Social media reacts to Oklahoma’s win over California, sweep of Norman Regional

The Oklahoma Sooners launched six home runs to beat the California Golden Bears and social media reacted accordingly.

The Oklahoma Sooners steamrolled through the Norman Regional with an impressive 16-3 win over the California Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon to advance to the super regional round of the NCAA tournament.

Oklahoma mashed six home runs, including a pair each from Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito.  It was another incredible performance by the back-to-back defending national championships.

The Sooners outscored Hofstra, Missouri, and California by a score of 38-3, capped off by their dominating performance of the Golden Bears on Sunday. Now they wait for the winner of Clemson vs. Auburn in the Clemson Regional.

Here’s how social media reacted to Oklahoma’s 16-3 win on Sunday.

Jordy Bahl continues dominant run in regional performance against Missouri

Jordy Bahl has been on an incredible run over the last two months and that continued with her one-hit performance against Missouri.

Jordy Bahl’s been on a roll for two months. After giving up a pair of runs in two innings against Mississippi State on March 13, Bahl’s given up just four runs in her last 71.3 innings pitched.

That’s good for a 0.50 ERA over the last two months. She’s given up runs in just two appearances in that stretch; three against Oklahoma State and one against Texas. Both were complete game performances.

She was noticeably absent from the USA Softball National Player of the Year top three finalists. Much of that is due to the way she started the season. However, Bahl turned it on around the middle of the season and has been on fire since.

And she was again on Saturday, allowing one hit and a walk over five innings. She recorded seven strikeouts to completely shut down the Missouri Tigers offense. The two base runners she allowed were both in the fourth inning. With two on and one out, Bahl was able to get out of the jam with a ground out to third and a strikeout to end the inning. She retired the side in the other four innings she pitched.

The Oklahoma Sooners have boasted the best offensive in college softball for years now. But in 2023, they found balance by also rolling into the circle the best pitching staff in college softball. Nicole May and Alex Storako have been a huge part of that, but the run that Jordy Bahl has been on over the last two months has been remarkable.

As the Sooners look to win their third-straight national championship, this looks like the most balanced team they’ve had, and that’s because they have one of the best pitchers in college softball.

Though they didn’t need her to turn out the lights on the Tigers, Jordy Bahl put forth another masterful performance from the circle.

Here’s a look at some of the best images from Oklahoma’s 11-0 win over Missouri.

Kinzie Hansen, Nicole May lead the way in Oklahoma’s 11-0 win over Hofstra

Kinzie Hansen and Nicole May put together great performances to help the Oklahoma Sooners get off to a great start in the NCAA tournament.

It was a strong start to the NCAA tournament for the Oklahoma Sooners, who picked up their 31st shutout of the season with their 11-0 win over Hofstra in the opener of the Norman Regional.

The Sooners received home run blasts from Grace Lyons and Jayda Coleman. Both Lyons and Coleman hit a pair of two-run bombs to help get the Sooners out in front quickly. The home run hitters from the win were each held to just one hit, but they made it count.

It was Kinzie Hansen leading the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort with four RBIs. She was clutch with runners in scoring position, providing timely hitting. With her performance, she’s upped her batting average to .409, which is third on the team in 2023. Hansen now has 48 RBIs, which is also third.

Hansen’s played in only 40 of Oklahoma’s 53 games after missing the start of the 2023 season. Her timely hitting and steady hand behind the plate have been huge for the Sooners. While others may be getting more headlines, Hansen’s put together a comeback player of the year type season after battling injuries in 2022.

Hansen’s had a huge hand in helping the Oklahoma Sooners pitching staff become the best in the country. Her strong veteran presence and understanding of the game provide a security for the Sooners pitchers that helps them be at their best.

It was another strong performance from Nicole May, arguably the most underrated player in collegiate softball. She threw another four scoreless innings, allowing one hit to the Pride to pick up her 17th win of the season.

May has the second-lowest ERA among qualified pitchers at 0.58 in 2023. She allowed just one hit and no walks. Just an absolutely dominant performance from the sophomore pitcher.

