WATCH: Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, players Duane Washington and Kyle Young discuss Iowa win

Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann, as well as players Kyle Young and Duane Washington, discuss the huge win over Iowa postgame.

The Ohio State basketball team just keeps rattling off big win after big win. The latest was a win over an extremely talented Iowa team in Iowa City. One in which the Buckeyes had to battle back from being down eleven points in the second half.

You have to wonder if even OSU head coach Chris Holtmann has begun to marvel at what this team has done over the last few weeks with wins at Iowa, at Illinois, at Wisconsin, and at Rutgers. No easy feat in a league as deep and talented as the Big Ten is.

Holtmann met with the media afterward to discuss what he saw from his team, the journey it is on, and how much respect he has for this Iowa team. You can watch and listen to all of his comments thanks to our YouTube Channel and the fine folks at Ohio State.

Another great win for Ohio State, but there isn’t much time to celebrate. The Buckeyes next travel on the road again to take on Maryland.

Ohio State trails Iowa after high scoring first half of action

Ohio State and Iowa are embattled in a high-scoring affair. The Buckeyes trail the Hawkeyes at halftime of an entertaining up and down game.

Ohio State and Iowa are putting on an offensive display in Iowa City, Iowa. The Buckeyes got out to a hot start, leading by as much as eight, but the Hawkeyes reeled OSU back in and went into the locker room up 45-42 thanks in large part to a 7-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Justice Sueing leads Ohio State with ten points on 4-of-7 shooting. He’s been able to get penetration in the lane and knock down some high percentage shots. E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington are second in scoring with seven points apiece.

The game has been a fun up and down affair to watch with most of the stats pretty even aside from the three-point shooting. The Buckeyes haven’t allowed Luka Garza to go off, have matched the Hawkeyes in taking care of the ball and turnovers, just haven’t been able to get the volume of shots to go down from deep like the Hawkeyes.

If you’re an Ohio State fan, there’s a lot of good to build on here. If OSU can play a similar half and Iowa slows down from bombing away with accuracy from deep, you have to feel good about how things might play out.

Twenty more minutes to go in snowy Iowa City. First team to 90 wins?

Ohio State basketball vs. Iowa preview, prediction, and odds

Broadcast, TV, Game Time

The road doesn’t get any easier for the Ohio State basketball team. After two wins last week over an upstart Penn Stats squad, and a reeling, yet still talented Michigan State team, the Buckeyes now have the daunting task of traveling to Iowa City to take on one of the most talented teams in the country, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

It’s a top ten matchup with both squads in a virtual tie for third place, and just 1.5 games out of first. The winner stays in the conversation for a conference title run, while the loser is faced with a significant setback toward that end goal.

As we do before every game, we provide you with some key players, a potential game plan, and of course, a prediction.

Next … The Ohio State game plan

Ohio State basketball moderate underdog to Iowa according to BetMGM

Ohio State is hitting the road Thursday night to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The popular BetMGM Sportsbook has the Buckeyes as an underdog.

Ohio State has a big one tonight in Iowa City. It’s a top ten matchup between the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes in what could go a long way in deciding which team stays in the hunt for the Big Ten championship vs. which one has a harder uphill climb the rest of the way.

For OSU, it’s another road contest against another highly ranked team. The Buckeyes have proven several experts and predictions wrong in games that took place in Madison, Champaign, and Piscataway. Can they do it again?

With that in mind, the oddsmakers believe Iowa is a decent favorite in this one. In fact, BetMGM Sportsbook has the Hawkeyes as a 5.5 favorite heading into the contest if you are into that sort of thing.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.

Iowa has arguably the best player in the country in big man Luka Garza, and several scorers and playmaker around him, so it’ll be a challenge. We’ll have to see if Ohio State is up to the task again.

Watch Tom Izzo postgame comments after Iowa loss: ‘Somebody better hope we don’t get on a streak’

Tom Izzo spoke to the media after a frustratingly close loss to Iowa.

Michigan State Basketball dropped their fourth straight game on Tuesday 84-78 against Iowa, but not for a lack of effort. The Spartans looked like they could have beaten No. 8 Iowa on the road in Iowa City, no small feat, and looked like a much more dangerous team than in their last two games against Ohio State and Rutgers.

After the game, Tom Izzo spoke to the media in what was a very interesting press conference following perhaps the toughest stretch of his career. Below, we compiled the most intriguing quotes in an interview that covered fouls, Aaron Henry playing time, and a warning for the rest of the league.

We’ll start with my personal favorite:

Izzo comments that he genuinely thought the Spartans would win:

On Aaron Henry’s late missed field goal and the extreme foul disparity in the game:

On the unique circumstance that has come with a long road trip:

Michigan State Basketball drops close game on the road to No. 8 Iowa

The Spartans lost a very close game to Iowa, extending their losing streak to four games in conference play.

[jwplayer mSDA56Ej-PROpJzTY]

Michigan State Basketball dropped a close game on Tuesday night to Iowa and has now lost four straight games in conference play. That is the longest losing streak in Big Ten play for the Spartans since 2006. The final score was 84-78 in Iowa City.

