Iowa State at Oklahoma odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa State Cyclones at Oklahoma Sooners odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Iowa State Cyclones (6-4, 4-3 Big 12) visit the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Norman. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Iowa State vs. Oklahoma odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Things have gone off the rails a bit for Iowa State, losing two of the past three, and going 1-3 ATS in the previous four outings. The defense was trampled at Texas Tech in a 41-38 loss in Lubbock last Saturday.

The Sooners fell at Baylor 27-14 last week as 4-point favorites. The Sooners enter this game just 1-2 ATS across the past three, and 4-6 ATS on the season.

Iowa State at Oklahoma odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Oklahoma 41, Iowa State 34

Money line

OKLAHOMA (-175) isn’t a bad play at this price if you just want to forget about laying the points and pick a winner straight up. The Sooners aren’t returning home and losing to Iowa State even though the Cyclones have been a thorn in the side of the Sooners in recent seasons. OU is angry, which is bad news for the visitors.

Against the spread

OKLAHOMA -3.5 (-108) will bounce back after last week’s debacle at Waco, taking out its frustrations on Iowa State.

This game will be a seesaw affair early on, as QB Brock Purdy and the Cyclones offense is potent, and will challenge the favorites. But the Sooners will find a way, and should win this one by at least a touchdown, tapping into last week’s loss for motivation.

Over/Under

The OVER 60.5 (-108) is the best bet on the board in this game. Yes, Oklahoma scored a season-low 14 points last week. It won’t happen again.

Iowa State posted 89 rushing yards and 356 passing yards last week, while allowing 207 yards on the ground and 322 yards through the air. This game is going to be a shootout, and Over bettors might be holding a winning ticket sometime in the third quarter if everything goes according to plan.

Texas at Iowa State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas Longhorns at Iowa State Cyclones odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Texas Longhorns (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) and Iowa State Cyclones (5-3, 3-2) meet Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Texas vs. Iowa State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Longhorns are in a tailspin, dropping three straight while going 0-3 ATS. The defense has allowed 27 or more points in five straight, and six of the past seven outings.

The Cyclones were dumped 38-31 at West Virginia last Saturday, and Iowa State has failed to cover its past two, while going 3-5 ATS overall. The Over is 4-1 in the previous five outings.

Texas at Iowa State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 34, Texas 29

Money line

Iowa State (-250) will cost you two-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s not a recommended play. Neither of these teams are worth trusting on the money line at the moment.

AVOID.

Against the spread

TEXAS +6.5 (-107) is worth a look in this battle between mediocre teams. The Longhorns are looking to snap a three-game skid, while the Cyclones are 3-1 SU across the past four, but just 3-5 ATS overall. That includes a 1-3 ATS mark in four games at home. Back the ‘Horns lightly as the road ‘dogs.

Over/Under

OVER 58.5 (-120) is the lean. Iowa State has hit the Over in four of the past five games overall. While the Under is 3-1 in the previous four overall for Texas, it has allowed 31 or more points in each of the past three. We’re going to see plenty of scoring at Jack Trice.

Iowa State at West Virginia odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa State Cyclones at West Virginia Mountaineers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) travel to meet the West Virginia Mountaineers (3-4, 1-3) Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Iowa State vs. West Virginia odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Cyclones have rebounded from a 31-29 loss at Baylor Sept. 25 with three consecutive victories. That includes an impressive 24-21 win against then-No. 9 Oklahoma State last Saturday to vault the ‘Clones back into the rankings. The Over has cashed in three of the past four outings for ISU, too.

The Mountaineers tapped the brakes on a three-game losing streak, besting TCU 29-17 in Fort Worth last week as 5.5-point underdogs. West Virginia has cashed in four of the past six games with the Under going 4-1 in the previous five outings.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Iowa State at West Virginia odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 26, West Virginia 20

Money line

Iowa State (-300) is a little on the expensive side, costing you three times your potential return. There’s just no value there. Betting heavy favorites like that will burn you over time and send you into the red.

AVOID and look to the spread.

Against the spread

WEST VIRGINIA +7.5 (+100) has the talent to win this game, but it’s unlikely. However, the Mountaineers are a strong play, catching seven and a hook on their home field. West Virginia should show out in front of a raucous crowd on a soggy fall afternoon in Morgantown.

Over/Under

UNDER 47.5 (-105) is the lean. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50’s with a 60 percent chance of showers. With a steady rain, both sides should keep the ball on the ground. A mostly ground-based attack means the clock keeps running, a boon to Under bettors.

