Seahawks add 4 more assistant coaches to Mike Macdonald’s staff

On Thursday we received word of three more assistants getting hired by Seattle.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is ramping up his coaching staff for the 2024 season. Since Thursday we received word of four more assistants getting hired by Seattle.

According to Mike Garafolo at NFL Network, the team is hiring Rams pass game specialist Jake Peetz as their new pass game coordinator.

Before he joined Sean McVay’s staff Peetz put in time with a ton of different college and NFL teams, including UCLA, the Jaguars, the Raiders, Alabama, the Commanders and the Panthers. Here Peetz will be working under Seattle’s new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who spent the last two seasons calling plays for Washington.

Additionally, the team announced yesterday that they have added Devin Fitzsimmons as an assistant special teams coach.

Fitzsimmons also comes with a lot of experience. This will be his 12th season coaching special teams between college and the NFL. With the Seahawks Fitzsimmons will be serving under special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh, son of Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. He had been working as Michigan’s special teams coordinator under his dad last season when they won the national title.

Also, Jeremy Fowler at ESPN is reporting that Frisman Jackson is getting hired as the team’s new wide receivers coach.

After his playing career was over, Jackson served as wide receivers coach at a bunch of different college programs, including Temple and Baylor. He followed Matt Rhule to the Panthers, serving in the same role there for two years, followed by two years as the Steelers’ wide receiver coach.

Finally, according to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, the Seahawks are hiring Kennedy Polamalu as their running backs coach.

Polamalu also has extensive experience coaching at both levels. Most recently he has been the running backs coach for the Vikings from 2017-2021 and then the Raiders for the last two seasons.

Seahawks hiring 3 former Panthers coaches

The Seahawks are hiring a few familiar names to their coaching staff.

The pipeline between Charlotte and Seattle apparently goes both ways.

On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers announced the final touches to their 2024 coaching staff. Joining the sideline will be five new assistants, all of which have spent at least part of their coaching careers with the Seattle Seahawks.

Not to be completely outdone, the Seahawks plucked a trio of former Panthers for themselves—Devin Fitzsimmons, Jake Peetz and Frisman Jackson.

Fitzsimmons, the most recent member of the organization, was officially hired by Seattle as their new assistant special teams coach. He served in the same role for Carolina this past season.

Peetz, as first reported by NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, has been added as the team’s pass game coordinator. The Nebraska native was hired by the Panthers as a running backs coach for 2019 and was retained by Matt Rhule as a quarterbacks coach for 2020.

Jackson, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, is on as the wide receivers coach—the same position he had in Carolina between 2020 and 2021.

Steelers on the hunt for a new WR coach after letting Frisman Jackson go

The Steelers have cut ties with Frisman Jackson.

In what could be considered a surprising move, the Pittsburgh Steelers have cut ties with wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson. Jackson’s contract was up after serving as the team’s wide receivers coach for the past three seasons.

Jackson was hired after Ike Hilliard was let go. This position has been a revolving door since the passing of Darryl Drake.

The Steelers are working hard to get the offense in order with the addition of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. We expect to see multiple staffing changes as Smith brings in a new system.

In terms of a replacement, fans are going to clamor for Hines Ward to come in and replace Jackson. Another name to keep an eye on is former Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore. Moore was the wide receivers coach of the Titans when Smith was the offensive coordinator and was let go by the team with the change of coaching staff there.

Panthers reportedly hiring Boston College’s Joe Dailey as new WR coach

Matt Rhule and the Panthers went a little out of the box with an interesting hire for their new wide receivers coach.

When Frisman Jackson moved on out to Pittsburgh, the Carolina Panthers suddenly had yet another void to fill on their fluctuating coaching staff. Well, that void will apparently be filled by a pretty intriguing name.

According to ESPN college football senior writer Pete Thamel, the Panthers are hiring Joe Dailey as their new wide receivers coach.

The 38-year-old has more than a decade’s worth of experience behind the scenes, with his most recent gig coming at Boston College as their wide receivers coach over the past two seasons. Prior to his stop with the Eagles, he headed the quarterback position for Bethune-Cookman University (2011), Liberty University (2012 to 2018) and the University of New Mexico (2019)—having also served as the offensive coordinator for the Flames and Lobos.

And why was he a quarterbacks coach? Because he was a quarterback!

Dailey was recruited as one of the nation’s top dual-threat passers by the University of Nebraska, where he played in 2003 and 2004. The Jersey City, N.J. native then transferred colleges (and positions) to the University of North Carolina, moving from under center to out wide as a receiver for his 2006 junior campaign.

As noted by our buddy John Ellis, Dailey will be the first Panthers wide receivers coach in their 27-year history not to have prior NFL coaching experience.

Former Browns WR takes coaching job with Steelers

Jackson spent four years with the Browns and joined the coaching ranks shortly after leaving the league. Now he joins an AFC North rival:

The Cleveland Browns continue to be the center of new coaching hires in the NFL. With so many coaches and players churning through the organization over the past two decades, it isn’t a surprise that some of them become coaches other places.

What might be a surprise is that so many are becoming head coaches and that so many, head coaches and position coaches, are being hired in the same offseason.