And it’s that depth, both in the lineup and the rotation, that’s made the Oklahoma Sooners so dangerous in 2023. They’ve been able to keep everyone fresh on the pitching staff, with nobody throwing more than Jordy Bahl’s 109.1 innings pitched.

Now, Oklahoma gets ready for former Big 12 and future SEC foe Missouri on day two of the Norman Regional.

Here are some of the best photos from Friday’s action in Norman.

Top-seeded Oklahoma Sooners learn opponents for Norman Regional

During the NCAA tournament selection show on ESPN, the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners learned who they’ll be facing in the Norman Regional.

The Oklahoma Sooners begin their quest for a three-peat this week and now know their opponents for the first round of the NCAA tournament.

As revealed in the NCAA Tournament selection show on ESPN, the Sooners will host Cal, Missouri and Hofstra in the regional round of the NCAA tournament.

Not surprisingly, the Sooners are the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed. The back-to-back national champions are riding a 43-game winning streak and haven’t lost since February. The Sooners are making their 29th consecutive NCAA appearance and have advanced to the Women’s College World Series in six straight seasons.

Joining them in Norman are the California Golden Bears, who went 33-19-1 in 2023, but just 9-14-1 in Pac-12 play. Notably, they won series over Arizona, Arizona State and Utah and picked up wins over Iowa and Texas Tech in nonconference play.

The Missouri Tigers return to Norman after going 34-24 and 7-17 in SEC play, finishing in last place during the conference’s regular season.

Hofstra joins the field after winning the CAA tournament title. It was 29-25 during the season and went 16-7 in conference play. The Pride went 8-1 in their final nine games, including 5-1 in the CAA double-elimination tournament.

The Sooners are the overwhelming favorite to advance out of the Norman Regional, which will begin play Friday May, 19. The Sooners open the series against Hofstra at 4 p.m. CT on ESPNU followed by Missouri and California. The winners will meet in the first game of Saturday’s triple-header.

The winner of the Norman Regional will face the winner of the Clemson Regional, hosted by the No. 16 Clemson Tigers.

Social Media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners 20-0 win over Texas A&M

What did social media have to say following the Oklahoma Sooners’ 20-0 win over Texas A&M in the Norman Regional?

Oklahoma Softball has become a sight to behold. Must-see television every time they take the field. They proved it once again on Sunday, beating the Texas A&M Aggies 20-0.

It was a record-setting day for Oklahoma, which set a new mark for the biggest win in NCAA tournament history and a new school record for most shutouts in a season. And there’s still much more to the 2022 season for this team.

Jocelyn Alo hit the 115th home run of her career and Nicole May pitched 4.1 shutout innings for her second win of the weekend. She allowed just two hits on the day, giving the Aggies no hope for a comeback from the jump.

It was about as perfect of a day as the Sooners could draw up on Sunday to clinch their 12th straight Super Regionals appearance.

“Yeah, very proud of this team today. This is probably one of our best, complete efforts in all phases of our game top to bottom,” said the media via Joey Helmer of OUInsider. Fans were on fire. I was [impressed]. We were fired up. The fans really came out today. So, I just felt good momentum from the start. Team felt, they looked loose. They looked fast with the way they were swinging, very aggressive, very disciplined at the plate.”

Everything went right for the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday. Their Norman Regional sweep set up a showdown in Norman against UCF who went 49-12 on the season and won their regional over Villanova and Michigan.

But before we begin looking at the Knights, let’s take a look at how social media reacted after the Sooners 20-0 win over Texas A&M.

5 takeaways from the Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 weekend in the Norman Regional

The Oklahoma Sooners were excellent in their three-game sweep in the Norman regional and here are five takeaways from the weekend.

The Oklahoma Sooners have made a habit of advancing to the super regionals of the NCAA tournament. This will be their 12th straight appearance when they take on the UCF Knights in Norman next weekend.

The Sooners were incredible in their three games against Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M, outscoring their opponents 37-2 in the three games, which included two run-rule victories and two shutouts.