Oklahoma State at Iowa State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Oklahoma State Cowboys at Iowa State Cyclones odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Iowa State Cyclones (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) host the undefeated No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-0, 3-0) for a conference battle Saturday. Kickoff at Jack Trice Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Oklahoma State upset a then-ranked Texas Longhorns 32-24 as a 3.5-point road underdog Oct. 16. The Cowboys have won and covered their first four Big 12 games after playing two non-Power 5 schools in one-score games at the beginning of the year.

Iowa State has won three of the last four games, all by double digits with the lone loss coming at the No. 20 Baylor Bears in Week 4. The Cyclones also lost to the No. 11 Iowa Hawkeyes and are 3-3 against the spread (ATS) with a 3-3 Over/Under (O/U) record.

Since hiring head coach Matt Campbell in 2016, the Cowboys are 4-1 overall but just 2-3 ATS vs. the Cyclones.

Oklahoma State at Iowa State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 24, Oklahoma State 20

Money line

PASS with a slight “lean” to Oklahoma State (+205) because I only “lean” to the Cowboys plus points and “like” the total in this matchup.

However, four of Oklahoma State’s games have been decided by one score and the Cowboys are due for a loss in one of these coin-flip games.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to OKLAHOMA STATE +7.5 (-120) because there’s something strange about this line and I cannot figure out why Iowa State is this big of a favorite.

Oklahoma State has played a tougher schedule than Iowa State and beat a Baylor team (by 10 points) which upset the Cyclones 31-29 Sept. 25. Iowa State doesn’t have an impressive win on its resume whereas Oklahoma State just went into Austin and upset Texas.

This is a “Pros vs. Joe’s” game with a slight majority of the money being on Iowa State, but 78% of the bets placed are on Oklahoma State, according to Pregame.com. The pro-Iowa State money has steamed this line up from the Cyclones laying 5.5 points on the opener to the current price.

Also, one of the squarest bets in college football is taking points with a ranked team visiting an unranked conference opponent. Oddsmakers have made loot for years because bettors overvalue ranked teams.

But, for me, it’s either OKLAHOMA STATE +7.5 (-120) or nothing.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 46.5 (-105) for 1 unit because both defenses are nasty and a vast majority of the market is backing the Over.

Oklahoma State’s defensive front ranks fifth in line yards allowed per snap and Iowa State’s ranks 30th. But Oklahoma State’s offensive line ranks 115th in line yards per snap and Iowa State’s is 71st.

On top of that, roughly three-fourths of the action is on the Over (according to Pregame.com), but this total opened at 50.5. That type of “reverse line movement” tells me that oddsmakers want more pro-Over wagers. Let’s fade the market and get on the same side as the House.

Iowa State at Kansas State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa State at Kansas State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Iowa State Cyclones (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) and Kansas State Wildcats (3-2, 0-2) meet Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Bill Snyder Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. Below, we look at the Iowa State vs. Kansas State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Iowa State is coming off an uneven set of five games with disappointing efforts mixed in with blowout victories and a bye last week. ISU has been staunch defensively all the way around and has yielded just 15.6 points per game, good for 10th nationally. The Cyclones 233.8 yards allowed per contest ranks third in the nation.

The Wildcats have struggled on offense. They’ve compiled just 360.4 yards per game (95th FBS) while earning three straight wins to start the season followed by back-to-back losses to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. The most recent of those games, two weeks ago at home versus the Sooners, was a garbage-time cover for Kansas State. The Wildcats got a kickoff return for a touchdown with 1:20 remaining in an eventual 37-31 loss.

Iowa State at Kansas State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 31, Kansas State 21

Money line

Iowa State outgained Baylor 479 to 282 in total yards in a loss to the Bears Sept. 25. BU had two scoring drives of less than 10 yards (and four scoring drives of less than 60) in that one. The Cyclones also nearly doubled up the powerful Iowa Hawkeyes in yardage on Sept. 11 but were undone by four turnovers in a 27-17 loss.

Peg Iowa State as being on schedule when it has the ball. Early-season issues on third-down conversions have suppressed some of its scoring potential but that doesn’t figure to be an issue Saturday night.

Coming off a bye week and a substantial advantage in their offense facing a weak Kansas State defense, the Cyclones look to be a 75-80% proposition in this contest. TAKE IOWA STATE (-260).

Against the spread

Iowa State is the lean, but this number has gotten a bit too rich throughout the week: PASS.

Over/Under

KSU is decent against the run. Look for Iowa State to find success through the air and have a significant field-position edge throughout much of the game.