So far the following former Browns employees have gotten coaching jobs in the NFL since the end of the 2021 regular season:

  • Brian Daboll – New York Giants head coach
  • Matt Eberflus – Chicago Bears head coach
  • Kevin O’Connell – Minnesota Vikings head coach (Expected not official)
  • Mike McDaniel – Miami Dolphins head coach
  • Doug Pederson – Jacksonville Jaguars head coach
  • Jim Dray – Chicago Bears tight ends coach

Tuesday, we have another former Cleveland player taking a position coach job, this time with the rival Pittsburgh Steelers:

Jackson has been coaching since 2008 after finishing his playing career in 2007. He was with the Carolina Panthers the last two years joining Matt Rhule who he had coached under at Baylor University prior to that.

For the Browns, Jackson played four seasons catching 40 passes for 490 yards and one touchdown.

Along with all the coaches coming from former Cleveland employees, Jackson joins Sashi Brown in joining an AFC North rival. Brown recently took over as president of the Baltimore Ravens in a surprising move.

Panthers WR coach Frisman Jackson leaves for Steelers

Panthers WR coach Frisman Jackson, who has spent six of the last seven years working under Matt Rhule, is now headed to the Steelers.

So, uh, the Carolina Panthers suddenly now have two spots to fill (again) on their 2022 coaching staff.

In a relatively unusual development, wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson will be headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers—where he’ll assume the very same duties. The hire is somewhat odd considering Pittsburgh did not bring back the highly-respected Ike Hilliard for the position and that Jackson seems to be making a lateral move.

. . . or is it?

Jackson was brought over to Carolina by head coach Matt Rhule in 2020. The former wideout also coached under Rhule at both Temple University in 2015 and 2016 and Baylor University in 2018 and 2019.

Of course, Jackson likely has his various reasons for the decision. But with Rhule’s seat being hotter than ever, the timing of the departure seems rather interesting—especially considering the two have spent six of the last seven years working together.

Regardless, Rhule is now on the hunt to address two vacancies—one to replace Jackson and one to head the team’s defensive line.

Report: Falcons interviewed Panthers WRs coach for their OC position

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Falcons have interviewed Jackson for their open offensive coordinator position under new coach Arthur Smith.

Panthers offensive coaches have been a hod commodity this offseason, with several assistants leaving for other jobs and coordinator Joe Brady interviewing for five head coach positions.

Wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson is the latest to get interest from another team. According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Falcons have interviewed Jackson for their open offensive coordinator position under new coach Arthur Smith. Jackson has also interviewed for Carolina’s quarterbacks coach job, which was vacated by Jake Peetz when he was hired by LSU.

Jackson has previous experience with Smith from 2017 when they were on the Titans’ staff together. After that season, Jackson went to Baylor to be Matt Rhule’s wide receivers coach, then followed him to Carolina.

The OC position in Atlanta has to be more enticing for Jackson than QBs coach. The Falcons offense has not reached its potential the last few years thanks to Dirk Koetter’s play-calling. However, they still have the best wide receiver on the planet, the best No. 2, a solid starting quarterback and the No. 4 overall pick in the draft.

Falcons interviewed Panthers’ Frisman Jackson for OC

The Atlanta Falcons have been linked to a few different names as new head coach Arthur Smith looks to fill out his coaching staff.

The Falcons continue to be linked to different names as head coach Arthur Smith looks to fill out his staff. On Monday, it was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Atlanta interviewed Frisman Jackson, the Carolina Panthers’ wide receivers coach, for the team’s offensive coordinator vacancy.

Jackson spent time with the Titans as the receivers coach back in 2017 before joining Baylor in the same role for the next two years. In 2020, he joined Panthers head coach Matt Rhule’s staff and helped Carolina’s receivers have a productive season.

Two Panthers wideouts, Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore, went over 1,000 yards this year, and Curtis Samuel caught 77 balls for 851 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

The other two names being linked to the Falcons’ openings are former Titans and Ravens defensive coordinator, Dean Pees, and Bears passing game coordinator Dave Ragone.

Report: Panthers coach Matt Rhule hiring 2 of his former Baylor coaches

Panthers coach Matt Rhule is building his staff, which will include a lot of familiar faces for him.

Panthers coach Matt Rhule is building his staff, which will include a lot of familiar faces for him. Just before Sunday’s conference championship games got started, we learned of two new hires thanks to some weekend social media sleuthing by the Charlotte Observer.

First, Frisman Jackson has been hired as the team’s new wide receivers coach. Jackson broke the news by sharing their logo as his new profile pic on Twitter (H/T Alaina Getzenberg).

A native of Chicago, Jackson played college ball at Western Illinois and then was a wide receiver for the Browns four years.

As far as his coaching career goes, Jackson is one of several assistants who are expected to make the jump with Rhule from Baylor to the Panthers. He also worked with Rhule at Temple. Jackson has coaching experience in the NFL, working as the Titans’ wide receivers coach in 2017. Jackson held the same role for North Carolina State from 2013-2014.

In related news, the team has hired Jeremy Scott as their new strength and conditioning coach, per Getzenberg.

Scott replaces Joe Kenn, who had the job since 2011. His contract was set to expire at the end of the month.
