Seahawks hiring Rams’ Jake Peetz as pass game coordinator

The Seahawks are hiring Jake Peetz away from the Rams, making him their new pass game coordinator

Teams continue to pick apart the Los Angeles Rams’ coaching staff, including their rivals up north. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Seattle Seahawks are hiring Jake Peetz as their pass game coordinator.

Peetz was an offensive assistant for the Rams in 2022 and then their pass game specialist in 2023, but he’s getting a promotion from Seattle as the pass game coordinator. The Rams could not block this hire despite the titles being similar because it technically isn’t a lateral move.

Peetz is a rising assistant coach in the NFL and was a candidate to become the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator this offseason before Liam Coen was hired. Prior to joining the Rams, he was LSU’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021.

He also had previous stints with the Jaguars, Alabama, Redskins, Raiders and Panthers.

Seahawks add 4 more assistant coaches to Mike Macdonald’s staff

On Thursday we received word of three more assistants getting hired by Seattle.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is ramping up his coaching staff for the 2024 season. Since Thursday we received word of four more assistants getting hired by Seattle.

According to Mike Garafolo at NFL Network, the team is hiring Rams pass game specialist Jake Peetz as their new pass game coordinator.

Before he joined Sean McVay’s staff Peetz put in time with a ton of different college and NFL teams, including UCLA, the Jaguars, the Raiders, Alabama, the Commanders and the Panthers. Here Peetz will be working under Seattle’s new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who spent the last two seasons calling plays for Washington.

Additionally, the team announced yesterday that they have added Devin Fitzsimmons as an assistant special teams coach.

Fitzsimmons also comes with a lot of experience. This will be his 12th season coaching special teams between college and the NFL. With the Seahawks Fitzsimmons will be serving under special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh, son of Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. He had been working as Michigan’s special teams coordinator under his dad last season when they won the national title.

Also, Jeremy Fowler at ESPN is reporting that Frisman Jackson is getting hired as the team’s new wide receivers coach.

After his playing career was over, Jackson served as wide receivers coach at a bunch of different college programs, including Temple and Baylor. He followed Matt Rhule to the Panthers, serving in the same role there for two years, followed by two years as the Steelers’ wide receiver coach.

Finally, according to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, the Seahawks are hiring Kennedy Polamalu as their running backs coach.

Polamalu also has extensive experience coaching at both levels. Most recently he has been the running backs coach for the Vikings from 2017-2021 and then the Raiders for the last two seasons.

Seahawks hiring 3 former Panthers coaches

The Seahawks are hiring a few familiar names to their coaching staff.

The pipeline between Charlotte and Seattle apparently goes both ways.

On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers announced the final touches to their 2024 coaching staff. Joining the sideline will be five new assistants, all of which have spent at least part of their coaching careers with the Seattle Seahawks.

Not to be completely outdone, the Seahawks plucked a trio of former Panthers for themselves—Devin Fitzsimmons, Jake Peetz and Frisman Jackson.

Fitzsimmons, the most recent member of the organization, was officially hired by Seattle as their new assistant special teams coach. He served in the same role for Carolina this past season.

Peetz, as first reported by NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, has been added as the team’s pass game coordinator. The Nebraska native was hired by the Panthers as a running backs coach for 2019 and was retained by Matt Rhule as a quarterbacks coach for 2020.

Jackson, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, is on as the wide receivers coach—the same position he had in Carolina between 2020 and 2021.

Bucs officially interview Jake Peetz for vacant OC job

The Bucs interviewed a Sean McVay disciple for their OC position on Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have completed another interview for their vacant offensive coordinator job, and they’ve interviewed a candidate with a very popular set of credentials in the NFL lately — he’s a disciple of Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay.

The team announced Thursday it’s interviewed Rams passing game coordinator Jake Peetz for their vacant OC position. Peetz was the second candidate from the McVay pool considered, as the team also requested an interview with Rams QB coach Zac Robinson before he went to the Atlanta Falcons to be their offensive coordinator instead.

Peetz was LSU’s offensive coordinator in 2021 before moving to Los Angeles as an offensive assistant in 2022. He was promoted to passing game coordinator in 2023, where the Rams fielded a top-10 offense by both passing yards and points per game.

Peetz is not the last candidate the Bucs are set to interview from the McVay tree. The team is also expected to interview Kentucky Wildcats offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who served as OC for the Rams in 2022.

Buccaneers to interview Rams assistant Jake Peetz for OC job

The Buccaneers have moved on from Zac Robinson and will now look at another Rams assistant, Jake Peetz

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers missed out on Zac Robinson in their search for an offensive coordinator after he left the Los Angeles Rams to join Raheem Morris on the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff, so Tampa Bay is looking at another Rams assistant instead.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Buccaneers will interview Rams pass game specialist Jake Peetz for their offensive coordinator position. He’s one of several candidates Tampa Bay is considering, and he’s the latest coach from Sean McVay’s staff to draw interest from another team.

Peetz has bounced between the college and NFL level as a coach, getting his start in the NFL with the Jaguars in 2012. Before joining the Rams as a pass game specialist in 2022, he was the Panthers’ QBs coach in 2020 and LSU’s offensive coordinator in 2021.

Peetz, 39, could be a candidate to replace Robinson as the Rams’ offensive coordinator, but if McVay wants to go that route, he might need to move quickly with the Buccaneers lurking.

Jake Peetz staying with Rams after getting an offer from Nebraska

Jake Peetz is staying with the Rams after getting pursued by Matt Rhule at Nebraska

The Rams are set to lose offensive coaches Liam Coen and Ra’Shaad Samples after the season ends, with both of them accepting jobs at the college level. However, Jake Peetz will not be following that path – at least not this year.