The Wildcats offense has been capable of late.

TAKE THE OVER 50.5 (-115).

Kansas at Iowa State odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Kansas Jayhawks at Iowa State Cyclones odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas Jayhawks (1-3, 0-1 Big 12) travel to take on the Iowa State Cyclones (2-2, 0-1) Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Jack Trice Stadium. Below, we look at Kansas vs. Iowa State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Kansas has won just 10 games since 2015, and that includes its 2021 season-opening victory over South Dakota. Kansas has since been destroyed by Coastal Carolina, Baylor and Duke but the Jayhawks managed to score at least 22 points in two of those three games. Kansas gets a tough matchup with the previously 14th-ranked ranked Cyclones.

Iowa State had a massive showdown with Big Ten in-state rival Iowa, currently ranked No. 5 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. They also lost to top-25 Baylor.

Aside from those two games, the Cyclones outscored opponents 64-13.

Kansas at Iowa State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 52, Kansas 21

Money line

PASS on the money line.

Unless it’s a fraction of a unit on some magical day for Kansas, stay away from the money line. Betting -10000 for Iowa State will help a parlay so little and has far too much risk straight up for it to be worth a bettor’s while.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to KANSAS +34.5 (-108) as a slightly better bet. Baylor took down both Iowa State and Kansas, beating the former by 2 and the latter by 38.

With the Jayhawks having shown some ability to move the ball downfield against both Coastal Carolina and Duke, they should see some of that same success against a flimsy Iowa State defense.

Iowa State gave up 27 or more points in both of its losses. While it’ll almost certainly come out on top, a margin of almost five touchdowns is tough to bet on. I’d lean Kansas, but only for a fraction of a unit.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

BET the OVER 56.5 (-108) as Kansas has scored over 20 points in two of its last three games. The Jayhawks scored at least 17 points in three of four games. Given that Iowa State hung 48 on UNLV, it may run up the score on Kansas.

Iowa State scored 77 points in its last two games and has turned on its offense of late. Given this game should be high-scoring in terms of Iowa State getting into the endzone, expect numerous scores.

Iowa State at Baylor odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa State Cyclones at Baylor Bears odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 14th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) and Baylor Bears (3-0, 1-0) meet Saturday at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Iowa State at Baylor odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Cyclones fell to rival Iowa 27-17 Sept. 11. They got back on track with a 48-3 road rout of a very bad UNLV team for their first cover against the spread this season. They were 32-point road favorites and the Under in their games improved to a perfect 3-0.

The Bears started out a bit on the shaky side, edging Texas State 29-20 on the road in their season opener Sept. 4. They have since rebounded, blasting FCS Texas Southern 66-7 at home before blasting Kansas on the road by a 45-7 count.

Iowa State at Baylor odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 26, Baylor 17

Money line

Iowa State (-290) will cost you nearly three times your potential return. That’s risky business on the road, especially against an unbeaten Baylor side.

AVOID.

Against the spread

IOWA STATE -6.5 (-125) is a decent play on the road as it looks to build upon its first cover of the season. Baylor will have its hands full trying to solve the nation’s stingiest defense. That will be the difference here.

Iowa State QB Brock Purdy had a wake-up call in the loss to Iowa, while the offense really found some confidence at UNLV. The Cyclones will head down to Waco and edge Baylor, pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

UNDER 46.5 (-103) is the slight lean in this play as both Baylor and Iowa State have put up tremendous numbers on defense. Both offenses will not find the type of success they’ve seen against weaker non-conference foes.

Iowa at Iowa State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Iowa at Iowa State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 12 Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0) visit in-state rival No. 10 Iowa State Cyclones (1-0) Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in the return of the annual Cy-Hawk game. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Iowa vs. Iowa State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Iowa steamrolled Big Ten-rival Indiana 34-6 as 3.5-point home favorites in Week 1. The Hawkeyes held the Hoosiers to 77 rushing yards on 31 carries, 156 passing yards on a 42.4% completion rate and forced 3 turnovers.

Iowa State squeaked past Northern Iowa with an uninspiring 16-10 victory as 28.5-point road favorites. The Cyclones showed up defensively and allowed just 45 rushing yards on 26 carries and added 2 interceptions. However, Iowa State struggled on third down efficiency on the offensive side and converted just five of 14 attempts.

The 2020 Cy-Hawk game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but Iowa has won five straight meetings, and six of the last seven games, against Iowa State.

