Last week, 247 sports published their final recruiting rankings for the 2022 recruiting class. Among the players named on that list were UW commits Joe Brunner, Isaac Hamm, and Austin Brown.

The Badgers highest rated player on the list was four-star offensive tackle Joe Brunner. The Whitefish Bay product finished as the No. 143 overall prospect in the 2022 class, the No. 13 offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player in the state of Wisconsin.

Next on that list was four-star defensive end Isaac Hamm out of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. The in-state edge rusher finished as the No. 215 overall prospect in the 2022 class, the No. 29 ranked defensive lineman, and the No. 4 player in the state of Wisconsin.

The third and final Wisconsin commit on the list was four-star safety Austin Brown. The Illinois native finished as the No. 226 overall prospect in the 2022 class, the No. 18 safety, and the No. 6 ranked player in the state of Illinois.

Grading the outside linebacker addition in the 2022 recruiting class

Wisconsin took just one outside linebacker in the 2022 recruiting class. I breakdown Wisconsin’s recruiting process and grade the newest OLB.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbyzzyj3n3jt6m7 player_id=none image=https://badgerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Wisconsin Badgers signed 14 scholarship players during the early signing period of the 2022 recruiting cycle.

And while it’s possible that number could still change, Wisconsin’s class currently ranks 44th in the country, and 11th in the Big Ten – with an average recruiting ranking of (0.87), per 247 sports.

In part eight of a position by position recruiting evaluation series, I will be handing out grades for each position from the early signing period.

So, without further ado, I evaluate the outside linebacker addition.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKER: B+

Commits: (1) Isaac Hamm

An argument could be made that outside linebacker is one of the deepest position groups in the entire program. So, Wisconsin was in position to be picky, and only take someone the program felt had a chance to be a difference maker at the position.

Wisconsin had to wait a while for the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native to commit, but they finally locked Isaac Hamm in to their 2022 class.

Isaac Hamm is a four-star recruit per 247, and totaled 73 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a senior – despite playing with a labrum tear in each shoulder.

Accolades: Named the Large School Defensive Player of the Year, Won the Tim Krumrie Award, given to the top defensive lineman in Wisconsin, WFCA first-team selection as a junior and senior.

Isaac Hamm played defensive end at Sun Prairie, but Wisconsin see’s him as an OLB in their defensive front. Hamm possesses some of the same qualities that TJ Bollers had, making him a versatile option as a pass-rusher or hand in the dirt defensive lineman.

Hamm is someone that already has great size and strength coming out of high school, while also having a frame that allows him to put on more weight if need be. The thing that stands out most about Hamm’s game is the way he explodes getting off the ball and shows good bend for a potential edge rusher.

There are many unknowns about Hamm’s ability in coverage or even how he plays in space, but with the talent ahead of him, he’ll have plenty of time to refine his game. What I can tell you is that he has impressive physical traits for a player his size – all the tools are there for him to be a potential impact player for Jim Leonhard regardless of what position he ends up playing.

Conclusion:

This is a big win for Wisconsin for several reasons: they picked up an impact  pass-rushing prospect to add to an already deep room, and kept a premium in-state player home despite an impressive offer list.

Wisconsin has elevated their recruiting of the outside linebacker position, and the on-field success is assuredly a reason why. The arrow of this position group continues to point up.

BREAKING: Wisconsin lands a commitment from four-star DE Isaac Hamm

BREAKING: Wisconsin lands a commitment from four-star DE Isaac Hamm

The Wisconsin football program just bolstered its class of 2022 in a big way. It landed a commitment from class of 2022 in-state defensive lineman Isaac Hamm, one of the state’s best players in the class.

Hamm is 247Sports’ No. 342 player in the class of 2022 and No. 43 at his position. More importantly, his commitment now ensures Wisconsin lands at least half of the famous “Super Six” (Braelon Allen, Joe Brunner and now Isaac Hamm).

Focus now turns to the last uncommitted four-star recruit in the class: offensive lineman Carson Hinzman. Wisconsin’s class is sure to rise inside the nation’s top 30 if Hinzman follows Hamm with a Wisconsin commitment.

A top Wisconsin 2022 target sets his commitment date

The Wisconsin target is set to announce his commitment this week

Longtime Badger target and four-star 2022 recruit Isaac Hamm is set to announce his commitment per 247Sports. Badger247 was first to report the news about when Hamm will be deciding his school.

The Sun Prairie star is down to just four schools: Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. After spending the majority of time on the defensive line in high school, Hamm has been targeted as an outside linebacker by Wisconsin.

The Badgers State native will be making his decision on Wednesday night. He is the No. 4 class of 2022 player in the state of Wisconsin per 247Sports, and stands at 6-foot-5.

A look at Wisconsin football’s ‘top targets’ in the class of 2022

The Wisconsin Badgers are off and running on the recruiting trail, looking to repeat their program-best class of 2021 performance. Their top

Much has been written and said about the Wisconsin Badgers’ class of 2021, most notably about its place in the program’s history and what it means for the team’s future on the football field.

With the entire class now signed, though, we’re turning attention to the class of 2022 where Wisconsin is already hot on the recruiting trail, already with one of the Badger state’s top recruits signed and another projected to join him.

Wisconsin receives a crystal ball prediction for 2022 four-star in-state DE

Wisconsin picked up a 247Sports crystal ball prediction for 2022 four-star DE Isaac Hamm, the No. 4 player from the state of Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Badgers currently have one recruit in their class of 2022—three-star in-state quarterback Myles Burkett.

Positive news in that regard came today, though, as the Badger football program picked up a 247Sports crystal ball prediction for 2022 four-star defensive end Isaac Hamm, 2022’s No. 4 player from the state of Wisconsin.

The Sun Praire, Wisconsin is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 167 recruit in the class of 2022, the No. 11 strong-side defensive end and, again, the No. 4 player from the state of Wisconsin.

The new prediction came from Notre Dame Insider Tom Loy, now putting him in agreement with Wisconsin Insider Evan Flood and National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu.

Why is the Notre Dame Insider’s pick significant? The Fighting Irish are one of Hamm’s top 4 schools along with the Badgers, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

After landing a program-best class of 2021, the Badgers appear to be gaining some momentum on the class of 2022 recruiting trail with the cycle yet to heat up.

Notre Dame football 2022 defensive recruit wishlist

A look at which defensive players with Notre Dame offer that would be great additions to the 2022 recruiting class.

A few weeks ago, I took a look at which Notre Dame recruits on offense who currently held offers and could potentially join the growing 2022 class. Realistically, some of them could join, some of them might end up elsewhere, but one can wish right? We’ll, it’s time for the other side of the ball, my ’22 defense recruit wishlist for the Irish.

Notre Dame Recruiting update: Two new commits, Styles Jr. falls short and more

A look at the latest recruiting news for Notre Dame Football.

We are back to look at the week that was in Notre Dame recruiting. Already this week there has been plenty of action, from Philip Riley committing back into the 2021 class, the addition of 2021 elite kicker Josh Bryan but that’s not all that has been happening. The Irish have made it to later stages of a few elite players recruitments, multiple preferred walk-on spots offered and more. Also, stay tuned for a Fighting Irish Wire exclusive interview with 2021 offensive line commit Pat Coogan tomorrow.
