Giants trade down, select a CB in latest Chad Reuter mock draft

In the latest 4-round mock from NFL Network’s Chad Reuter, the New York Giants trade down and add another top-100 pick before landing a CB.

Are the New York Giants and general manager Joe Schoen likely to make a trade during the 2023 NFL draft? And if so, will they move up or down?

That’s a scenario NFL Network’s Chad Reuter recently experimented with during his four-round mock draft. In it, he had the Giants trade back with the Kansas City Chiefs, acquiring an additional third-round pick (No. 95) before selecting South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith at No. 31 overall.

The Giants land a versatile defender in Smith, who has the skill set to line up outside, in the slot and at safety during his pro career.

The versatile Smith is becoming a more common mock to the Giants with just two-plus weeks remaining before the annual event gets underway.

On the other end of this Giants-Chiefs trade, Kansas City pleases their hometown crowd with the selection of Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who has also been a common mock to the Giants.

In Round 2, the Giants find their new starting center with Wisconsin’s Joe Tippmann. Then they begin to fill in gaps with LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and Florida State safety Jammie Robinson at No. 89 and No. 95, respectively.

The Giants close things out with Vanderbilt linebacker Anfernee Orji in Round 4.

2023 NFL draft: 13 potential safety targets for the Seahawks

Here are 13 potential safety targets for the Seahawks in the draft, including the four who they have held official meetings with.

On paper the Seahawks look like the last team in the NFL that would need to draft a safety this year. With Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams and Julian Love likely starting they definitely have the strongest and most expensive safety room in the league. However, Seattle’s front office has already met with several safety prospects in the 2023 draft class. It also sounds like they will be deploying a lot more three-safety sets, so we definitely can’t rule it out.

Here are 13 potential safety targets for the Seahawks in the draft, including the four who they have held official meetings with.

15 NFL draft prospects who are perfect fits for the Eagles’ offensive scheme

We’re looking at 15 2023 NFL Draft prospects that perfectly fit Brian Johnson and Nick Sirianni’s offense with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL draft is full of elite and dynamic offensive talent, but the biggest key to building the perfect roster is selecting players that fit an urgent need.

Brian Johnson was promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator in a move that was expected after Steichen accepted the Colts’ head coaching job.

Sirianni hired Johnson in 2021 when he became the Eagles’ head coach. Johnson was the University of Florida’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Johnson began coaching in 2011 at Utah, where he was a star quarterback under Urban Meyer. Johnson rose and played a crucial role in Dak Prescott earning All-SEC honors at Mississippi State.

His most important job will be to ensure the NFL’s most dominant offense keeps its identity while taking the next step in efficiency and innovation.

We’re looking at ten prospects who’ll fit his scheme with the fast-approaching NFL draft just three weeks away.

The NFL draft is fast approaching, and the 2023 influx of talent comes at a reasonable time after a mass exodus of free agents on defense.

Patriots hosted versatile safety for visit on Wednesday

The Patriots reportedly met with a top safety draft prospect on Wednesday.

Pre-draft preparations continued for the New England Patriots on Wednesday with the team hosting versatile safety Jammie Robinson for a top-30 visit, per the Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Robinson could be the missing piece to replace Devin McCourty. He played in 13 games last season and recorded 99 total tackles. His versatility was also on display last year, as he played at several positions. Deep safety and slot cornerback were just a couple of the duties he fulfilled.

New England has a safety position headlined by Kyle Dugger and Adrian Phillips. Nevertheless, Robinson would give them even more versatility and athleticism at the position.

There are uncertainties on what the Patriots will do when the draft board goes live, but a player like Robinson would go a long way in filling an obvious need for the team.

Looking at the top 10 potential targets for the Eagles at No. 10 overall in NFL draft

We’re looking at the top ten potential draft targets for the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 10 overall pick.

The 2023 NFL draft is fast approaching, and after a few first wave moves, Philadelphia appears locked in on adding pass rushers and offensive linemen.

