Justin Leonard on golf fitness as he becomes Champions Tour player

Averee Dovsek sat down with Justin Leonard on Instagram to chat with him about golf fitness, The Presidents Cup and the Champions Tour.

“When I stepped away from the game back in 2015 and 2016 and kind of stopped playing full time, I got away from golf specific training,” said Justin Leonard.

“Just in the last year or so I have gotten back into much more specific golf training. The swing trainer cuts my time in half because I am able to do such specific workouts. I can get right to it, work on my core, stability and rotational movements,” said Leonard.

Golfweek’s Averee Dovsek sat down with Justin Leonard on Instagram live to chat with him about his golf fitness, The Presidents Cup and his plans on the Champions Tour.

Kevin Durant’s Instagram Live session after Team USA’s gold-medal win was the absolute best

Kevin Durant’s Instagram Live is the best

Kevin Durant is one of the best basketball players in the world, plain and simple. There’s no debating that.

But there is a debate about whether that’s his best skill or not. Because as great as he is at basketball — and, don’t get it twisted, he’s an all-time great — he might be even better at social media.

He proved that to us all once again after Team USA’s gold-medal victory over France where Durant dropped 29 points and solidified himself as one of the greatest Olympian hoopers ever.

After the win and during the medal ceremony, Durant jumped on Instagram Live and gave us so much good content. SO MUCH.

Here are some of the greatest moments we saw.

Stephen Curry to host Instagram Live session with President Barack Obama

On Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. PST, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will host an Instagram Live session with President Barack Obama.

On Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. PST / 4:30 p.m. EST, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will chat with President Barack Obama for an Instagram Live session.

The discussion between the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and the 44th President of the United States will focus on themes from Obama’s recently released memoir “A Promised Land.”

The live conversation featuring the duo will be the first Instagram Live discussion to take place on Obama’s Instagram account (@BarackObama). The star-studded Instagram Live will also be featured on Curry’s account (@StephenCurry30).

In March, Curry hosted a segment with Dr. Anthony Fauci on Instagram Live, concentrating on common questions about the coronavirus pandemic. During Curry’s Q&A period with Fauci, Obama was one of the many viewers watching.

Curry and the former President have worked together on a variety of events in the past. The 32-year-old sharpshooter has linked up with Obama for his “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative. In August, the six-time All-Star shared a happy birthday message for Obama on Instagram.

The Instagram Live with Curry and Obama is slated to go for 30 minutes.

Golfweek Live Q&A: Hosting the Charles Schwab Challenge in the age of COVID-19

On Instagram Live, Tim Schmitt joined JuliaKate E. Culpepper to discuss precautions the PGA Tour is taking with its return amid COVID-19.

Celebrate the PGA Tour’s long-awaited return, but don’t forget to wash your hands frequently and stay six feet apart.

The Tour returns for the first time in nearly three months with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, beginning Thursday.

But with the good news of live golf’s return comes a few precautions in the age of coronavirus. Golfweek managing editor Tim Schmitt is on the ground in Fort Worth for this week’s event and spoke to our JuliaKate E. Culpepper about the precautions being taken on site for the limited personnel on Golfweek’s Instagram Live.

Upon arriving at Colonial, Schmitt said he had his temperature taken, was handed a mask and noted the hand sanitizing stations around the course.

Saying it was a bizarre atmosphere from pre-coronavirus Tour events is an understatement.

“I’ve covered all major team sports and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this. … You show up here at Colonial Country Club today and there’s like nobody here. It’s really a bizarre vibe,” Schmitt said. “There’s a handful of folks here and around the clubhouse. I can tell you here in the media center there’s maybe 30 people total. It’s just a completely different vibe from anything like I’ve ever been to.”

For more commentary on what players said Tuesday during availability, when Tiger Woods might make his next appearance and how the weather will play a role at Colonial, watch the latest edition of Golfweek Live Q&A.

Mike Tyson making a comeback at 53? Well, sort of

Mike Tyson, on a health kick of late, said he wants to take part in exhibitions to benefit charities.

