over the Texas Longhorns.

Alo and the Sooners still have some business to attend to tonight in game two of the series as Texas looks to give them their best shot to extend the series to a game three.

To get you ready for tonight’s matchup against Texas, let’s take a look at how social media reacted to the incredible game one performance, including a roasting of Oklahoma’s former head football coach, [autotag]Lincoln Riley[/autotag].

Best photos from the Oklahoma Sooners 16-1 win over Texas in game 1 of the WCWS Championship

Relive the Sooner magic with some of the best photos from Oklahoma’s 16-1 win over the Texas Longhorns in game 1 of the WCWS Championship.

The Oklahoma Sooners fell behind 1-0 in the series opener of the WCWS Championship against Texas. It didn’t take them long to respond as Jocelyn Alo hit a two-run home run to make it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the first followed by a three-run home run from Taylon Snow to make it 5-1.

Hope Trautwein battled all night against a speedy Texas lineup, stranding nine runners on base in her five innings pitched.

Oklahoma set Women’s College World Series Championship records with six home runs and set a WCWS record for runs scored in their demolition of the Longhorns.

Alo’s now got 34 home runs on the season to lead the NCAA and Jennings is now one away from joining the 30-homer club in 2022.

The Sooners will take on the Longhorns in game two of the series on Thursday night starting at 6:30 p.m. CT. But before that, let’s relive the action through some amazing photos of Wednesday night’s 16-1 win over Texas.

Oklahoma Sooners dominate UCLA 15-0, advance to WCWS Championship

Jocelyn Alo went 4-for-4 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs and Hope Trautwein allowed just two hits as the Oklahoma Sooners dominated UCLA 15-0 to roar into the WCWS championship series.

After falling to the UCLA Bruins 7-3 in the first game of the day, the Oklahoma Sooners responded to their first loss of the NCAA tournament in a resounding fashion. They beat the 12-time national champions 15-0 to advance to the Women’s College World Series championship and continue their quest to go back-to-back and win their sixth national championship.

As they’ve done in each of the last two seasons following a loss, the Oklahoma Sooners left no doubt in this one, jumping on UCLA from the get-go.

The top of the order came out hot as [autotag]Jayda Coleman[/autotag] opened the game with a lead-off walk. [autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] moved Coleman on a double to right-center and [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] crushed a three-run home run for her 27th of the season to left.

After the three-run shot from Jennings, Alo had a feeling about how game two was going to go against UCLA. And both the offense and the defense proved her right. The ESPN broadcast caught video of Alo telling her teammates that they’d only need five innings in the second game.

The Sooners added three more runs in the top of the second, this time off the bat of the NCAA all-time home run leader, who launched her own three-run home run of the season. Alo provided the action to go with her words. She ended the day going 4-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBIs to lead the Sooners in their 15-0 win. But she didn’t do it alone, [autotag]Hope Trautwein[/autotag] was fantastic as well.

Trautwein allowed just two hits, no walks, and struck out six Bruins to dominate the Bruins. She allowed a double in the bottom of the first and then would go on to retire 12 straight Bruins before allowing her second hit of the afternoon.

And if the Bruins were hoping they’d have a shot to extend the game to seven innings, the Oklahoma Sooners left no doubt that the game would end in five.

In the top of the fifth, the Oklahoma Sooners sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on six hits, with a walk and a hit by pitch.

[autotag]Grace Lyons[/autotag] led off with a hit by pitch and [autotag]Alyssa Brito[/autotag] followed that up with a single. Another single by [autotag]Kinzie Hansen[/autotag] loaded the bases for [autotag]Grace Green[/autotag] who ripped a single of her own scoring Lyons to make it 8-0. [autotag]Rylie Boone[/autotag] continued her hot Women’s College World Series with a two-RBI single to score Brito and Hansen. After [autotag]Jana Johns[/autotag] singled to left to load the bases, Jayda Coleman picked up her second walk of the game, this time pushing home Green to make it 11-0 and load the bases for “Home Run Queen” Jocelyn Alo.

In fitting fashion, Alo worked the count to her favor and blasted her second homer of the day for a grand slam to make it 15-0 to put the game far out of reach of any type of comeback from the highly-ranked Bruins.

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their 40th run-rule win of the season and Jocelyn Alo now has 32 home runs and 82 RBIs on the season.

