Ten highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL following Jalen Hurts’ 5-year, $255M contract extension

We’re looking at the ten highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL following Jalen Hurts’ 5-year, $255 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles

After agreeing to a five-year, $255 million contract extension with the Eagles, which has $179 million in guarantees, Jalen Hurts is the new king of quarterback contracts.

NFL contracts are constantly resetting, and we’ll now await deals for Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert.

The new deal will keep the 2020 second-round pick in Philadelphia through the 2028 season.

An All-Pro and MVP runner-up, Hurts has now erased any doubts about his status with the franchise, and now the Eagles will work towards returning to the Super Bowl.

With the contract now set, here’s a look at the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL via Over The Cap.

Eagles make Jalen Hurts highest-paid player in NFL history: Twitter reacts

The Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to an extension making him the highest paid player in NFL history. Here is how Twitter handled the news.

Just because you don’t win the Super Bowl doesn’t mean you can’t make NFL history.

The Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts have agreed upon a five-year contract extension worth $255 million. The contract makes Hurts the highest paid player in NFL history.

Not bad for a second-rounder who led his team to the Super Bowl after just his second full season as the starter.

Naturally with Hurts, the star quarterback of a winning and recognizable franchise, making headlines, it generated commentary on social media. Eagles fans, NFC East fans, and the rest of the lot had their takes. Here are some of the best.

NFL executive predicts Eagles’ All-Pro QB Jalen Hurts will land a Patrick Mahomes-type deal

NFL executive predicts Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts will land a Patrick Mahomes-type contract extension

Jalen Hurts is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will land a massive deal after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance in 202.

Howie Roseman likes to strike early, and the idea is to reset the market with a team-friendly deal before Joe Burrow (Bengals), Justin Herbert (Chargers), and Lamar Jackson (Ravens) land astronomical numbers.

Mike Sando of The Athletic recently broke down the free agent process for all 32 teams. One NFL executive believes Philadelphia will structure a deal for Hurts like the Chiefs did with MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I think Hurts will do a Mahomes-type deal with a good structure for the team,” the executive said. “He seems to get it.”

Kansas City signed Mahomes to a 10-year contract worth $503 million ahead of the 2020 season, with a structure that includes rolling guarantees providing the team with more flexibility yearly.

Mahomes earned roughly $63 million over three seasons from 2020 through 2022, and his base salary won’t rise above $3 million per season until 2027.

Hurts, 24, has improved every year since he entered the NFL, and he’s set to be among the highest-paid at his position after leading the Eagles to back-to-back playoff appearances while earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors along with MVP considerations.

Twitter reacts to A.J. Brown joking about a trade, wearing KC Royals fitted cap

Social media reacts to everything and A.J. Brown joking about a trade and wearing a Kansas City Royals fitted cap on the @Raw__Room got a response

A.J. Brown is a fan favorite in Philadelphia, but depending on who you ask, the All-Pro wide receiver broke two cardinal rules on Monday night.

Brown was a guest on the Raw Room Podcast with host Daren Bates (NFL veteran), Jalen Collins (NFL veteran) and Alex Sweet when the discussion of a contract extension for Jalen Hurts came up.

Brown joked that Howie Roseman and the Eagles would need to trade him to whatever team they allowed his best friend to take his services to.

Likely not getting the joke, fans, media, and pundits reacted to Browns’ comments and his wearing of a Kansas City Royals fitted cap while on the platform.

Eagles: 11 takeaways from Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni’s end-of-season press conference

We’re looking at 11 takeaways from the Eagles end of the season press conference with Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni

The Eagles held their annual season-ending press conferences and unlike the 2021 version, we’ll head into the offseason definitely certain about the quarterback, head coach, and potential for sustained success.

Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen landed jobs, and there are 18 pending free agents, but other than that, Philadelphia will enter the 2023 offseason with front-office continuity, draft assets, and a clear plan for improving around Jalen Hurts.

Here are 11 takeaways and notes from the presser.

Eagles owner on contract extension for Jalen Hurts: He has nothing to prove

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie says All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts is just what the team is looking for when asked about a contract extension

Jalen Hurts has established himself as the Eagles’ starting quarterback and the three-year process could be featured as a ‘TED Talk’ or ‘Masterclass’ on perseverance, hard work, and trusting your process.

