Bears QB Justin Fields reportedly didn’t dislocate his shoulder after all

Justin Fields’ injury status seems to change by the hour but new reports indicate he may have avoided a dislocated shoulder.

The diagnosis of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ non-throwing shoulder is under further review. The second-year quarterback injured his non-throwing shoulder during Sunday’s 27-24 loss against the Atlanta Falcons and his status seems to change by the hour.

On Monday afternoon, head coach Matt Eberflus first stated he was day-to-day, though he wouldn’t rule anything out as they were going to wait until Wednesday’s injury report to provide clarification. In the evening, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Fields had suffered a dislocated shoulder, but a few hours later, that report was refuted by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Florio is reporting the injury is not a shoulder dislocation, though there is still an injury that has yet to be publicly diagnosed. Schefter followed the report up on ESPN’s Monday Night Football halftime show by confirming it was not a dislocation.

It’s clear Fields is hurting after the tough loss, but to what extent is still unknown. Fields completed 14-of-21 passes for 153 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown, all while taking a beating from the Falcons defense that resulted in his injury.

A dislocated shoulder would have likely sidelined Fields for multiple weeks and perhaps his injury isn’t as severe. Eberflus wouldn’t offer any hints and is instead waiting until Wednesday to shed some light on the situation. For now, Fields’ shoulder injury is under further review but he may have avoided missing extended time if it isn’t dislocated after all.

Bears QB Justin Fields suffered a dislocated left shoulder

According to Ian Rapoport, Justin Fields suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Bears’ loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields’ shoulder injury has been revealed. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the signal caller suffered a dislocated shoulder during Sunday’s 27-24 loss against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fields played the entire game on Sunday, but left the locker room on a cart to get his shoulder examined when the game ended. On Monday, head coach Matt Eberflus indicated Fields was day-to-day, though he wouldn’t speculate on the quarterback’s availability for their Week 12 matchup against the New York Jets.

Other quarterbacks who have suffered a dislocated shoulder on their non-throwing arm have missed time in recent years, notably Baker Mayfield with the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and Mitchell Trubisky with the Bears in 2019. Both players missed at least one week while recovering from their injuries.

Fields’ status will be updated later in the week when injury reports are released.

Ian Rapoport calls the Saints a playoff team after seeing ‘excellent’ Michael Thomas practice

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport calls the Saints a playoff team after seeing ‘excellent’ Michael Thomas practice:

New Orleans Saints training camp is in full swing, and the national analysts are beginning to take notice. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport visited for their Friday practice session while making his tour of camps around the league, and he was just as impressed with Michael Thomas as the rest of us.

“I saw Michael Thomas run a bunch of routes today. He looked, I thought, excellent. He looked awesome,” Rapoport emphasized during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, “Secondary’s really, really deep. If Jameis (Winston) is just fine, I think the Saints are gonna be looking at a playoff team.”

Rapoport also made note of the rapid progress that Jarvis Landry and Chris Olave have made since landing in New Orleans, giving Winston a three-deep set of weapons that can compete with anyone in the NFL. Obviously there’s more work to do be done, and he conceded that it’s not wise to draw too much away from a single August afternoon, but clearly the Saints made a strong impression on him.

So did Thomas, who the team has taken care to ramp up as camp has continued. Thomas made his debut in 1-on-1 passing drills and immediately swept Paulson Adebo in two matchups, snaring a reception in both of his routes against the most impressive corner in town. Now he’s progressed to work in 7-on-7’s, and it’s only a matter of time before the Saints give him the green light to participate in full-squad sessions. If he’s healthy and playing as well as Rapoport and everyone else believes, New Orleans should be on the fast track to the postseason.

Why Seahawks RB Chris Carson won’t make formal retirement statement

Seahawks running back Chris Carson is expected to retire from the NFL due to a neck injury, but here’s why he won’t issue a formal statement.

Just minutes ago, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson would be retiring from the NFL due to a neck injury he sustained last season. However, Rapoport also revealed why Carson won’t be making an official statement just yet.

Chris Carson won’t make a retirement statement, just in case his neck dramatically improves,” Rapoport explained. “But this is where it stands . . .  And the Seahawks, as they did with Cliff Avril, Kam Chancellor and others, make sure he gets his money. Thus, the official designation.”

Carson originally joined the Seahawks when he was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Oklahoma State and spent his entire career in Seattle. Carson appeared in just four games last year before his season-ending neck injury.

Joe Burrow reportedly undergoes surgery to remove appendix, will miss some practice time

It’s unclear exactly how long Burrow will be out.

Expectations are high for [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] heading into Year 3 after his breakout sophomore campaign, but it seems the 2021 NFL Comeback Player of the Year will be away from the team for some time this offseason.

According to NFL Network league insider Ian Rapoport, Burrow will undergo surgery to remove his appendix and will miss some practice time, though it’s implied he’ll be ready for the Bengals’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 11.