After a letdown in the first game of the day, the Oklahoma Sooners left no doubt as to their status as the favorites to win it all. Now they await the winner of the other semifinal this evening between the Oklahoma State Cowgirls and the Texas Longhorns. Either way, the Sooners will face a team that has a win over them.

They avenged their April loss to Texas in the winner’s bracket of the Women’s College World Series. Prior to their loss to UCLA, the Cowgirls were the last team to beat the Sooners, picking up a win in the Big 12 championship game.

Relive Oklahoma’s 13-2 victory over Northwestern in stunning still photos

Check out the best images from the Oklahoma Sooners’ 13-2 win over the Northwestern Wildcats in their Women’s College World Series opener.

The Oklahoma Sooners might have been held in check for the first couple of innings, but when Rylie Boone doubled off the right field wall to lead off the third, the floodgates opened.

Oklahoma scored six in the third and seven in the fourth to collect their 39th run-rule win of the season and according to Soonerssports.com, it was just the second time in a Women’s College World Series game that a team had hit two grand slams in a game.

Tiare Jennings and Jana Johns’ grand slams powered Oklahoma to a blowout win against the Big 10 champion and with a pitcher who was one of the best in softball in 2022.

The Oklahoma Sooners will next take on Red River Rival, the Texas Longhorns in the next stage of the Women’s College World Series. But before we move on, let’s revisit the action through some incredible images.

Sooners Nation reacts to Oklahoma Softball’s 13-2 win over Northwestern

The Oklahoma Sooners poured it on in the third and fourth innings to beat Northwestern 13-2 and Sooners Nation loved it.

USA Softball top 10 finalist for National Player of the Year Danielle Williams had just about made it through the Oklahoma Sooners lineup without much of a threat from the top offense in softball. Staked to a 1-0 lead after Rachel Lewis’ solo shot in the Northwestern half of the third, it looked like Oklahoma was in for a battle.

Then Riley Boone happened.

Known for her speed and her desire to put the ball on the ground and run, the Wildcats’ defense was playing in, even in the outfield. Boone then did her best Jayda Coleman impression, launching the ball over the head of Rachel Lewis in right field for a double to lead off the third inning.

Jana Johns drove Boone home with an RBI single. Johns moved to second on a single by Jayda Coleman and after a wild pitch moved Johns and Coleman up a base, Jocelyn Alo was given a free pass to load the bases for Tiare Jennings with no outs.

With a 1-1 lead in the top of the third, Jennings made Williams pay for leaning on her change up a bit too much and launched a ball to deep center field that cleared the fences for a grand slam. It was Jennings’ third grand slam of the season and 25th home run.

At the end of the inning, the Sooners had a 6-1 lead and the ball game felt over at that point. But that wouldn’t stop Oklahoma from pouring it on and sending a message to the rest of the college softball world. Oklahoma would add seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth including a Jana Johns grand slam for her 12th home run of the season.

It was a fantastic way to start the Women’s College World Series as the Oklahoma Sooners look to repeat as national champions. Sooners Nation enjoyed the action and reacted on social media.

Sooners hit 2 grand slams, Jordy Bahl returns as OU opens WCWS with 13-2 win over Northwestern

The Sooners hit two grand slams, Hope Trautwein navigated five walks, and Jordy Bahl returned in Oklahoma’s 13-2 win over Northwestern.

A year ago, the Oklahoma Sooners started their Women’s College World Series with a loss to unranked James Madison University. The Sooners avoided history repeating itself and rode a pair of grand slams to claim a 13-2 run-rule victory against the Northwestern Wildcats.

On offense, the Sooners took a little while to get going and came into the bottom of the third with only one hit and losing by one.

Then the floodgates opened.

The Sooners exploded in the third inning for six runs. A lead-off double by Rylie Boone got the Sooners started and Jana Johns drove her in. Jayda Coleman followed that up with a single to move Johns to second. A wild pitch allowed Coleman and Johns to move up, clearing a base for Jocelyn Alo to get the unintentional-intentional walk to load the bases.

Tiare Jennings wasted little time, taking the first pitch from Danielle Williams to deep center for her third grand slam of the season and 25th home run on the year. That made the game 6-1, but the Sooners weren’t done yet.

Oklahoma got two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and then the bottom of the lineup delivered yet again as Jana Johns bombed another Sooners grand slam to the opposite field to cap off the Sooners scoring.

While opening the WCWS with a massive win to get a day-off on Friday is a very nice way to start, perhaps the biggest story of the day came in to pitch with two outs in the top of the fifth.

