Dolphins sign former Ravens DL Isaiah Mack

The Dolphins add a defensive lineman before free agency starts.

The start of the new league year and the opening of the NFL’s free agency period is still about a week away, but the Miami Dolphins are already adding players at positions of need.

On Tuesday, the team announced that they’ve signed defensive lineman Isaiah Mack.

Mack, 27, was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2019 following a collegiate career at Chattanooga.

The 2018 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year made the Titans roster out of camp as a rookie but was waived midway through his second season.

He spent the rest of the 2020 season with the New England Patriots before joining the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens in 2021.

Mack stuck around with the Ravens through December 2022. Since then, he’s spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Washington Commanders.

In his career, Mack has recorded 17 tackles (three for a loss), four quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery in 25 games played.

Obviously, he has a connection with new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who was his position coach in 2021 and 2022 in Baltimore.

Now, Mack has the opportunity to compete with Brandon Pili for depth snaps in the interior.

Ravens announce two roster moves on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens made two roster moves on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens are preparing to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night in Week 17.  The team looks to bring the winning streak to two, while eliminating the Steelers from playoff contention and giving Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin his first-ever losing season in the Steelers organization.

In the first of many moves before the game on Sunday, the Ravens announced that they have released defensive tackle Isaiah Mack. The team also announced that they signed inside linebacker Josh Bynes to their practice squad just a few days after releasing him from the active roster.

Mack was signed to the 53-man roster before Week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons.  Before that, he was called up for Thursday Night Football in Week 8 in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers. He was a training camp and preseason standout for the team, and has made an impact when on the field.

Bynes will provide a steady presence to the practice squad, as his spot on the roster wasn’t as needed with the acquisition of inside linebacker Roquan Smith. He could be called up to the active roster on game days if needed, especially if Baltimore suffers an injury at the position.

Ravens sign DL Isaiah Mack to Reserve/Future deal

The Ravens signed defensive lineman Isaiah Mack to a Reserve/Future deal

The Baltimore Ravens went through a litany of injury issues during the 2021 season. They saw players miss multiple weeks, months, and even the entire year with ailments, and thus the team had to find contributions from other avenues.

One way that Baltimore was able to get production in a different way was by signing and calling up players from their practice squad to play in key moments. Defensive lineman Isaiah Mack was one of those that contributed, and according to the NFL’s Thursday personnel notice the team signed him to a Reserve/Future deal, ensuring he sticks around with the Ravens for at least a little bit longer.

Mack signed with Baltimore’s practice squad in November, and was called up for multiple games over the course of his time in Baltimore during 2021. His best game came in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he finished the contest with one sack of Joe Burrow, with another being called back due to a penalty. He will provide defensive line depth as long as he’s with the team.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 18 matchup vs. Steelers

The Ravens announced their inactive players for their Week 18 game against the Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens are set to conclude their 2021 regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18. It should be a hard fought and physical game, just like the many matchups of years past between the two teams.

Before the game, Baltimore announced their inactive players for the contest. It was a long shot for Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to start this week due to the fact that he’s only practiced one time since injuring his ankle during the game against the Cleveland Browns, and he once again headlines the inactives after being ruled out on Friday.

Wide receiver James Proche II is also inactive today for the second straight week.  It’s unfortunate for Proche because it would be nice to see what he can do and improve on the game he had against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rookie outside linebacker Odafe Oweh is out for the second-straight week with a foot injury, It would’ve been nice for Oweh to sack Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in front of Terrell Suggs, who is being honored as the legend of the game for the Ravens. The rest of the inactives for Baltimore consist of guard Ben Powers, tight end Tony Poljan, defensive lineman Isaiah Mack and cornerback Anthony Averett.

Pittsburgh also announced their inactives for the contest.

Ravens protect four players on practice squad ahead of Week 18

The Ravens protected four players on their practice squad ahead of their Week 18 matchup with the Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens have gotten plenty of solid contributions from their practice squad over the course of the 2021 season. They’ve needed to rely on their practice squad more than some teams, as they’ve dealt with countless injuries as well as a COVID-19 outbreak.

