It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

5-star linebacker set to give Clemson another look

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Buford (Ga.) 2025 five-star linebacker Jadon Perlotte will be in attendance for this Saturday’s game against N.C. State. Perlotte confirmed as much on social media this past weekend.

Perlotte, who was recently designated as a five-star prospect, will make his way to campus for the first time since March 12. Clemson left a major impression on him and his mother during the program’s underclassmen day, and even though he didn’t find his way to Tiger Town this past summer, he’s making his way back to campus this weekend.

When we caught up with Perlotte back in May, he had been in contact with Kavell Conner, who is in his first season serving in defensive player development on Dabo Swinney’s staff.

“He said he (saw) me blow up and he asked me if I was still loyal,” Perlotte began to recall with a chuckle. “He asked me if I was still interested (in Clemson). He wanted to know how I was feeling.”

Perlotte, who ranks as the nation’s No. 4 linebacker and the No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, currently holds over 20 scholarship offers from just about every high-profile Power Five program.

If Clemson were eventually to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer, what would that mean for Perlotte and his recruitment?

“It’d mean everything,” he said. “That’s one of my dream schools. They’d definitely be right up there.”

Perlotte actually said at the time — May 10 — that he was looking to get back on campus in a couple of weeks, so he could show his father around campus. Obviously, that never materialized, but he’ll have a chance to experience his first gameday in The Valley this Saturday.

One of Perlotte’s teammates at Buford, KingJoseph Edwards, will also be in attendance.

Edwards, who 247Sports considers to be the nation’s No. 4 athlete and the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2024, was originally planning to visit for the Syracuse game on Oct. 22 but confirmed to TCI on Monday that he has since moved up his visit to this weekend.

“Yes, I’ve never been,” Edwards said in a message to TCI on Monday when asked if he was looking forward to visiting this weekend.

Carolinas WR excited to take in first Clemson gameday visit

Clemson is set to play host to a number of high-profile targets this weekend, but few are more important than Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings 2024 four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor.

Paylor has been prioritized by Tyler Grisham ever since Clemson’s wide receivers coach pulled the trigger on a scholarship offer back in June. Paylor heard from Grisham as soon as he could directly contact prospects in the class of 2024 like Paylor on Sept. 1.

“It was pretty urgent,” Paylor told TCI earlier this month. “He was like literally the first person who texted and called me. He sent me a text about how excited he is to go on this journey that we’re gonna continue to build on.”

“It’s showing me that he’s very interested in me in a player like me,” Paylor continued. “It just goes to show that he’s really engaged and really serious about who he recruits and how he recruits them.”

Paylor is set to be at Clemson this weekend and he’ll return to Memorial Stadium at the end of the regular season for the South Carolina game. Following this weekend, he’ll visit Maryland and Tennessee, while also paying N.C. State another visit and making multiple trips to the University of South Carolina.

“That game is going to be big,” Paylor said of this weekend’s game against N.C. State. “I swear, I know it is. I’m really ready to see what kind of season they have as they bounce back from last season. Because last season they didn’t really have a season that Clemson usually has. They put in all this hard work over the summer. (I’m excited) to see what kind of impact it had over the summer and just seeing how the team will react.”

Big Georgia OL loved recent Clemson visit

Among the prospects who attended Clemson’s win over Louisiana Tech, two Saturdays ago was Gabriel Fortson, an offensive lineman in the class of 2023 from North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw, Ga.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior told TCI he “loved every second” of the visit.

It was Fortson’s second gameday visit to Clemson but first for a night game at Death Valley, and he came away very impressed.

“The stadium was packed out, and you could barely even hear yourself think,” he said

Fortson was accompanied by his mother, who loves Clemson as well. They were able to spend a good bit of time with Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin, and Fortson said he felt their relationship with him “definitely” grew stronger.

A big part of the visit that stood out to Fortson, he said, was seeing how the Tigers played the Louisiana Tech game in tribute to Ella Bresee, the younger sister of Bryan who sadly passed away at 15 years old following her 18-month battle with brain cancer.

“It shows the type of culture that they have there,” Fortson said.

Prior to visiting Clemson, Fortson saw the Tigers play in their season opener against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, as a guest of the Yellow Jackets. He feels Georgia Tech and UCF are the schools showing him the most love so far, as well as Clemson more recently.

Georgia Tech and UCF have offered Fortson, along with schools such as North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri.

Clemson, he said, is one of his “dream schools.”

Tigers set to host top cornerback target

One of the top defensive back prospects planning to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game is Tavoy Feagin, a four-star cornerback from Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Fla.