It’s currently unclear when exactly Burrow will have the surgery or how long he’s expected to miss. However, it could mean that he will not see the field in the preseason — which begins on Aug. 12 — for Cincinnati.

Burrow missed a large portion of his rookie season in 2020 after suffering a torn ACL, but despite concerns about his health, he took a massive leap forward in 2021. He finished with 4,611 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and his 108.3 quarterback rating was second in the league behind only Aaron Rodgers.

He’s considered one of the best young quarterbacks in football and, thanks to a young core that also includes former Tigers receiver [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag], the Bengals are considered one of the AFC’s top teams in 2022. They’ll hope Burrow getting this procedure out of the way ensures his health for the long haul.

Ian Rapoport reacts to getting ‘dunked on’ by Ravens RB JK Dobbins

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reacted to getting “dunked on” by Ravens running back JK Dobbins

The Baltimore Ravens had no shortage of injuries in 2021, losing many of their key contributors to different ailments over the course of the season. Even before the year began, the team lost running backs JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards as well as cornerback Marcus Peters to torn ACL injuries.

On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Dobbins was uncertain to be ready for Week 1 of 2022 and might have to spend time on the PUP list due to the extent of his injury. Dobbins responded on Twitter to Rapoport, putting out his own timeframe about his injury. Rapoport then made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, where McAfee broke the news to Rapoport about Dobbins’ response, getting a live reaction from the reporter.

Rapoport stuck by his source, but also made it clear that he hopes that Dobbins is ready for Week 1, as he said that would be the best outcome for all parties. The running back suffered his injury in late-August during a preseason game, so it’s almost been a year since the incident happened.

Ravens RB JK Dobbins responds to Ian Rapoport, provides update on recovery

Ravens running back JK Dobbins responded to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and provided an update on his recovery

The Baltimore Ravens are looking to bounce back in a big way during the 2022 season after they finished 8-9 in 2021, resulting in the team missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017. A big reason as to why the team struggled, especially during the back half of the year, was due to the massive amounts of injuries that they suffered at many different positions.

One of the areas where Baltimore was hit the hardest was at running back, where J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill all suffered season-ending injuries before the season began. On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Dobbins is unlikely to be ready for Week 1 as he recovers from his torn ACL. However, Dobbins responded to Rapoport and then put out a series of other tweets, even providing an update on his recovery.

Ian Rapoport provides update on Ravens RB JK Dobbins

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided an update on Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins

The Baltimore Ravens suffered numerous injuries over the course of the 2021 season. Even before the start of the year, the team lost multiple key contributors, including running backs JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Marcus Peters to torn ACLs.

On Monday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport provided an update on the recovery of Dobbins and where he stands in regards to his potential status for Week 1 of the 2022 season. He relayed information from a source that said that the third-year running back is “no sure thing” for Week 1. Rapoport made it clear that there haven’t been any setbacks, but that his injury was a serious one.

Many expected Dobbins to be one of the breakout stars of the 2021 NFL season after coming off of a rookie year in which he led all running backs with 6.0 yards per carry while breaking Baltimore’s rookie touchdown record. He didn’t get the chance to show what he was capable of to follow up his sensational first season, but should have that chance at some point in 2022, regardless of if he starts the year on the PUP list or not.

Seahawks ‘have never really been that interested’ in Baker Mayfield

Rapoport appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and had this to say.

The speculation regarding Baker Mayfield’s next NFL destination is still going strong, and the Seattle Seahawks have been floated as a popular choice ever since the organization traded their longtime franchise quarterback Russell Wilson.

However, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reaffirmed Seattle’s rumored lack of interest in the disgruntled Browns signal-caller and stated that they are moving forward with the competition between Drew Lock and Geno Smith.

Rapoport appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and had this to say…

In all likelihood, the Seahawks will play out the season with Lock and Smith and draft a quarterback in 2023 if things do not go well. They are certainly not projected to be a contender in the NFC West this year, let alone a Super Bowl despite head coach Pete Carroll’s belief in Lock and Smith.

Seahawks fans will likely be in for a long season in 2022.

Ravens S Kyle Hamilton signs rookie contract

Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton signed his rookie contract

The Baltimore Ravens have been busy over the past few days getting their rookies from the 2022 NFL draft under contract. With an 11-player class they’ve had to do quite a lot in that regard, but they’re beginning to see more and more of their rookies to put pen to paper.

On Tuesday, the team’s first pick in the 2022 draft in Kyle Hamilton agreed to terms on his rookie contract. With this deal being agreed upon, it makes it so that Baltimore has both of their first round picks signed and ready to go well before the start of training camp.

Hamilton was the 14th overall selection in the 2022 draft out of Notre Dame, and was widely considered a steal. In three collegiate seasons he accumulated 138 total tackles and eight interceptions, showcasing his ability to be great in pass coverage as well as a force agains the run. He will now get to learn from the many experiences of his teammates in the Baltimore secondary, something that will do wonders for his career early on.
