The Saints won’t be going to Germany after all

Despite local reporting in Germany, the NFL announced a different opponent for the Patriots. The Saints won’t be going to Frankfurt after all:

New Orleans Saints fans in Germany will have to wait a while longer to see their team in person. Despite local reporting overseas claiming the Saints would be visiting for a game with the New England Patriots, the NFL on Wednesday announced that the Indianapolis Colts, not the Saints, will be playing the role of the away team in this matchup with the Patriots.

That’s a bummer for fans abroad who were hoping to make the trip. But it has to be a relief to the Saints who just played an international game last year against the Minnesota Vikings in London. We’ll find out the full schedule for New Orleans in the days ahead.

Here are this year’s NFL International Series matchups:

  • Week 4: Falcons at Jaguars on Oct. 1 (Wembley Stadium, London)
  • Week 5: Jaguars at Bills on Oct. 8 (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London)
  • Week 6: Ravens at Titans on Oct. 15 (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London)
  • Week 9: Dolphins at Chiefs on Nov. 5 (Frankfurt Stadium, Germany)
  • Week 10: Colts at Patriots on Nov. 12 (Frankfurt Stadium, Germany)

Report: Saints to play Patriots in Frankfurt, Germany’s Deutsche Bank Park in 2023

The German newspaper Bild reports that the Saints and Patriots will meet at Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park in Nov. 2023. The NFL’s international schedule will be confirmed soon:

The German newspaper Bild’s Max Schrader reports that the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots will meet for a game at Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park in Nov. 2023 as part of the NFL’s international series, though the league has not yet confirmed this by releasing their schedule. The Saints are the away team in this matchup so they would not be losing a home game in New Orleans as was the case last year.

Schrader adds that the game would be played on either Nov. 12 or 19, with a contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears taking the other slot. That would fall in either Weeks 10 or 11 on the regular season schedule.

That’s good news for Saints fans overseas in Europe, who were able to watch their team play the Minnesota Vikings at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just last season. The Patriots have not played a game abroad in Europe since 2012 (though they traveled to Mexico City in 2017).

It’s not good news for Saints fans back home, though, who will either have to wake up for an early-morning kickoff or make the trip themselves. Which isn’t a bad proposition. You could do worse things than visiting Frankfurt to watch the New Orleans defense beat up Mac Jones for a couple of hours. Don’t book your tickets just yet, though — we’ll find out for sure whether the Saints are going to Germany when the NFL announces its complete schedule of 2023 regular season games in the days and weeks ahead.

Cowboys to visit London? NFL sets home teams for 2023 International Series

The Cowboys have played just 1 overseas game since the International Series began, but the stars are aligning for a possible return in 2023. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The NFL on Thursday released the list of five designated teams who will play overseas in 2023, and while the Cowboys haven’t been told to update their passports, there seems to be a decent chance they could be heading across the pond next season.

Germany will get two games next year, with exact locations still to be determined. The Chiefs are already set to appear in one of those games; the Patriots will play in the other.  While Dallas is poised to take on new England in 2023, it’s already penciled in as a Cowboys home game in Arlington. With AFC squads set to have nine home games next season, they’ll be the “home team” in all international games. So it won’t be Dallas versus New England in Germany.

The Cowboys officially have Mexico as a marketing territory thanks to the league’s International Home Marketing Areas initiative, but there will be no game in that country next season as Estadio Azteca undergoes renovations.

London will host three contests, with the Jaguars slated to play once again at Wembley Stadium, and the Titans and Bills setting up temporary shop at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And here’s where it gets interesting.

The Cowboys already know they’ll face the Bills next season, and they already know they’ll have to travel to do so.

Of the Bills’ nine home opponents in 2023, two- New England and Jacksonville- are already hosting their own international games, and it’s hard to imagine the NFL making either club play a European twofer. The Giants and Broncos were just in London last year, and the Buccaneers just played a date in Germany. The Jets and Dolphins took the long flight recently, too: in 2021.