Feagin, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, was the first player at his position to receive an offer from Clemson when the Tigers began dispensing offers to class of 2024 recruits back on June 1.

After traveling to Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March, Feagin made his way back to campus on June 2. Later in June, he included the Tigers among his top 10 schools, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

“The reason why I put Clemson in my top 10 was because I really like the coaching staff and the atmosphere,” he said to TCI after dropping the list.

Feagin’s father, Michael, played defensive back at Alabama in the 1990s when Dabo Swinney was on the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

Mike Reed is spearheading Clemson’s recruitment of Feagin, who communicates regularly with Reed and has plenty of respect for the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach – both for the job he does on the field, and who he is off the field as well.

“I always stay in contact with Coach Reed,” Feagin said, “because not only is he a great coach, he’s also a great person and mentor.”

Feagin is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Priority local OL planning to visit Saturday

A priority local offensive line target is slated to be back on campus this weekend.

Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks is planning to attend Saturday’s game.

Franks participated in the Swinney Camp this summer and has visited Clemson multiple times since this past March.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound junior received an offer from Clemson in late July.

He has heard from Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin and other members of the Tigers’ staff since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“He (Austin) told me I’m a big priority,” Franks said to TCI recently, “and that he’s going to come to one of our games this year.”

Franks holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

He told TCI earlier this month that while he didn’t know at the time which schools comprise his top five, he definitely thinks Clemson “is high up there” on his list.

Fast-rising receiver headed to Tiger Town this weekend

Clemson is set to play host to another fast-rising receiver prospect in the class of 2024 this weekend. King George (Va.) 2024 three-star Mekhai White confirmed his visit plans to TCI on Monday night.

White has been in contact with Tyler Grisham and Mike Reed since Sept. 1. According to White, Clemson really likes how he spreads the field and they’re really interested in him as a prospect going forward.

White was unable to make it down in June when Clemson originally invited him to a game. White said that Grisham told him to come down for a game and he’ll see what happens.

“It would mean a lot,” White said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “A school like that giving me a scholarship would be awesome. It would be great.”

The Clemson-N.C. State game will be White’s third gameday visit this year and his first to Clemson. So far this season, he’s made his way to two other ACC schools in North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Top safety in class of 2024 set to visit UF for this SEC matchup

The guest list for Florida’s October 15 matchup against LSU grew by one more, and now the Gators are expecting one of the top defensive backs in the class of 2024 on campus.

The latest name to lock in a visit to the University of Florida is [autotag]KJ Bolden[/autotag], a five-star safety out of Buford, Georgia.

Bolden plans to be in Gainesville on October 15 for the LSU game, according to Gators Online, making him the latest high-profile recruit to lock in a visit for that matchup. He will join two of his Buford teammates on the trip, four-star edge rusher [autotag]KingJoseph Edwards[/autotag] and the No. 3 linebacker in the class of 2025, [autotag]Jadon Perlotte[/autotag].

The Gators have played host to Bolden a few times already. He met with Dan Mullen’s staff last year and is already familiar with Billy Napier’s group after stopping by in March and June. This will be his first game-day visit to the Swamp, though, so Florida could make up a good deal of ground if all goes well.

Leading the pack is the University of Georgia, which is taking full advantage of Bolden’s proximity to the school. He’s been to Athens nine times already, including the Bulldogs’ Week 2 shutout victory over Samford. UGA sits on top of the On3 recruiting prediction machine with a 35.0% chance to land Bolden. Clemson (10.4%), Alabama (8.9%) and Florida (7.4%) follow.

The On3 consensus ranks Bolden No. 4 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 1 among safeties. The site’s individual rankings have him a bit lower at No. 20 overall, but he’s still considered the top safety in the class. 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals have him ranked in a similar place.

The Insider Report: Upcoming visitors, what’s next for Clemson’s 2023 class and more

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

Notes on Clemson commits

If you’ve been following our recruiting coverage as of late, you’d know that we’ve spoken to a couple of high school head coaches, who coach Clemson’s class of 2023 commits.

We spoke to both Matthew Forester, who coaches five-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina at Birmingham (Alabama) Briarwood Christian School and Ben Reaves, who coaches four-star safety Robert Billings at Alpharetta (Georgia) Milton High School.

With Forester, we asked Briarwood’s head coach about the usage of the run-pass option in the Lions’ offense and how it could benefit Vizzina before he heads off to Clemson.

“That’s something I think for me personally, I got comfortable with this year,” Forester said. “And so, we’re doing a pretty good bit of that throughout the summer and fall camp. It’s something that as the season goes, we’ll bring more and more into that. A couple of big catches from (Week 1) were just RPOs and him reading an out.”

