The Iowa State student section trolled Caitlin Clark and it (predictably) backfired

Who could have seen this coming, Iowa State?

Somebody might want to tell the Iowa State student section that this was not the move they thought it was.

Sports fans can be so polarizing. They rarely agree on one thing, but when they do, it can produce some of the most unique content, especially student sections. (These dedicated groups of fans are truly electric.) It’s part of what makes the environment at any game so good.

For example, when Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes traveled to Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday to take on the Iowa State Cyclones, the student section decided to tell Clark what they thought of her.

But they forgot she isn’t new to this; she’s true to this. She’s been here before. In high school, fans also called Clark “overrated,” and she proceeded to drop 42 points.

Wednesday night was no different. Clark walked out of the building with 35 points, the win and a new NCAA record. Cold-blooded.

2023 ESPN Events Invitational: Full college basketball tournament schedule and results

Here is your updated schedule for the ESPN Events Invitational with updated matchups beginning today.

Penn State men’s basketball will ramp up the level of difficulty in non-conference play by participating in this year’s ESPN Events Invitational in Florida. The Nittany Lions are one of eight programs participating in this year’s event over the Thanksgiving weekend, and they will help get things started in the first game with a rematch with Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon.

Penn State bounced the Aggies in the first round of last season’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, but a lot has happened with Penn State’s program since that meeting. Penn State went through a coaching change and a good amount of roster turnover as well. The Aggies continued to build and will arrive in Florida with a top-15 ranking in the basketball polls. A bit of revenge will be on the mind for Texas A&M in the first game of this week’s ESPN Events Invitational.

Penn State could also match up with one of last season’s Final Four teams, FAU, or the former program coached by Mike Rhoades, VCU. This could make for a fun weekend for Penn State.

Penn State is making its second appearance in the ESPN Events Invitational, but the last trip did not go well. Penn State went 0-3 in the 2007 tournament with losses to South Carolina, Rider, and UCF. That year’s tournament was won by NC State with a one-point victory over Villanova. The last Big Ten team to win the tournament was Maryland in 2019. It is the only year a Big Ten school has won the tournament. The Big Ten has been represented in 13 of the 16 events.

Here is a full schedule of this year’s ESPN Events Invitational, with TV and stream information and approximate starting times for each game. This tracker will be updated with final scores, photos, and updated matchups as the tournament unfolds, so be sure to bookmark this post for future reference.

Stock Report: Defensive line struggling heading into final regular season game

Oklahoma escaped BYU’s upset bid this past weekend. In our stock report we look at who’s trending up or down before Oklahoma takes on TCU.

Saturday’s win against BYU was all about willpower. Oklahoma didn’t play its best, especially from a defensive standpoint, and yet, the Sooners found a way to escape a scrappy BYU team playing on senior day.

There were some nice moments or individual performances to take away from the game, like Jayden Gibson’s big day, Billy Bowman putting forth his best performance of the season, and Gavin Sawchuk continuing to morph into the bellcow running back his head coach publicly claimed he was looking for.

There were other positives, too, like Jackson Arnold’s performance off the bench, that helped push Oklahoma to victory. With the good comes the bad, and Oklahoma’s front seven was a large part of that bad. They struggled most of the game and were a significant reason BYU was a threat to potentially upset Oklahoma.

When the dust settled, the Sooners came out on top, and with a short week before they play TCU, the Sooners must regroup fast.

In the meantime, here is our stock report to see who is trending up and down as the Sooners prepare for their final Big 12 home game.

Oklahoma State dominates list of Big 12 top performers in Week 7

The Cowboys had quite a time in Week7.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. At least that was the theme in a pair of games featuring teams from the Sunflower State.

The Kansas State Wildcats continued their dominance over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. After winning eight of the first 11 games in the series, Tech hasn’t been able to get off the snide. Since 2011, the Wildcats have won 12 of the preview 13 games including eight straight.

The Kansas vs Oklahoma State series has been played on and off since 1933. A total of 73 meetings prior to Saturday’s showdown in Stillwater. The momentum stayed with the Pokes despite the Jayhawks winning this game last season. OSU defeated KU in Stillwater again, a place they haven’t lost in the series since 2007.

If you wanted to be entertained, the game on Thursday night was the matchup to watch. After heading into the fourth quarter with a 21-17 score, the West Virginia Mountaineers and Houston Cougars combined for 42 points in the final quarter. Facing a 35-24 deficit, WVU scored twice in the final four minutes to take the lead, 39-35 with just 12 seconds left. A hail mary pass from Donovan Smith with no time left gave Houston the win 41-39 and kept the heat off Dana Holgorsen for another week.

Now, we check in with the top performers of Week 7 in the Big 12.

5 Texas players to know ahead of this year’s Red River Rivalry game

Five players to watch when the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry.

The week is here. The stage is set, and the Oklahoma Sooners are set to take on their most despised rival, the Texas Longhorns.

After beating Cincinnati on the road and hanging 50 points in a 30-point win against Iowa State, Oklahoma is 5-0 (2-0 Big 12). Texas is also 5-0 (2-0 Big 12) and has beaten Alabama on the road. The win against Alabama has catapulted the Longhorns’ season into the stratosphere. The expectations for Texas are now sky-high.

They enter the game ranked No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, while Oklahoma is No. 12.

When looking at how each team has recruited, Texas is more talented than the Sooners.

They are a deep team with a plethora of talent at every position group. Oklahoma’s hands will be full on Saturday. While the anticipation builds, we’ve highlighted five Texas players who will play a significant part in deciding who wins this game.

Check it out below.

Stock Report: Young playmakers rising as Sooners prepare for season’s biggest test

Oklahoma is 5-0 and on a upwards trajectory so check out how they fair in this week’s stock report as they prepare for the Texas Longhorns.

Oklahoma has passed each of the tests put before them through the first five weeks of the season. Now all eyes turn to their Red River Rivals, the Texas Longhorns. To get to that point, the Sooners had to dispatch the last five teams in front of them. The most recent being their final Big 12 matchup with the [autotag]Iowa State Cyclones[/autotag].

The Sooners won in decisive fashion, 50-20. Coming into the game, Brent Venables’ team had to avoid looking ahead and also leave no doubt that they weren’t the teams of the past that got tripped up by Matt Campbell’s Cyclones. Campbell has been a thorn in Oklahoma’s side since taking over the Iowa State program. However, an explosive passing game and stifling second-half defense put the game away.

As the Sooners prepare for Texas, some notable things are on an upward trajectory around Norman. And still, there are areas that aren’t on the right track. Will the positives prove pivotal on Saturday, or will the negatives continue to trend downward and affect Oklahoma’s chances of pulling off the upset of the Longhorns in Dallas?