Mike Tyson is on a health kick. And it could lead him back into the ring.

No, Iron Mike isn’t making a comeback at 53 years old. He is considering some exhibitions for charity, however.

“I’ve been hitting the mitts for the last week,” Tyson said on Instagram Live. “That’s been tough. My body is really jacked up and really sore from hitting the mitts. I’ve been working out, I’ve been trying to get in the ring.

“I think I’m going to box some exhibitions and get in shape. I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three- or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff.

“Some charity exhibitions, make some money, help some homeless and drug-affected motherf—–s like me.”

A video of Tyson shadow boxing with his dog makes it clear that he remains spry.

Tyson said he’s feeling good.

“I do two hours on cardio,” he continued. “I do the bike and the treadmill for an hour, then I do some light weights, 300, 250 reps. Then I start my day with the boxing thing. I go in there and hit the mitts, 30 minutes, 25 minutes, start getting in better condition.”

“… I’m starting to put those combinations together. I’m in pain. I feel like three guys kicked the s— out of me.’

LeBron James and son join Diddy’s dance-a-thon for healthcare workers

The James family and the Combs family got together virtually yesterday afternoon as part of a fundraiser for healthcare workers.

With yesterday being Easter Sunday and everybody being stuck at their respective homes for the day, rather than being able to go to church or mingle with friends and extended family, music legend and mogul Diddy hatched an idea to turn the day where everyone is at home into an opportunity to raise money for healthcare workers. It just so happened that when Diddy executed the plan on Sunday afternoon with his millions of followers on Instagram Live, LeBron James decided to join in, with both bringing in their family on the family occasion.

LeBron and his son Bronny joined Diddy and his children for the dance-a-thon.

You just never know who is going to pop on IG Live these days with something fun or something new. And if they are, there’s a pretty good chance that LeBron will join in, given that he’s stuck at home like the rest of us and is looking for ways to connect with the outside world.

Watch: Steph Curry tells Javale McGee he can drop 60 points on ‘everybody’

Stephen Curry is confident when it comes to scoring the basketball.

While the NBA season is on hold, Stephen Curry has been active with his time under quarantine. When the Golden State Warriors’ point guard isn’t busy working towards the fight against COVID-19, Curry has been chiming in on social media.

On Friday, Curry jumped in with his former teammate JaVale McGee on Instagram. During their live video, the Los Angeles Lakers’ center asked Curry about his lethal scoring talent.

JM: What team or player on that team that you know is guarding you, do you look at and be like — ‘oh yeah, I’m getting 60 tonight.’

SC: Oh … Everybody.

JM: What is going on? Steph Curry just took shots at every player.

SC: Quarantine done changed me. What’s next?

JM: I’m not going to lie — I was not expecting that answer.

SC: I gave it just for you. That was just for you.

Watch McGee go into a frenzy after Curry’s answer, via Chris Montano on Twitter:

After winning back-to-back Most Valuable Player awards and a scoring title, it’s not a surprise Curry is confident in his ability to fill it up. However, during his 10 seasons in the NBA, Curry has yet to drop 60 points on anyone in his career.

The Davidson product has recorded 50 or more points on six different occasions during his time in the association, with his high of 54 coming against the New York Knicks in 2013.

Only four players have registered 60 points as members of the Golden State Warriors, with one being Curry’s fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson.

Once the NBA returns to game action, Curry will have 17 games left on the 2019-20 calendar to back up his 60 point claim.

Steph Curry got Dr. Anthony Fauci to answer all of the questions you had about coronavirus

Steph Curry got all the answers we needed from Dr. Fauci.

The moment that we live in right now is pretty surreal. We’re in the midst of a global pandemic and we shouldn’t be leaving our homes.

At the same time, people have so many questions about the virus, how to fight back against it and how to weather everything else that’s going on overall.

Warriors superstar Steph Curry helped share some very important information earlier today via an Instagram Live with Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and an advisor to President Trump

The session was just under 30 minutes and had 50,000 people tuned in including former president Barack Obama.