The run-pass option has been a fixture in Clemson’s offense for quite some time now, so getting comfortable with those types of offensive concepts would certainly benefit Vizzina before he graduates into a college offense in January.

“I think it’ll be a neat thing,” Forester continued. “I think (Brandon) Streeter will use that. I think it’ll be an enjoyable part of his growth. I think it’ll be something when he goes to Clemson, there won’t be a concept that he doesn’t feel comfortable translating high school into Clemson.”

Talking with Reaves, the line of questioning was similar in the sense that it revolved around Billings at the next level, but he gave a better feel for what his expectations are and what position we could see the big-time safety play at the next.

“What he’s got going for him is that he’s got such a big frame,” Reaves said. “He’s so long and so fast, that they can literally mold him into whatever they want him to be. Anywhere from a safety to potentially an outside backer, just because he’s got the body that can do it. The body that can handle it. And the skills to go along with it.

“I think ultimately, he’s gonna be best fit being a strong safety because that’s just gonna put him closer to contact and that’s what he’s good at — finding the ball, getting to the ball and knocking the crap out of somebody, play after play. I think ultimately that’ll be a role that’ll fit him and he’ll enjoy.”

Commit on what’s next for Clemson’s 2023 class

Speaking of Clemson’s class of 2023 commits, we recently spoke with Alpharetta (Georgia) St Francis High’s Branden Strozier. While the four-star cornerback has enjoyed a strong start to his senior season, we asked him about the uncommitted prospects that he and the rest of the commits are focused on recruiting at the moment.

While we’ve already shed light on those two prospects, Strozier offered his thoughts on recruiting both Phenix City (Alabama) Central high four-star defensive end Tomarrion Parker and Suwanee (Georgia) North Gwinnett high four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald.

Parker, who picked up an offer from Clemson on Aug. 11, has already set two gameday visits. As we previously reported, Parker will be on campus for Clemson’s home opener against Furman on Sept. 10 for an unofficial visit. He’ll return to Tiger Town the weekend of Oct. 22 for Clemson’s game against Syracuse.

As for McDonald, who reported a Clemson offer back in May, he announced a commitment date of Oct. 31. Right now, McDonald is set to take his official visit the weekend of Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, for the South Carolina game. Likely, McDonald will also make his way back up to Clemson for a game day visit before he ultimately makes his decision.

“That’s the ones that we are really trying to get,” Strozier said. “Because before them, we were focused on getting Ronan (Hanafin). Once we got Ronan, they are the priorities now. That’s what we are looking to get.”

Prospects lining up game-day visits

We wanted to shed some light on some upcoming game day visits. We fully expect Willis (Texas) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway and Jefferson (Georgia) five-star linebacker Sammy Brown to make gameday visits this fall. Neither one has officially set a date, but the expectation is that it will be settled after Sept. 1, when Clemson’s coaching staff can directly contact both junior prospects.

One prospect that has already set a game day visit, as we previously reported, is Fort Lauderdale (Florida) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star wide receiver James Madison II, who will be at Memorial Stadium for the Clemson-N.C. State game on Saturday, Oct. 1.

“I’m really excited,” Madison said. “I know they go all in for game days. I’m really excited to be up there.”

Another prospect that plans on making a game-day visit to Memorial Stadium this fall is Buford (Georgia) four-star linebacker Jadon Perlotte. The sophomore in the class of 2025 was looking at visiting Clemson this summer, but that didn’t end up materializing.

While he wasn’t able to say which game he was attending, Perlotte said that it’ll be one of Clemson’s first games. It’ll be his first time in Tiger Town since March 12.

Perlotte (6-4, 210) currently ranks as the nation’s No. 5 linebacker and the No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Time for Clemson fans to make sure the Tigers are competitive with South Carolina in NIL for baseball.

Top 2025 linebacker prospect sets another visit to Florida

A top 2025 LB prospect Jadon Perlotte will be visiting Florida for the 2nd time this upcoming fall planning on attending the LSU vs UF game.

Billy Napier is making it a priority to establish a relationship early on in the recruiting process. This mentality seems to be paying dividends with 2025 linebacker prospect [autotag]Jadon Perlotte[/autotag] set to make another visit to Gainesville this fall.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound rising sophomore is considered to be one of the top prospects in the 2025 class. The Buford (Georgia) High linebacker holds offers from over 25 programs including Ohio State, Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, Oregon and Miami, as well as Florida.