On Tuesday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic put out who Baltimore protected from their practice squad ahead of their Week 18 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The four that the team ended up protecting are tight end Tony Poljan, guard/defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie, defensive tackle Isaiah Mack and defensive back Robert Jackson.

Poljan could be called up as tight end depth, although the team does already have Mark Andrews, Nick Boyle and Josh Oliver at the position. McKenzie has positional versatility, being able to play at guard and defensive tackle, while Mack had a great game in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals when called upon. Jackson has been called up multiple times to help in the secondary, playing significant snaps during some games.

Ravens make three practice squad moves on Tuesday, protect four players ahead of Week 17

The Ravens made three moves relating to their practice squad on Tuesday while also protecting four other players

The Baltimore Ravens have needed to find needless contributors from their practice squad over the course of the 2021 season. Injuries, COVID and even more have decimated the Baltimore roster, so they’ve needed to find other ways to put players out on the field.

On Tuesday, the Ravens made three practice squad moves in adding center James Murray to the group while releasing quarterback Kenji Bahar and defensive back Blake Countess. They also protected offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith, defensive lineman Kahlil McKenzie and Isaiah Mack, as well as defensive back Robert Jackson.

Murray worked out for Baltimore last week, and now finds himself in Baltimore. Bahar was signed in an emergency situation, and has been in and out of the Ravens’ organization countless times over the course of the year. Countess signed with the team a few weeks ago.

Jones-Smith would provide some offensive tackle depth for the Baltimore offense, while both McKenzie and Mack played some good snaps against the Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson has been relied upon to play a lot in a decimated secondary, so him being protected is not surprising.

Ravens make multiple roster moves ahead of Week 12 matchup vs. Browns

The Ravens made multiple roster moves ahead of their Week 12 matchup with the Browns

The Baltimore Ravens currently stand at 7-3 and hold first place in the AFC North. They will face off with the Cleveland Browns in Week 12. They have maneuvered through countless injuries, slow starts and much more to put together and impressive 2021 season.

Ahead of their matchup with Cleveland on “Sunday Night Football“, Baltimore activated inside linebacker Malik Harrison from injured reserve, signed defensive back Kevon Seymour to the 53-man roster and put safety Ar’Darius Washington on injured reserve. The team also elevated defensive tackle Isaiah Mack from the practice squad to the active roster for the contest.

The Baltimore Ravens have been able to put together a solid practice squad over the course of the 2021 season. In doing so, they’ve seen multiple practice squad players contribute at a high level on game days after being called up to play.

Baltimore continues to shuffle their practice squad, and on Wednesday they added yet another player to it in defensive lineman Isaiah Mack. The move comes one day after the Ravens released Jaryd Jones-Smith from the practice squad. Mack will provide some depth on the interior of the defensive line with it being announced that Derek Wolfe will not suit up for the 2021 season after all.

Prior to signing with Baltimore, Mack had spent time with four NFL teams ever since entering the league in 2019. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans before also having stints with the New England Patriots, the Denver Broncos, and most recently the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s accumulated 11 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery in 21 games as a professional.

Ravens officially announce two moves, work out one player on Tuesday

The Ravens officially announced two roster moves and worked out one player on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens have been busy shaping and reshaping their roster over the course of the 2021 season. Injuries, inconsistent play and more have contributed to how much roster shuffling they have had to do this year.

The team has brought in multiple players at positions of need to try to put together a team that can deliver wins to the city of Baltimore. One of the positions hit hard by injury was at running back, so the team signed multiple veterans, including Le’Veon Bell. Bell was officially released by the Ravens on Tuesday, as was offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith from the practice squad.

Baltimore also worked out defensive tackle Isaiah Mack on Tuesday as they look for some defensive tackle depth after it was revealed that Derek Wolfe will miss the entire 2021 season.

Bell fit in with the Ravens’ culture on the field, buying into the team and being a positive influence with his teammates and coaches. However, on the field he couldn’t seem to find any running room, totaling 83 yards on 31 carries, averaging 2.7 yards per carry. His departure opens up more playing time for fellow running back Ty’Son Williams, as well as potentially practice squad rusher Nate McCrary.