Thanks to some draft night wizardry from Howie Roseman, the Eagles traded the No. 16 overall pick, No. 19 overall pick, and a 2022 sixth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for the No. 18 overall pick, a 2022 third-round pick, a 2022 seventh-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick.

Philadelphia has a Super Bowl-caliber offense and needs to reload on defense.

We’re looking at the top ten players that’ll likely be the target for Howie Roseman and the Eagles at No. 10 overall.

30 Browns prospects in 30 days: Jammie Robinson, Safety, FSU

Robinson could provide great depth at multiple positions.

The makeover for the Cleveland Browns defense has begun with a solid free agency period with the 2023 NFL Draft a few weeks from now. Adding a versatile player like Jammie Robinson could be a great way to wrap up the off-season additions. Robinson played most of his snaps as a deep free safety last year but also logged 252 snaps in the box and 167 snaps as a slot defender.

The team doesn’t have a true slot and just one true deep free safety on the roster and Robinson could help fill both roster holes. A player that plays with a high motor Robinson is a reliable tackler in both run defense and the passing game.

A good athlete Robinson uses his athleticism and high football IQ to be an impact player in run defense and against the short passing game. He is at his best in the box closer to the line of scrimmage but his ability to be a Swiss army knife is something Andrew Berry covets.

Packers to host Florida State S Jammie Robinson on official pre-draft visit

The Packers will host Florida State safety Jammie Robinson on an official pre-draft visit.

The Green Bay Packers will eventually host an official top-30 pre-draft visit with Florida State safety Jammie Robinson, according to Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network.

Teams get 30 pre-draft visits with prospects before the draft.

Robinson (5-11, 191) played two seasons at Florida State after transferring from South Carolina. Over four collegiate seasons and 47 total games, Robinson produced 319 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and 23 pass breakups. He was a back-to-back All-ACC selection at Florida State.

At the combine, Robinson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, hit 33.5″ in the vertical leap, covered 9-8 in the broad jump and finished 23 reps in the bench press. His Relative Athletic Score is 5.97 out of 10.0.

The majority of Robinson’s snaps came as a deep safety or in the slot, but his lack of ideal size at safety and lack of elite athleticism at cornerback could limit his usage in the NFL.

Pauline described Robinson as “very good in drills” during Florida State’s pro day. Evaluators see Robinson as a potential safety/slot corner at the next level.

The Packers’ need at safety is clear and obvious. Robinson’s comp on NFL.com is Damarious Randall, who played corner in Green Bay but eventually moved to safety at other stops in the league.

2023 NFL Draft: The top 9 safeties

From Brian Branch to Jartavius Martin, here are Doug Farrar’s top nine safeties in the 2023 NFL draft class.

In the modern NFL, it’s the rare safety who’s paid to be just a safety. Three players classified as safeties finished the 2022 season with six interceptions: Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles. Each of those players had more than 100 snaps in the slot last season, and Gardner-Johnson’s deployment may have been most indicative of the ways in which defensive coordinators would like most of their safeties to play. He had 443 snaps at free safety, 202 in the box, and 208 in the slot.

If you are going to be a traditional deep safety most of the time, as Quandre Diggs of the Seattle Seahawks was with a league-leading 1,012 of his 1,221 snaps in the deep third, you’d better be some kind of ballhawk. Last season, only 21 players had more than 600 snaps at pure free safety, and the slot percentages for most safeties have increased exponentially over the last few years. In an NFL where nickel is the new base defense, and most defenses are playing as much or more dime than old-school base, the ways things worked before don’t work now most of the time.

So, when we look at the top nine draft prospects classified as safeties in this draft class, we’re focusing on positional versatility above all, and if positional versatility isn’t the thing, there had best be one mega/alpha skill if you want to make this list.

No matter where they play on the field from snap to snap, here are our nine best safeties for the 2023 NFL draft.