The former second-round pick went from potential career backup and fill-in for Carson Wentz to the most talked-about athlete in Philadelphia, and a legit MVP candidate.

Hurts made NFL history this season, and his 23 rushing touchdowns in his first 32 starts, the most in league history for a quarterback in that span.

With the Birds just days away from kicking off Super Bowl 57, owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked about his quarterback landing a long-term deal.

This season when available, Hurts led the Eagles to a 14-1 record (.933 winning percentage) as a starter, completing 306-of-460 (66.5%) attempts for 3,701 yards (8.0 avg.), 22 TDs, 6 INTs, and 101.6 passer rating, while also rushing for 760 yards and 13 TDs. In total, Hurts combined for 4,461 yards and 35 TDs.

With Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow likely to reset the market, Howie Roseman will look to get Hurts signed and delivered long before the two AFC gunslinger sign their new deals.

Projecting a contract extension for Eagles QB Jalen Hurts after dominant performance

With NFL quarterback salaries soaring, here’s a breakdown of what a contract extension could look like for Eagles MVP candidate Jalen Hurts

You never want to create any postseason distractions for your team, but Monday, January 9 is a day that Jalen Hurts has waited for his entire career.

Starting today, players from the 2020 NFL Draft class are eligible for contract extensions and those discussions or deals can happen at any point now.

Hurts is a Pro Bowl quarterback, and MVP candidate.

The NFL is all about loading up on young, dynamic talent, and as Philadelphia continues to reload at key positions, Hurts is the one player in the NFL to watch.

A 2020 second-round pick, Hurts won’t have to worry about a fifth-year option before he can cash out and 2023 will be the final year of his rookie contract.

Howie Roseman is all about striking first and since the Eagles’ third-year quarterback’s trajectory has risen to elite status, Philadelphia could be on the hook for even more than was initially guaranteed when they signed Carson Wentz to a new deal.

After leading the Eagles to the playoffs in back-to-back years, while also vastly improving under center, Hurts will soon be one of the top 10 highest-paid signal-callers.

Here’s an early projection of what a new deal for Hurts would look like.

How Russell Wilson’s new 5-year, $245M contract impacts Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts

We’re taking a look at how the new five-year, $245 million contract extension Russell Wilson signed with the Denver Broncos will impact Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts

Ian Rapoport reports that the Denver Broncos made some serious contract news on Thursday, agreeing with star quarterback Russell Wilson on a five-year, $245 million extension that includes $165 million in guaranteed money.

The blockbuster deal is the third-most lucrative contract in NFL history, behind only Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s $230 million and Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s $189.5 million.

The extension pays Wilson an average salary of $49 million, with the salary cap rising even more over the next few years.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts isn’t as talented as Russell Wilson, and he doesn’t have to be regarding a loom contract extension.

It just has to be his time.

The new deal will impact Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who could be in line for a massive extension if he can lead Philadelphia to the postseason in back-to-back years.

How Kyler Murray’s new 5-year, $230M extension with Cardinals impacts Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts

How Kyler Murray’s new 5-year, $230M extension with the Arizona Cardinals impacts Philadelphia Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts

Kyler Murray will be a wealthy man after the Cardinals star agreed to a five-year extension worth $230.5 million, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks.

The deal, which runs through the 2028 season, includes $160 million guaranteed for injury, and according to Adam Schefter, Murray will make $105 million fully guaranteed upon signing the deal.

Murray’s $46.1 million average salary is the second highest in the NFL behind only Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers ($50.3 million).

Murray’s new deal will impact Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who could be in line for a huge extension if he can lead Philadelphia to the postseason in back-to-back years.

Jalen Hurts rookie contract details with Philadelphia Eagles by the numbers

Jalen Hurts contract details with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles added Jalen Hurts to the roster via draft pick and his salary is already set in stone with the NFL’s rookie wage scale already in play.

Because Hurts was the No. 53 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, his rookie deal will be worth just over $6 million, with a $1.94 million signing bonus per Over The Cap.

Hurts will just under $1.1 million against the Eagles’ salary cap in 2020.

Hurts is a developmental quarterback but he’ll get his feet wet early as the Eagles view him in the same context the Saints view Taysom Hill.

Hurts is an improving passer and in 2019 at Oklahoma, he rushed for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns on top of the 3,851 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.