After missing almost a month due to an arm injury, freshman phenom Jordy Bahl is back. When she came on to relieve the ever-dominant Hope Trautwein, the Sooner faithful in Oklahoma City erupted in cheers.

Patty Gasso did say that Bahl would be back during the WCWS, and with such a large lead, why not bring in your star pitcher to get the final out to get her first taste of WCWS action?

Hope Trautwein was solid, but not great. Five walks is simply too much at this stage in the season. Trautwein was tagged with both of Northwestern’s runs, but other than the home run given up in the third inning and the walks, she was very, very solid.

With Bahl back, the Sooners’ pitching staff is looking more and more scary.

Their next opponent will be a very familiar foe.

The next round of the WCWS will have a heavy dose of the Red River Rivalry. OU-Texas will face off at 3 P.M. on Saturday.

The Longhorns handled no. 5 UCLA in the first round and won 7-2. Texas ended the Sooners’ 40-game winning streak back in April.

Best photos of the Oklahoma Sooners WCWS-clinching 7-1 win over UCF

Check out the best photos from Oklahoma’s incredible WCWS-clinching win over the UCF Golden Knights on Saturday.

Everything’s gone right for Oklahoma Sooners since the start of the NCAA tournament. With their 7-1 win over the UCF Golden Knights, the Sooners clinched their sixth-straight appearance to the Women’s College World Series and their 12th overall.

They’ve outscored opponents 52-3 in five games.

On Saturday afternoon in a packed Marita Hynes Field, the Sooners were once again phenomenal. [autotag]Nicole May[/autotag] threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out four. She only allowed five baserunners all game and continued to reward Patty Gasso’s faith in the Sooners’ pitching staff minus Jordy Bahl.

[autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] closed out her final appearance at Martia Hynes field in the same way she made her first home plate appearance in Norman; with a dinger. The reigning, defending National Player of the Year (in Bruce Buffer of the UFC voice), hit the 116th home run of her illustrious career and the 29th of the season.

Not to be outdone, [autotag]Grace Lyons[/autotag] joined the 20-homer club, mashing two homers and picking up four RBIs, which would ultimately be the difference in the game.

At this point, the Sooners will be joined by Arizona, Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, and Oregon State. Those six await the winner of the Duke vs. UCLA Super Regional. Heading into their matchup on Saturday night, UCLA holds a 1-0 series lead. The other Super Regional still to be decided features Florida and Virginia Tech.

Florida is the only team remaining from the SEC with a chance to make the Women’s College World Series after the other eight teams to qualify for the NCAA tournament have been eliminated. The Gators and the Hokies are tied at one game a piece with the deciding game to come on Sunday.

But as the Super Regionals wrap up and give way to the Women’s College World Series, let’s take a look back at the Sooners dominant victory over UCF through these fantastic still photos.

Sooners advance to Women’s College World Series with 7-1 win over UCF

With four home runs, including two by Grace Lyons, the Oklahoma Sooners advanced to the Women’s College World Series with a 7-1 win vs. UCF.

For the second day, the Sooners opened their Super Regional matchup with UCF with a run in the first inning and then exploded in the middle frames to pick up the win.

With their 7-1 win over the Knights, the Sooners advance to the Women’s College World Series for the sixth straight year and 12th time in program history.

Nicole May pitched seven innings, picking up the complete-game win and the Sooners got four home runs Grace Lyons, who hit two, Jocelyn Alo, and Jana Johns.

Alo’s home run put a perfect stamp on a storied career. In what would be her final at-bat at Marita Hynes Field, the reigning National Player of the Year closed her career at home the way she started it, clearing the Marita Hynes fences.

After rounding the bases, Sooners fans continued standing, offering the OU legend a lengthy ovation. Alo answered the curtain call, waving to Sooner Nation to show her appreciation in her final game at home.

Jocelyn Alo put an exclamation point on a fantastic career in Norman as the Sooners continue their national title pursuit in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Though the 2022 season has been much about Jocelyn Alo’s last ride with the Sooners, Grace Lyons continues to be the biggest revelation of the year. Her two home runs and four RBIs proved to be the difference in the ball game.

Lyons now has 21 home runs on the season, joining Alo and Tiare Jennings to form the only trio in the nation with 20 or more home runs in 2022. Arkansas is the only other team that can boast multiple players in the 20-homer club.

May’s day started out rocky as she was forced to work around base runners in the early going before settling in to control the UCF lineup while the Sooners’ bats struggled to push runners around to home plate.