Did you happen to miss it? Well, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered right here. Here’s a quick rundown of what you missed. (Curry’s bolded questions have been edited for length.)

What needs to happen to determine when mass large gatherings are okay again?

Fauci: “What you need is you need to see the trajectory of the curve start to come down. We’ve seen that in China, they went up and down, they’re starting to get back to normal life. They got to be careful they don’t reintroduce the virus, but they’re on the other end of the curve.”

What’s your assessment of the testing process?

Fauci: “That’s been a real issue early on. Several weeks ago we were not in a place where we needed to be or we wanted to be. We did not have as much accessibility to testing as we now have or we will have going forward. Right now, there are literally hundreds of thousands of tests that are out there now mostly because we got the private sector involved. The companies who know how to make it and make it well, make large amounts so we’re going in the right direction.”

Why is it so challenging to get a test?

Fauci: “Well, there should be nothing now that’s inhibiting it. But originally, the system, the way it’s set up, Steph, was not geared for this kind of massive capability of instantaneously, safely getting a test…Right now the system is changed, primarily, because it’s being handed over to the commercial firms that know how to do it.”

What do you do if you have flu-like symptoms?

Fauci: “If someone, right now, gets flu-like symptoms, a fever, aches and a bit of a cough, the first thing you do is stay at home. Don’t go to the emergency room because then you might be infecting others. Get on the phone with a physician, nurse or health care provider. Get instructions from them on what to do and, if available, you can get a test. But the critical issue is don’t flood the emergency rooms.”

Can you get the virus a second time if you recovered from it?

Fauci: “We haven’t done the specific testing to determine that, but if this acts like every virus similar to it that we know the chances are overwhelming that if you get infected, recover from infection, that you are not going to get infected with the same virus. Which means that you can safely go out into the community and feel immune.”

Will the virus go away in the summer?

Fauci: “As the weather gets warmer, viruses tend to do poorly in warm, moisture weather and do quite well in cold, dry weather….The only issue is, Steph,  that we don’t know. This is the first time we’ve ever dealt with this virus. So it’s not an unreasonable assumption that it’ll go down, but you don’t want to count on it.”

What is the timeline for developing a vaccine? I’ve heard it’s 12 to 18 months.

Fauci: “We have started on the development of a vaccine faster than ever in the history of any virus from the time it was discovered and the time we actually made it and put it into a trial…The first thing you’ve got to do is make sure it’s safe. When you find out it’s safe and that it induces the kind of response you want it to, then you do it in a lot of people. The first trial is, like, 45 people. Then you go into hundreds, if not thousands, of people. That’s what takes the extra 8 months…When you add up the three or four months for phase 1, then the extra eight months, you get about a year or a year and a half. If we really push, we hope that we will know by the time we get into next winter whether or not we have something that works. But vaccine is going to be totally relevant if it cycles into another season. Which, frankly Steph, I think it’s going to do…Vaccines are going to be important for the next time around. Not for what we’re dealing with now.”

We need to make it clear that people are not overreacting to this, right?

Fauci: “We need to make that point… This is serious business. We are not overreacting.”

Watch: Lamar Jackson encourages young fan in the classroom on Instagram Live

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was chatting with fans on Instagram Live before chiding a student for being on during class

After a fantastic 2019 season that has him the frontrunner for the NFL’s MVP award, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has already inspired a whole generation of football players to be like him on the field. But he’s also trying to inspire fans to be better in the classroom as well.

Jackson was on Instagram Live, chatting with users, including one kid who was in the middle of his algebra class. It didn’t take long for Jackson to inquire about his grades and even asked the student to put his teacher on the phone so he could ask her himself.

Take a look at the interaction:

It’s awesome Jackson is randomly chatting with his fans on social media in the first place. But for Jackson to also push them to be better in school and stop playing around in class is something that has to bring a smile to your face.

Jackson has truly been an inspiring player to watch since being selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. But seeing his leadership grow both on and off the field has been an even bigger treat.