Iowa at Iowa State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 27, Iowa 20

Money line

PASS with a slight “lean” to Iowa State (-205) because I am tinkering with the idea of throwing it into a parlay with another similarly priced favorite for a plus-money payout since I’m comfortable laying it with the Cyclones.

Against the spread

Most of the college football/sports betting podcasts that I listen to were blown away with how easily Iowa destroyed an Indiana team that had a breakout season in 2020. Likewise, most of the college football community was rightfully disappointed with Iowa State’s Week 1 performance.

This correlates with the betting splits that show Iowa +3.5 (-105) getting nearly 60% of the cash and almost 75% of the bets wagered on it, according to Pregame.com.

The oddsmakers aren’t overreacting by Iowa State’s opening game stinker and Iowa’s impressive Week 1 outing so neither should we. Iowa State ranks fourth in ESPN college football guru Bill Connelly’s 2021 returning production table and almost beat the mighty Oklahoma Sooners twice last year.

Furthermore, Iowa State has covered two of the past three Cy-Hawk games and NFL front offices have been trying to poach Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell from college football for a few offseasons now. Rumor has it Campbell turned down a head coaching offer for generational wealth to return to Iowa State and make a run at the College Football Playoff.

Campell will get the Cyclones back on track and slaughter the trendy underdog Iowa has become. GIMME IOWA STATE -3.5 (-120) for 1.25 units.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 46.5 (-108) for a tiny wager because I much prefer the Iowa State side, we are getting “Reverse Line Movement” here with total getting moved up despite a ton of pro-Under money and it does feel a little too obvious.

The Under is 4-1-1 in the last six Cy-Hawk games, Iowa State has played the Under in six consecutive contests dating back to last season and Iowa has gone Under the total in three of its last four games.

Both defenses are nasty and the offensive line is each team’s best unit on the other side of the ball so we should see an epic battle in the trenches.

First look: Iowa at Iowa State odds and lines, a tight battle for the Cy-Hawk

Previewing the college football Week 2 matchup between Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones, with odds, trends and head-to-head records.

The Cy-Hawk Trophy is up for grabs on Saturday when the Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0) and Iowa State Cyclones (1-0) square off at Jack Trice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at Iowa at Iowa State odds and lines; check back for our college football picks and predictions.

Both teams are ranked in the USA TODAY AFCA Coaches Poll entering the 68th edition of this in-state rivalry. The preseason No. 18 Hawkeyes looked dominant in its debut, beating No. 17 Indiana 34-6 last week behind a defense that allowed just 233 total yards and saw DB Riley Moss return two interceptions for touchdowns.

No. 8 Iowa State looked rustier in its tune-up last week. They were a 29-point favorite against FCS opponent Northern Iowa but squeaked by in a 16-10 win. This is a consensus top-10 Cyclone team that won six of its last seven games in 2020 and might have been caught looking ahead to this in-state showdown.

Northern Iowa at Iowa State odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Northern Iowa at Iowa State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Northern Iowa Panthers and Iowa State Cyclones meet Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game can be viewed on ESPN+. Below, we look at the Northern Iowa vs. Iowa State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

UNI played a spring schedule and went 3-4. The offense was limited to 21 or fewer points in six of those seven outings. The Panthers aren’t ranked in the FCS top 25, although they did receive points.

Iowa State is certainly in the rankings. In fact, it’s No. 8 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The Cyclones finished ninth in 2020 for their highest-ever ranking to close a season.

QB Brock Purdy, RB Breece Hall and TE Charlie Kolar are all back, as is leading WR Xavier Hutchinson. That group was instrumental in helping the Cyclones to 6.3 yards per play, third in the Big 12. On defense, DE Will McDonald IV and LB Mike Rose are bona fide stars.

Northern Iowa at Iowa State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa State 51, Northern Iowa 6

Money line

There is never a reason to risk $100 to win just $1, so nix Iowa State (-10000) from the money line plans and look to the spread instead.

AVOID.

Against the spread

IOWA STATE -31.5 (-105) is a very good play laying the big number. The Cyclones are stacked on both sides of the ball, and they’re a legitimate College Football Playoff contender from the Big 12.

Northern Iowa +31.5 (-120) has been a powerhouse in the FCS in the past, but it’s a shell of its former self and just completed a mediocre spring season a few months ago. The Panthers are going to get pounded in this money game visit.

Over/Under

OVER 49.5 (-115) is the way to go, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Iowa State takes care of the number without help from UNI. Iowa State was good for 32.9 points per game last season and should find plenty of open spaces against the undermanned Panthers.