The Gators are hoping to make another good impression when Perlotte makes his return to Gainesville on October 15 for the highly anticipated game against LSU. Napier not only will be looking to impress Perlotte and other recruits, but he may have a personal motive to prove to the Tigers that passing him up for the head coaching job, given his resume and accolades up the road at Louisiana, was a mistake.

Perlotte being in attendance is one way of showing LSU what they missed out on given the recruiting rules laid out for 2025 prospects. As of now, programs are not permitted to directly reach out that class, meaning that in order for the Gators staff to speak with Perlotte, Perlotte must be the one to initiate contact.

This is a good sign, given how early in the process Perlotte is in his recruiting. Napier is going to need to put work in to land the highly touted LB, with Perlotte telling Gators Online that Ohio State and Georgia are the schools he is keeping up with the most. He is planning on visiting both programs this upcoming season.

Let’s hope that Perlotte’s visit when the Tigers come to town is impactful enough to catapult the Gators towards the top of his list.

LSU offers 2025 linebacker from Georgia

Jadon Perlotte is the latest of several players the Tigers have offered from Buford High School.

[autotag]Jadon Perlotte[/autotag] is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound linebacker from Buford, Georgia, where he plays for Buford High School. The Buford Wolves finished last season 14-1 with a win in the 6A state championship game over Langston Hughes High School. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has been reaching into the Buford well a lot here lately as he has sent multiple offers to athletes from there over the past few months.

Film Analysis: Perlotte split time last year between the junior varsity and varsity squad for the Wolves, so it is hard to evaluate his talent level. You can see that he is a good athlete, though, as he makes some good tackles and does a great job of rushing the quarterback and disrupting plays.

Clemson makes major impression on top Georgia LB, mother

Clemson made a huge impression recently while playing host to one of the nation’s top young linebacker prospects, who hails from the Peach State. Buford (Ga.) linebacker Jadon Perlotte – a 6-foot-4, 200-pound freshman in the 2025 class – made his …

Clemson made a huge impression recently while playing host to one of the nation’s top young linebacker prospects, who hails from the Peach State.

Buford (Ga.) linebacker Jadon Perlotte —  a 6-foot-4, 200-pound freshman in the 2025 class — made his return visit to campus on Saturday, March 12 for the Tigers’ underclassmen day.

“I loved it,” Perlotte said of his Clemson visit. “My mom loved it. She really wants me to go there.”

What did Perlotte hear from Clemson’s coaching staff while he was on campus?

“The coaching staff showed a lot of love,” he said. “They recognized me when I came in there and interacted with me the whole time I was there. They want me to keep working and they want me to come to play up there.”

“My favorite part of (the visit) was interacting with all the coaches,” Perlotte continued. “Them showing that much love to me shows me that they really want me there.”

This wasn’t Perlotte’s first time on campus. He participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer and even as a rising freshman was moved to the top group with rising seniors and juniors. According to Perlotte, the coaches told him at the time that they really liked what they saw from him and just to keep working.

“Clemson’s a school that I would want to go to,” he said. “My mom loved it. She loved how Dabo Swinney is and how he views his players.”

While he was on campus, Perlotte spent his time around Clemson’s linebackers and Wesley Goodwin. He indicated that his position at the next level would be as a WILL (weakside) linebacker.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Goodwin,” Perlotte said of Clemson’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. “I really love that coach. I feel like he’s doing a good job with his linebackers. “They looked really good while I was out there watching practice. He always makes his players work hard. I ain’t seen known of them jogging around, they were all running to the ball.

“I feel like the way I’m built and how I play is very similar to how they do it,” he said. “All their linebackers look just like how I play.”

As for Perlotte and his game, he describes himself as a player, who can play anywhere and anything. He can play safety, he can play inside or outside linebacker and he can rush the quarterback.

He’s heard a lot of people compare him to former Clemson standout Isaiah Simmons.

“Like Coach Goodwin told me (a couple of weeks ago), he said Barrett Carter is that linebacker, who can play inside, outside and rush the quarterback,” Perlotte said. “He said Barrett can play anywhere. That’s kind of how I base myself on. I play Will, I cover people. I can do whatever you want me to.”

Perlotte feels like his freshman season went pretty well. Every time he made it into a varsity game, he made plays. Perlotte was behind two Division 1 commits — Michigan State and Kansas State — so that played a factor in why he didn’t see the field as much.

Right now, Perlotte is training as a defensive back and working on his speed and footwork, so he can play any position that his high school wants him to.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Perlotte visited Georgia on Saturday, March. 19 and is planning on taking visits to the University of Miami and the University of Oklahoma as well.
