Warriors Preseason: Moses Moody, JaMychal Green, James Wiseman help roll Trail Blazers, 131-98

Moses Moody, JaMychal Green and James Wiseman helped the Warriors roll Trail Blazers in the preseason, 131-98.

After dropping their first loss in the preseason on Sunday to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors were back on the court against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday at Chase Center.

Despite the absence of most of their core pieces, including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole and Kevon Looney, the Warriors steamrolled past the Trail Blazers on Tuesday in blowout fashion.

Led by Moses Moody, JaMychal Green and James Wiseman, six members of the Warriors tallied double-figure scoring performances on the way to a 131-98 victory over the Trail Blazers.

Moody impressed with the opportunity to start, scoring 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 shooting from deep. The sophomore guard added three boards, two steals, a block and an assist in 23 minutes.

2022 second-round pick Ryan Rollins got involved with the scoring, tallying 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field with five assists in 16 minutes off the bench on Tuesday night.

The Warriors will have one final preseason game before the start of the regular season. The Warriors will host the Nuggets on Friday night at Chase Center at 7 p.m. PT for the last preseason contest of the 2022 campaign.

JaMychal Green gives back $2.6 million in buyout with Thunder

JaMychal Green gave back some of his salary in order to sign with the Warriors.

The details of the Oklahoma City Thunder waiving JaMychal Green were revealed on Saturday. Green, who was set to make $8.2 million next season after opting into his player option, gave back $2.6 million in order to reach free agency, per Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

After clearing waivers, Green signed with the Golden State Warriors on the veteran’s minimum.

The Thunder now has $34 million in dead cap next season with Green, Kemba Walker and Kyle Singlers on the sheets.

Overall, it’s a nice amount of change that the Thunder were let loose of giving. The team was essentially able to buy the Denver Nuggets 2027 top-five protected first-round pick for $5.6 million.

Former Alabama hoops star reaches buyout with Thunder, signs with Warriors

Former Alabama forward JaMychal Green has agreed to a contract buyout with the Thunder and signed with the Warriors.

Former Alabama forward JaMychal Green reached a contract buyout agreement with the Oklahoma City Thunder and signed with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Just a month ago, Green and a 2027 first-round draft pick were traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Thunder for Peyton Watson. Now, it appears that the native of Montgomery, Alabama is set to join the reigning NBA Champions in Golden State.

Green spent four seasons at Alabama. He started in 114 of the 123 games that he played in. In four seasons with the Tide, he averaged 13.5 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game. Green finished his career with the Tide as a unanimous Freshman All-American, as well as being named as a First-Team All-SEC selection during his senior season. Along with those honors, he also finished in Alabama’s top-15 all-time scoring list with 1,656 points scored.

In 2012, Green went undrafted. He would spend three seasons in the NBA’s G-League before making his NBA debut with the San Antonio Spurs on January 18, 2015.

Green will now be joining his sixth different team since making his debut in the NBA. He has spent time with the Spurs, Grizzlies, Clippers, Nuggets, Thunder and now the Warriors. Over the course of his nine-year career, he has averaged 7.9 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game and 0.9 assists per game. He has played primarily in a reserve role for each of the the teams that he has been on.

Last season, the Warriors won the NBA Championship. After losing some key pieces off the bench, the team has turned to signing JaMychal Green to provide a veteran presence and scoring off the bench.

OKC Thunder buyout JaMychal Green, intends to sign with the Warriors

An end of an era.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have parted ways with JaMychal Green in the form of a buyout, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Green will sign with the Golden State Warriors once he clears waivers.

The Thunder acquired Green and a 2027 protected first-round pick in a trade with the Denver Nuggets this past June for the 2022 NBA draft No. 30 pick.

Green subsequently picked up his $8.2 million player option. When asked about his future with the team, Thunder general manager Sam Presti said the team will work with Green to ship him off to another team.

Green now gets a chance to be a rotation player for the 2022 NBA champion Warriors.

The 32-year-old averaged 6.4 points on 48.6 percent shooting and 4.2 rebounds in 67 games last season.

Players who the OKC Thunder could move on from

The Thunder are currently over the amount of players allowed on an NBA roster. Here are some candidates who could be on the chopping block.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are currently experiencing a roster crunch.

The team currently has 22 players under contract — 20 on full-time NBA contracts and two two-way players.

Even though the Thunder are five players over the allowed amount on an NBA roster, general manager Sam Presti said the team is in no rush to start trimming that down and will likely wait until the start of the regular season to get that number down to 17.

The Thunder will use Summer League and training camp to let roster spot battles play out to see who makes the opening night roster.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of the players who are on the bubble of the roster and are prime candidates of being let go.

Thunder GM Sam Presti hoping to move JaMychal Green before start of season

The Thunder will try to move JaMychal Green.

Following the introductory press conference for the 2022 draft class, Thunder general manager Sam Presti spoke with the media and said that the team will look to move veteran JaMychal Green elsewhere.

“We’re trying to figure that out. I think we’ll probably find a situation for him that’s not with us but that’s not because we don’t value him as a player,” said Presti. “My hope is we’ll be able to sort that out.”

Green was acquired from the Denver Nuggets in a trade that landed the Thunder a 2027 top-five protected first-round pick. Green opted into his $8.2 million player option recently.

Protections for the 2027 first-round Nuggets pick revealed

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

The protections for the 2027 first-round pick the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired from the Denver Nuggets in the JaMychal Green trade have been revealed.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported on the most recent episode of his podcast, “The Lowe Post,” that the pick is top-five protected.

If the Nuggets get a top-five pick in the 2027 draft, the Thunder will have two more chances to get the first-round pick: 2028 and 2029 under the same top-five protection.

If the Nuggets get three consecutive top-fives in the 2027, 2028 and 2029 drafts, then the Thunder will get one or two second-round picks.

Considering all the Thunder had to eat was Green’s $8.2 million salary for next season, this is a massive win that they were able to get such a light protection on a small trade.

The Thunder helped the Nuggets shed $20 million of luxury taxes on their payroll with this trade. The Nuggets, who recently loss general manager Tim Connelly to the Minnesota Timberwolves, appear to be trying to shed salary off their team payroll. A quartet of massive contracts to Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon take up virtually their entire cap space.