That leaves the Raiders and the Cowboys as the most obvious matchups for Buffalo in that Tottenham tilt.

Las Vegas has played internationally five times, and last did so in 2019.

But since the International Series began, the Cowboys have played just one game on foreign soil, and that was all the way back in 2014. Of the NFL’s 32 teams, only Pittsburgh has gone longer without an overseas trip.

There’s a lot of guesswork and assuming going on here, but it would certainly seem that the Cowboys are overdue for an international voyage.

And the stars have lined up to make it a very real possibility in 2023.

Ranking 5 likeliest opponents for Chiefs’ game in Germany in 2023

Our @goldmctNFL ranks the #Chiefs’ five likeliest opponents for their game in Germany in 2023.

The NFL announced on Thursday that the Kansas City Chiefs would be one of two teams playing a game in Germany in the 2023 regular season.

Additional game details with opponent, date and so on will be announced at a later date, but we do know that K.C. will play one of their nine home games in Germany in 2023. We also already know the nine opponents on the Chiefs’ home schedule in 2023.

There are some opponents that we can rule out for this game — the most notable being the Buffalo Bills. They’re one of three NFL teams slated to play in London in 2023, so the league would not assign them two international games. The league has also previously stated they don’t want division rivals playing in international series games, so don’t expect to see the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders or Los Angeles Chargers as the team’s opponent.

With all of that in mind, here’s a look at our thoughts on the likeliest opponent for Kansas City:

3 of Miami’s 2023 away opponents set to host games internationally

Could the Dolphins make a return to Europe?

While the Miami Dolphins know all of their opponents for the 2023 campaign, it was certain that all of the games will be played in the United States.

On Thursday, the NFL announced the five home teams for international play, and four of them have the Dolphins on the schedule next season.

The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots will host games in Germany, and the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans will each host their at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

With Miami’s game against the Titans set to be at Hard Rock Stadium, they won’t compete against them in London. However, the other three contests could certainly see the Dolphins in action.

The aqua and orange last traveled to Europe in 2021 when they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a game-winning, 53-yard field goal by Matthew Wright.

Wembley Stadium will also see a game hosted by the Jaguars, but Miami isn’t set to take them on in 2023.

Saints vs. Vikings preview: 6 things to know about Week 4

The Saints and Vikings are set to kickoff in London this weekend, here are six things you need to know ahead of the international series matchup, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

All indications suggest that the New Orleans Saints will be on their way to a change at quarterback this weekend in London. With starter Jameis Winston listed as doubtful to play on Sunday, the Saints are in line to turn to Andy Dalton as their lead signal caller against the Minnesota Vikings. Saints head coach Dennis Allen detailed that not only has the lingering back issue led to this outlook, but so too have residual concerns around Winston’s training camp ankle injury.

With Winston listed as doubtful on Friday, the Saints would have to upgrade him to at least questionable on Saturday in order for him to have a chance to appear in Sunday’s game. But after not practicing all week, that seems both unlikely and unwise. The biggest concern for Dalton, the quarterback likely to take the field, is that he will be without his starting left guard Andrus Peat and star wide receiver Michael Thomas.

Thomas has been known to be an eraser for changes at the quarterback position in the past. New Orleans will have to rely on other options like running back Alvin Kamara, receiver Jarvis Landry (both questionable to play) and rookie Chris Olave to get the offensive production going.

Saints to host Vikings in London with perfect record in international games

The New Orleans Saints will host the Minnesota Vikings in London Week 4, and will do so with a perfect record in international games, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

The 2022 NFL schedule release is right around the corner and New Orleans Saints fans in London already know to expect their favorite team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Oct. 2 in Week 4. This will be the Saints’ third international regular season game in their franchise’s history. They’ve also played three preseason exhibitions outside the United States as well, one of which was in London.

