Watch: Stealthy bobcat scores actual birdie on golf course

A recent image showing a bobcat on a Florida golf course is reminiscent of a wild scene involving a bobcat shown hunting ducks at an Arizona course.

A “good size” bobcat was photographed recently at a Florida golf course, leading WINK News meteorologist Matt Devitt to remark via X: “Golfing in Florida is always full of surprises.”

The image atop this post, credited to Bo Jackson, is a reminder that bobcats, like coyotes, sometimes hunt on golf courses.

The bobcat was prowling the range at The Sanctuary Golf Club and the image is reminiscent of a wild scene captured on video last January at Silver Leaf Country Club in Arizona.

The accompanying footage, captured by the River Pig Saloon, shows a bobcat hunting ducks around one of the greens, using steep bunkers as cover before launching a successful ambush attack.

“Oh, he got one!” someone in the group exclaims as the bobcat leaps from the bunker, scattering the flock, as other golfers react giddily.

Viewers will have to click to a second video segment on the Instagram post if they wish to see the bobcat securing and running off with its feathery prize.

Who’s faster? Rare footage shows wolf chasing coyote on snow

An ice fisherman in Ontario, Canada, claimed to have saved a coyote from ambush by two wolves by startling the larger predators with his snowmobile.

An ice fisherman in Ontario, Canada, claims to have saved a coyote from  attacking wolves by startling the larger predators with his snowmobile.

Ryan Thorburn told Michigan Live that he had just quit fishing when he spotted the coyote running from two wolves. His footage (posted below) shows one wolf in a high-speed pursuit on the snow, with the coyote galloping for its life.

“They ran right past me, the one right in front of me you see in the video, then the second wolf behind me,” Thorburn said. “The one behind me stopped and stared at me. It did frighten me because I don’t trust wolves. This was definitely a surreal experience.”

Thorburn, an ER nurse, said the wolves “did get the pounce on the coyote” before he used his snowmobile to distract the wolves, allowing the injured coyote to escape.

“I spooked the wolves by slowly creeping around the corner. The wolves caught glimpse of me and ran away, and the coyote got up and ran the opposite way,” Thorburn told For The Win Outdoors.

According to multiple reports, wolves can run in bursts up to 38 mph, while coyotes have been clocked at 43 mph.

Texas still in the hunt for five-star running back Camar Wheaton

UT could still be in the race for five-star running back Camar Wheaton, despite 247Sports’ crystal ball saying he is 100% towards Oklahoma.

Texas could still be in the race for five-star running back Camar Wheaton, despite 247Sports’ crystal ball saying he is 100% towards Oklahoma. The Longhorns have not been heavily pursuing running backs in the 2021 class but cannot miss out on a great prospect.

247Sports posted an article that predicted where the top recruits left in the 2021 class would sign. Talking about Wheaton, the recruiting website says Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas all “remain is good position” for the running back. SMU could pose a threat but are seen as an outsider at the moment.

After signing Bijan Robinson in the last recruiting class, Texas was not expected to go after highly rated ball carriers. However, if the Longhorns can sign Wheaton, their depth at running back would become one of the best in the Big 12.

With SEC programs such as Alabama and LSU pursuing him as well, Wheaton is a hot commodity in this year’s recruiting class. A five-star on the 247Sports composite, the running back from Garland would be another in-state recruit for Tom Herman.

Dominating the state of Texas since becoming head coach, Herman would sign another top 10 in-state prospect. Ja’Tavion Sanders and Billy Bowman, No. 4 and No. 5 ranked in-state respectively, have already pledged toward the Longhorns.

It could be a dream for Longhorn fans to see a backfield of Robinson and Wheaton. Both a threat to go the distance every play, Texas’ running game would be in good shape for the next three to four years.

There are currently 47 running backs set to hit the free agency market. That’s a lot of ball-carriers who will be looking for a home this offseason. Some of the 47 may not even get a contract. LeSean McCoy looked cooked for the Chiefs and was a healthy scratch. Adrian Peterson had a good year for someone his age, but that’s the key, someone his age. He has a ton of miles on his legs. Lamar Miller just missed the list but that’s because it feels like he’s never lived up to expectations and is injured a lot. So let’s get to the nine backs who made the list. The first running back is obvious.

Derrick Henry

Anyone who watched Henry run during the playoffs knows that he is best back hitting the market. He might not even hit the market. Even if the Titans franchise tag Ryan Tannehill, they can transition tag Derrick Henry thanks to a clause in the final year of the CBA. Henry had 1540 yards and 16 touchdowns in the regular season. He was the focal point of the Titans offense and the key to their effective play-action passing game. The only concern would be that the Titans ran him into the ground a la Dallas and DeMarco Murray.