Peetz, an offensive assistant on Sean McVay’s staff, has opted to stay in the NFL with the Rams after getting an offer from Matt Rhule and Nebraska. There’s a ton of turnover on the Rams’ staff every year, so it’s good to see a coach staying in Los Angeles.

Peetz is in his first season with the Rams, joining McVay’s staff after being LSU’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021. He first got his start in the NFL with the Jaguars in 2012 but has bounced between the pro and college levels since.

Rams assistant Jake Peetz expected to become Nebraska’s QBs coach

After just one season with the Rams, Jake Peetz is heading out to join Matt Rhule’s staff at Nebraska

Jake Peetz joined the Rams’ coaching staff this year as an offensive assistant, but he’s not going to stay beyond the 2022 season. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Peetz is expected to join Matt Rhule’s staff at Nebraska as the quarterbacks coach, also taking on an undetermined role on special teams.

Peetz was hired by Sean McVay this past offseason after working as LSU’s offensive coordinator in 2021. His ties to Rhule stem from their time together on the Panthers’ coaching staff in 2020.

Peetz returns to his alma mater where he played for the Cornhuskers from 2003-2005, lining up as a defensive back and long snapper at Nebraska.

The Rams have struggled mightily on offense this season, ranking 29th in points scored and 31st in total yards. That can’t be blamed on Peetz, of course, and is largely due to the injuries suffered on the offensive line and to key players such as Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford.

Peetz got his start in the NFL with the Jaguars in 2012 and has bounced back and forth from college to the pros. This will be his latest jump back to the college level.

Pair of former LSU coordinators heading back to the NFL

Jake Peetz and Daronte Jones, who each spent the 2021 season in Baton Rouge, are returning to coaching positions in the NFL.

In an attempt to bounce back from the frustrating 5-5 season in 2020 that followed a 15-0 national championship run, former Tigers coach Ed Orgeron hired a pair of coordinators from the NFL ranks: Jake Peetz (offense) and Daronte Jones (defense).

However, Orgeron was fired after another disappointing finish in 2021, and new coach Brian Kelly opted not to retain either coordinator. Both have landed on their feet, though, back in the NFL.

Peetz is heading to Los Angeles to serve as the quarterbacks coach on Sean McVay’s Rams staff, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Jones is returning to Minnesota to serve as defensive backs coach, the role he held before his one season in Baton Rouge.

Before that role, Jones spent two seasons as the cornerbacks coach with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Peetz came from Carolina where he was the quarterbacks coach under former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who was hired there as the offensive coordinator following the championship season. Peetz was the running backs coach for the Panthers before that following stints as an offensive assistant at Alabama and the quarterbacks coach for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Peetz has experience working with McVay; both coached for the Washington Commanders in 2014.

Things didn’t work out for Peetz and Jones in their one season with the Tigers, but it seems both have landed on their feet with solid jobs in the league.

Sean McVay brings Jake Peetz aboard to Rams’ new-look coaching staff

Sean McVay and the Rams are adding Jake Peetz to their coaching staff for the 2022 season.

The Los Angeles Rams have wasted no time reshuffling their coaching staff following their Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. They’re expected to hire Liam Coen as their next offensive coordinator, and the Rams are also adding LSU’s Jake Peetz to Sean McVay’s coaching staff.

Coen replaces Kevin O’Connell, who left to become the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. O’Connell also poached Wes Phillips — the Rams’ tight ends coach — to be his offensive coordinator in Minnesota, leaving Los Angels with another void on their coaching staff.

Besides bringing back Coen, the Rams are also bringing back Greg Olson, along with giving Thomas Brown more responsibilities with the offense. It remains to be seen what Peetz’s role will be with the team, but he’s had experience in multiple areas throughout his coaching career.

As NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport pointed out, Peetz has previous experience with McVay. The two spent time together in 2014 on the Washington Commanders when McVay was the offensive coordinator and Peetz was an offensive quality control coach.

Since McVay and Peetz’s previous stint together, Peetz has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders, Alabama, the Carolina Panthers, and LSU. Altogether, he’s been a running backs coach, quarterbacks coach, and just this past year, he was the offensive coordinator at LSU.

Once again, it’s undetermined what Peetz’s role with the Rams will be as McVay continues to reshape his coaching staff for next season. Amid the musical chairs going on in Los Angeles, it’s apparent that McVay wants to fill out his coaching staff with familiar faces.

Instant Analysis: Five takeaways from LSU’s loss to Kansas State

Instant takeaways from the 42-20 loss in the Texas Bowl.

What was a ugly season for LSU came to an ugly end Tuesday night in the Texas Bowl.

Kansas State jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. It was not a good night for LSU in any phase of the game.

But to be fair, with all the roster issues LSU is experiencing, nobody expected it would be. The offense never found any rhythm, the defense couldn’t get off the field, and even special teams gave up some big returns.

On the other side, Kansas State had it clicking. Quarterback Skylar Thompson had one of the best games of his career and running back Deuce Vaughn once again went over 100 yards. On defense, Kansas State was able to force some turnovers that set up a couple scores as well.

It wasn’t just LSU’s roster that was shorthanded, but their coaching staff was too. LSU had to rely on analysts and graduate assistants to have a full staff in Houston tonight.

In a lot of ways, this was an end of an era for LSU as they will now try and put a lot of the ugliness of the last two years behind them. Next time they take the field, they will be led by Brian Kelly.

For now, let’s take a look at some takeaway’s from tonight’s loss.