New Orleans has represented well in their world travels with an undefeated record away from home including three games across the pond, and preseason matchups in Tokyo and Mexico City. New Orleans will now take their undefeated travels to the Enfield borough for the first time to play host to the Minnesota Vikings. Here are the Saints’ previous five wins in international play:

Giants will play Packers in London on October 9

The Green Bay Packers will host the New York Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on October 9.

In July of 2021, the NFL announced that each of its 32 teams would play at least one International Series game over the course of an eight-year span.

For the New York Giants, their wait will end at the two-year mark.

On Wednesday morning, the hosts at Good Morning Football officially revealed the five-game International Series slate. And as expected, the Giants will visit the Green Bay Packers on October 9 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET.

The Giants also confirmed the news through Eli Manning and Brian Daboll.

“It’s always an honor to represent the NFL internationally,” Daboll said, via Giants.com. “We’ve got a lot of work to do between now and then.”

“Our fanbase in the UK has always been extremely loyal and passionate,” Giants Chief Commercial Officer Pete Guelli said. “The organization has had two memorable games in front of the London fans, and we look forward to engaging with them leading up to the game this fall.”

The Giants’ other potential International Series opponent was the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they will host the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium instead.

For the Packers, this will be their first-ever International Series game. They are the only team in the NFL that has yet to play overseas (or in Mexico).

The Giants, of course, defeated the Miami Dolphins by a score of 13-10 in the very first International Series game back in 2007. They would return to London in 2016, defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 17-10.

Only the New England Patriots (3-0) have a better record in London than do the Giants.

Report: Giants likely to play road game in London this season

The New York Giants are likely headed back to London this season to play either the Jacksonville Jaguars or Green Bay Packers.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbx61yex5whq8aq player_id=none image=https://giantswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The NFL will announce the 2022 regular season schedule in four parts.

During the NFL draft next week, the league will announce the Week 2 Thursday night game (Prime Video). The International Series slate will be announced on May 4, followed by “select games” during the week of May 9 and finally, the entire schedule release will come on May 12.

For the New York Giants, that May 4 announcement may be of some interest.

Tom Rock of Newsday reports that the Giants are considered a “very desirable” road opponent, adding that it’s even “likely” they play in London this season.

The Giants, of course, defeated the Miami Dolphins by a score of 13-10 in the very first International Series game back in 2007. They would return to London in 2016, defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 17-10.

As Rock alludes, the Giants are scheduled for road games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green Bay Packers this season. And the league has already announced that both teams will play home games in London, so keep an eye on them as potential opponents for New York.

Cowboys won’t go to Mexico City or Munich in 2022, London still possible

The NFL announced the teams that will “host” the 5 international games in ’22. If Dallas plays overseas, it will be in the UK, as visitors. | From @ToddBrock24f7

If the Cowboys visit a foreign country in the 2022 regular season, it will truly be as the visitors.

The NFL on Monday announced the designated home teams for the five contests making up the 2022 International Games, and the Cowboys are not on the list. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be the “home” club for the first-ever NFL game played in Munich, while the Arizona Cardinals will assume hosting duties for the league’s return to Mexico City. New Orleans, Green Bay, and Jacksonville will each act as the home squad for a game in London.

Cowboys players could still need to make sure their passports are updated, though. The “road” teams have not been revealed for these games, and Dallas is set to to travel to see both the Packers and Jaguars later this year. They may just have to rack up a few extra frequent-flier miles to do it for one of those matchups.

The Packers will play their London game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the Jaguars will set up shop at Wembley Stadium.

The Cowboys and Jaguars have squared off at Wembley once before, in 2014. Quarterback Tony Romo, just off a missed game due to a back injury, went 20-of-27 for 246 yards and three touchdowns that day to lead Dallas to a 31-17 victory.

It’s the only time the Cowboys have played in London. The Jaguars lead the league in international appearances.

The “away” teams and dates for the 2022 International Games will be announced at a later date.