The only blemish to what could have been a perfect weekend was a two-run home run in the sixth inning from Aggies star catcher Haley Lee that brought the game within one. But Hope Trautwein provided little hope after that and kept the Aggies at bay to pick up the win on Saturday.

Marita Hynes Field was rocking once again as the Sooners put on a show all weekend in front of the home crowd. Before setting the stage for the Sooners showdown with UCF, let’s take a look at five takeaways from Oklahoma’s incredible weekend in the Norman regional.

Take a look back at the Oklahoma Sooners’ dominating performance during the Norman Regional.

The Oklahoma Sooners went 3-0 in the Norman Regional, outscoring their opponents 37-2 in the three games. They secured run-rule wins over Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M to bookend the weekend by a combined score of 34-0.

The only game that was close was the narrow 3-2 win over the Aggies on Saturday.

The win 20-0 win over Texas A&M on Sunday put the Sooners into the Super Regionals for the 12th-straight year. They’ll take on the University of Central Florida, who also went 3-0 with wins over Villanova and Michigan (twice) to advance in the NCAA tournament.

The Sooners pitching duo of [autotag]Nicole May[/autotag] and [autotag]Hope Trautwein[/autotag] were fantastic without freshman phenom Jordy Bahl available for the weekend. May and Trautwein pitched 16.1 innings for the Sooners this weekend and went 3-0.

Jocelyn Alo continues to display why she’s the best player in softball as she went 6-for-7 with two home runs and six RBIs over the weekend. Jayda Coleman was phenomenal at the top of the order for Oklahoma. Coleman went 6-for-9 with a home run and five RBIs and also reached base two more times via walk. Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito were also fantastic as the Sooners got contributions up and down the lineup all weekend.

Take a look back at some of the best photos from the Sooners’ phenomenal weekend in Norman.

Oklahoma Sooners advance to Super Regionals with 20-0 win over Texas A&M

After the largest win in NCAA Softball Tournament history, the Sooners will move on to Super Regionals for the 12th straight-year with their 20-0 win over Texas A&M.

For the 15th time in program history and for the 12th year in a row, the Oklahoma Sooners are going to the Super Regionals after beating Texas A&M 20-0. This was the largest win in NCAA Softball Tournament history.

On Saturday, the Aggie pitching did enough to keep the Sooners’ bats uncomfortable and A&M made the game close on a late two-run home run. On Sunday, it was a completely different story in the Sooners dominating win over the Aggies.

The Sooners scored 20 runs on 12 hits, and four walks and were aided by four errors from the Aggie defense. After an emotional win Saturday evening over Minnesota, it seemed like the Aggies were just out of gas in the regional final.

[autotag]Nicole May[/autotag] was nearly unhittable as she struck out seven Aggies and allowed just two hits through 4.1 innings. [autotag]Macy McAdoo[/autotag] came in to finish the job in the fifth inning to claim yet another run-rule victory for the Sooners.

Oklahoma got it going with a nine-run first inning where the Sooners sent 14 batters to the plate. Texas A&M had three errors in the inning, but Oklahoma had five hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch to reach base. The frame included a [autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] home run and doubles by [autotag]Lynnsie Elam[/autotag] and [autotag]Jana Johns[/autotag] to put the game out of reach before the Aggies ever stepped into the batters box.

The Sooners scored every time they took their turn to bat and scored at least three runs in each inning except the second.

Alo was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. [autotag]Alyssa Brito[/autotag] and [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] added home runs of their own as the Sooners. Seven Sooners notched RBIs led by Britto’s four runs batted in.

OU’s opponent in Super Regionals will be Central Florida after the Knights defeated the Michigan Wolverines in their regional final. UCF was the host as the No. 16 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Super Regionals will run from May 26-29. The Sooners will host UCF for a best-of-three series. The winner will go to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.

The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to punch their ticket to the NCAA super regionals for the 12th straight time as they take on the Texas A&M Aggies in the Norman regional finals on Sunday.

The Sooners knocked off the Aggies on Saturday in the second leg of the regional, 3-2 behind strong performances from Jayda Coleman and Hope Trautwein.

Coleman was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Trautwein threw a complete game and allowed just three hits on the afternoon.