This one hurt, and might be one of the final blows in MSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes. The Spartans had every opportunity to win the game, but ultimately couldn’t pull it out at the end of the game.

[vertical-gallery id=34801]

MSU played Iowa star Luka Garza about as well as you can, and he still ended up with 27 points and 12 rebounds. For the Spartans, this was another game from Aaron Henry where you can start to see why he is a likely NBA Draft pick this year. He finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists with 4 made threes. He also had a block and a steal.

Joshua Langford shot the ball well from three tonight, but it was his poor shooting on twos that hurt the team, especially at the end of the game. Went 3-for-6 on threes but just 2-for-10 on twos, and missed a crunch time mid-range jumper that sealed the loss for MSU.

The other story of the night, and this is no surprise against Iowa, was the foul disparity. MSU was charged with 28 fouls with led to 35 free throws for Iowa, while the Spartans only shot 15 free throws on 17 called fouls for the Hawkeyes.

If Michigan State has any shot at the tournament, they need to start stringing together wins and stop the losing streak starting this Saturday versus Nebraska.

Check out the game details, keys to the match-up, and my game prediction in this Michigan State-Iowa preview.

Michigan State is in a tough spot right now, and things appear to only be getting harder for the Spartans with another brutal road match-up on Tuesday night in Iowa City.

Michigan State battles No. 8 Iowa on Tuesday night, with the Spartans looking to pull off a massive upset to end their current three-game losing streak. Michigan State last won on Jan. 5, and enters this match-up at 8-6 (2-6 in the Big Ten) after a pair of double-digit road losses last week.

Can the Spartans somehow get back on track in Iowa City? Let’s take a look at this match-up against the Hawkeyes, with game details, things to watch, and last but not least my prediction for this game.

Following major player news, Big Ten basketball is on the rise in the latest ESPN Bracketology

The Badgers continue to rise in the latest Bracketology

Just before a tumultuous week of Big Ten cancellations, the 2020-2021 basketball season was shaping up to be arguably the most competitive in the history of the conference. With Iowa getting Luka Garza, the best player in the conference a year ago, back for his senior campaign coupled with Illinois stars Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn withdrawing from the NBA draft to return to Champiagn, the conference was ready for a battle at the top.

Although the season has been momentarily pushed back, there is still reasonable hope that schools can play this year, especially within the conference.

If we get Big Ten basketball this season, Wisconsin will be a part of the best conference in college basketball. That was further confirmed in ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology column.

The Big Ten sees nine teams get in the dance, more than any other conference in the nation. Illinois has made a significant jump up to the four line, as they return their two leading scorers from a year ago. Wisconsin moves up to a two seed, the highest ranking they have been in any bracketology so far. Here is a complete seeding breakdown for Big Ten teams:

Iowa – 2 seed

Wisconsin – 2 seed

Michigan State – 3 seed

Illinois – 4 seed

Ohio State – 4 seed

Rutgers – 6 seed

Indiana – 7 seed

Michigan – 7 seed

Purdue – 8 seed

Wisconsin no longer the highest Big Ten seed in ESPN’s latest ‘Bracketology’

The Badgers fall as other Big Ten opponents rise

Even before a major day of Big Ten basketball news, ESPN college basketball insider Joe Lunardi moved the Badgers down in his latest round of bracketology. Wisconsin enters in as a three seed in the south region after previously being listed on the two line.

The new top two Big Ten squads in the bracket are the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Michigan State Spartans. Iowa is a team that just got the 2019 Big Ten Player of the Year back in Luka Garza for his senior season. The Hawkeyes are on the two line in the west region, while Michigan State is the lone Big Ten team on the one seed level. The Big Ten leads the way in the latest edition of Bracketology with nine teams in the field of 68.

Here is a full Big Ten list of where teams fall in the bracket:

Michigan State – 1 seed

Iowa – 2 seed

Wisconsin – 3 seed

Ohio State – 4 seed

Michigan – 6 seed

Rutgers – 7 seed

Purdue – 7 seed

Indiana – 9 seed

Illinois – 9 seed

The best player in the Big Ten is coming back to school for his senior season

Iowa received a major lift thanks to significant news surrounding their best player

Earlier this morning, Iowa Hawkeye fans received news that suddenly had them thinking big in 2020. We are talking national championship big. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Luka Garza is returning to Iowa City, and the Hawkeyes look downright scary.

With Garza deciding to withdraw his name from the 2020 NBA Draft and not go overseas, Iowa gets back a player who averaged 23.9 points and nearly ten rebounds in a season where he was undoubtedly a top-two player in the country alongside Obi Toppin from Dayton. The Washington, D.C. native returns as the odds on favorite to win the 2020-2021 Wooden Award and makes his Hawkeye team a Big Ten title front runner.

Now, after a few days of major conference news, the top of the Big Ten looks as mighty as ever with Illinois returning their two leading scorers in Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn, Wisconsin fielding an all-senior starting lineup, and Michigan State getting Xavier Tillman back to East Lansing. The Big Ten conference is setting up to be one of the best conferences college basketball has ever seen in 2020-2021. Do not be surprised if Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State all end up in the top ten at various points throughout the regular season.