May and Hope Trautwein have been clutch for the Oklahoma Sooners since the Big 12 tournament, allowing Patty Gasso to rest Jordy Bahl. As the Sooners get ready for the College World Series, Bahl will have had three weeks of rest to recover from the soreness that’s kept her out.

It’s truly been a team performance for the Sooners who improved to 54-2 on the season and have allowed just three runs in NCAA tournament play, outscoring their opponents 52-3 this postseason. As they await the remainder of the Super Regional results, Oklahoma knows that Big 12 foes Texas and Oklahoma State will be joining them in Oklahoma City. The Longhorns and the Cowgirls are the only teams to get a win over the Sooners, though Oklahoma won the season series against the talented rivals.

Oklahoma Sooners advance to Super Regionals with 20-0 win over Texas A&M

After the largest win in NCAA Softball Tournament history, the Sooners will move on to Super Regionals for the 12th straight-year with their 20-0 win over Texas A&M.

For the 15th time in program history and for the 12th year in a row, the Oklahoma Sooners are going to the Super Regionals after beating Texas A&M 20-0. This was the largest win in NCAA Softball Tournament history.

On Saturday, the Aggie pitching did enough to keep the Sooners’ bats uncomfortable and A&M made the game close on a late two-run home run. On Sunday, it was a completely different story in the Sooners dominating win over the Aggies.

The Sooners scored 20 runs on 12 hits, and four walks and were aided by four errors from the Aggie defense. After an emotional win Saturday evening over Minnesota, it seemed like the Aggies were just out of gas in the regional final.

[autotag]Nicole May[/autotag] was nearly unhittable as she struck out seven Aggies and allowed just two hits through 4.1 innings. [autotag]Macy McAdoo[/autotag] came in to finish the job in the fifth inning to claim yet another run-rule victory for the Sooners.

Oklahoma got it going with a nine-run first inning where the Sooners sent 14 batters to the plate. Texas A&M had three errors in the inning, but Oklahoma had five hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch to reach base. The frame included a [autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] home run and doubles by [autotag]Lynnsie Elam[/autotag] and [autotag]Jana Johns[/autotag] to put the game out of reach before the Aggies ever stepped into the batters box.

The Sooners scored every time they took their turn to bat and scored at least three runs in each inning except the second.

Alo was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. [autotag]Alyssa Brito[/autotag] and [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] added home runs of their own as the Sooners. Seven Sooners notched RBIs led by Britto’s four runs batted in.

OU’s opponent in Super Regionals will be Central Florida after the Knights defeated the Michigan Wolverines in their regional final. UCF was the host as the No. 16 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Super Regionals will run from May 26-29. The Sooners will host UCF for a best-of-three series. The winner will go to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.

Oklahoma Sooners beat Oklahoma State 6-0 to clinch 10th consecutive Big 12 regular season title

The Oklahoma Sooners beat Oklahoma State 6-0 to clinch the Big 12 regular season title with another standout performance from Hope Trautwein

The road to the Big 12 Conference trophy will yet again run through Norman as the unanimous No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners clinched the regular-season title with a win over the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowgirls 6-0.

Since losing to the Texas Longhorns, OU has won nine straight games and allowed only six runs in that same span.

With head football coach Brent Venables in attendance to throw out the first pitch, the best softball team in the world put on an absolute show once again.

[autotag]Hope Trautwein[/autotag] picked up her 14th win of the season in 5.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts. Freshman phenom [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag] came in to finish the job in the sixth.

Bahl struck out two batters in the remaining 1.2 innings of the game. Pitching once again revealed it’s a strength for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma State threatened early with two hits in the first inning, but Bahl ended up stranding both baserunners.

The Cowgirls only managed one hit after the early start as Trautwein buckled down and controlled the game.

Since losing to Texas, the Sooners have thrown five shutouts.

The game was tied at zero through the top of the third, then the Sooners’ offense made some noise.

Alyssa Brito singled home a run, Jana Johns walked with the bases loaded and then Kinzie Hansen hit a three run double to clear the bases.

With two wins against the Cowgirls, OU has now won 28 of their last 29 against their Bedlam rivals. Their only loss since 2011 was last year in Stillwater. Oklahoma has won 10 straight Big 12 regular-season titles and this is their 14th overall.

The regular season finale is tomorrow in Norman at 4 p.m. CST.
